Been coming here for a long time with the family. Service is usually good, never really had a terrible experience. I like the fact they have ribs. The house margaritas are not that bad, but usually I get one of the specialty margs because the house mix is too sweet for me. The chips and salsa are in my top five favorites. read more

I stopped into the Minturn Saloon after a great Mtn bike ride. I was feeling great and wanted to relish the days ride a bit longer over a cold beer at a local place. I'd been here once before, a few years back when I skied OB from Vail down to Minturn and ended up in the Saloon and had a great time. I was probably in a state of euphoria the first time, or things have changed drastically at the Saloon since then. There were only about 4 people besides me when I walked in. A lady at the bar greeted me, asked if I was just drinking or would I be eating also. I said both and she replied that the bartender (who was within ear shot 5 ft away) would be taking care of me. He was busy talking to people at the bar but it seemed to take a long time just to ask me what I wanted to drink. I shook it off as a one-off thing. I got my beer. A few minutes later I got a menu. Then the drought of attention began. I'm not sure how long it took before the bartender finally asked, no, rather yelled across the room if I'd decided on anything. I was very near walking out but I owed money for that one beer and I don't run out on my tabs. I was also in shock at the prices!! I'm not sure how you make a burrito that costs $19 but I'm also not willing to find out. The best burrito I've ever had in my life was no more than $9. I can't imagine anything short of gold nuggets justifying twice that amount. Perusing the menu and choking on the prices, I settled on what was about the least expensive thing I could find - basic nacho's. By the time I added jalapeno's and beans, that was $13. It was more than I could eat, but I think most guys could polish those off easily. After my 2nd beer I ordered a glass of water not realizing there was a water jug & plastic cups on the counter for customers to help themselves to, as well as chips & salsa which are free. No ice is there however. My beer glass and my water glass sat empty for nearly 10 min which gave me time to decide whether I really wanted to stay here any longer begging for attention. I didn't. When the bartender finally checked in with me again, I asked for ice water this time. Finished the water. 10 more minutes pass by. I walked up to the bar and asked for my tab, paid and left. While I was drinking my first glass of water a group of apparent locals came in. There were probably 12-15 of them, they took the high table next to me. I noticed they were getting fast and frequent service. They seemed to know the staff and the level of service they got was quite different and much more attentive than I received. This is a small town near Vail. Maybe they just aren't as warm to outsiders as they are to locals but making any customer wait 10 min or longer for a drink can't be good for business. Maybe I had "Denver-ite" blazing my forehead, I'm not sure but my visit to the Minturn Saloon didn't make me eager to go back. The food prices alone will keep me from eating there again. And the next time my buddies and I ski the Minturn Mile, I think we'll consider other options for celebratory beers. That's sad because the atmosphere after skiing was a blast! We went to Minturn Saloon based off of Yelp reviews and I have to say it is the only time Yelp has let us down. It was our last night of a very lovely vacation. We sat outside on their very nice patio and overlooked the beauty of that area. That was pretty much the end of the niceties. The waiter was fine, he was earnest and it's not his fault the food was terrible. I can't say for sure but the salsa shared an uncanny resemblance to Pace Picante sauce. The guacomole wasn't seasoned at all. We got the fajitas and they were horrible. They were in a pool of liquid and not hot at all. We each had one tortilla worth then left. I had the steak and it was not cooked right and old. He had the chicken and it was dry and tasteless. Both of us were sick to our stomachs through to the next day. It robbed us of a pleasant evening at the hot tub and we didn't appreciate it. The kicker of it was the bill came to $60. We have a Mexican restaurant in Memphis that is to die for and it's 1/4 the cost. It was the only sour point of several days of tasty dining. read more

The Minturn Saloon should be a required stop for anyone visiting the Vail, CO area. Not only will it feel like you're stepping back in time - I truly imagined miners sidling up to the bar and getting their drink on - but the service is great and the food is excellent with generous portions. I highly recommend the Mixed Grill (quail, rib & duck meat all on one plate - the duck was to die for). And don't forget the fried ice cream for dessert - truly amazing. And a special shout out to our server, Dana, who kept the banter light and fun and kept our party laughing the whole night. Try and request her section when you go - she was a riot. read more

the waitress said they specialize in ribs and Quail-I thought..."that's an interesting combination" and went with the ribs with a margarita while my wife went for the Mexican samplings. I wish I would have gone Mexican as the ribs weren't great and we had literally driven here just to eat at this place. the ribs were nothing great and the margarita was very strong-overall I would definitely come back a couple times to check it out, as it was a very cool atmosphere with a deck outside that I bet rocks in the Summertime-and who knows...maybe it was a bad ribs day-I'll be back to confirm read more

