I checked the menu boards at all the places right on the wharf and these prices were pretty much the exact same for a bread bowl with clam chowder. The other items seemed similar but this place had burgers too, as well as other options. The lady who took my order was so nice. I wasn't sure on the crab or clam chowder so I asked what she thought was better and she let me sample both. I went with the crab. It was a little sweet but also had a little kick to it. The clam chowder was really good too. My husband got the fish and chips and he liked them. I didn't see any inside dining options but outside in this area is best anyways.

Overall I seen this place a few times I went to the wharf and I can't believe I chose this over Boudin....the service is average, workers seem like they don't want to be there. The sprite was flat, thankfully they addressed it. The good, the clam chowder is not too bad. The clams are actually huge which I can respect. The downfall was the bread bowl was heated or toasted, such a bummer. Plain cold bread bowl with hot chowder. I will give the clam chowder bowl a 3/5. The crab chowder was terrible. It was super sweet. I had to put tobasco to make it flavorful. Another cold bread bowl. I give this 1.3/5 The saving grace is the the fish and chips. Fish was tender and juicy a the garlic fries were good. However the fish had so much oil it was almost biting into oil tenders. 3.7/5 Overall I won't come back and I will just stick to Boudjn.

This is a solid place in the fisherman's warf. We stopped here for a snack and some drinks between some attractions and really enjoyed it. There were several beers on tap and a full bar. The only (very small) complaint I have is that the bartender was also the server for the bar area, and he seemed a little overworked. He was super attentive, but it would have been better if he had some more help. He seemed to be having an issue with one of the mixers, and it was cool to see the attention he was paying to the quality of the drinks. We had a few beers and some of the garlic fries which were great. I do want to include one anecdote, the second bartender (the main guy got some help) was shaking a mix and splashed some of what he was making in our direction. Nothing got close to us but he was super apologetic and even offered us free beer, but we couldn't do that to the guy!

False advertising, rude service, not clean. Do not go here. They say on the top of the roof happy hour specials and then they don't honor them. They argue with you and they don't really care that they're ripping you off.

My sisters and I were here recently last week on Saturday during an outing in SF. We came across here when we were trying to look for a lunch spot. Service was great, food was decent. We shared fish and chips and crab chowder. The fish and chips were pretty solid, good enough for me and my sisters to share. The crab chowder was a different story; as much as it looked good, the taste had a hint of San Francisco tapwater. At least we finished it though. The ambiance was pretty solid too. Not packed like other places around us. Overall, part of me might come back again.

I really liked this spot! It is a nice outside restaurant with very quick service! We had a group of 6 and all of our food was ready within 10 minutes. I got the clam chowder which was very good! The bread was soft and crisp. It did not have bacon in it, which is perfect for me because I don't eat pork and it is hard to find that a lot. Another person in my group got a smash burger that she really enjoyed. She said it was juicy and a good size. The prices are a bit high, but that is expected given the touristy location. I would come back again and try other menu items if I were in the area.

So glad that The Chowder Hut is still open. Seeing a lot of restaurants closed on The Wharf nowadays. We made it simple this time around...Lobster Chowder and Lobster Sandwich Both were tasty and fed three of us. The sourdough bowl was so fresh and soft. I just started eating that with butter and I was satisfied. But that was only the beginning...Next came the lobster fest! The chowder had a nice, peppery kick to it. My only gripe is to leave out the corn. The lobster sandwich was also excellent and had a lot of lobster. This place is the bomb diggity!! Peel and eat garlic shrimp with sourdough bread soaking in the sauce!! Dungarees crab sandwich with fries! Even the fries are delicious! The most friendly people working here! A great find for my birthday trip to San Francisco!!

My business partner and I had a few hours to burn and decided to drop by the wharf before leaving. I've walled by here many times but never stopped before. Today we had limited time so decided to make it a quick lunch. It was 11am on a Tuesday so it wasn't busy at all. The bartender is also the server and she was super helpful and friendly. We got our drinks (thankfully they have Coke products) quickly and ordered a few minutes later. The tables were pretty comfortable and surprisingly the chairs as well. It's pretty simple inside and the menu is pretty simple. I ordered the clam chowder and spicy fish sandwich. It comes with fries but I didn't want them. My partner ordered a chicken sandwich. The call chowder was pretty good. I liked that it was piping hot. Good flavor and I would order it again. The bread is real thick for the sandwich. I liked the bread and the fish was a thick cut. The breading was good but unfortunately no seasoning on the fish. A little salt and pepper even would go a long way. It wasn't bad but just would have been nice to be seasoned. I'd come back here though. It's a good deal for a quick bite to eat.

