I have only used their rental equipment which has been in good shape and for a fair price. Good folks too.

I recently needed a small engine repair for my power washer. I called the store and Mark was very helpful over the phone. I dropped off the power washer that afternoon and they were helpful in getting me checked in quickly. They charge a $60 diagnosis fee which can be applied to the repair. I am eagerly awaiting to hear back in a couple weeks. Great customer service. read more

We try to support small business when we can so we purchased our chainsaw from a local independent store a couple of years ago. My husband made the common mistake of putting the oil and gas in the wrong reservoirs. He took it to the independent store to have it cleaned out. The wanted a minimum of $85 to repair and said they had as much as a two month wait to get it back. My husband is in the middle of a wood cutting project and couldn't wait. I looked on Yelp to try to locate another repair shop and came across good reviews for True Value on Missouri Flat. He was pleasantly surprised when he walked into True Value today with his chainsaw and Joe, knowing we didn't but it there, fixed it on the spot for FREE! My husband offered to pay but Joe said, "really, no charge". We will be making our future purchases from True Value! read more

We recently bought a ranch in Plymouth and we are new to this world. The staff here at True Value have been nothing but great. Started out buying some Stihl equipment and moved up to a John Deere riding mower, Don was very helpful. Went in a couple of weeks ago to talk to Don about a new tractor, I didn't want to get one that in 6 months I'd want a bigger one. Don walk my wife and I through their large stock of tractors and he helped us pick out the right one for our current needs and one that can grow with us. They delivered it and then sent out a very helpful mechanic to show me how to hook up the roto cutter and then a week later they came back out and hooked up another part for me. I have posted a previous positive review and just had to add that my John Deere was delivered in style by JD representative Keith who is based at True Value on Missouri Flat Rd in Placerville. Knowing it was my first riding mower, he took a lot of time to teach me the basics and left me feeling confident and incredibly thankful. Placerville is not my neck of the woods, but I think I will just have to go back there, since they have spoiled me for the no service places like HD and L. I looked through the other reviews for this business. A common thread is seen. Non compliance with Covid precautions to save lives. The management and store employees do not adhere to or respect CDC or state pandemic precautions. No masks, no distancing, no barriers at the register. The new Covid case rate in EDC has gone from 3 to 79 in the last week, but this business in is total Covid pandemic denial. This business has a sad disregard for public safety. This will be my last visit. I try to support small businesses in Placerville, but this one does not support my health and welfare. We have been fortunate in EDC to have lower case rates and hospitalizations but that can change with new Covid variants in California. Avoid this place and be well. read more

This place is great. I feel I owe them at the very least a review. We spent the last year building a house and although at times we needed the big box stores, they just don't give you the customer service. Every time I would walk into true value hardware, I was greeted with a hello, a smile, and they would ask. How can I help you. Often I would go here, not knowing exactly which parts I would need, so I would always ask for help. Although they are all helpful here, there is one gentleman by the name of Brian, who was always more than willing to help, he would go from aisle to aisle to make sure you had the proper parts or pieces that you needed. He is super knowledgeable and although building a house can be a stressful situation, seems he would at least take the stress away from trying to find the right part. Sometimes you need to go to those big box stores to get what you need but if you want great customer service and knowledgeable, friendly people, then this is the place. read more

I called to try to buy a riding mower on my day off on a Monday there was literally no one there to help me the cashier answered and would not find someone to go outside to see if or find someone to look for me. It's absolutely ridiculous you wanna spend thousands of dollars at someone's store and they can't make the effort to see what stock they have. what a disappointment. read more

This post was for about a month ago when I visited. Good selection of stuff and clean store but didn't have what we needed. Signs for covid measures yet every single employee in the store was in masked and no distancing set in place. Seemingly common for the area. However with a newborn and elderly parents including one who's contracted covid I am upset by their lack of care for others and will not be returning for future service. I found it quite interesting that they had a plastic screen at the counter between you and the cashier yet zero masks or enforcement and staff just walking around maskless trying to be "helpful " up in your face. read more

My wife and I really like this store. I take chainsaw blades and chipper blades in for sharpening. They always come back very sharp, without a lot of metal being taken off. I've rented equipment from them and the equipment performed well. I also like that they have Traeger wood pellets for my smoker. Now I don't have to go to Sacramento to get them. Customer service is always above and beyond what you'd hope for, with a team that knows what they are talking about. Never have I gone in and not been made to feel welcome. Home Depot misses my patronage. read more

We have often gone to this store over the years to get hardware we need and avoid the crowds at Home Depot. Sadly, each time we have gone during the pandemic, we have found both employees and customers not wearing masks to protect us, even when there is a state mandate requiring masks. We are senior citizens and therefore at the highest risk of death from COVID 19. We wish True Value valued our lives and followed state regulations. We will stop going there. read more

I recently had my lawnmower repaired here. They initially told me they were about 1.5-2 weeks out on projects, which was fine. I dropped it off, and they took a $60 deposit. The staff was polite and helpful. About 4 days later I got a call with the diagnosis and ok'ed the repair. Three weeks passed, and I hasn't heard from them so I called to check up on it. They said it would be done Saturday. I didn't get a call on Saturday, so I called back on Monday. He said it still wasn't done but it was next on the list. He assured me it was an easy repair and it wouldn't take long to finish. I finally got a couple days later saying it was done. It ended up being $80. Staff was always polite and helpful, but it sounded like maybe they only had one person doing repairs. It was frustrating to be told they had a 1.5-2 week timeline, and get it back a month later. However, we did get it back and it works, so I guess that is the important part? If and when I need small engine repair, I might find a shop that specializes in this instead of trying these guys again. The store itself seems just fine. read more

