Actually was quite pleasantly surprised that we liked the Venezuelan food. The lady at the counter was friendly and helpful. Lots of plant based options. Beans were well cooked and flavored. So was the rice. The bananas/ plantains added good sweet flavor to the whole meal. The coconut cheese was interesting. Never had that before but it did taste like cheese and added flavor. The jackfruit arepa sandwich that we had, could have had the jackfruit, cheese, plantains mixed together better. The jackfruit bowl was better as it was easier to mix everything and get all the flavors together. Pretty much same as the sandwich but a little more and easier to mix (so would recommend the bowl over the sandwich). The sandwich seemed to be made of rice. We also had a mango and a coconut slushie drink. The mango tasted like the mango concentrate from Costco (sugary) and the coconut was a little more original/ different. We liked both though. Limited indoor seating. Outdoor seating available. Steady flow of patrons. The only thing I didn't like was that the price was a bit high though in my opinion but I guess everything in Maui is that high priced. Update: went back and got a coconut slushie drink again :) and tried the plant based mushroom and cheese (coconut cheese) and fish empanada. They were delicious with the mushroom being our favorite. The chipotle sauces and cilantro onion sauces were delicious as well! The empanadas are not made to order (they are premade so you cannot seperate out the cheese from the mushroom but it does not have a strong flavor). I also liked the coconut slushie by itself vs mixed with mango. Note: The empanadas come in 2: when you eat in house, a red Chipotle sauce and white cilantro onion sauce are given with it (as well as with the arepas); there is another sauce for vegans (think it's a cilantro/ oil/ spice sauce). We liked the white sauce better than the vegan sauce. The empanadas are not made to order (they are premade). If you order to go, you are only given once sauce. If you want more than one, you need to just add it on before you leave with the big dispensers. Otherwise, you only get one sauce (not sure why you can't just add white and red sauce in the same to go container but we weren't given the option). And, to make things worse, the lady said curtly she would charge me next time for 2 sauces "due to the plastic". well, thank you for not charging me but the statement was unnecessary IMHO. Note for improvement (and for this, I was tempted to drop the star rating): we came here multiple times and gave your business a lot of our dollars (about 135.00), yet the above statement, I don't think was necessary if you are trying to provide good customer service. You should gladly offer extra of the sauce or even, as I suggested above, allow customers to add the sauce themselves if they want more than 1 sauce and you don't want us to "use up your plastic containers". Kind of left a bad taste in our mouths.
On this block of restaurants, Miss Arepa definitely gives a different flavor from the traditional local food you'll find on the islands. I ordered the carne asada arepa. I had my doubts on the portions at first but it's enough to leave you satisfied especially if you order a side. The overall quality of the meat was solid, but what glued the dish together was the sauces. You get a garlic aioli and a chipotle sauce to dispense at your own leisure. Overall 4.3/5 would come back for a change of pace!
Amazing food (arepa and bowls, yucca fries, and matcha latte) and super friendly service with a smile! There's a/c in the restaurant but it doesn't reach the window corner seating, so mind where you sit if you want to stay cool in the afternoon. Vegan alternatives are a great option to have for those who need it. Also breakfast is quite nice too! Eggs and ham arepa with the delicious sauces. Don't miss out of trying Miss Arepa!
Was some of the best food we had on the island. Definitely recommend this place and the two bottle of sauces they give you are delicious. We got the plantains and the asada bowl with yucca. Also two empanadas.
Venezuelan food in Maui? Yes, and it's wonderful! I've had lunch here twice so far and if I'm lucky will fit in one more before this vacation ends. Lots of delicious options for arepas including vegetarian and plan based. So far I've had the Domino (black beans and queso fresco) and shrimp in spicy tomato chipotle sauce. Both were excellent. I also enjoyed the yucca fries which are particularly good with their garlic cilantro sauce. And my hibiscus iced tea was both pretty and refreshing. The counter staff are friendly and food comes out pretty fast given the small kitchen. There are several tables and a counter indoors and a few more tables on the sidewalk. Not fancy, but comfortable.
