The food is always good. But when I went to dine in last week with my sister. We were waiting for our bill and we saw a mouse scurrying around. We let our waitress know who was amazing and very good at her job. But they only took our one dessert off of our bill. I love this place but after seeing the mouse. I most likely won't be eating there again. read more

We have been wanting to get to Minerva's for awhile now, and we finally made it - limited to times we are up visiting our daughter. Minerva's did not disappoint!! Great atmosphere for drinks and appetizers. Food is fantastic. We had beef ribs, baked lasagna, and the special - lamb dinner the night we were there. Can't wait to get back .... Pizza is next on the list, it looks amazing. Thanks Minerva's for the fantastic night out. read more

I cannot understand why many have rave reviews about Minerva's and yet not give five stars. This isn't Michelin. Minerva's has been a neighborhood favorite for a few decades now and with good reason. They provide excellent and delicious food with great service at reasonable prices. That's all most of us want. We ordered two pizzas yesterday, a Minerva's special and a ham and pineapple. Being a snob with the belief that a ham and pineapple is not 'authentic' and fit only for tourists who like mini umbrellas in the drinks, i was really annoyed that the damned thing was delicious. I unashamedly gorged myself on it. Of course the Minerva's special was also special. And perhaps the best thing about Minerva's is that there are never going to be any surprises or disappointments. They are consistently high quality, and that alone makes them a great favorite. read more

We keep coming back to this wonderful, family run restaurant. The food is traditional, nothing avant garde, and exactly what you'd expect from a neighbourhood Greek restaurant. What you don't expect is expertly prepared food that is delicious, never over cooked, and totally satisfying. We are fans of the seafood pasta dish and the shrimp souvlaki. Both dishes are worthy of return visits! At Barra next door, we love the Haloumi salad. Be sure to order the Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. It's so much like your childhood, I dare you not to cry for joy! read more

Ordinary...server was friendly but the Greek food not that spectacular. Still looking for a good Greek restaurant in Vancouver

Just when I thought I've eaten at all the best Greek places, Minerva's really completes the hat trick: quality, pricing, decor/ambience. Throw in customer service too. though I didn't order any drinks, just hot water which I'm glad to pay or give extra tip---see if you can get away from that at any yaletown resto. anyways, i digress... Server was so thoughtful; i couldn't choose between the roast lamb or baked lasagna so she suggested to forgo the potatoes and rice that usually comes with it, and for extra buck, can get a half order of lasagna--deal! Lamb was a huge chunk, biggest i've seen so far. tender too, not super tender, but i'm being picky. Lasagna also delish and cheesy, great meat sauce. choice of veggie too. and great decor and setup, even a private back room. read more

Ordered Prime Rib Beef Ribs. They arrived with way too much very sweet barbecue sauce plopped on top. There was hardly any meat, mostly fat, and very hard to pick thru the barbecue sauce to find the meat. When asked by the waitress how my ribs were and I responded with "way too much barbecue sauce", her response was I should have ordered them Greek Style, not off the Barbecue menu. Looking back at the menu in small print it says "generous amount of barbecue sauce". My suggestion to staff, would be to warn customers of the "generous"amount of barbecue sauce and the lack of meat on the bones and full of fat. In my shock and disappointment, I forgot to take a picture. I suggest they should be taken off the menu. read more

Years ago, amazing restaurant! NOW....We ordered a chicken souvlakia tonight and it was horrid. The chicken skewer was so dry; the salad was tiny; half a small potato was good. Bulked up with boring rice and a very stale cheap pita. All this for $28! We preordered a spanakopita from Parthenon on Broadway and that was the only thing I enjoyed! Too bad it has slipped with food quality. read more

Got take out Saturday night. Garlic prawns were large and tasty but there was way too much watery sauce. Could go lighter on the garlic too!

