The platter and entrees.
Mika I.

Amazing experience! The food tastes great and a good portion of food. The service was exceptional. Well had a baby and a dog on the patio and they made sure both were happy. Overall we are really satisfied and would highly recommend. The restaurant is beautiful too.

Compared to what you get in vancouver or the tricities we find the pricing to be very fair. Ontop of that the portions are good. Being a golf course in a beautiful setting that pasta plate could've easily been $40+ in vancouver. With how nicely landscape is the service is good and friendly. We enjoyed how there was live music inside but we chose to be outside .

Although we sat in the dining side, we were able to hear the live music playing in the lounge which was amazing. I loved the Brussels sprouts and potato skins. We also ordered the bolognese which was nothing out of the ordinary. One downfall was our service. It took over ten minutes before we had our drink order taken. When our entrees arrived, three out of the six meals were brought to the table over 5 minutes after the initial three dishes were served. A male who we assumed was the manager approached our table, asked us how our evening was, said "great okay thank you" and walked away. It was a nice gesture, however the interaction was not very professional. I would come back for happy hour !

Mushroom soup: not much flavour and a few leathery fried mushrooms at the bottom Yam salad with kale and barley: was fresh and colourful but needed some acid to liven it up. After four bites I got bored. Rice balls: golden brown and bite size with a side of tomato sauce with shredded onions and carrots. Rice was overcooked and mushy. Tomato with pancetta spaghetti: here is where the fusion aspect misses because I didn't like cured ham flavour of the pancetta. Service was good, very quick. Ambiance is clean but I was also close a woman with too much perfume and every time the door opened that cloying smell overwhelmed me.

The restaurant was clean, well set up, and nicely lighted. The service was great. Our server was friendly, and the food came out quickly. Now into the food: Honey Garlic Chicken Wings 2.5/5. They were ok but nothing special. I feel like I could have similar wings buying it frozen from the grocery store and at $2.50/wing. I cant justify that. Seafood Pasta 3/5. For something that was almost $30 I expected more. The amount and size of seafood was fine but I had expected more flavour like grilled prawns or seared scallops. Seems like it was all poached so there was no colour and everything was the same texture, colour, and flavour. It was cooked well and tender, but for the price, I would have liked some crust on my scallops and I could not taste the lobster in the sauce. Overall, it was seasoned well and still tasted good. Calabrese Salami Pizza 3.5/5 Crust was crispy and thin. Good amount of salami. Could have used more olives. The oven made the salami nicely crisp on the edges. However, there was no basil as noted on the menu. Just a little bit of basil oil drizzled on the center. Overall, if you want a comfortable place to sit and catch up with friends, this is a good place for it. The food while okay, could use some improvement.

As for the food. We started with the arancini appy which was great. The rice balls were flaky yet moist. The balance of flavours on the chicken is fantastic, a bit of acid, herb, salt, and others. Made for a special at home feast in these trying times.

First off, the bread isn't as good as usual. It was fine but nothing great and barely Luke warm. We always get asked if we want more bread but not on our visit here - a first. Our server was so busy and there was no supporting staff except to deliver the food from the kitchen. We didn't get asked if we wanted more bread, took 20 minutes to get our order in, our calamari appetizer never arrived and just our mains but by the time we could find our server we were halfway through our mains despite that I am a slow eater. The server did apologize and said he would bring the calamari and take it off the bill, which was nice. Calamari came in 10 minutes but portion looked small. When the server came by next he mentioned that it came quickly because he stole the order from another table - what?!? Am glad the calamari was free because it didn't taste great and portion was small. My boyfriend wasn't asked if he wanted another beer until we were at the end of the meal and when I asked for a water refill it took another 10 minutes. It took us over 2 hours to eat and not because I was slow eater but due to the slow service. We were looking forward to our Billy Miner pie but the server never mentioned it and as it took so long to find him we gave up on dessert and opted to go for dessert somewhere else. This must be a franchise location and not sure why it's so busy as service and food easily the worst Keg location I've ever been to and I have to most locations in the Lower Mainland plus Kelowna. Will definitely stick to the Vancouver and Burnaby locations from here on out. The bigger disappointment was that I wrote to the Keg to provide feedback and never heard back. Sad to see one of the best chain restaurants to go downhill.