Literally one of the worst meals I have ever had. I'm actually upset we didn't just send everything back and leave. The green chili was so cold the cheese was hard little cubes floating on top. The veggie burrito was a joke. The rice was so unflavored it was hardly edible. Honestly, how in the world does a place get away with charging $19 for a burrito in the first place then have the nerve to serve some of the most mediocre food ever. Yikes. Just keep on driving. I'm so disappointed. I used to come here as a kid with my family after doing the Minturn Mile, and I have so many good memories. I went here the other night and the food was pure awful. First, I had the beef/chicken combo fajitas, which were off. Both the chicken and the beef were close to spoiling--the manager denies this, stating that he oversees food quality personally, but I'm not sure why that should give me any confidence. The chicken was close to being inedible, probably on its last day, PERIOD. I sent back the fajitas and ordered a burger. Talk about being underwhelmed..they love to brag about the quality of their ingredients, but this is a ruse. My burger had ground up pieces of cartilage in it. In addition, the bun was stale, the fries were the same as those used at McDonalds (the only plus), and my Uncle's fish tacos were pretty fishy (this is normal for anything but the freshest of mahi). In fact, I had a burger three times better at Two Elk Lodge for lunch yesterday for just about the same price!! Trust me, this place is not worthy of your dining dollar--the ingredients are cheap, the food is terrible, and the prices are hilarious. If you do Minturn Mile, just eat on the mountain or bring a power bar with you..I guarantee you that you won't regret it. Hopefully, management/ownership reads this and gets real with themselves. read more

Overpriced, below-average, mushy enchiladas with mediocre service packaged in an interesting, historic saloon. I expect to overpay for dinner near Vail, but $16 for mushy enchiladas, gummy rice, and cardboard tortilla chips? Do yourself a favor: have the margarita at the saloon and dinner at Taco Bell. Sadly, you'd be better off. Probably the worst mexican food I've ever eaten. Except for a few shreds of iceberg lettuce, nothing was fresh. Short on flavor and texture, this dinner may have been prepared from bags and/or cans of cafeteria-grade mexican food and a spin in the microwave. The "Best Margarita in the Rockies" was drinkable, but small. A $5 margarita may seem like a bargain in the Vail area, but how often are margaritas served in a 6oz wine goblet? The poor little glass could barely hold the salt on the rim. So, why did I give it two stars?.......The building. I'm a sucker for history, and this place has it. Walking through the door is like a trip in a time machine transporting you to an authentic old west saloon. History oozes out of the woodwork (much of which is original including the big old bar in the main dining room). The nostalgia may be worth a visit to the Minturn Saloon, but don't stay for dinner. read more

I have gone to the Saloon every time I am in the Vail Valley. It is perfect for apres ski coming right off the Minturn mile. They have a pretty great variety in their food- from Mexican to steak. My favorites are definitely the duck and ribs. The duck is a must have if you have never been! But the ribs are always delicious. The chips are homemade and good... best paired with the queso dip (you can even ask for them to throw in some chorizo to make it extra tasty). I love the atmosphere, lots of fun signatures and pictures to see hanging around the bar. read more

Minturn Saloon - Mexican Near Me - Minturn, Colorado

They seem to specialize in margaritas. They have a 6 page menu, 2 of which are devoted to margaritas. And if you like margaritas made with miniscule amounts of tequilla plus lots of sweet & sour instead of decent quanties of tequilla, triple sec (or Cointreau) and fresh lime juice, then you should go. you can order by the glass, 1/2 liter, 1 liter plus. They do serve several good beers. The food is decent, but not spectacular. The prices start at $16.95 for basic mexican but then go way up for things like quail, shrimp, etc. all the way up to $36 for a duck entre. Duck? In a Mexican saloon? They do have a children's menu section and the place was full of kids. The inside dining room is part of an historic saloon. We elected to sit on the patio (note, no smoking outside) which started out very nice. It's mid June in the Rockies and the evening was perfect. We didn't notice the two bean bag game boards next to our table until after our drinks and chips arrived and there were no other tables to move to. We noticed the bean bag game when pretty much every kid in the place, and I did mention the place was full of kids, came over to play/toss bean bags back and forth. They all had a great time and it was good family fun, I just sort of wanted to enjoy the evening without having a bean bag whiz by every 5 seconds. If you're from Texas and enjoy all the various kinds of Mexican and/or Tex-Mex, don't expect too much here. The chips were good, but the salsa is about as bland as you can get. Tomato chunchs with onion and some cilantro. That's it. No jalepenos. But they do offer the "#10 Salsa" and I suggest you ask for it. It's some ground up chipolte peppers that you can add to the otherwise bland tomato based salsa to spice it up some. The enchiladas are pretty good. I had the pulled pork enchiladas and my wife got the chicken, but we had to pay $2 extra for white meat chicken. They have 2 sauces to choose from; a white sauce with jalepenos, which is quite good, and a red sauce, which is also good but not spicy. The beans are a mixture of "sort of" refried pinto beans mixed with whole black beans with adequate amounts of melted cheese on top. The rice is par-boiled with some tomatoe sauce and onions mixed in to mimic spanish rice. The service is very friendly and prompt primarlity because the various waitstaff seemed to help each other when the others were busy. It did take quite a while to get our check, which is frustrating because all the other service was good. read more

