They would not let me return for store credit even tho I was going to purchase something more expensive. Not the way to treat small town customers. Won't be going back. read more

This hardware store is off the charts! I have been shopping there when ever I have needed something that I needed for our camping trips to the crystal basin. Just today I tried to find a Big Buddy propane heater. I searched all over the Roseville and Sacramento area sporting goods stores and none of the big box stores had this item in stock. Yes I could have ordered this item and had it in 4 to 5 days, not this true value hardware store, they had two of these heaters in stock. Many years ago when my wife and I took are two granddaughters camping and fishing for kokanee, broke the glass on our Coleman lantern and true value in pollock pines had the glass, when we couldn't find it anywhere else! The customer service is helpful & friendly. A big plus for me because I usually have a lot of questions! You don't feel like your inconveniencing them like you do in some of the bigger stores. I have gone to this hardware store for over 40 years when Don started the business. Since the other family members have taken over the business, its been all about the money and not customer service. I needed to board up a window on my 5th wheel travel trailer. Not an easy task on a ladder and on the street with only a few tools. These people really worked as a team when I was concentrated on HOW to make a wooden board solve this open window problem(after the rain storm the night before). My only expectation was that I might get the wood. Not only did they have the wood...... They cut it to the special size after running out on the street with me to find the "insert" measurements to avoid window hardware and more damage to the RV. Thank-you and especially to Mark for his incredible determination to get this wood to fit. It remains in place after I painted it and proved it is solid and looks good after 400+ more miles of travel. read more

OK, if you need something badly and can't\don't want to drive to Placerville. Otherwise, they cost too much and too small (for example, play sand is twice as much as Home Depot and half the weight). The older guy there is very nice; so are most of the clerks. One guy there (first name starts with a K) loaded a bag of play sand and noticed it was broke. He just let it be and didn't offer to load me a bag that wasn't torn. Stay away from here, unless it's a giant emergency. read more

Believe me if I could avoid ever having to drive down that damn hill for anything I would but this store just isn't big enough or Id buy everything here, even if it costs a little more. The customer service at home depot in placerville is awful, but this place is very friendly, and always helpful. Even when they are sometimes way too busy, they are still really nice about it. I wish they would triple in size and have a full garden and landscaping center and household center, then Id never have to go to that dreadful little town down the hill. Why drive 30 minutes save a dollar on a rake when you can get one here in five minutes and be back home having margaritas on the patio cuz who wants to rake the yard anyway? Went there with the hammer, males in the store always helpful and said they would take care of it. Service is friendly and everybody there seems to know where things are, and what you might need for a project. Purchased two keys and was not told the cost and finished my purchase and to my surprise the cost was $9.00, which I thought was an outrageous amount. When back to the store on the 15th, and questioned the cost and Maddie didn't have a clue on what to do about it. Asked to speak to the owner, whom is Dave, and asked why he didn't make customers aware of the high cost of making keys, he had no response, and I was outraged by that, and told him I was displeased and wouldn't return to this store again. I've gone into True Value many times and always gotten great service. True they are smaller than the big box store down the hill, but the people are local and friendly. Also, I've found that they have most of what I need and the time saved to drive down the hill offsets the cost if it is higher. Also, if I need something and they don't have it they order if for me. The owners are locals in the community who give back to our neighbors. Its a win-win. Also, they have a lumber yard and any weekend projects I need to do they have the materials. read more

I go here instead of Home Depot for lots of items. I got a nice electric leaf blower, name brand, for fifty bucks and love it. The people are friendly and helpful. A heater I bought gave me trouble and they put it on a repair table and fixed it right in front of me. I highly recommend this place and will continue to refer friends here. read more

I agree with the other review. These stores should be avoided unless it's an emergency for cost reasons. I also like to look around undisturbed and every employee working will ask if you need help. Sometimes more than once. I walked in and the girl asked me. I asked where the glue was. She told me and I went there. I am standing there looking for what I need. I hear an employee one isle over. A few minutes later I feel someone literally breathing down my neck. I turn around and this guy is standing so close to me it was creepy. Lol! I said excuse me and stepped aside. He starts adjusting the very products I am trying to look at. Seriously?! There is nobody else hardly there and you have to do that right now, right here while I'm trying to look at them??? I went into the local True Value store telling an employee what kind of project I was working on, not only did this employee sell me items that would never work but proceeding with my project with the items I was quickly sold WAS ILLEGAL to install!! Then when I went within the allotted time to return these expensive items the cashier and another employee said oh we can't take that item back because and that item we can't take back either because but we can give you a return on the LEAST expensive item!!! What a rip off and I feel as a woman I was conned...I implore you especially women doing projects, take the time and gas and go down the hill to Home Depot or other where they are reputable and won't con you to make a dollar!!!! This is a wonderful local hardware store, and we in Pollock Pines are lucky to have it. This is our go-to store for hardware items. Sure, there is a Home Depot 25 minutes down the freeway, but that's an hour in the car to maybe, just maybe, save a few bucks (but you've lost way more than that in gas and time). Plus, you spend a lot of time getting in there, getting around, and getting back out. Who wants that? The people in our True Value Hardware are our friends and neighbors. In the last 7 years I have purchased items and found the experience pleasant. Nice people always willing to help you. However 2 weeks ago we took 2 screens in for re-screening. I had inquired by phone if they did this and how much? I was told $15 for the sliding glass door screen and 5-8 dollars for the window screen. A few bucks for the new wheels on the screen door. OK -so I thought $30.00 should cover it. We dropped both screens off on a Friday and was told they would be ready Sunday. We told them we wouldn't be back until Tues or Wed. We went back on Tuesday and no work had been started on the items. Once again we were assured they would have them the following day. Returned on Friday and nope not done. Returned this last Monday - the door was done - but not the window screen. We waited for the screen to be done and went to pay for it. The lady rang it up and said it was $66.15. I said there must be some mistake. No mistake. I paid them the money but I am livid. When you are quoted a price - you have the option of either agreeing to it or not - I may have well paid $66.15 - but feels like a bait and switch to me. We have always tried to shop Mom and Pop stores that keep the money in the community we live in. This really truly very sad that a local business would do this. Guess I will have to make trips to Ace in Pleasant Valley instead of here. Sad isn't it? read more
