Discovered this place during a stroll through little Italy, and it's become a go-to with friends for a quick bite. Prices are quite good, considering the typical San Francisco pricing. The vibe is amazing, it's this old-timey hole-in-the wall kind of spot. The staff is quick and friendly, Paula is one of the best, has taken great care of me across multiple visits. And of course the food is incredible. They source really good, high quality ingredients, which make for a burger unlike what you can find anywhere else in the city. Tiny restaurant on Grant Ave in Little Italy. My usual place was super crowded and I was short on time so I tried this place. It was...meh. I ordered the eggs florentine and the hollandaise sauce was horrible. The spinach also had a weird taste/texture. At least the eggs were poached correctly, even tho they were somewhat flat. Not sure how they managed to do that. The crispy home fries were actually perfect, only reason I gave it three stars instead of two. Parking in this area is tough unless you are there early. Found this little gem in North Beach San Francisco on a Saturday morning stroll through Little Italy. It's a small place that sits about 25 to 30 people. Wasn't too busy when we got there and got a table right away. Everything on the menu looks good, I wanted to order everything. 2 Eggs with Half Hamburger Patty with Home Fried Potatoes was so good the Patty was juicy and well seasoned. The home fried potatoes were one of the best I ever had. I think its most likely made with beef tallow. French Toast was perfectly made. Came here during north beach's first Friday and was looking for a place that we can sit down for some sustenance. Cute diner vibes but the horrible experience with the service. There's only one waitress and I understand it's a Friday night and it's busy. We got our table first and set there awkwardly for a good 20 minutes before we got to order (have to physically get up to find the waitress to ask to order). Saw other groups set down after us get served first, was quite frustrated. We got the alpine burger with fries to share and each got a cup of clam chowder. Walking around North Beach and decided to try Mo's, knowing it's been around for quite sometime. We were curious about this "no frills" diner. We entered around 5pm. There were at least 5 other tables during this off hour, which is a good sign. We both decided to get what they're known for, BURGERS! Each 1/2 lb patty is grilled over volcanic rock. When you enter, you can see the guy in the center cooking burgers! FRENCH BURGER ~ Best burger stuffed with imported goat cheese topped with caramelized onions on a crusty bun. I wanted medium rare which when I got it, it was a bit more rare than expected, but it was still good. I didn't get sick, so it's all good! But if you're not used to a red middle, I'd go with a medium doneness. The cheese was really rich and tasty! And I also got french fries on the side. (You get a choice of french fries, cup of chili, side salad, cole slaw or a cup of soup.) 5/5 PATTY MELT ~ Burger and 2 pieces of American cheese topped with caramelized onions on sourdough bread. This burger was perfectly medium rare, but the patty was only in the middle and would fit buns rather than two pieces of sliced bread. Basically, you don't get meat on the left or right side. I think if these patties are made to order, it should fit the bread? It just isn't as good if you get bites of onions and bread without meat. If you like meat and bread together, order a hamburger instead and skip the patty melt. The chili was good and a bit more spicy than expected. 3/5 It's about $20 for each burger with a side. That's an extra $4.50 for french fries, coke slaw, side salad, cup of chili or soup. Not bad considering your plate is really full and any hungry person would be satisfied at the end. Flame broiled burgers are a fine art that does not get enough credit. This place is just a classic North Beach diner that lets the food do the talking. Their fries are what in-n-out are supposed to be. Not too thin, flavorful, and the perfect amount of thickness. Super tasty. I've learned that If you have to put hella fancy schmancy proteins like pork belly or other high end toppings on a burger, it's prolly not very good. Another one of my SO's favorite places that he shared with me. He raves about their burgers so we stopped in one weekend for a late lunch/early dinner. He had a patty melt on a french roll instead of the usual, and I tried a bite. It was good.. well seasoned, and the fries were better than I expected as well. As for me, I had the BLT and it was great. Plenty of perfectly cooked, meaty, crispy bacon, fresh lettuce and tomato.. toasty bread...and I added avocado because of course. The cole slaw was a little on the sweet side which I normally don't go for but it was fresh, cold and crunchy and went really well with the salty bacon. Outstanding.
