We manage vacation rentals throughout the Tahoe basin and have significant experience with hot tubs and spa covers in high-altitude environments. Mountain Home Center sold two covers for the same property in Incline Village. Both failed prematurely. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we raised the issue, the company's president responded that "covers don't last long up here," that they sell "hundreds every year," and that owners should expect to replace covers every couple of years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In other words, they know these products aren't suitable for Tahoe conditions and sell them anyway. The cover sold was a residential foam-core model installed at ~7,500' elevation, exposed to high UV, snow load, and daily vacation-rental use. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When it failed, the blame was shifted to "heavy use" and sanitizer levels--both completely foreseeable conditions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The problem isn't Tahoe. The problem is selling underspecified products and then disclaiming responsibility when they fail. There are heavy-duty covers available for this market. Mountain Home doesn't offer them. If you own or manage property here, proceed very carefully. read more

Nothing but good things to say! They have a solid selection of stove/fireplaces, hot tubs, patio furniture and home decor. So much great and interesting items. We ordered a fireplace with installation and they provided a great list of plumbers and contractors for us to use for the gas line hook up. From start to finish they were professional. Are they expensive? Yes. It's a luxury mountain town, I get it. As I mentioned, I could browse their furnishings forever, they have so many great decor items from leather chairs, art, wind chimes and everything in between. I did notice that some prices are marked up, for example the hot tub cleaners and such. (Almost by double vs Amazon). Overall, a wonderful spot for your mountain home needs and gifts. If you are looking for a new fireplace/stove, I do not hesitate to recommend them. read more

We asked MHC to take a look at our gas fireplace with a pilot light issue. The unit is 20 years old and may not have been installed by them, but they are the closest Heat N Glo dealer. We've done the preliminary diagnosis and have it narrowed down to just a couple of common problems. They wanted $250 for the first 30 minutes to diagnose....travel time and stuff. We live two blocks away. After that it would be another $109 minimum to do the fix after they ordered parts. We also had a natural gas stove installed by them a little over a year ago in our ADU. It was installed incorrectly and not to code, which we discovered when the walls were getting excessively hot. They fixed it, moving the stove out farther. But, no apologies, no remorse, no discount on installation. Also, they wanted to keep a credit card on file before scheduling the repair. That is super insecure and against credit card company policy. Always best to assume your customer is trying to rip you off and treat them like a criminal. My experience could not have been better! Start to finish Mountain Home Center has be excellent. They earned my business while I was researching hot tubs and could not get anyone from any hot tub sales place to give me any info over the phone. They all wanted me to come in, or sign up for emails, etc. I was shopping from SF for a hot tub for a mountain cabin and could not get the time of day from anyone. It was very frustrating. I had done a lot of research and had educated questions to ask. I had narrowed down the type of tub I wanted to Hot Springs or Bull Frog. I called Mountain Home Center to see if the delivered to my area. I didnt expect anyone would be willing to spend time talking but I was wrong. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sales person Andrew was so helpful and took time to explain many things to me about hot tubs in general and issues in cold areas, Hot Springs construction, and how the salt system worked[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. He then sent me even more information. Based on his top of the line service I decided I really wanted to give him my business. Upon further investigation and narrowing down what I wanted AND then the price he was offering me on the tub I wanted, I was really sure about Mountain Home Center and a Hot Springs tub. The mid level Hot Springs Tubs are bigger and better in my opinion, unless you want to spend the same amount of money for an awkward 1-2 person Bull Fog ( great if its one person who wants to tub in a reclined position). We got the BEAM which seats 4 easily and could seat 5- 6 in a pinch. The jets are strong and you can close ones you are not using to make the ones you are using even stronger. We could not be happier with this tub. We made the purchase ahead of time to get a sale price which Andrew coordinated for us. We had several months before our remodel was going to be ready for it. We got an excellent deal. Delivery experience and follow up also get 5 stars! