We ordered the crab chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl. The bread was stale, dry, and hard, making it difficult to enjoy. On top of that, the chowder itself wasn't even hot, it was barely warm. For a chowder restaurant, this was really surprising and disappointing. We let our waitress know about our concerns, and her response was simply that she would let the chef know. Happy hour all day! $6 house margs and $5 beers drew us in to this lil tourist trap at Fisherman's Wharf. Casual eatery in the middle of San Francisco's most popular destinations, so location and views are great. There is a public parking lot and public restroom adjacent. Indoor seating and patio available. Watch out for birds! The house margaritas are worth stopping in for. Service is welcoming and attentive (and should be good because they tack on a $3-4 employee surcharge, that is not the tip). Most of the menu is the typical fried seafood (shrimp, calamari, fish), clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl, and crab that's on every menu at San Francisco's seafood restaurants. Prices aren't bad, but the food was just mid, so I wouldn't mind paying more somewhere else for better tasting food and ambiance. But you know what was the best? The mf tarter sauce!!!!! That sh*t was delish! And the grilled sourdough bread for the crab salad sandwich. So crisp and buttery. Crab salad itself was ok. The other items seemed similar but this place had burgers too, as well as other options. The lady who took my order was so nice. Visiting San Francisco and came across this place before venturing out to explore Fisherman's Wharf. The restaurant is located at Pier 43 and the food was horrible to say the least based on the amount of money spent. Overall I seen this place a few times I went to the wharf and I can't believe I chose this over Boudin....the service is average, workers seem like they don't want to be there. The sprite was flat, thankfully they addressed it. The good, the clam chowder is not too bad. The clams are actually huge which I can respect. My business partner and I had a few hours to burn and decided to drop by the wharf before leaving. I've walled by here many times but never stopped before. Today we had limited time so decided to make it a quick lunch. It was 11am on a Tuesday so it wasn't busy at all. The bartender is also the server and she was super helpful and friendly. The real issue is with management. There simply weren't enough employees working to handle the amount of people coming in. We were seated and completely forgotten. No one checked on us, no one asked how our food was, and believe it or not, we were never even brought water. That is basic, minimum service. The food? Extremely mid. Nothing had flavor, nothing stood out, and it wasn't worth the price or the wait. For a place in such a high-traffic, competitive area, the food should be at least memorable. It wasn't even close. My disappointment was that I didn't even get offered water. This is a great spot so they really should take advantage of it. Ironically the mustard was more flavorful than my sandwich.
