Can't believe no pics were taken. That's how you know food and company were both incredible! Finally tried their pizza and it did not disappoint. Had the veggie pizza and it was simple yet flavorful. We had 2 separate pickups, one for my brother and one for his in laws, 4 pizzas in total. I think all together we had vegetarian, pineapple/pepperoni, Hawaiian and vegetarian plus pepperoni. Everyone from the kids to grandpa enjoyed the pizza and dare I say it might even be better as cold leftovers? Crust isn't heavy so it's easy to want to grab another slice. They also got cookies and they too were delicious. I think they had milk & white chocolate chips as well as macadamia nuts. Another great meal and experience from start to finish. Is it good? Yes. Is it "stand-in-line-forever" good? Not for me. I'm just past the stage of chasing hype, but based on the crowds wrapping around the corner, I'm clearly in the minority. The cinnamon rolls, though, are the real deal: soft, gooey, draped in glaze and yet somehow isn't overyly sweet, and when they're warm they just melt in your mouth. They're basically a hug in pastry form and go perfectly with a hot cup of coffee. I really wanted to like it, but it just wasn't for me. Waited 3.5 hours on a Tuesday morning (from 6:30am-10am, their croissants were sold out so we bought 4 of the cinnamon rolls & a box of cookies. The cookies are delicious, I love that they put pistachios in it & it's not overly sweet, they were my favorite. The cinnamon rolls unfortunately fell short for me. If you don't feel like reading my whole review, here's the short version... the hype is real and worth the trip! My wife's sister, who just moved away from Hawaii told us about this place. She told us we had to come here. She made sure to mention to carve out a couple hours of the day, because we'll be waiting in line. As you can see pictures from other people's reviews, that's definitely the case. We took an Uber over there, and as soon as we got in the car and the driver mentioned the address he said, are y'all ready to wait?!?! I think we got there around 10 AM and the line was already long! We knew we would have to be very patient this day. Luckily it wasn't super hot outside so that helped with the waiting process. They did have someone come around and offer coffee and water to purchase while we waited in line. I thought that was pretty smart under the circumstances that everyone has to deal with while waiting here. After probably a 2 hour wait... we finally got in! They have other options of things to eat. Scones, croissants and things like that. We were there for the star player... the cinnamon roll! These things are huge! My wife and I said since we waited so long, we might as well get two and enjoy one of them for later. I never envisioned myself waiting two hours for a cinnamon roll, or any other type of treats, but this was well worth it. We wanted to have one while it was fresh out the oven, so we found a bench to sit at around a bus stop. It was so soft, pretty much melted in your mouth. The icing was tasty. It was so fresh, it's the best cinnamon roll I've ever had in my life. I'm sure spending two hours of your time being in Maui you don't want to sit in line waiting on something like a cinnamon roll, trust me I felt the same way. After doing this, I WILL do it again the next time I'm there! Next time, I would be there first thing in the morning and waiting in line before they open up, that way I'll have time for other activities around the island that I have planned for the day. So! Was it worth it? After 2.5 hours wait, we made it. Come early if you wanna get some cookies or croissants, they ran out quick. They were very nice, before the shop open they walk around offering folks for ordering coffee or water, they also offer umbrella to beat the heat and chairs to sit down. Coffee is a bit pricey but well, you don't wanna lose your spot. We got there at 7:35, got in at 10:20, by then most of the stuff outside the rolls are gone. A special shoutout to Linda, one of the owners, who was incredibly sweet and welcoming. She and her husband are originally from the Bay Area and the 209, which made me happy and proud to see fellow Californians thriving out here in Maui. Thanks to a fellow Yelper, I learned the trick of going later in the morning. I hardly waited five minutes. And I know some people show up long before they open and wait in line for hours. It does look fun to be part of the community waiting together and being on their daily Facebook video. But... I was good with the short wait. And....what a de-licious cinnamon roll. PRO TIPS: - Come early! Doors open 7am but I'd recommend jumping in line at 6:45am at the latest. We came at 7:30am and were here until closer to 10am. - Another option is coming closer to 10/10:30am for less wait time, but it is a gamble because they have sold out before. If you're looking for fresh, delicious humongous cinnamon rolls made daily, this is the spot for you! They make dozens of cinnamon rolls and have a system in place to to keep the line moving. My husband, who is not a huge sweet tooth like me, ended up eating half the cinnamon roll, haha! Would definitely recommend and would come back on our next trip to Maui. read more

