I had a stunning vegetarian omelet with spinach and salsa, arranged in an intricate design, paired with crispy potatoes. My date had the steak and eggs, along with a Bloody Mary and a Corona. The plating was gorgeous my omelet almost looked like a work of art. The service was phenomenal, and after some research, I found out it's a beloved family business with outstanding reviews. I live in the area and have watched a lot of restaurants come and go in this spot, but Mayaflor has stuck around and I always noticed a steady crowd eating there. Finally decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. Showed up around 10am on a Saturday with one other person and we were seated immediately, no wait. The space is on the smaller side with limited seating inside and out, so that might change depending on when you go, but the timing worked out great for us. Service was genuinely lovely. Everyone was warm, quick to offer recommendations, and my order came out about 10 minutes after I placed it which I appreciated. I got the huevos rancheros and added bacon. Really good call. I ordered my eggs sunny side up and once that yolk broke over everything it just took the whole dish to another level. The kind of bite where all the flavors come together perfectly. Mayaflor has been my favorite brunch place in Polk Gulch. Now with a new chef and expanded menu, they started serving dinner, too! It's tucked away on a cute, quieter street corner so it might be easy to miss out, but they serve very authentic Peruvian food and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Peruvian/ Mexican food. The owner is Peruvian but she developed a menu that inspired both by Peruvian and Mexican food. It's one of a kind. The pulpo a la parrilla is tender and juicy, the sauce in lomo saltado is very rich and delicious. The empanadas is definitely one of the highlights of the evening. The service is amazing as always. MayaFlor left us satisfied but not impressed. We ordered the Peruvian quinoa salad with grilled chicken and the chilaquiles divorciados (red and green combo). We are HUGE fans of chilaquiles and have had our share of amazing chilaquiles. Though I appreciated that they offered a red and green combo, the chips lacked the thickness to hold the sauce without becoming soggy. The red and green sauces were both descent. Beans always take a chilaquiles over the top for us but the black beans in this dish fell flat. A delicious salad always excites my taste buds but the Peruvian salad missed the bar on greatness. The staff, though friendly, forgot the grilled chicken I added to the salad . They were very apologetic and provided a five star response by not charging me for the chicken that they eventually brought out. Unfortunately the chicken was a bit dry and the amount was not worth the $6 it would normally cost to add chicken breast. It was also disappointing that the olives added were not pitted and therefore could not be enjoyed with each bite of salad unless I wanted to chip a tooth. Overall the dishes were decent and it was not hard to finish both plates but with the abundance of excellent food options in SF, we will not be returning. read more

Try to snag a table outdoors if it's a sunny day -- they're located on a corner, so it's also a cool spot to people watch. With that said, there is a decent amount of indoor seating available. In order to enter, there are a few steps you'll have to go down (in case accessibility is something you consider). The restaurant is run by the cutest family so there's a cozy atmosphere. There's not too many staff members, so it might take a while for things to come out when it gets busy (pretty standard compared to other places). There's a decent amount of classic breakfast items, and then a fun mix of Mexican dishes. On weekends, they have various specials available if you want to try something off menu! I personally recommend getting a side of french fries with whatever you order-- they're one of my favorites in the city and I always order them when I come (spicy aioli sauce is also top tier). I haven't tried their drinks myself, but friends have enjoyed them. Overall, this spot is one of my most frequented and I don't see that changing anytime soon! I used to get brunch at Olea once a month back when I lived in Nob Hill, so I was pleased to learn that they brought back their chef and some of the brunch favorites like the cazuela and challah french toast to MayaFlor. I came for brunch today and ordered the chilaquiles divorciados style, since I wanted to try both the green and red sauces. The chilaquiles were so delicious. I ended up enjoying the red sauce more, but I liked getting both sauces. I stole some avocado from my partner's salad and wished I had ordered avocados on the side. These avocados were so tasty. We also got an 1/2 order of the French toast to share between two people, which was also a great choice. The French toast is even better than I remembered. I'm definitely going to add this to my regular brunch rotation and try the Peruvian items like the lomo saltado and pollo a la brasa. I was able to quickly snag a seat, order a coffee and ask for recommendations for a dish that was unique to them. I was recommended the Huevos Motuleños which ended up being a perfect suggestion. I had never tried anything like it. Peas, plantains, and ham scattered atop fried eggs stuffed within two fried tortillas. The sauce, combined with the beans, egg yolk, ham, peas, and plantains composed and I quote the server "a melody" of flavors. The only thing I didn't like was that it was gone almost immediately! The perfectly baked eggs in the tomato base sauce with tender meat and a slight smokiness, was very satisfying and the perfect portion for a savory brunch. Other dishes to notate are the chilaquiles.