Came here on a Sunday night for dinner. The place was very hustling and bustling. Food was overall very good. Service was great. The chicken souvlaki was a good portion, tasty tzatziki and pita. Rice was not too oily. My daughters cheese pizza was a bit on the salty side but she enjoyed it. Would come back here again. No sighting of Ryan Reynolds's. read more

Soooooooo, I wanted to take a friend who recently moved into the neighbourhood for a bite to eat and catch up. My tennis friend mentioned this place and I thought why not. The restaurant is situated in the outskirts quiet part of Kerrisdale. It's nice because you can park for free at Elm park which is just nearby. The place was quite big and spacious. Great tables for couples or groups. I was surprised at the different types of people that came in, from teenagers to grandparents. There is definitely a "homey" "neighbourhood" feel to his place. Servers were friendly, attentive, and didn't mind if you chat the night away. They had a decent wine list of reds and whites, but not a huge beer or cocktail list. The shiraz wasn't bad. I like the selection from salads, appetizers, steaks, ribs, seafood, pasta, and souvlaki. I tried the garlic prawns as appetizer and the lamb souvlaki ----- it's kind of a hit or miss whether some places cook it right, it can taste heavenly or like a barnyard. I was happy to way it was a hit :) read more

Average, at most. Sad to say, but this is my opinion. Ate here on a rainy Sunday November night. There were a dozen tables of the Kerrisdale faithful. The servers were very pleasant and seated us right away. We started with the rib appetizer. Unfortunately they tasted like they had been boiled, not done low & slow on the smoker. Then came the Greek salad- the vegetables were nice and crisp, but there was no seasoning, vinegar or oil to tie it together. The cheese and (two) olives were fine, but the salad was bland. We then had the Minerva half roasted chicken. It was quite small, dry and had obviously been cooked days before and reheated. Not very good. The (1/2) roasted potato was delicious though, and the rice pilaf was okay, not great. It was an unfortunate experience at a cute little restaurant because next time we will give it a miss and head down to 4th Avenue when we want Greek food. read more

I have been going here for years. Enjoyed it so much I introduced amazing coworkers and we began staff building meetings here early this year. Well tonight we had a horrible experience and will not be returning. Planned a small get together for Christmas and reserved for 530pm. Due to traffic and some uncontrollable issues our last lovely young woman arrived later then expected. We are very conscious of time and next group arriving 730(told to us when booking). At 5:55 pm the "owner" felt it necessary to come to the table, hold the shoulder of 1 woman without her consent or knowledge of seeing him approach this anticipate it) and "remind us" that we had to be done by said above time and remember kitchen geta busy". Excuse you!? Then to have the audacity to "scold" the late arrival and make her feel badly when she had previously been so happy to be out and see coworker friends (new mom). Not acceptable Mr Owner. Not customer service nor respectful conduct. Be thankful we did appreciate the food and woman staff and lovely bus man..and did til them. Ya almost cost them a large table tip. They have to work under you..we feel for them. read more

I love this place!!! It's always good And always consistent. We get delivery once a week. At this point I think I've tried everything on the menu. I love the souvlakis, pastas, pizzas, roast potatoes and ribs! The house made hummus is sooooo good and garlicy. Only recommendation would be that the delivery tip be shared between kitchen and driver. read more

I came in for a birthday with a group of 8. The service was really really bad. Multiple times we had to go to the bar to order more drinks or get refills, and the food took over an hour to get to the table after ordering. The food was really good, I will come back one more time to see if it was just a bad day. The pasta was so good! read more

OK, I'll admit that I have lived in the Kerrisdale area for more than 13 years and only visited this place when I first moved to Vancouver. I didn't like it much, and perhaps they had an off night. I went back tonight. It is easy to dismiss this long-standing neighborhood restaurant as just another greek style restaurant / pizza joint, but that would be a mistake - and I was wrong! The food is good, fresh, well prepared and quite tasty! I had the Half Chicken Minerva Style, my wife had a Greek Salad and Lentil Soup and my son had the Baby Back Ribs. All were reasonably priced for what it was and great, and we came home with enough for lunch tomorrow. My wife especially enjoyed the Lentil Soup, but I am unable to remember if that is a staple or a special for the night. I am so happy to have found a new place to hang in Kerrisdale, and only disappointed I didn't give it another chance all those years ago. read more