Since it was my first time in SF, my friends really wanted to take me to get a famous clam chowder bread bowl. Many locals had suggested the Chowder Hut and I'm glad they did! The place is a cute little spot by the Pier and is nearby Boudin. My friends and I ordered the clam chowder bread bowl which was $13.99 which wasn't too bad! Service was just ok in my opinion. The place wasn't too crowded but it was a little diffciult to get the attention of the staff at times. I had to walk up to them a few times and ask for napkins, to go boxes, etc. The clam chowder was good but my only complaint was that it was not hot at all. It was just warm which I did not like. Had it been hotter, it would have been 1000% better in my opinion. Place wise, this seemed like a chill place for people to grab a drink and food. However, the restrooms were disgusting. It's a public restroom located outside the restuarant and it was NOT clean.

My friends and I were busing fisherman's wharf and pier 39 area and got hungry along the way. I ordered the clam chowder which had the creamy texture I love. However the flavor did fall a hit short for me but the bread bowl from boudin made up for it. My friend ordered the calamari which came with fries and both were pretty crispy. The service was fairly quick and there's indoor and outdoor seating. I wouldn't go out of my way here but not bad for being around the area.

Fisherman's Wharf is known as a tourist area, but there is some good here. We went to Chowder Hut and had a great meal at a decent price. The inside is nice if nothing fancy. It is nice to eat inside when wind is heavy. Service is fast and efficient--they are used to dealing with crowds. We were here for World Cup and glad they had a couple of big TVs with games playing. We started with some Blue Moon drafts--only $5 and just perfect. We both ordered the clam chowder bowls and an order of garlic fries. The chowder was excellent and you cannot beat a good sourdough bowl. I added bacon which i HIGHLY recommend. The fries were a nice surprise, clearly fresh and with great flavor. We were both pleased. Definitely worth a visit. read more

My friends and I came here for lunch because it's a chowder spot, so we were expecting a great bowl of chowder. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. We ordered the crab chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl. The bread was stale, dry, and hard, making it difficult to enjoy. On top of that, the chowder itself wasn't even hot, it was barely warm. For a chowder restaurant, this was really surprising and disappointing. We let our waitress know about our concerns, and her response was simply that she would let the chef know. There wasn't much acknowledgment beyond that, which made the experience even more underwhelming. Overall, we left disappointed and wouldn't recommend this place based on our experience. read more

The clam chowder is really yummy! But the service was great too. We also ordered a crab chowder, and honestly didn't really like it. For us too much pepper. Just wasn't what we were into. And the server came by and noticed. And we expected nothing of it, we were still willing to pay for it. However, he came out with another cup of clam chowder because he noticed we really enjoyed that one and he wanted to make up for it. Which, I felt was very observant and thoughtful. Great service! I was by myself & it took half a dozen pass bys to get someone to give me a menu. when the waitress finally came by, she indifferently took my order & then I never saw her again until I was almost done with my meal. I had to flag someone else down to get some malt vinegar. Someone else had already cleared my table when she popped by & mumbled something. I asked for the check. someone else, a cook, or possibly a manager took my payment. The fish was bland, the fries were cold. the best thing about the meal was the $5 beer. There were 2 servers. I think, & a bar tender. They were busy, but not crazy enough to forgo customer service. Their main objective was to get food on the table. Niceties or customer service never came into play. Won't be going back there again. I've had better fish & chips in Santa Rosa. read more

they have a sign out front that says $5 draft beer and $6 margaritas all day. apparently you're supposed to already know that means only monday-friday and no holidays. you would think they would have that in their sign. manager was extremely rude. i even said i wasn't trying to cause issues and was very kind when i asked her about it. ended up paying $33 for mediocre beer. bad service all around. read more

Maryori was an amazing server! Bowl of their Original Clam Chowder and lemonade was the best $20 I've spent in this city! Very touristy area yet many customers appeared to be local. I highly recommend this place - very chill, close to the water and good people working here. read more

Everything was good overall! The only thing was my garlic grilled shrimp , the garlic tasted a bit burnt, which made it slightly bitter. I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be prepared. I love my shrimp just wish the seasoning hadn't been burned read more

Solo meal - relatively cheap and good for a quick meal. Got a clam chowder bowl with no bread bowl and the ultimate margarita. Not the best chowder ever but hits the spot with big chunks of clam. Note! Clam chowder costs the same with and without the bread bowl so in terms of value - might as well get the bread bowl. Margarita was surprisingly good for $13 in a touristy location. They middle orange, lime and lemon so there are definitely seeds in your drink. Good for people watching and quick service. Would come again if I was in the area. read more

Alright at best. Chowder Hut is one of those restaurants that does what it has to; puts food in your stomach. The food is not great but at least we weren't hungry when we left. I just got fish and chips, again it was ok. A downfall of this place was the service. The staff were very rude and did not help our table whatsoever. I had to flag someone down to get drinks, nobody helped or asked if we needed anything, and I had to flag someone down to pay. Not worth the price or experience. Will not return. read more