I'm so glad this store is around. If they had lumber I'd buy everything from here. After being forced to go to a big box store for a few things, I walked out and decided to drive to True Value. I was looking for some fly traps and was immediately helped by one of the female employees. She not only knew the aisle number but also took the time (I interrupted her shelf building project) to walk me over to them. She even knew the sale price. I also needed some 2-cycle oil for my yard tools and a helpful gentleman gave me the aisle number and exact location. The cashier was equally nice. Unfortunately, I am having a very frustrating experience. This True Value has had a brand new Honda Generator of mine for over two months and continue to push me off saying that cannot control the delivery of their parts. This was a recall repair. Then suddenly they said the carburetor is bad when it's brand new. It's never been used. Now it's like being held hostage. The manager passes me to the parts manager, and then back to the site manager, and then no one calls me back. Time after time. My hope is that this gets us our generator back; like yesterday. It's been there, not ready for pick up since May 24th, 2020! What?! read more

When I first went in here 4 years ago they wouldn't give me the time of day. Now, I'm usually asked if I need any help within minutes. My complaint is old, dented, rusty product(s), still on the shelves. I was determined to complete a roof product I had so I am at least half at fault. Went in and gave them the model numbers of a Stihl weed whacker and blower both battery powered. They wrote down the item model #'s and told me they would call me when they arrived. A couple of days later, they called and told me that they had them in stock and I could come in. I thought that was funny that they could not tell me the first visit if something was in stock. So I went in to the store to pick up my items and discovered they actually did not have the items that I wanted. So they took my order again. This time I received an actual printed order with each item and the cost. The order included a battery bag, belt and cable that went with the weed whacker. So a week or so later I again received a call that my order was in. So I went in and said yes, it was here, but they would have to assemble it. OK fine, so I went to lunch. After lunch, it was assembled, but the accessories were not present and I asked about them. So they spent about 15 minutes rummaging around their back area and finally produced some items that had obviously been either used or lying around for a very long time. The cost proposed to me for the cable was way higher than the print out I was given. It did not take me much time to realize that these items did not even fit my weed whacker. An excuse was made that they did not sell many of this particular type of weed whacker. All the more reason to learn about the particular model before calling me. In fairness, I will mention that there was a mistake on the Stihl website regarding which battery was to be used with this model. However, it seems to me that the product should be ready to go when a customer is called and is told that it is ready to go. For me, three trips, zero weed whackers. I had run out of time while they were trying to figure stuff out. I asked them to contact me when they did get it figured out. Everyone was polite and cordial the whole time. No call. I guess for future power tool purchases I will try the Stihl dealer in Folsom. read more

Time after time I am impressed with my local hardware store. Have had numerous chain saw chains sharped. Had a small engine repaired (lawnmower). Purchased lots of odds and ends. Then returned some of the same odds and ends all while leaving happy and satisfied. I even attended ladies night a few weeks back. I got some fun things for my garden at a great deal along with some free goodies. Extras, like Ladies night really give this hardware store the community feel I so love. read more

I have been in the market for a small tractor to use in my yard for several months.  I was originally considering a Kubota over a John Deere mainly because of the cost.  After dealing with several dealers in Northern California without success, and sometimes nor even the courtesy of a return phone call, I thought I would try the John Deere dealer in Placerville.  Not only did Don have an inventory to pick from he never failed to return a call or email within an hour,  he is very knowledgeable about his product and willing to do whatever is required to earn my business.  Though I have not purchased a new tractor yet, when and if I do it will be from Don and his staff. read more

VIP service today, asked employee Ray to point me in the direction for the aisle for machine screws, he walked us there and asked how could he help. I told him that we needed a replacement bolt for the one that had sheared off of my wheelchair arm. He took a look at it, pulled out a couple of different sizes until he thought he found the right one, then he went and found a screwdriver. Finally he discovered that the the hole had been stripped. He got a longer bolt and a nut, tightened them up; problem solved. Total charge- 25 cents! great service, great store! read more

bought my 1025r jd tractor and several attachments here a few years ago and shopped here whenever i could to avoid hd. unfortunately, i've had two bad experiences this year. the most important, as others have noted, is that this store puts their comfort and profit above the safety of customers and staff. when i tried to enter the store, no one had a mask on. i left immediately won't be back. i also agree with another reviewer who said if you need help with your jd tractor, go elsewhere. i ordered a dh1048 and had to call repeatedly and finally ask to speak to a manager just to get order status. then when it came in (months later), they sold it to someone else. i won't be back even once covid is under control. read more

I brought my Stihl string trimmer in for repair March 31, 2017. The time for the estimate was quoted as 3 weeks, and I told the repair desk I also needed a new pull cord (mine was frayed) and a new kill switch. About 4 weeks later, I finally got the estimate, and they said they would have to order the parts, which included a tune up kit, pull cord, and switch. To make a long story short, I got my Stihl string trimmer back 9 weeks after dropping it off for repair. It's not like the grass doesn't grow much in April and May! I learned my lesson. I will never use this repair shop again. They are pleasant people, but the performance was completely unacceptable. read more

My wife and I weren't having our best day as we went into true value to get her a weed whacker. The girls were arguing on the drive out, covid isolation patience wearing thin. The place was soooo busy and we had no idea what to buy. Our stress was high. We were not having the best conversation when a rep came up and helped us. In about 5 minutes he had us into a great weed whacker for the wife. He gave his recommendation and even put us into something that cost less than we were looking at. Upon check out he mentioned he was the owner. I'm sure he must have seen us confused and in a bad state and quickly jumped in with a very friendly customer service helping us get exactly what we needed.