Why are there only 7 reviews for a place that is packed in the evenings? Answer: the majority of customers are 60+ in age and they don't use Yelp. Every table but one had at least one senior citizen sitting there (including mine), the exception being a table with a father and his three little kids. But these older folks are onto something. Minerva is great. It seems to have a loyal following, the kind of family run place where the owner will recognize you if you are a regular, and you'll chat like pals even though you don't know know his name (and he doesn't know yours). The kind of place where the people sitting at adjacent tables around you will tell you what's good on the menu and what they just ordered or had themselves. The kind of family friendly place where the kids get a big cup of orange soda and the adults order the house white wine and everyone eats together happily. The steak is good. Menu says it is AAA, aged for 28 days if that makes a difference to anyone. And its only around $25, including soup and a baked potato with all the fixins (including as generous a serving of bacon bits as you like, just keep asking the waiter to pile it on). The Minerva's special pizza is good too. My sister ordered a salad, and I never see her eating a salad, so they must be doing something right. The food doesn't blow me away, but it comes across as reliable and consistent. Service is good. We were in a little bit of a rush and they were very accommodating. Walked away with a high quality cardboard pizza box to house the leftovers. So no, the hip, cool kids don't come here. But they're missing out. read more

Minerva's has been a fixture in Kerrisdale and one visit quickly demonstrates why it has stood the test of time when many restaurants have short shelf lives. My friend and I were greeted by every staff member who came across us. We didn't have reservations on Saturday evening and we were quickly seated (the place was busy). The waiter was spot on. He approached our table and told us he will be right back once he's done with another table. Then when we ordered our food, he said the kitchen was pretty busy so he asked if we'd like our salads before the meal. Very conscientious! The Greek salad was ok, not terrible but I've had better dressing. The roast lam and lamb souvlaki were very good. I loved the flavour and seasoning. Then as we were leaving, everyone was very friendly saying goodbye. The staff and lamb were certainly worthy of 5 stars. I gave it 4 because of the Greek salad and I was a bit disappointed they don't have dolmathes or saganki on the menu. read more

We've been here twice. Service was better the first time but neither time anything great! Food was not so good either. Food was okay -very garlicky and we both got heartburn both times. We tired Greek good the first time- souvalaki, lamb chops, calamari (very fishy- we couldn't eat more than one bite), and hummus. The second time we had asparagus soup (they didn't clean them properly and had the tough chewy ends), Caprese salad ( rather plain - the one at trattoria on 4th is way better) and baked veggie pasta ( sauce from a jar tastes better). I would not recommend it here. The Greek food st Opa in the good court at malls tastes better and sits better in the stomach! read more

When you come into a restaurant and they tell you they want the table back, before you have even sat down and ordered. That there is a 90 minute time limit. It definitely to me, comes across as rude and disrespectful. Apparently Ryan Reynolds gave this place a plug as his favourite spot and it would seem that this has gone to their heads, by the way they tell customers that they have to "clear out", after 90 minutes. I have never been told that by a restaurant in Vancouver, ever. It is such shame. I have been coming to Minerva's since the early 80"s and will no no longer patronize this "business". read more

To start, I have to say this place is clearly well established in Kerrisdale. Lots of people like it. I've been there three times since moving to Kerrisdale last year, mostly because the options in this neck of the woods are limited (as compared to say, Kitsilano). One time, my food was highly salty, which I didn't appreciate. I have a feeling it is more suitable for the elderly clientele that frequent the tables there. The most recent time I visited, we waited for over an hour for our food. After inquiring as to why (and I was about ready to stand up and walk out when we did), the server returned to tell us they had made an error in the kitchen and had needed to re-make one of the dishes. Did they tell us? No. Complimentary bread. No. We got nothing. No discount. No conversation with the manager. It was unacceptable. I will never return. read more

*BREAKING NEWS: If you ate at Minerva's in 2011 from June 24 and July 5, or July 10, 12 or 13, you need to check for symptoms of HEPATITIS A until September 1.* One of the line cooks was diagnosed with Hep A and, as unsettling and potentially damaging as it is for the restaurant, Minerva's did the responsible thing to alert the public. Read more: http://www.vancouversun.com/health/Restaurant+cook+diagnosed+with+hepatitis/5232439/story.html#ixzz1UtjIV777 Minerva's has been a family restaurant for Kerrisdale regulars for years and years, serving fairly generic (for this city) Greek standards and pizza. But it ain't destination dining. I wouldn't come here if I were truly craving Greek or pizza. It's usually if I can't think of anything else and feel like something in this neighborhood. But I haven't been back to Minerva's for quite some time, ever since some of the chicken on the otherwise and hitherto delicious BBQ Chicken Pizza was served to me still partially frozen. And although the establishment can't be blamed for an infected employee, I don't think I'll be back for quite a while longer. read more

The food is decent here. Prices can be a bit high and that's why I only come to eat here once in a while. Service is usually good.

