I went in to get a sink drain jam nut. They said they had two, but they couldn't find them. After looking quite a while, they opened a package with a complete drain kit, took off the jam nut and said "stick this in your pocket, keep it". What GREAT customer service! I was just in the area helping my elderly parents, and the other hardware store is much closer. If I ever need anything again, I will make sure I go out of my way to give them my business. I was on the hunt for a galvanized steel ash pail with a lid. I went to the two big box hardware shops. Nothing. The majority of staff did not even know what is an ash pail. I then went to a newly opened smaller hardware store, they have been open less than 5 days and did not carry that item in the store. Anyway, knowing we really wanted one right away, an associate at the smaller hardware shop told us about Churchill's Hardware in Cameron Park which was about 8 miles east up the highway. Sure enough, Churchill Hardware had galvanized steel ash pails with lids. They were kept outside with the trash can inventory. The price was on par to the big box online price. The shop is a throwback to the days of local, small owned hardware shops. The shop interior is small but mighty in inventory. On the weekday afternoon that I dropped in, the place was busy. Lots of customers, a lot of them were known and greeted by first name from the staff and vice versa. The majority of staff is quite knowledgeable in various home improvement areas. The cashier was a hoot, he was funny and engaging. He was interacting with each customer but not holding up the line. Great personal touch. Tip: since the parking lot has only one entrance and is not very large, it may be quicker and easier to park on the street then wait for cars to exit. read more

Why oh why must I give them even one star in order to post this. This "establishement" is a joke. Employees are rude and clueless. I'm guessing that the only requirements for employment here are a room temperature IQ, MAGA membership, and the ability to alienate every human with which they come in contact. Their prices are beyond ridiculous, or as I'm sure the owner would say, "whatever we can get away with". Given all of that, I would like to offer some advice on how to improve your hardware store. Hire a bulldozer, level the building, and then sell property. You're welcome. read more

This review is not intended to bring down the rating of Churchill hardware in Cameron Park. In general, we have been impressed with this small town hardware store and it's inventory as well as its staff. However, I do want Michael Churchill to know a member of his staff offended me greatly on a trip to Churchill's a couple of weeks ago. What happened was I accompanied my husband on a trip to Churchill's and one of the things we were looking for was ornament hooks so we could put up our Christmas tree. I spotted an important staff member and asked him where the ornament hooks were kept. He walked us to an aisle where we found both silver and green ornament hooks. My husband grabbed a package of the silver and I said "I guess the green is so it blends in with the Christmas tree maybe we should get these." This staff member used this as an opportunity to try to be funny, but basically just portrayed me as a domineering bitch. He snapped to attention and said to my husband " oh just say yes dear it's much easier". he then proceeded to go on and on about this , even SALUTING a number of times in the next five minutes, all the while telling my husband to just say "yes, dear". Needless to say, I was incredibly offended, both for myself and for all women . His behavior and words were beyond unacceptable in this situation and extremely disrespectful. Just thought you should know Michael, about this misogynistic display of incredibly bad judgment. read more

Seems to be a nice local hardware store as far as inventory as far as customer service they suck !! The young people who work there are rude not helpful. Worst of all not a one of them are practicing social distancing NO FACE COVERINGS. The staff was letting people walk around without masks on including themselves. I am out of a job for the second time in this pandemic because people can't wear a mask. I am trying to support small businesses but it's hard when they're being ignorant and not following health safety guidelines. They're floor markers to stay 6 feet apart are really like 3 feet. I saw 5 people including a female worker not wear her mask even while ringing people up. By them allowing people to not wear a mask, including an employee, they're telling everybody else in that store that they don't care about anyone else's health and safety. I'm dropping my review by one star purely because it's true what the other reviewers are saying. I picked up my final lot of pellets, and several employees were unmasked which prompted customers to not wear masks. I am fully vaccinated, but I could still carry home to my 89 year old mother the virus that can settle in your nasal cavity from non-mask wearers. I love this store - it's an easy fix. I thought I needed a light switch to replace one that had failed so I went to Churchill's to purchase same. While I was there I was approached by one of the employees who took the time to look at the defective switch and he was able to repair the switch for me, meaning I didn't need to purchase another switch. He also assisted me to make sure I knew how to reinstall the switch. This experience just confirmed that my decision to make Churchill Hardware my go-to hardware store was the correct one!! read more