Wow, only one word can describe this place. 5 stars all around 1. Prices and portions - 5 stars: considering the outrages prices I've seen at the supermarkets, this place has very decent prices for their food. Their portions are enough to fill you you for sure. 2. Flavor - 5 stars: tried the steak, shredded beef and shredded chicken bowls. The seasoning was perfect, not salty just perfect. The beans and rice so delicious. The chimichurri was one of the best I've had. The fried yucca was fried to perfection 3. Facility and location - 5 stars: very clean, very presentable. Even though its a whole in the wall, the place is very nice. Staff is very friendly Only one complaint. They use foil when they serve the food in the bowls. Not a big fan. Foil isn't healthy. I get they are trying to avoid the juice of the meat to filter through the container, but there has to be a better way. Hope management or owner reads this. Would I come back again? is the big question.....absolutely yes! Give them a try, i hope that you are satisfied the same way I was Good job you guys! Keep it up
AWESOME!!! We arrived at Miss Arepa, a cute Venezuelan establishment in a strip mall on Lower Honoapiilani Road, past Kaanapali, around 9:30 a.m. We drove thru a rainstorm from Makawao to try their food. Unfortunately, lunch didn't start until 11 a.m. So me and my significant other sat outside deciding what to do for 1-1/2 hours... The waitress came out and told us the cook said they could make our order if we'd wait a little longer! How thoughtful!!! The food was ready in less than 15 minutes, piping hot, and we paid and were on our way back to Makawao thru the pouring rain by 10:30 a.m.! AMAZING!!! What great customer service, amazing food, and a wonderful day, despite the rainstorm! Definitely worth the drive and effort finding Miss Arepa! Woo hoo!
Very delicious! Small and quaint place with seating inside and outside. Counter order. The Kahlúa pork with pineapple salsa was amazing. So were the empanadas. Yucca fries were hot and fresh. We also got the sugarcane lemonade, which was delicious. Would come back again to try other options.
PABELLON AREPA is a must. For $14 the PORTION:QUALITY:PRICE ratio is amazing. SERVICE is the best I have seen on the island. I know poke is usually a must when in Hawaii but this spot needs to be on your list! Very versatile accommodating with quick service. So AUTHENTIC I wish they had one in LA! Probably be back tomorrow to try another meat option because they just have so many.
Frequent visitor to Maui, first time visit to Miss Arepa. I don't know why on earth we waited so long. I am not an adventurous eater, but wanted something other than Hawaiian food so we went to Miss Arepa's for dinner tonight. We ordered pabellon (shredded beef) and camarones (shrimp) arepas and two empanadas (beef and fish). Craving something sweet to end the meal, I got a conserva de coco (coconut candy ball made with pineapple, cinnamon and panela). Everything was delicious, perfectly spiced and freshly prepared. The shrimps were big and plentiful. I ordered it with the chipotle sauce which gave it a kick of heat. They also bring out two other sauces: a green one (maybe cilantro?) and a red one (no clue). Both were delicious. The empanadas were hot and definitely hadn't been sitting under a heat lamp before being served. The conserva de coco was a nice way to end the meal - small and sweet, but not overly so. Staff was personable, helpful and genuinely nice. Loved their vibe. Highly recommend!!
This is the best food we have had in Maui so far! We came 2 days in a row now because of how good their arepas are. I got the hawaiana and my boyfriend got the poblano and the beef one. All of them have been delicious and filling and a good price. Their service is also great and the restaurant is very clean.
On our first night in Maui, we were looking for some highly rated local spots and decided to try Miss Arepa. We had heard a lot about their famous arepas, but after reading a few reviews mentioning that they can get very stuffed and messy, we decided to try their bowls instead. I ordered the bowl with chipotle chicken, and my husband ordered the same bowl but added hongos (garlic mushrooms) as extra protein on the side. We also got their coconut mango slushie to go with it. The place itself is small but really cute, with a few tables both inside and outside. It has a casual, laid-back island vibe, and the staff were very courteous and welcoming. The food came out hot and fresh, and at first glance the portion looked a little small. But once you start mixing everything together, you realize it's actually quite filling and well-balanced. The bowls were packed with layers of flavor and ingredients. They also gave us two sauces--a creamy green sauce and a spicy red/orange sauce. Both were fantastic and really elevated the dish. The chipotle chicken was especially good--juicy, flavorful, and nicely spicy. The coconut mango slushie was honestly a perfect match for the meal. It was refreshing, tropical, and exactly what you want in the Maui weather. Overall, it was a great first meal on the island. Delicious food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere. If you're in Maui and looking for something casual but flavorful, Miss Arepa is definitely worth a visit.
As a Venezuelan visiting Maui i can say Miss Arepa was such an exciting find. It was delicious and heart warming food, the place is cute and small and a close drive from the resorts in Lahaina, def recommend a visit