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Prior to delivery Andrew explained basically how they would get the tub into place and asked me to send photos of the site and access.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That I did and then he scheduled Sam Marsh to come out and check the site in person. Mind you we are well over an hour away from Truckee in Quincy area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also ALL communication on the timing of this visit, the delivery and the follow up visit was perfect. They checked before hand to confirm it was still good for us, they stuck to their schedule and even called day of to give us heads up when an 30-40 minutes away[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. When we had the site ready with the concrete pad poured etc, I let Andrew know and the delivery was scheduled. The guys did a super job of smoothly placing the tub and then gave us a lesson on the basics we needed to know in order to start using the tub. They were great! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sales team communicates with the delivery team.. yeah the left hand knows what the right hand is doing![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] ( In our remodel this was not a common experience, we really appreciated the ease of working with them) [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were still not able to fill and use our tub for another several weeks , but they delivery team told me to call and set up a second visit with Sam for after we had a few weeks of using it under our belt. This was perfect as we were somewhat familiar with the tub and did have questions by the time he arrived[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Sam is great; pleasant, fun, and knowledgeable. So to sum things up the tub is fantastic! Our power was off 2 days in a row and the temp did not even drop. So well insulated. One of the things Andrew educated me on was the cost of running the tub, which is very low compared to cheaper tubs because of how well they retain heat. Whether it's providing advice on water maintenance or service calls for our Hot Springs tub, they are always thorough, courteous, informative and fair. Max did a house call for us this month and was absolutely fantastic. We'd requested the service, but managed to solve the problem before he came to the house. He nonetheless did a full inspection of the issue and spent time to explain everything in detail for me. Then, Mountain Home didn't charge us for the house call because we'd gotten our wires crossed with them about cancelling the service. Do not shop here! They do not back their products, don't install items properly & when they do mess up, they won't take responsibility! We bought a spa cover and they charged us $1000 for just the cover & install/delivery! They claimed my $500 cover was double the price due to "Covid supply shortages". They delivered & installed the cover on my old spa lift mechanism in 4/2022. Mountain Home Center's installers did not secure my old lift to the new spa cover in 2 areas and as a result, my lift broke and destroyed my new spa cover in the process all in less than a year. The spa paneling had almost ripped off as well! Our spa cover was bending all the way backward & leaning up against the stairs! Our property management company had other rentals that had the same cover & lift and the brackets were secured to the cover in every instance, but not in ours. We got two contractors who said the brackets were supposed to be secured to the cover. I even called the manufacturer who confirmed that it should have been secured! Also, my same old lift that they used on my new cover WAS secured to my old cover, but not to my new cover. When I called Mountain Home Center, they sent the owner/manager, Sam, out to take a look. He insisted that the lift and cover were installed properly without any explanation and that our "renters" must have broken the lift because they found 2 caps on the ground (had nothing to do with the cover & lift at all). We sent him videos and multiple photos showing that the brackets are supposed to be secured to the cover, but he repeatedly refused to explain why he felt the lift was secured properly despite the overwhelming evidence otherwise. He wouldn't meet us or our contractors at my house to explain his position. Look at the photos I attached & decide for yourself whether or not they should be secured. Why would the manufacturer let those brackets hang loose? Metal bars shouldn't be poking up if they are not secured to the cover - it is a hazard. This is very disappointing as we had purchased many items in the past from them and had spent a lot of money in their store. It is very upsetting that they do not value customers and were willing to lose us over $950 when even the manufacturer told them they didn't install the lift mechanism properly. read more