This store is truly a community store. The employees are all local and care about customer service. Every time I walk in someone asks me if they can help. They take time to explain different options for the project you may be working on and seem genuinely interesting in helping. Jon, I believe he is the owner, is always helpful too. Their small engine repair is great, good prices too. They are busy because of this but when I got my lawnmower back after it hadn't been used for years, not only did the service it, they out in high quality fuel (the one that doesn't separate over time with water on the top), new oil, sharpened the blade, wiped down the machine, put a new spark plug on and all for a great price. I hadn't changed a faucet stem before. I could have spent a few hours trying to trap an orange-jacketed person at Home Depot, who would probably be working in a different department and have no knowledge of faucet stems. Instead, I called Churchill's Hardware. A guy named Jeff answered the phone and told me to bring in the old stem. He took me back to where there were a ridiculous array of faucet stems, and spent a long time figuring out which one was right for me. I installed the stem and have a happy wife. Surprisingly, Jeff isn't the only expert at Churchill's. I haven't had a hardware problem they haven't solved. read more

I have three wine barrels with plants and for over 30 years, the wine barrels started to fall apart. So, I ordered replacements from Churchill's Hardware including six potting soil bags. The owner Michael was very professional and responsive. They delivered everything for a low rate. I was surprised that the prices at this neighborhood Hardware store were very reasonable. My wife and I were looking desperately for a solution to fix a broken leg on a used baby changing table we bought for our son and daughter-in-law. We were searching the hardware section trying to find the right parts for our fix. At the height of our frustration came Jon. Jon enthusiastically and quickly solved our problem. He even offered to complete the task himself. Of course, I took him up in his offer. An hour later I brought my broken table to Jon and he cheerfully repaired the broken leg. No big box store would ever provide that kind of customer service. Every employee I have ever met at Churchill Hardware has been courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. So this happened last year, but still relevant. Our outdoor water spigot broke, causing us to have to turn off water to the house. We had a huge event to attend that evening and i had maybe an hour to fix our copper pipe. I had never sweat a pipe before and had no clue what I was doing. Jon found me walking around his store looking like a dummy. He found everything i needed and then said, "alright where's your place?" He came to my house! Jon helped fix my pipe and gave me a base knowledge for sweating pipe. I will ALWAYS go to Churchill's before anywhere else. read more

Went in today to get a small flat head screwdriver. The tip of the one I had was slightly deformed. JWL(from the receipt) located one I thought would work. Unsolicited, he offered to take my deformed screwdriver to the basement and grind it down a bit. I still bought the other screwdriver just to possibly save a trip. The screwdriver JWL fixed did the job. It's rare to find customer service like that in today's world. read more

I recently used Churchill's to repair my mower that refused to start (not purchased at Churchill's). Not only did they get it to start in the first pull, they went the extra mile to help my wife get it home. I was stuck down the hill at work with the truck and she dropped by to pick it up in her SUV. A helpful staff member (Jon I believe) offered to drop it off at our house in his truck instead of letting my wife and sons struggle to get it in the car. Signs on the front door reminding customers to distance and wear masks - great. Inside the store however the owner's mask was on his chin, two others stocking shelves and walking side by side had no masks at all. When checking out, the owner's son walked up to the register with no mask. I asked why? Response, "my mask is in my office and some of our customers don't wear masks anyway. Genius!! Churchill's Hardware has been our go-to hardware store since we moved to Cameron Park 16 years ago. Our first trip there was to get a 10 foot ladder to hang a big clock in our entryway. I stopped in with my sister, found a ladder, and asked if delivery was available and what day it might be delivered. The person at the register asked where we lived, called to a clerk in the store and asked him to follow us home with the ladder! He even carried it into the garage for us. Needless to say, we were impressed. Since that day we've been there numerous times with questions about what we needed to wire various items in the house, convert fluorescent fixtures to LED, tools to loosen a faucet, how to repair various parts of a timer and drip system, etc. Most recently it was advice and tools needed to remove a riveted shade bracket from a French door without breaking anything. Jon not only told me the tools and hardware needed, but showed me how to use them on a piece of scrap metal. Churchill's is like the old fashioned neighborhood hardware store many of us remember growing up with. You don't often find gems like this in today's world of big box, impersonal stores. We're lucky to have them in Cameron Park. read more