This was by far the best arepa I have ever had in my entire life, and I'm no stranger to them. The first bite of the queso fresco arepa would have been jaw-dropping if I wasn't literally eating, and I'm not over exaggerating. We stopped here to get a quick bite, and I wish we would have planned to eat more because everything we had was incredibly flavorful and delicious. This may have been one of the best things I've ever eaten, period. On top of the food being incredible, this spot has cute, laid back vibes and getting our food was pretty quick. We only had to wait as long as it took to make things hot and fresh. Plus, everything on the menu is gluten free by way of the ingredients, which is a benefit for some folks. All in all, highly highly highly recommend coming in for arepas! read more

So different and so delicious!!! I loved that there was so many protein options, including plant based. Seafood is always good in Maui so I went with fish empanadas and camarones arepas. More than enough for one person../probably a little too much for one person :) The inside has pretty limited seating and there is some outdoor seating, but also limited- so you may want to consider ordering to go. The parking lot is also pretty tight since the entire back row is reserved for employees read more

I found this when searching best food in Maui so we decided to give it a try. Just as other reviews have said, it is a refreshing change of pace from tacos and fish dishes on the island. We ordered the Pabellon and wanted the Reina Pepiada but that one was out so we did La Mexicana instead. The food came out pretty quickly and very hot. The arepas are very juicy and more of a fork situation than what we thought it would be. It was actually hard to eat all together and the masa bread encasing was not my favorite alone so I used it as a chip and it was a bit better. The fillings and sauces they give you to add were both fantastic. The beef and chicken were well seasoned and full of flavor. The cilantro sauce was so creamy and flavorful; and the chipotle was a nice deep heat that was really punchy with flavor. Definitely filling and a decent price point. Overall, great service, good food, and nice change of pace. read more

I give this restaurant a solid 5 stars! We came here two days in a row because it was that good. My kids loved the empanadas--they tried the shredded beef and cheese, and both were delicious. My husband and I had the carne asada arepa on our first visit, and today I tried the Pabellón Arepa with shredded beef, black beans, sweet plantains, and cheese. They also offer a house-made chimichurri that takes the flavor to another level. Let me just say--this place puts love into every dish they make. The portions are generous, the prices are very reasonable, and every visit was met with warm, friendly customer service. To finish our meal, my daughter and I shared the coconut and mango slushies, which are made with natural ingredients and were incredibly refreshing. As someone who is Hispanic and pretty picky when it comes to authentic Latin food, I can honestly say this exceeded my expectations. The food is authentic, fresh, and full of flavor. The restaurant also has a charming atmosphere with Venezuelan memorabilia that gives it a warm, welcoming vibe. If you're looking for high-quality Latin food made with care, do yourself a favor and stop by. You won't be disappointed! We will def be back at our next trip - didn't get to try the arepa with chicken, avocado and green salsa. Mahalo Miss Arepa! read more
Nice surprise! Stumbled on this Venezuelan restaurant at the opposite side of The Fish Market, waiting for the market to open. I snapped pictures of the menu and convinced the family to give it a try last night. Good decision! It also helped to see 4.8 Yelp rating. I enjoyed my beef Pabellon and the yucca fries we shared. Daughters had the carne asada and Reina Pepiada. They fought a little over the pepiada, which turned out to be both their favorites. Husband liked his Camarones. We will be back! read more
Florentina is amazing. Her joyful attitude is infectious!! Thank you for such a pleasant dining experience :) This was my first time trying an arepa and I really liked it. I ordered the Camarones (shrimp sautéed in garlic with tomato and bell pepper, with the chipotle sauce on the side) the pieces of shrimp were HUGE and the arepa was filled to the top with them. I loved that. Sometimes in the states, I find that some restaurants skimp on the filling - but not here!! The garlic/tomato/bell pepper sauce was really good as well. Warning, it does get a bit messy w the garlic oil. But definitely worth it I also ordered the yuca fries and they were amazing as well. Super crispy outside, creamy on the inside - EXACTLY like how it's described on the menu There are seats to sit inside and out. My food came out super quick. They also offer free ice cold water, which I think is a super nice touch considering it is a beach side restaurant and people are probably dying from the heat read more