This restaurant is right in the middle of the Wharf, directly next to the parking lot. The restaurant offers validation for parking, great spot to park if you want to walk down to Pier 39 and the wharf. Food was delicious and for a great price. Definitely on the cheaper end compared to the other restaurants in the area. The California Burger was massive and so filling, as well as the crab sandwich. Seating was perfect, we had a view of the ocean, the wharf, and TVs to watch the game. There's indoor and outdoor seating available which is great for when it's too windy outside. Service was fantastic. Our food came out quickly and our server was kind! Definitely recommend if you're at the wharf. read more

Line moved quickly and food was served just a few minutes after ordering! We sat outside but had heaters to keep us warm. Lots of construction happening next door but was paused for Super Bowl weekend. We got the clam chowder bowl and fish and chips. Soup and fish were average; great fries! read more

I had the spicy fish sandwich , it was absolutely delicious. The jalapeños in the sandwich were on the extra spicy side but the coleslaw in the sandwich cut through it . Love that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. I chose a seat in the corner on the inside and when the sun peaked out from behind the clouds it was perfect. Service was great , older gentleman made his 3 rounds , one for ordering, bringing food out and asking if we needed anything else . I'm only taking points away because the menu didn't have coleslaw as a side . I feel that's a must for seafood restaurants. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but my experience here was so disappointing I felt I had to say something. I came in expecting a decent meal and some basic service, especially given that this place is located at Fisherman's Wharf--a busy, iconic tourist destination. What I got instead was a frustrating, chaotic, and completely forgettable experience. To be clear: the staff tried their best. They were clearly overwhelmed and doing all they could. The real issue is with management. There simply weren't enough employees working to handle the amount of people coming in. We were seated and completely forgotten. No one checked on us, no one asked how our food was, and believe it or not, we were never even brought water. That is basic, minimum service. The food? Extremely mid. Nothing had flavor, nothing stood out, and it wasn't worth the price or the wait. For a place in such a high-traffic, competitive area, the food should be at least memorable. It wasn't even close. My disappointment was that I didn't even get offered water. This is a great spot so they really should take advantage of it. Ironically the mustard was more flavorful than my sandwich. So much room for improvement. read more

Took forever. Cook had our four meals under heat lamps in window for 15 mins before he realized it was for us. I had the clam chowder bread bowl. About three hours later without eating anything else I experienced projectile vomit caused by food poisoning. This happened at 3pm yesterday, finally feeling normal again. If you want to ruin your vacation, get the clam chowder bread bowl. read more

An affordable place to eat near Pier 39, with the added bonus of a parking discount when you dine here. The garlic fries were a standout--so flavorful! The clam chowder was decent, but I felt the bread bowl could use more soup. The calamari and crab sandwich were also just okay. Overall, it's a reasonably priced spot with good options for a quick bite. One of the servers was really nice! Good for big groups, nice seating inside. read more

We visited on a Thursday evening and were lucky enough to find street parking shortly after 6 p.m. We were seated immediately, but a line started forming not long after. So definitely come early!

This restaurant is right outside Pier 39. You can't miss it. It's a big round building. I had the Clam Chowder in a sourdough bowl, which you must have at least once if you go to The City. The customer service was fast and efficient and friendly. You go up to the counter to order your food and then go and sit down and they bring it to you. My friend had the crab chowder. He liked his very much and I liked my clam chowder. We sat outside. It was a bit chilly, not unusual for SF, but there were big heaters everywhere. It was really nice. I would definitely go again someday, however there are so many good restaurants there; it may be a while before I make it around to there again because I like to try a lot of new restaurants. You can also walk over to the Penny Arcade museum. It's right next to it. read more

Came here on 4th of July place was busy, lots going on. We got a table by inside by the tv. Archer was very attentive and gave us some good local info on the city and where we should go on our vacation. He recommended some of his House favorites, which we got and enjoyed. Great experience, made us felt like we had a friend in a town when we're just visiting. Danny was also great and the 2 of them took care of the majority of the guests around us! Chowder Hut Grill is conveniently placed at Fisherman's Wharf, so it's a good way to get some tasty clam chowder in a bread bowl during a busy day of sightseeing. We had an early lunch there, so there wasn't a crowd, service was fast, and it was easy to grab a table in the sun (It's all outside seating, which is a plus on sunny days). Wednesday June 15th, 2016 around 645pm. Just asked a staff member if we could sit and eat, to which he said yes and brought us menus. After waiting 10 minutes to order we were asked to leave. They said they were not serving food anymore and kicked us out. Loved the experience of this place , food was lovely, even though it's famous for chowder I had a burger and it was fantastic Glad I seen it on out first day , will definitely be back Top class food. read more

The worst service ever. They don't allow you to sit on their table simply because you brought some food from other place, even if you have bought food over 50 dollars at this place. read more

White big man that works there with a spiked Mohawk hairstyle is totally rude. Will not be coming back because of him. Horrible customer service!!!! read more