Minerva's is great! Went here the other week for my fiancés family birthday dinner. I suggested it partly because it was a convenient location but also because of the positive reviews which were definitely accurate. The service was a tad glacial but the food was awesome. We had a party of six and every person was very happy with their order. There were a few orders of various souvlaki, a chicken parmigiana, a baked lasagna and a fettucini Alfredo. I personally had the beef souvlaki and it was one of the best I have ever had. No joke. I love souvlaki. Greek is one of my go-to dinner options so I've eaten a lot of souvlaki over the years and this was exceptional. The beef was cooked to perfection; it wasn't chewy at all but very tender with just the right touch of pink left in the middle. The potato and rice were splendid too; flavorful yet not greasy. Also, I wasn't dying of thirst after which is something that sometimes happens after souvlaki. The decor is very nice and predictable for the type of restaurant and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Other than the drink order taking a while everything was great. I will definitely be back! read more

Let me start by saying, I love Minerva's. Minerva's is the one restaurant that reminds me of my childhood. I was born in 1980 and have been going with and without my parents for MANY years. At Minerva's, my family would celebrate birthdays, have dinner if my parents did not want to make dinner or if the we begged and pleaded for a treat during the weekends. I remember that I my father and I would both order the baked lasagna. Half orders for me when I was a child, full orders as I got older. We would see who could eat more. Of course my father would be able to finished the entire one. I would get my leftovers for a midnight snack or lunch the next day. I loved picking the melted cheese off the side of the metal dishes the individual lasagnas. Over the years it is still hard for me to choose between the lasagna or the lamb souvlaki. Tonight, I was not feeling well at all and decided that I was going to order something instead of going to Safeway and cooking it myself. It was 10:30pm and Minerva's closes at 11pm. I was soooooooooo happy that it was not too late to put in an order for delivery. Well my food is here, so I MUST go! I just wanted to thank everyone at Minvera's for the many years of amazing food and fantastic memories. Thank you. read more

Minerva's is the go-to for a bunch of special occasions (like birthdays) in my family. It's pretty much what you'd expect from something described as a pizza and steak house as far as the menu goes. Everyone is always pretty satisfied with their meals, and they are always cool with making me some weird mix and match pasta dish that isn't technically on the menu. I usually pull a "can I get this noodle... with that sauce.. and can you throw in spinach?" Decent service, bit of a slow wait for food, overall pretty okay. read more

This is a solid restaurant, very consistent. Its a typical Greek family restaurant and offers standard lite Greek fare, pizza, and some western dishes. The pizza is very good, definitely made in a restaurant and not a pizza joint. Their calamari also will not disappoint. I like the lamb here, they know how to cook it. Minerva's pricing is very competitive and the quality is far higher than Stepho's. Its definitely the best restaurant in this neighborhood. I think its actually one of the better Greek restaurants in town. read more

This place is one of our regular haunts, always delicious and satisfying. The lamb souvlaki is one of the most delicious, I have ever had. Anything with their tomato sauce on it, is also over the top delicious. The pizzas are always good, but the traditional meals are always better choice. Both are good but the lamb, meatballs, chicken and fish are always exceptional. Save the pizza for late night delivery. This place is very unusual in that all the staff present themselves, as if they truly want to be here. What a pleasant surprise. Service is friendly and efficient. Don't hesitate making this your choice. read more

Overcome with intractable nostalgia for a Minerva's pizza this afternoon. Walked in mid-afternoon, totally empty restaurant. So I perched at the window to watch the Lamborghinis cruise past. Minerva's Special Pizza still on the menu. Nothing is fast here, so began reading an old Elmore Leonard novel which had me laughing at page two. Pizza arrives - so delish, just as I remembered it from years ago, lots of takeout for the kids on a lazy night. Waiting for my bill - a very long time - solo diner again here - the place had begun to fill up with the regular crowd. Older folks, family groups, folks from the 'hood walking over for the very good Greek-influenced mains. Great wine and bar list. Family-owned and operated. Everything is consistently good here. Lots of street parking. read more