Great restaurant option if you want something different from all of the (also fantastic) Hawaiian food on the island. Miss Arepa is a Venezuelan restaurant specializing in arepas. They had a variety of arepas, from plant based options to meat options. The employee that recommended one arepa per person so we got the carne asada and la sifrina arepa. Portions are generous and they load the arepas up with all of the fillings. I asked for the employee's recommendation for a side and she recommended the tajadas (sweet fried plantains). Everything came out fresh and and food was very hot. We absolutely loved the arepas and the tajadas were a nice side that we were glad to try, albeit a bit oily that made it hard to finish. Again, we loved that everything came out really fresh, packed with flavor, and would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the Lahaina area. Parking lot is a bit small and shared with several other establishments. There is indoor seating as well as a few tables outside. When we arrived for lunch, all outdoor tables were taken and the inside area was packed with both customers dining in and customers trying to order. read more
The owner was very friendly and expressive, she chatted with us brurefly and took our order right away. We ordered Hawaiian & pabellon arepas, Yuka fries and hibiscus tea with no sugar. Everything tasted good, I especially like the Yuka fries and the pabellon arepa. The Yuka fries was serving pipping hot and it was so good with the creamy sauce, while the roasted beef, cheese and Pantene combo in the arepa tasted delicious. I personally find the salsa in the Hawaiian arepa a bit soggy, and wish my hibiscus tea has added sugar in it. But my husband likes it with no sugar so that's that! Overall, Miss Arepa is a very charming shop with delicious Venezuela food. We would recommend it if you want to try something different. read more
Food: 5 - Had the Arepa Carne Asada. Wow! I hate to say this, but it's my first time eating Venezuela food, I'll be on the look out for more, Flavors are on point! Their garlic and chipotle sauce they give you on the side, I can eat that on everything. First time having Yuca fries, I've been missing out! Way better than regular potatoes. Next time I come here, this is my first stop. The restaurant is super cute clean and they play their countries music, I love it. The ladies that work there all really friendly and sweet. read more

Sooo delicious! We came for breakfast and had their ham and cheese arepa and the tuna salad arepa. The standout was the two sauces that were served with the arepas. My favorite was the spicy chipotle sauce--I added some sauce to every bite. The arepas were hot and an amazing texture. read more

We came by Miss Arepa while we are on vacation. It's located a small plaza with ample parking in the lot. We went on a Saturday late afternoon and it wasn't busy. Cute decor and atmosphere with indoor seating. I got the Pabellon ($14)- black beans, queso fresco, shredded beef, and sweet plantain. It was loaded! The garlic sauce came on the side. It was super delicious and filling. The shredded beef was tender and flavorful and the other ingredients complemented each other well. I also got the Frozen Mango Cocado drink and it was so refreshing! Highly recommend! read more
This is a local spot known for its arepas and empanadas. It was busy and rightfully so because the food was phenomenal. I got the chicken empanadas. They were tasty - delicious and crispy- packed with well seasoned chicken, we also had arepas, yucca fries ( cooked to crispy perfection) and the dessert Mandocas (this was a bit plantain based for my liking but my dad gobbled them right up). The fries and the empanadas with the cream sauce were my favorite- delightful! People here were nice there was parking out front . The restaurant itself is pretty small with limited seating but they did have tables and chairs outside. read more

Absolutely delicious! Loved the plantain "shell/tortilla" for the patacon sandwich. Flavors were all on point. The cheese pulled out, which was a bummer, but it was all still super yummy. My friend also loved the kalua pig arepa. We called in an order ahead of time, and some friends picked it up. Everything was packaged nicely and ready to go. I haven't been in the store itself, but I would happily get food from here again! read more
Stop by this place in Maui near our hotel, it was a very cute restaurant with some high tables and you can also order to go. It is a part of a shopping strip, and there is plenty of parking. We were greeted with a smile and the restaurant worker was very kind. They have a breakfast menu so tuna, Arepa and the breakfast sandwich Arepa. My personal favorite was the breakfast arepa with the green sauce. It was filling and also delicious. read more
The inside is super cute and I love the colors. The parking lot was a little difficult to navigate and I imagine it can get packed during a lunch rush. The service was very friendly and quick. We tried two arepas and both were delicious. They were huge! It was a lot of food; definitely could have shared one. read more

Miss Arepa is an easy 5 stars - it was one of the cheapest dinners we had in Maui, but one of the most satisfying. We got there in the last hour before closing and it was still full of people, most seemed like locals. You order at the counter and then find a table to sit at. We ordered the shrimp bowl that came with rice, beans, and plantains and did 3 mini arepas with beef and cheese fillings. We also got a side of tostones and salad. Everything tasted so fresh and was well seasoned. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and had a great snap to them. The arepas were sooo good too, crunchy on the outside and able to hold up to a lot of fillings. The side of tostones was a bigger portion than we expected, and we were happy to get to take some home. They reheated really well the next day on a frying pan. The salad was fresh and had a nice refreshing dressing to go with it. We drenched everything in their red and green sauces, these are mandatory for the meal! Service was great, the girl at the counter was so friendly. I wish to be back soon! read more

