I had both the Mexican Mocha and Huevos Rancheros. Although I'm not an expert on Mexican mochas, mine was satisfying and it was nice to get a break from more common purely sweet mochas. The Huevos Rancheros portion was generous and decent value. We all ordered the chilaquiles, and they were good, don't get me wrong, but they were over priced for the portion, plus the order didn't not include rice and beans as it usually does elsewhere. Food was tasty and service was okay. The reason I'm giving two stars is for cleanliness. The window was very dirty lots of dead bugs that I think have been there for days if not weeks. The second and most concerning thing is that this lady was going back and forth to the kitchen with a backpack and a little chihuahua dog on it. Every time she would turn around, the dog will be at the height of the prep table and the stove, then they let the dog loose in the restaurant and it was walking freely in the kitchen and dinning area. But two others found that fried eggs were overcooked, that seasonings were lacking, and that a hot drink was served, barely warm. The service was not friendly and the food is not authentic I ordered popusas from the menu that said Salvadorian popusas but the taste was awful bc they made the popusas with mozzarella or Monterey American cheese instead of the traditional Salvadorian popusas cheese not to mention the beans mixed with it is black and pinto??? I have never ate a popusas like that until today! On top of one of the ladies making the food was coughing which I should've knows better to not order once I seen that but didn't think of it bc she was in the back I called for a refund or to replace that awful plate and they denied it stating that's how they make it and that the menu doesn't say Salvadorian popusas when it clearly does. My favourite part of this cafe is eating on the outdoor patio. My second favourite part is the Mexican Mocha. But the food is also excellent. I've only ever eaten the breakfast/brunch options The plato tipico sounds quite simple but everything is done really well. I also like the chilaquiles. I haven't ventured farther down the menu because I like those enough I keep going back to them. It's a little bit pricier than your average place that serves burritos but not a whole lot, and this is more of a place for lunch on the patio, enjoying the atmosphere, than for quick takeout. Amazing food. My friend and I visited for breakfast on two occasions, since it's close by to us. Now it's one of our favorite places for breakfast or lunch. They have a wide variety of Latin dishes and a really nicely decorated indoor and outdoor setup. When I walk out of Golden Gate Park due west, I more often take Haight since it's full of activity, but this time, I walked on the much quieter Hayes Street. In fact, I never think there are any eateries on the stretch before Divisadero, but then I unexpectedly came upon this low-key Salvadoran cafe. Even though there were no customers in the middle of the afternoon, the quiet space and the smallish menu appealed to me. More than the pupusas, arepas, or the fish tacos served here, what really drew my attention.was the $16 Pozole Soup Bowl. Even though I didn't ask, it was a pozole verde, not rojo. That happened to be my preference since I'm a pozole verde/menudo rojo combo kinda eater. It just came with a few tortilla chips, but that was enough. Good stuff probably because it had been sitting in their stockpot all day. Found this restaurant on instagram for must eat breakfast spots. Very pleased with the service, and food. There was not a wait, and it is seat yourself and order inside. The restaurant has seating outside with heaters that I appreciate, and the inside is very quaint and cozy. Huevos rancheros were filling and delicious, very flavorful. I've tried to give this place multiple chances since I live nearby. The first time it was pretty good, and it's only gone down from there. I went last weekend to treat myself to a breakfast burrito. I came here on a Saturday during brunch time with a group of people as we wanted to grab some food close to the panhandle. We decided on this place as it seemed like it offered some unique flavors. It is a small cozy place, so probably easier to come with a smaller group of people, but we luckily got a table that fit us all. I ordered the papusas plate as it was fully vegetarian. It did take a long time to get my food, I didn't receive it until 15 minutes after everyone else in my group had ordered their food, so it was unfortunate I was unable to enjoy the food at the same time. Manitas Cafe has very good pupusas, but with limited choices (vegetarian and chicharrón), and the pretty high price, you may be better off going to another pupusería if available. That being said, they were hearty and not greasy at all. And I've never had pupusas come out so quickly before. Pretty damn good mexican food that hits the spot when you are craving that salty spicy breakfast after a solid night of drinking! Chilaquiles are off the chain and the coffee is excellent. Eggs were prepared well to mix with the delicious chili sauce or mole' of the chilaquiles. The only thing missing is maybe a little protein on the side. I could use a side of carne asada or something like that to fill the void. Overall this place has interesting and flavorful dishes.