The biggest cinnamon rolls!!! We checked Papi's at 10 but there was still quite a line so we got coffee and came back at 11 and the line was much shorter. We luckily snagged a parking spot next to it, but there was only one left. We waited around 10-15 minutes. Everything was sold out except the cinnamon rolls. We got one for $12 and it was huge! Do not let the long wait times you read about deter you from going here! We arrived at 6am, the line at that point was long but manageable. From the time we got in line to the time we were inside and got our Cinnamon Rolls was 3 hours and 10 min. It went fast because you become friends with everyone around you. I heard not one complaint from anyone standing in line. The owners are the sweetest people you will meet. The first bite made the waiting worth it. The Cinnamon Rolls was the best I have ever had. We also tried the pineapple scone which was moist and not too sweet and the Portuguese Sausage Croissant which was so buttery and flaky. I cannot rave enough of this place. I hate to be the bearer of bad news for those who don't like to wait in line, but the line is totally worth it. I honestly did not want to stand around in line for a cinnamon roll, which are not my favorite (so I thought it wouldn't blow my mind) but I'm really glad my boyfriend convinced me to wait. We were in line for ~40 minutes at 9:40 AM on a Monday. There's plenty of coffee places nearby (including Papi's own coffee service) to help pass the time. I can't emphasize enough how fantastic this cinnamon roll was... served right out of the oven, so warm, with an excellent crunch around all the edges but still warm and gooey on the inside. The big question, is it worth the wait? Well, the lines speak for themselves. YES, Papi's is worth it. Even if you wait 3 hours. I heard about this from Yelp's Top 100 list and then from multiple friends that come to Maui often. The line is no joke - waited 45 minutes in the rain. The smell wafting out of the window was heavenly and the rolls themselves once we got to the door were insane! A whole clamshell to go container size. Man I'm bummed to not give 5 stars because I wanted the hype to be worth it but unfortunately for us it wasn't. We came on a Friday morning around 7 am and waited for over 3 hours. Thankfully they didn't sell out of anything, so we were able to get a cinnamon roll and a tropical scone, but did hear of folks waiting for over 4 hours and not being able to get what they wanted which is tough. Maybe it's because I'm an avid baker and have specific tastes when it comes to cinnamon rolls, but this one was not worth 3 hours of waiting in the sun. It was for sure very fluffy and VERY sweet, but there was almost no cinnamon in ours and the frosting didn't have that classic tang you usually get in cinnamon buns. If you told me it was a sweet bread then sure, A+, but for me this didn't hit the mark for "cinnamon roll". I was also very excited for the tropical scone, but when we took it out of the bag it was VERY overbaked and almost charred, and tasted bitter from being so dark. There was only 1 piece of pineapple in the entire scone (which was massive) which I was really sad about. The actual scone was very fluffy too and had good flavor, but it wasn't a tropical scone. Both items had a good base, but needed much more oomph in the filling dept in my opinion. All in all, I'd recommend coming later to avoid the huge initial wait (though you might risk them selling out), but I'm not sure if I'd say this was worth 3 hours of our time. read more

