Healthy & hearty to-go meals delivered. Yum! My favorite meal on their menu is the chicken spinach Cous cous salad with lemon vinaigrette dressing and pine nuts. It's one of my fav lunch meals. Since the pandemic their locations in the FIDI ( including this one) has shut temporarily but they are still delivering food locally after you place an order online. Yum! Nice grab-and-go food place. It was my first time eating at Proper Food, although I've seen a lot of their chain/branches pop up in the San Francisco downtown area lately. The inside is really well renovated, with a modern look, and clean. The staff are all very nice. The area is small, which is ok, because they don't look like they have a kitchen anyways. It's basically a fridge with packaged meals--you just take a container, pay, and leave. Its a similar concept to Byte-foods, except they have an entire store instead of just a vending machine. The food itself tastes great! I got the chicken salad with quinoa, which tasted really really good. Especially the quinoa, which was cooked well and crunchy but not too soft. The cold temperature also made the quinoa and salad taste super fresh. The staff who work there are all very nice. I tried to ask them for a bathroom--they didn't have on in the store, which makes sense. But the staff was helpful enough to give me directions to a nearby restroom, before I even bought anything yet. Overall, a nice place to grab a quick bite for lunch! read more

Man, their breakfast dish was super delicious! I got the scrambled eggs with the hash brown and millionaires bacon and was extremely satisfied. It was my first time having millionaires bacon and I can't wait to get more. I think I paid a total of $10 for my plate, which I find pretty reasonable. My only feedback is that they could have seasoned their eggs better with more salt, but I'm assuming all of this was made in some big commercial kitchen and delivered to each location. This Proper Food up the street from my work just opened. There's one right on California Street, but I guess Proper Food is on a mission to become the local Starbucks of FiDi (one on every corner). Before you start knockin' pre-made food, think again. Proper Food has items that taste just as delicious...no no, even more delicious than your standard FiDi fare that you'd find at Specialtys (except for the cookies), Working Girl's, or any other sandwich joint in the area. But they are more than just sandwiches--they also serve up salads, wraps, pizzas, burritos, lasagna, and noodles galore, and they'll even warm it up for ya! I walked in during breakfast and picked myself up a yogurt parfait and a Proper Energy Bar. I am very thankful for that Proper Energy Bar, as it has kept things pumping through my intestinal tract today (about to make my second extended trip to the bathroom). The parfait was almost $6, but with the granola, it sure made for a filling breakfast. I particularly liked this location because the woman helping me was so cheery! I thought, dang, it's not even 8am and you got this much energy?! Did you have a Proper Energy Bar? I asked her about the PB&J, and she totally sold me on it. I was already set on getting the parfait and energy bar, but for sure I will be back to try Proper Food's take on a classic. Legit. Stopped in today on a whim since I'm taking a training class in the same office building. I wanted a fresh tasty salad but didn't feel like waiting in line at Mixt Greens for a half an hour. Proper has a proper selection of gourmet salads and a few other bites. Would be nice to see a broader selection of food choices but I'd still rather have an excellent salad even if that's all they have rather than mediocre something else that you usually get when places have a bunch of different things sitting in the cold case (sandwiches, etc.). I picked up a grilled octopus salad. It was excellent. They move people through the line quickly with a quick payment system. Friendly staff. I'd return. read more

This salad is essentially cold rice, beans and carne asada. Imagine home cooked food put into the fridge and you don't have time to reheat the leftovers. Seasoning is great but would like to have this as a "heated" option, so I can feel like I am having a proper meal. The lettuce is unnecessary filler. read more

If I still worked downtown, I'd probably get food from Proper Food at least twice a week. "A" had a couple of auditions downtown this morning so I tagged along because he said we'd stop by Proper Food afterward. The food is always freshly made that day and I believe they donate all the unsold food at the end of the day. My absolute favorite is the Citrus Braised Octopus and Farro Salad. I come here all the time to get the breakfast sandwich (although the gf bun changed and not as great) and if they aren't sold out - the chicken salad. With amazon go a couple blocks further, I suggest going that extra stretch. I got the harvest salad with chicken, do not get this. The chicken tastes like your eating cardboard. I have stopped in 2 days in a row around 3:30 and THEY ARE OUT OF COFFEE, the news happily reported by smiling counter personnel. I find this unbelievable in a place that is in the hyper-caffeinated "Financial District." They are also out of most food and soup (!) at this time, information also conveyed by smiling "sorry about that" "service" people. Why don't they close early like the many of the joints in the bustling (not) "Financial District"? The food is geared towards the kale-cuffed-jeans-manbun crowd. The second ugly thing about this place is the price of eating if anything were the least bit tempting. A PB&J sandwich for $7? Welcome to San Francisco, sucka. Read reviews on the fabulous octopus & farro salad. Worst salad ever! The octopus was beyond chewy, I kid you know I chewed on it for like 5 minutes trying to soften the damn thing like a piece of old chewing gum. The farro was slightly slimey. It was just a complete waste of money for me. However, the birds next breakfast item was good especially when the egg isn't overcooked and is still a little runny.
