In the ranking of Mission Tacquerias, I would say the quality of the food is near the top. The food is a mix of Oaxacan and Salvadoran (papusas, plátanos, etc.) I got plátanos maduros and a súper taco and my friend got 3 tacos and a papusa. This is the only place on Mission St that serves a super taco as if it is actually from Mexico, with charred onions, chopped jalapeño, and avocado. It's an order at the counter, sit down spot, and it typically takes 10-15 minutes to get the food. There's a good amount of seating but at 9pm on a Thursday is was full and we had to wait a few minutes for a table to turnover. At night, it's on a section of Mission St that can get a little rowdy, but it's right near BART. read more

Stopped by for a late dinner. The surrounding area is not great and the ambience of the restaurant itself is nothing special. When we walked in we were pointed to a table but nobody came. We then realized that it was an order at the counter type of place, no big deal but would have been nice to know when being seated. I ordered a super burrito with pastor. The burrito was finished on the grill which is gave it a nice crunch on the outside. Overall, not very flavorful, smaller than most burritos, and fairly light on the meat. Ambiance - The ambiance for La Oaxaquena was nothing spectacular, but it can accommodate both small and large groups. Shoutout to them for having a complimentary water dispenser for us water drinkers! It was a cozy place but had good energy. Service - The service is deli style where you go to the counter and order/pay and get an order flag so they can bring your food. Staff was friendly and helpful. No complaints here! Food - They offer Oaxacan, Mexican, and Salvadoran offerings. I was in the mood for a pupusa, and they were great! I got a combo plate with rice and plantains and the rice and plantains were also great! I watched other dishes come out and everything looked very good. 5 star experience on the food for sure! Stopped by to get a Pastor super burrito w/o sour cream. It came with chips. Super came with guacamole. The tortilla is grilled and comes with black beans. The guy brings your food to your table and brings you two salsa (red & green). It's super filling. I also got a Jamaica (hibiscus) aquas frescas. I came here with friends after a night out and the food hit. Service was pretty quick, you go up to the counter to order and they bring the food to your table. I got the super quesadilla with chicken and the mango lemonade and both were so good. My friends also tried the lemonade and loved it, they ordered a super burrito and tacos and they loved it too. Aside from the outside factors that make going here unenjoyable, people smoking, trash, filth, sketchy people outside, the food and service was actually really good. The inside of the restaurant is actually pretty clean too. Came here late night to fulfill my burrito craving and ordered the super burrito with a meat mix of Carnitas and Chorizo. I think the combination of the two gave a good punch of seasoning without being too salty. The lettuce and tomato gave a really nice crunchy fresness while the beans, rice gave volume to each bite without taking away from the meat. The tortilla the didn't hold too well, it had a really nice color and even crispiness all around For the price, I felt the burrito was a little smaller than other burrito's I've had. So naturally I was a little disappointed in the size. But nonetheless it was still really good and packed with flavor. The red/rojo sauce packed a lot of flavor. The heat creeps on your but isn't too overpowering. The chips were also really good. Bigger than more places I've been too, didn't taste old despite being near closing time. Was in the area for an event and swung by for a quick dinner on a Sunday night. Ordered a super burrito with cabeza for protein and then chips and salsa. Cabeza costed an additional $1.50. The chips were the tiniest portion ever for $2, would prob just skip next time. Salsa is located in a mini fridge to the left of the counter. Burrito took about 10ish minutes to be ready. Portion wise it was pretty big, but flavor didn't really meet my expectations. There wasn't that much protein in the burrito and the cabeza itself wasn't that seasoned. Would recommend sharing one to try the other specialities (tamal and veggie burritos also caught my eye - they have a vegan chorizo option), as the whole tlayuda can get a bit heavy. Nothing against cheese or rice and bean tacos, but they don't pack the punch the city's savory meat tacos tend to. La Oaxaqueña is one of the only places I know with delicious vegetarian street style tacos starring soy chorizo (not the greasy red cumin flavored Soyrizo, much better). They also have burritos - soy chorizo is just one of their regular protein options, which is amazing! And the tacos are savory and flavorful and remind me if the meat tacos I once loved. The inside is colorful and cozy, service very friendly, I loved the music, food was delicious and inexpensive, sauces are great, and my tacos were accompanied by grilled onions and peppers. I was craving mole enchiladas and this place popped up on UberEats. I took a chance on ordering them and they were amazing!! The mole itself was really thick and flavorful, a bit sweet but not too much so. They were generous with the amount of mole sauce and it came with two chicken enchiladas. It also came with rice and refried beans. There was a separate container with lettuce and avocado. It also came with chips and red and green salsas - the red salsa was quite spicy and addicting! Wow!!! So so so yummy! Love the beans & rice with the sauce that came on the side. I did have it delivered and I added cheese on top myself. The pupusa was filled with chicken and was so flavorful. Awful service. We waited close to 2 hours (3 attempts) before they could get our order correct. They go by a name system, we sat one table near the counter (within ear shot) and did not hear our name called. I even went up to check in multiple times to make sure, but apparently they gave are food to someone else or might have been an excuse they gave us that they did not make it in the first place. The manager tried to make it right and remake the order. Did not write it down and got the order wrong for the 2nd attempt. (Which I give those attempts to someone in need outside.) Then the manager argued with me after I told them the order was still incorrect and said I told them the wrong items. Told me, "You don't know who I am, I'm someone you don't mess with!" Spent over $80 (I usually put a big tip at 30%) for just 3 burritos and the food is just okay at the end, definitely better places yet the only thing going for them it's open late (so most people, like us, were probably starving be the time they get there.) Hope people get better experiences. But If they cannot handle a busy day, they cannot handle a business! read more