I am a self-proclaimed cinnamon roll addict and this one is worth the wait. Even my health-conscious daughter said that these cinnamon rolls were worth the indulgence. Oh my goodness! This is the best cinnamon roll I have EVER eaten. My only complaint is that I live in Arizona- I want to grab a flight just to come eat here again! Visiting a friend in Lahaina, so at my friends recommendation, our group and I stopped by to grab breakfast before a fun day. We were so excited to eat these fresh, gooey rolls of goodness that I didn't even get a photo before my partner and I dug in. The bakery smells so good- just walking in, you're hit with the scent of fresh pastries and a warm greeting by staff, which was nice! Some members of the group got croissants as well, and I had a bite of the spam, jalapeño, and cheese croissant- super yummy! The pasty itself was buttery and flaky, and there was a very good amount of filling inside the pastry. No skimping on the spam! The cinnamon roll is everything I was looking for, and it's also huge (bigger than my face!). No part of the roll is dry, and the dough is soft. The frosting is indulgent without being heavy, and the cinnamon filling is pleasantly spiced without being overly sweet. Don't get me wrong, though- this cinnamon roll is RICH- in the best way! One thing I will say is that I am not kidding that these are huge- unless you're looking to enter a food coma, these rolls are definitely sharing size. The hype is real - get the cinnamon roll! I'm usually not a big fan of cinnamon roll, but this was love at first bite! The bread base is so fluffy on the inside with a crispy on the outside. I'm certainly not going to dispute their claim that their Cinnamon Rolls are the best in Maui, what I had was excellent. It was a large sweet spiral, mostly soft, perfect color. Once we returned to where we were staying the two rolls we bought were devoured as the compliments flew. Being able to buy these was not so easy. Papi's Ohana is an old building with a small, tight, parking lot and no other obvious parking spots nearby. We ended up just being dropped off and while we stood in line one of us took the car somewhere else and drove back once we had our treats. There was a line, fairly long, but the wait wasn't so bad as we anticipated the prize at the end. We were greeted with an Aloha and a smile when we reached the register to place our order. Everything about the cinnamon roll was so so delicious!!! It is so pillowy soft, gooey icing. EXTRA LARGE!!!!! Serving size is enough for two people I also ordered the sausage and cheese croissant which I was pleasantly surprised about because they use a Portuguese sausage so there's a bite to it. The cheese was also gooey. The croissant itself was super buttery and flaky I was in between the ham&cheese or sausage&cheese croissant and I asked the woman working to decide for me. This was one of our first stops in Maui! We got there at 6:45 am (the jet lag from east coast really helps!) and as expected, there was a huge line already. We got a cinnamon roll and a Portuguese Sausage crossaint. King David Cinnamon Roll: Be warned- this is not a one person job. More like 4. So you'll need a friend or two! And yes, it was the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. The fact that it was warm and toasty made it so much better. Definitely could have used a little less glaze though. Because the roll was hot the glaze melted into little pockets and some bites were just pure sugary glaze. Portuguese Sausage Crossaint: This was our first time having Portuguese sausage and it tastes like a cross between chorizo and Vietnamese lap cheong. The crossaint itself also somehow had some infused salty sausagey flavor in it which was delicious. Throw some scrambled egg in there and it would have been a 10/10 breakfast crossaint. Couldn't taste the cheese. We waited about an hour, which wasn't even as long as those behind us since by the time it was 7:30 am the line was already down the block! Everyone seemed to be in a positive mood while waiting though! There is a parking lot right next to the shop, but I probably wouldn't even bother if you're planning on coming early when everyone else is. We rushed over here after watching the sunrise on Haleakalā. Unfortunately they had special hours this Tuesday and they were closed so I couldn't try what they say are the best cinnamon rolls ever. Okay. Hands down, such good cinnamon rolls! Soft, chewy, fluffy, flaky, a little bit of everything that was unexpected and very welcome. Though, I did get there at 6:35am on a Thursday and finally got the goods at 8:20am. Was it worth it? I'd say so, but I made sure to try at least a few of their vegetarian options even though it was just 3 of us devouring the items. Cinnamon Roll: fabulous, must get! Tropical Scone: so good, has chunks of pineapple which come through nicely. Aloha Scone: good but not as good as the tropical scone imo Macadamia Nut Pesto Focaccia: soft and fluffy, not necessarily a must get. Service was really friendly. They opened late at 0730 on the day we arrived. We got there at the opening time of 7am and there was already a line of at least 50 people. The cinnamon rolls were yummy and fresh but we did wait for over 2 hours before getting our rolls. My husband said the wait was worth it!!
