Pupusa combo (ruvuelta) with rice and plantains. Delicious!
    Craig C.

Visited this spot prior to a show at Chase Center, and it was a great experience! Let's get into it... Ambiance - The ambiance for La Oaxaquena was nothing spectacular, but it can accommodate both small and large groups. Shoutout to them for having a complimentary water dispenser for us water drinkers! It was a cozy place but had good energy. Service - The service is deli style where you go to the counter and order/pay and get an order flag so they can bring your food. Staff was friendly and helpful. No complaints here! Food - They offer Oaxacan, Mexican, and Salvadoran offerings. I was in the mood for a pupusa, and they were great! I got a combo plate with rice and plantains and the rice and plantains were also great! I watched other dishes come out and everything looked very good. 5 star experience on the food for sure! Overall, this was a good atmosphere, good service and people, and great food. Easy 5 star experience for me and I'd gladly come back to try other delicious items!

    Super Burrito

Went at midnight on a Sunday and the place was still bustling. The food took a little while to come out, but everything arrived hot and fresh. The carne asada was flavorful and tender. The quesabirria, though, was a bit underwhelming on its own -- not very crispy or cheesy and didn't have much flavor unless dipped in the consommé. The burrito was solid overall. The guacamole was just plain avocado.

Came here off a whim on a late night craving Mexican. Lots of other factors that deter the average person from coming to this place, but man this place did not disappoint. Great service and friendly people. Inside was really clean and the set up is really nice. Ordered a asada super burrito and asada taco. Super burrito: Tortilla was crispy but the burrito was ripped in the middle unfortunately. Asada tacos: Tortilla was very crispy and Meat was seasoned perfectly. The best thing I ordered. Must try in the mission if your in the area.

I came here with friends after a night out and the food hit. Service was pretty quick, you go up to the counter to order and they bring the food to your table. I got the super quesadilla with chicken and the mango lemonade and both were so good. My friends also tried the lemonade and loved it, they ordered a super burrito and tacos and they loved it too. It was still pretty busy late at night but we were able to get a table and had a great time. Would recommend!

The chicken Mole enchiladas are bomb! So authentic and taste of Mexico. Highly recommended, great service and ambience

This was almost just another typical SF Mission taquería experience - but then that's when I saw the sign that read - "Today's Special: Jerk chicken burrito"!! WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?!! It sounded crazy at first, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense - not to mention that the concept just works. I would love to return to try their classic burrito, but it's good to know that they have an innovative flare. BB

Stopped by for some late night tacos. Honestly this spot exceeded expectations- my friends even ordered from here again a couple days later because they were still thinking about it!

Was in the area for an event and swung by for a quick dinner on a Sunday night. Ordered a super burrito with cabeza for protein and then chips and salsa. Cabeza costed an additional $1.50. The chips were the tiniest portion ever for $2, would prob just skip next time. Salsa is located in a mini fridge to the left of the counter. Burrito took about 10ish minutes to be ready. Portion wise it was pretty big, but flavor didn't really meet my expectations. There wasn't that much protein in the burrito and the cabeza itself wasn't that seasoned. I kind of drowned the burrito into salsa to get any taste. Vibes were cute inside though.

When you first walk in, you get to experience the beauty of Hispanic culture. I really love how to interior is decorated. The cashier was super welcoming and helpful with the menu. He made a few recommendations on what to get. Then we sat down at a table and was given chips and mole. I've never mole but the mole was DELICIOUS. Overall, great service and great food!

    Pupusas combo #1

The pupusa's were so good, highly recommend! The staff was also very friendly, and it's open late.

We had the super burrito and the quesadillas, both of which tasted mediocre. The flavor was bland, so I wasn't sure if they were going for a healthy style or what, basically flavorless. And it took a while to get our food, even though we were dining in.

    Al pastor tacos

idk what the going rate for tacos is, but for some tacos that were marked as 3.75 on the menu, I ended up paying 10.24 for 2 this spot was actually an established shop inside a building. You order first then sit down with a number. There were cute tablecloth details at each table. We got al pastor to try to compare to El Charro that we had right before this and it was honestly fine but nothing remarkable. I did actually like the salsas though just cuz i prefer the more watery (rather than creamy) salsas. This spot also gave grilled onions which were quite tasty

After paying $30 for a few tacos which is ridiculous they will fight you on the amount of salsas you can have. Really pathetic.

Do you sell the Oaxaca cheese itself?

You would have to go to many of the markets on Mission for that. This is a restaurant.

Did they change their hours? I was by on a Thursday a little after 2pm and they were closed.

    Is the food halal?

They have pork dishes on the menu, so I would be very surprised if their non-pork were halal. Best I can suggest is a Latinx place that has a lot of vegan dishes, Sun Rise on 24th (which I like a lot, although they do also have dishes with pork if… Read more

I'd give them about a 3.5 out of 5. On a good day, they come out with that perfect golden-brown finish. On a bad day, they look and taste undercooked to the point where I've had to throw them back on the stove at home just to make them edible. The ambiance doesn't do much to help. It's your typical Mission-style Latin restaurant, kind of sticky and worn-in, but in a way where you can't quite tell if it's part of the aesthetic or just a lack of upkeep. Now, let's get into why this leans closer to a one-star experience. The staff consistently come off like they'd rather be anywhere else. They don't smile and often come across as rude. Timing is basically a suggestion here. If you place a takeout order, plan well ahead, at least 45 to 60 minutes before pickup. Every single time I've called, I've been told 25 to 30 minutes, only to arrive and wait another 15 to 20 minutes. Without fail. And in a neighborhood where parking is already a headache, with limited meters and tight timing, you'll feel that delay. Your patience will absolutely be tested. Don't say I didn't warn you. Update: Today's order included a hit inside the cheese mixture of the Pupusas. Disgusting.

Other spots I'm eating masa. Unlike many places that serve greasy pupusas, these are nicely made and not greasy. We usually order takeout since the dining area is small unless you go early. Parking can be a headache, but I've always managed to snag a spot (knock on wood). The staff are friendly, and we always leave full and happy!

While it's not the fastest, the food is terrific so I am fine waiting for my delicious pupusas! I usually get the pork, bean and cheese pupusas which are really good but mixed it up last time and got the jalapeno and cheese ones but felt like there wasn't quite enough cheese in those so I'll prob just go back to the pork, bean and cheese ones since they seem more balanced.