I saw this place on Yelp and it attracted me because it's 100% gluten free. My husband is gluten free and it's always a struggle finding spots for him to eat at. While we are here on vacation, we will be coming back another time for sure. Yesterday we stopped by and ordered carne asada arepas with yuca fries on the side and hibiscus tea for our drink. Let me just say, this meal HIT the spot! The arepa was delicious! The meat was tender and they give a lot for the price! The combo of meat with mozzarella and tomato is just top tier! The yuca fries were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The hibiscus tea was perfectly tart and unsweetened. Will literally come back to either order the same thing or try something new! I'm sure everything here is 10/10! Miss Arepa's is the best even if you're not gluten free!! The service was wonderful and the workers were very sweet. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

If i could give this place a 100/5 i would!! Came here our first night and were back the next day! The drinks are delicious and so refreshing and as a celiac their 100% gluten free menu wins them even more points! Highly recommend the patacon sandwich and carne asada bowl! And oooo the sauces that the food is served with seriously bring it to a whole nother level! If you are even so much as pondering coming here GO!! I wish we lived closer because we would be coming here breakfast lunch and dinner! read more
First, a shout out to the Yelp community for coming through with some spot on rec's for Miss Arepa. Having been coming to Maui for years, my wife and I love to find small places that are away from the heart of the touristy areas. Some such places still slip into the category of "overrated and underwhelming". Not Miss Arepa's!!! A true gem nestled into the same strip center as another of our favorites - Fish Market Maui - Miss Arepa's is a small shop serving up, to steal the descriptor from another review, true flavor bombs! On this most recent trip, my wife and I were looking for a non-seafood option as we had been gorging ourselves on the outstanding Hawaiian seafood over the previous 5 days. Arepas sounded good, and it has been quite some time since we had had those back on the mainland. We trusted in Yelp and made the drive over to Miss Arepa's. From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for a treat. The woman working the front of the shop was so amazingly pleasant she set the tone for the meal. She cheerfully helped my wife navigate the menu to find an option that did not have garlic (food sensitivity). And she was quick to mention that the shrimp, in general, was a great choice We settled on the shrimp with tomatos and bell pepper salsa for my wife, and, I caved and opted for the garlic shrimp (after receiving special dispensation from my wife, of course). And then, to share we added one Hawaiiana (Kalua pork and pineapple salsa) We grabbed a table outside to enjoy the cool midday temperatures and in very short order our three arepas were brought to us - along with two sauces (a chipotle spicy aioli and a garlic aioli). The arepas were visually stunning and after a brief moment admiring the presentation we hungrily dove in. OMG. That's it. That is really the review. The depth of flavor in each bite was simply amazing. The shrimp - fresh, perfectly cooked. Flavorful. The sauces. Bursting with flavors. Not too heavy on the spice. Balanced and paired so well with the rest of the dish The arepas. Hot! Very hot! Fresh! Very fresh! Crispy outside. Tender inside. Delicious And the kahlua pork. We've had kahlua pork in dozens of dishes in dozen of restaurant across the islands and none, and I mean none, matched this. Smoky tender morsels of pure gastronomical delight. The only downside to this experience. We leave tomorrow and won't have time to return to try all the other items on the menu. Tried the pabellon arepa and it was delicious and HUGE! I couldn't even finish the filling inside after scooping some out after a long day of work. All the sauces and aioli's available too are delicious. I loved both the cilantro lime and chili ones. The food came out quickly and the service was so kind. The mixed coconut and mango slushy is delicious especially during a hot day. There is seating inside and outside, not great for large groups though. Cute decor! read more

Definitely a strong option! We ordered two pabellon bowls, chicken and steak, and both were actually fabulous. The steak wasn't overly chewy or all fat; it was juicy and flavorful. The chicken was also well seasoned and moist. The rice was a little bland for our taste, but they offered a mayo-heavy yet fresh-made cilantro sauce, chipotle sauce, and fresh-made chimichurri sauce. I also wish they gave thicker plantain pieces, but the taste was great. It is counter service, but the register staff were very nice. They let me sub beans for salad. They have a water station with ice water which was kept refilled and clean. Outdoor seating is nice but limited. Overall, we loved this place and will be back again. read more
They have VERY generous portions especially for the box size! It was so filling I could not finish it myself. The yuka fries have such a perfect crispy texture and I appreciate the salty flavor. This is my first arepa and I am a big fan! I could see why they have so many returning customers! Perfect for a quick lunch on the go! Everyone is so friendly and kind! They greeted and helped me out with such a genuine kindness. Service took only about 10 min in and out. The restaurant is spotless and clean with lots of casual seating. read more