Haven't visited Minerva's for years, but that will change. In many ways, this place is a throwback to the old style family restaurants that served simple Greek cuisine and was the neighborhood hangout. Well they've expanded the adjacent bar area and the place is as vibrant as ever, retaining its local charm. The food is simple including pastas, pizzas and ribs, but it's all well executed and not pretentious. Our server Monica was a real gem and was able to converse in 3 languages! Wow. Highly recommended for a casual night out. read more

I came here with a girlfriend on a Wednesday night and it was pretty full- a clear sign that they must be doing something right! Food: We ordered one appetizer and one pizza (we saw many people carrying pizza boxes...must be popular!) We decided to go with the Tzatziki Sauce and Pita and a small Pesto, Sundried tomato and chicken pizza. The Tzatziki Sauce was basically a a mixture of grated cucumbers, garlic, yogurt, and sour cream. The pita bread was crispy on the outside and warm and soft inside- EXACTLY how I love them! The sauce was great for dipping as it tasted fresh (because of the garlic), and refreshing (because of the crunch of the grated cucumbers). The pizza was amazing as well- six slices of thick, crunchy crust filled generously with a heavenly mixture of cheese, pesto sauce, chicken and sundried tomato goodness. AMAZING! They also serve steaks, seafood, salads, and pasta. Service: As amazing as the food was, the service was not that great. First of all, we had to wait for a table for 15 mins when there were clearly empty tables inside the restaurant. That was a tad strange. I also felt sorry for the waitresses...totally overworked. I think there were only two in the entire restaurant ( around 15 tables?) and we weren't served until 15-20 mins after were seated. One of the glasses on our table also had a lipstick stain on it...but our waitress apologized profusely and changed it immediately. Overall, not the waitresses' faults but the boss' fault for the poor service. Ambiance: It's pretty small and cozy and also pretty dark. It can also get quite loud. Definitely not very romantic, but great for families and friends. Value: Minerva's prices are acceptable. Small pizza was $12-14 depending on the toppings and appetizers are around $7-8. For the quality of the food, can say it was worth it :) read more

There is something comforting about Minerva's. I like coming here for late dinner. It seems there's always at least a couple tables of big groups talking and laughing even past 10 in the evening. I've been seated as late as 10:40pm with no problem. Servers and staff are some of the friendliest and most cordial you will find around Kerrisdale. My go-to is the baby back ribs, mmmmm.....grilled asparagus also delicious! Tonight I got the lamb souvlaki for the first time, which was much more flavourful and tender than I've had elsewhere. I enjoyed it just as much as, and maybe even more than, the ribs. Will definitely be back for this again soon! Ordered the strawberry shortcake with whip cream and vanilla ice cream for dessert. It was okay, although I probably wouldn't order it again. Service was top-notch from beginning to end. Overall a highly satisfying dining experience. Total came in at $35 after tax and tip. Highly recommend! read more

Minerva's is a great staple in Kerrisdale. It's been there since about 1975 and they just opened a bar next door which I believe is the only one in the area. We were there last night and it was packed, showing the baseball game, the bar side looks nice, darker and modern, great addition. We dined in the main restaurant with reservations and had preordered the prime rib specials. They do run out so if you're headed over and wanting the Prime Rib, make sure when you make your reservation you call and order the right amount so you don't get disappointed. I don't actually see it on the menu and I'm not sure if it's offered every night but we were there on a Friday night and they accommodated our request. The restaurant and bar were very busy and it felt like they were understaffed so it took a bit long to get our food, but the service was still decent and our waters were refilled frequently. When you order the Prime Rib, you get your choice of the seafood chowder or the garden salad with your choice of dressing. You also get your choice of the baked potato, mashed potato or I think also a pasta. Nice variety, the prime rib was tender, well cooked and juicy. Great meal! read more

Came here on a Sunday night, the restaurant was filled with older customers and relatively busy at 7pm. We ordered the chicken souvlakii, 12" meat pizza and a seafood pasta for the 3 of us.