I have been to the Minturn Saloon several times, and each time is better than the last. The staff is incredibly helpful, friendly, and willing to do whatever it takes to insure a wonderful meal. I highly recommend the man platter, which contains duck, quail, and ribs with an unbelievable jam. By far one of the top restaurants in the Vail valley. read more

Best margarita in the county. I had the Natural Margarita along with their home-made queso and some guacamole...yum! The deck is surrounded by flowers and right on the river, but our bartender Bruce, and the historic Colorado atmosphere inside, give the deck a run for its money.Definitely a great place to stop with friends after a ride down the Minturn Mile! read more

The food at this restaurant is pretty good, however I must point out that the restaurant appeared to submit to the credit card companies a higher value than what had been signed for--we called the restaurant and they told us that they had not put in a higher value and that the credit card company had increased the amount. This sounded flawed however in the end the correct amount was charged to the credit card company. Maybe the restaurant amended the charge because we inquired. I have lived in the Vail Valley for the entire time the Saloon has been open. EVERY time i eat there I feel sick after my meal. I tried to give it another shot and I didn't even get there because the server chose to ignore us not once but twice. The restaurant was not busy and there was no excuse. The server looked like she was going out of her way to ignore us. I will never eat at the Saloon again. This is not the first time I have had less than welcoming service. If I wanted to feel less welcome I would go to the Avon Post Office. read more

I think the Minturn Saloon might suffer just a tad in this review because it has such a great reputation. I was explaining to my boyfriend (who is from out of town) that pretty much everyone has heard of Minturn Saloon, and that it's supposed to have great Mexican food. To be fair, it has pretty decent Mexican food FOR THE MOUNTAINS. It's just not very authentic, or seasoned as I have come to expect Mexican food to be seasoned... you know, spicy and maybe with some cumin, etc. I mean, if you plopped this place in Kansas, those people would go wild. But this is Colorado! We have strong expectations! I had a vegetarian burrito the first night we went, which was good and flavorful, just not amazing. Especially for $14. A few days later, we went back and I had the fajitas, which were much better. The beef was really tender and, perhaps for the first time in the history of fajitas, not ridiculously overcooked. The chicken was a little overcooked, though. The guacamole was really good, and of course, the margaritas were amazing. All in all, a place I would happily visit when I am in the mountains- definitely for drinks, maybe for Mexican food after a few drinks. But other than that, I will scratch my Mexican food itch here in Denver. read more

Having a craving for Mexican while on vacation in Vail, we decided to stop in based on yelp reviews. Got there early after a day of hiking. Place was quiet with just a few locals. Bartender Bruce, mixed us some excellent margaritas, paired with chips and salsa (serve yourself style -the best way). He is super friendly and sounds like Wolfman Jack lol! I ordered enchiladas, one chorizo, one chicken with two of their homemade sauces. My man ordered a beef and a pork chimichanga. Everything was excellent! Not that microwave Mexican you get at most places! Nice size servings. I actually ate the WHOLE THING, which is rare! Ambiance is casual and really laid back. The town of Minturn is sort of Alaskan/hipster/bohemian wrapped into one. I highly recommend the Saloon! read more

Great place to stop by and have a drink or two. But get your food somewhere else. I've been here a few years ago and remembered the food, especially the quail, being very good. On our recent camping trip, we came to the Saloon on Saturday evening for dinner. Our waitress was very sweet and deserves an A+ for making the food sound very yummy. We ordered the fish taco special (20 bucks), enchiladas and the steak and quail (33 bucks). The steak was the only thing that was ok. Just ok. Everything else was below average and absolutely not worth the $$$$. All plates came with a side of very tasteless rice and bland beans. The fish tacos had way too much shredded lettuce and came in a large flour tortilla instead of corn tortilla. Although they used Cajun seasoning on the fish, it was very boring, especially for 20 dollars. The quail was another disappointment. Not the delicious, crispy skinned quail i remembered. Overall, I wouldn't come back to eat here. Just for a few drinks at the bar. read more

Been here a couple times before and it was ok, but the waiter recommended quail & cheese enchilada and it was dry., tasteless and barely edible. Was almost thinkng of sending it back but he never cane to check on us. And it wasn't even that busy so he didn't have an excuse. Last time for us.
