Sometimes a quick hardware run turns into an unexpected test of patience. On December 5, 2025 at…read morearound 5:15 PM, a friendly cashier called the manager over because two clearance items were incorrectly priced. One item wasn't marked at all, and the other showed a $10 sticker with an additional 50% off. When I scanned the barcode in the Ace Hardware app, the item rang up as $2.99, so I kindly requested a price match based on Ace's own listed pricing. The manager entered the interaction abruptly, avoided eye contact, and loudly exclaimed "What the F***"--a remark heard by several customers in nearby lines. This was both unprofessional and unnecessary. He then insisted the online price was inaccurate and attempted to charge an incorrect amount ($31.99!!), even after I showed the product information. I ultimately ordered the items for in-store pickup at the correct price, but the situation could have been resolved quickly and respectfully in the moment. I've included a photo with the serial number so this can be reviewed by leadership and handled more appropriately going forward. The rest of the staff was excellent; the issue was solely with the manager's conduct. I hope future visits to this location reflect the professionalism Ace is known for.

Today was my full day of chores. Atmosphere - Good size local paint store. Several departments, see pictures. Plenty of parking. Open 6 days a week from 6:30am or 8am to 4pm or 6pm. Service - Kayla was amazing! Patient and gave many good suggestions. Including additional options for painters (we asked), which hopefully we will not need. When we got here, there were many employees working. Price - $100 for a paint consultation to have them come out to your property. Free if you speak to a paint consultant in-house. Since we were here, we went with the free in-house service. Our painter includes the cost of the paint and our painter is NOT inexpensive. Look forward to seeing the end results. I purchased the faucet that would be delivered the next day. the next day they did deliver. However, when the plumber saw the faucet was the wrong finish, and had been previously installed somewhere, and was missing parts. And, on the plumbers list was a basket drain...the technician at Western told me I didn't need a new one. The plumber is mad at me, and the basket drain I had is now leaking, and I do not drive or have a car to go get one. I have been literally screwed to the wall by this plumber and Western. Still no usable sink. And, looking at a cost of over $2,000 to install a $200 moen faucet. just a small sampling of what's really happening. Oh, and if you have the Toto dual flush toilets, there are no parts available...you have to replace the toilet...according to Roto Rooter and my own research.

I tried to explain that these were just pvc fittings parts and pieces put together but "Nate" once again became the know it all and said those are all product specific and we wont carry any of those. I went to the place the guy sent me and the folks there were so kind and told me that when Mike gets in he'll be able to take care of it or i could go right down the street where they get their parts and western could take care of me. I told her not in a million years. That "Nate" guy is a real P.O.S. And has a bad attitude. I thanked her and said i want to try some other places and if i cant find what i need I'll come back. Went to Leslie's pool supply. They once again didn't have all the parts and suggested i go to western, and again i told them what happened and how "Nate" was such a P.O.S. to me so, all 3 of the very nice and kind employees there tried to help me find the pvc fittings i needed to fix my issue and showed me where i could get them on line since they couldn't help me with the pieces. I never sop online, i prefer to go to local places but in this instance, happy to give my business to anyone other than this place.

We ordered a fireplace with installation and they provided a great list of plumbers and contractors for us to use for the gas line hook up. From start to finish they were professional. Are they expensive? Yes. It's a luxury mountain town, I get it. As I mentioned, I could browse their furnishings forever, they have so many great decor items from leather chairs, art, wind chimes and everything in between. I did notice that some prices are marked up, for example the hot tub cleaners and such. (Almost by double vs Amazon). Overall, a wonderful spot for your mountain home needs and gifts. If you are looking for a new fireplace/stove, I do not hesitate to recommend them.

Mountain Home Center sold two covers for the same property in Incline Village. Both failed prematurely. When we raised the issue, the company's president responded that "covers don't last long up here," that they sell "hundreds every year," and that owners should expect to replace covers every couple of years. In other words, they know these products aren't suitable for Tahoe conditions and sell them anyway. The cover sold was a residential foam-core model installed at ~7,500' elevation, exposed to high UV, snow load, and daily vacation-rental use. When it failed, the blame was shifted to "heavy use" and sanitizer levels--both completely foreseeable conditions. The problem isn't Tahoe. The problem is selling underspecified products and then disclaiming responsibility when they fail. There are heavy-duty covers available for this market. Mountain Home doesn't offer them. If you own or manage property here, proceed very carefully.
