WOW! It takes a lot for my eyelids to fly open wide when I have a bite of food from ANY restaurant. As in, "I'm wide awake, you have my attention now!" Fresh and crunchy shrimp, tons of fresh cilantro, onions, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, lime.. taco of your dreams. I came over the weekend and decided to try this place because someone referred me. I'm always hesitant when people overhype restaurants because, more often than not, I end up disappointed when the food doesn't live up to the expectations. Unfortunately, that was my experience here. I ordered a taco plate that came with two tacos, rice, and beans. I got one shrimp taco and one fish taco, along with a side supreme chicken taco. The shrimp and fish tacos were just "ahh" to me. They were very plain -- basically just the shell with the seafood. The fish itself tasted good, but the shrimp didn't have much flavor. It felt like I was eating plain shrimp in a dry shell. The chicken taco had onions and cilantro and was okay, but nothing that stood out. Overall, the food tasted like canned or pre-seasoned meat to me. I've had tacos from other places that tasted much more homemade and freshly cooked. The beans also had that canned taste. I spent about $25 and tipped because I genuinely expected the food to be good based on the recommendation. On top of that, my soda was missing from the bag. This was the same day as the Castro Street Fair, so I called before having to deal with the traffic again to let them know about the missing drink and that my tacos were plain and dry. I also added my phone number to the original order, but the cashier skipped it, so I didn't receive my points. When I went back, I handed the food to the employee, and he took my already-bitten shrimp taco and simply added onion and cilantro to it. I honestly didn't expect an already-eaten taco to be taken back and altered rather than having a fresh taco prepared to correct the issue. I really wanted to like this place, and I hate having to leave a negative review, but I can only speak on my experience. Unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected, and I won't be returning. Very disappointing customer service. Normally, I'm not a person of giving a bad reviews but here I have to. I came in around 1 AM after a 12-mile walk and simply asked if the fries in my order could be replaced with salad or extra meat. While discussing my request, I heard the cashier talking with chef and complain and make a comment suggesting they could do whatever because "they're all drunk." I was completely sober, respectful, and never argued with anyone. Assuming that customers are drunk simply because it's late at night in the Castro is disrespectful and unprofessional. If a modification cannot be made, simply say no. There is no reason to make degrading assumptions about customers. Late-night customers deserve the same basic respect and professional service as anyone else. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses how customers are spoken about and treated. read more

I ordered 5 "VEGAN chicken al pastor" tacos through DoorDash and unfortunately they were not vegan. At first glance it wasn't obvious, but after taking a bite the texture felt off, grainy and nothing like the usual vegan option. After looking closer, it became clear this was actual chicken. I called the restaurant to double check, and I was told there was "no way" it was chicken and that it was definitely vegan. That didn't sit right with me, so I went in person. As soon as the staff looked at it, they immediately confirmed it was chicken. I was then told it was likely a mix-up by a "new employee." That's honestly concerning. This isn't just a small mistake, serving real meat to someone who ordered vegan is a big deal. I haven't eaten chicken in years, and places that offer both vegan and non-vegan options should be especially careful about this. It also didn't feel like the seriousness of the mistake was fully understood, which made it worse. I do appreciate that they remade the tacos correctly on the spot, but this isn't the first issue I've had here just the most serious one. Because of that, I don't feel comfortable ordering from here again. If you have dietary restrictions, just be cautious. This kind of mix-up shouldn't happen. read more

Talk about delicious late night eats! We had carne asada tacos (as is for me, no onions + cheese for him). I had an asada supreme quesadilla & it was love at first bite. Im a carne asada girl but I'm happy that they have an extensive Vegan menu too. I can add it to the list of places I'll take some of my friends when they're in town. They have multiple beyond meat options, jackfruit, tofu, and gardein chick'n. We door dashed and the prices were super high- I checked their menu online though and it's way cheaper if you go in person. I understand why businesses have to do this so no biggie. I'm not the biggest fan of their burritos (there are better options nearby), but their nacho fries are my go-to. Pro tip: order online and select fries on the side, then select chips as a side, for the perfect deconstructed nachos and crispy fries combo. Both the red and green salsas are on the mild side. Taco boys is my new favorite taco Tuesday spot, and probably the most vegetarian friendly taco spot I have ever been to!! I go here for taco tuesdays, where all tacos (meat and vegetarian) are 2 dollars! I think the deal ends around 730? But not all night sadly. The tacos are small, and I usually end up eating ~5, so it's a great deal. Otherwise it is more expensive other days and feels maybe less worth it ( I believe the fake meat ones are 4 dollars regularly). My favorite are the fake sausage, the vegan Al pastor, and vegan carne asada. Truly mind blowing, and such a great way for vegetarians to get their street taco fix without needing to eat meat! (there are sadly so few good alternatives). I've also tried the jackfruit and the vegan chorizo- I thought both were a little too sweet for my taste but my partner loved the vegan chorizo. I will also say that as a flexitarian (lol) I snuck a bite of my partners carne asada and Al pastor and we blown away by both. This place has something for vegetarians and meat eaters alike!! The cons- this place is tiny! Be prepared to either sit outside or struggle to find a table inside during peak taco Tuesday hours. A lot of people seem to get food to go, so that's an option. Overall though, 100% worth the struggle to get a seat, especially on a Tuesday. Have not found a better vegetarian spot than this one for excellent street tacos! read more

Came in around 1am. They have pretty limited indoor seating and also outdoor seating. There's a kiosk you can use to order right outside next to the door. My friend and I ordered carne asada fries to share with no pico de gallo. It was pretty busy so it took about 15 minutes for our food to be ready. Overall taste was pretty good, I wish there were more jalapenos, they're definitely a good addition to the dish!!!! We also ordered refried beans but got pinto beans. I came here with my soccer team after practice and Taco Boys fulfilled our sports induced hunger. One of us got the steak super burrito con sour cream guacamole with French fries (San Diego style). It's one of the few places that offer this. My friend and I shared a Quesadilla suiza con Chile verde, deliciously spicy and easy to share. The Carne asada tacos deserve a 10 out of 10 with big chunks of meat. And finally I tried my friend's al pastor tacos which was meaty but not too saucy.