We acquired our Hot Springs spa from Tahoe Mountain Home Center. They installed it and instructed us on how to use it. They carry all the supplies you need right there or you can get them online. They also provide monthly service if that's what you need. It's not cheap, but it does give you security. I chose not to use their monthly service and rather pay them per visit if I need anything. Recently, the spa indicated that it needed some service. James D from MHC came out, determined that all it needed was the salt cartridge to be seated properly and adjusted it so that it was. He told me there would be no charge. This is the kind of great service that everyone should emulate. I'm a good customer of theirs, I expected to pay something, but they were generous enough to make the small adjustment and call it good. We called (left a message, it was after or before hours) and said we needed help getting our pilot back on one of our gas stoves ... and WoW, we got a call back before they were even open (7A!) and Ethan was at our house at 10:15 (time a slot was for 10-2)!!! I have lived in Truckee 43 winters and this one, my hot tub quit. Sam was able to fit me in quickly and also gave me some additional "emergency" ideas so the freezing temperatures would not be more of a problem. Technician James came out and was professional, pleasant and efficient. I purchased my hot tub from Mountain Home Center close to 20 years ago and they keep it running smoothly. I also rely on them for wood stove support, after my purchase of a new one 10 years ago. We bought a hot tub at MHC about 18 months ago. I was surprised by how much it cost, but I did a bunch of research and their price was right in line with what I found. The installation was sooner than they estimated, and we have loved it since. Last week, the water was 2' low. I stopped by (they told me I could have called), and they got someone over quickly. The heater had died and was leaking. They replaced it same day, and we were in it the next morning (took 12 hours to reheat). Fully covered under the 5-year warranty (paying for quality is worth it). I can't say enough about these guys. Their costs are inline with the quality you are getting, but their service is over the top good. The young man who came out was great, and every single person we've come into contact with there has been truly awesome. Even their sales people are nice, knowledgeable, and on your side. read more

Let me start by saying I have been a customer of Mountain Home Center for more than 25 years. We have purchased two gas stoves and a wood burning stove over the years. Customer service is #1 and that important to me. They show up when they say they will and always do a great job. I have them come out once a year to do maintenance on my stoves. On one occasion they located micro cracks in my gas stove which left unnoticed would be a carbon monoxide problem. Thankfully they caught it in time and we replaced the stove. On 12/17/2020, James D., service tech with Mountain Home Center, responded to our residence on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, for service of our gas fireplace. I had first called about a pilot light issue, as we have only owned our home for 7 of its 40 year life. James, proceeded to disassemble the fireplace slowly and methodically, in a very clean, and organized way. There was no pilot light issue, so, Zero Repair, My better half, then became involved, fascinated, since she had never seen the unit, completely open. She loved, watching how the fine steel wool is bushed out, to creat the appearance of glowing embers, and the pumice solution for cleaning the glass. We recently purchased a home at Northstar and Mountain Home Center came highly recommended to us as the place to go for new Patio Furniture and Spa. Now we know why. Mary and the entire staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Their show room was full of quality furnishings and we found just what we were looking for. They hauled off the old furniture and placed the new perfectly. We had an issue with the Thermocoupler on the fire pit and they dispatched as service tech to address the issue the next day to resolve the issue. The Hot Springs Spa we purchased is beautiful and expertly placed. As a lifetime Pool and Spa owner, I didn't think I had much to learn, but the comprehensive orientation Sam provided was nothing short of amazing. The most knowledgeable and honest person I have ever spoken with on the subject. They even provided a list of contractors and we were able to get the spa wired and running the same day it was delivered. I researched fireplace inserts first going to Fireplace Distributors in Reno then Nevada Heating in Sparks and finally Mountain Home Center in Truckee and boy did it pay to do that leg work. Mountain Home Center not only had the newest and most energy efficient models, very important to me, but they were a lot less expensive than one of the others and only a couple hundred dollars more than the other (the Mountain Home unit was rated 4.9% more efficient which will make up that price difference quickly). They carried some of the same brands as the others but had newer & different models. Great to work with over the phone (Yelena was very pleasant and knowledgeable) & the installers-Jake and D.J. were fast, efficient and did an excellent installation! I would highly recommend taking a look at Mountain Home Center for such a long term, beautiful investment in your home it is well worth the trip. read more