We emailed the restaurant after to discuss the experience and had no response. We ordered appies and drinks to start. The Caesar salad is amazing and highly recommend. The crab cakes and calamari were also delicious. 2 people got prime rib, one steak, and one filet mignon. Plus a bunch of sides, like the brussels, Mac and cheese, and broccoli gratin. The broccoli gratin was dried burnt broccoli with a sprinkle of parm. The Mac and cheese was bland. The food came out except for 1 prime rib. After 10 minutes, the server came to apologize and inform us that they were out of prime rib. He offered the prime rib sandwich on rush, which we appreciated. It came out quickly enough but was not good. There was too much fat to meat ration. We would have sent back a few things but the table beside us sent back their food multiple times and we were ready to go. Not sure what happened but it was an off day. I would not recommend this location!

Updated review…read more.. Still the best bbq around. Beautifully smoked. Sauced just right. Top notch cornbread. Deeply flavourful put beans, and decent corn. Loved the tap list. Loved the bourbon flights. Ambiance is great. Price point reasonable. However...... The manager (or the person I assumed was the manager) was hurried and terse. No rude or anything, just rushed. The servers were good. They had to check when I asked questions regarding vegetarian options - Which brings me to my only quibble... Hubby really wanted to go to Hog Shack for early Fathers Day. He remembered wonderful BBQ meals there in the past. One of my adult children is vegetarian though. I thought Hog Shack might be able to cobble a plate of sides for the vegetarian. We weren't expecting pulled jackfruit or pulled tofu or other options offered by places such as Slims (Vancouver) or Patina (Port Coquitlam). Our expectations were set reasonably low. My daughter ended up ordering the tater tot's, but asked that they not include the brisket topping. She ordered corn bread and a side of cooked veggies. The cooked veggies never came. The tarot tots (sans the brisket) were charged at FULL PRICE! I ended up asking for the veggies to be removed from the bill (they didn't forget to charge for it) and asked why the tater tots weren't reduced in price to reflect that no brisket was included. The manager ended up giving me a small container of brisket - which is fine, because I paid for it lol!! The gator tots came to over $23!!! Yeah - I would expect a reduction in price or the brisket on the side. I still tipped on the original bill - I wasn't expecting happy with our servers. Overall, I wasn't expecting "vegetarian friendly" but I also wasn't expecting "vegetarian hostile" Keep this in mind - if someone in your party doesn't eat meat - go to Slims or Patina. If everyone in your party is a raging carnivore - go at it at Hog Shack.

A…read morefriend pointed out their all day happy hour from Monday to Thursday so we decided to check it out yesterday. Upon arrival, it was quiet and we were one of the few tables inside. For a group of four, we settled for quite a few items as we wanted variety. My friends also ordered the Hog Shack Caesar which is a Bourbon twist on a regular caesar. Apart from some standard cocktails, they also had additional happy hour beer/wine specials. For regular menu, we settled on the Jurassic platter to get a good variety as well as the brisket plate. Within the platter, the dino bones and the chicken leg stood out the most. The dino beef bones had good flavour and texture. To my surprise, the chicken was super moist and aromatic. The pork ribs and pulled pork were okay in our opinion. As for the sides, I always love corn bread so that didn't miss, but the other sides didn't impress me - I was especially hoping for yummy cole slaw but it was a bit bland. They had a feature side which was a fennel sausage pasta salad, but it came out piping hot which confused us. Unfortunately, the beef brisket plate was dry (as mentioned in the other reviews). I also picked the spring roll special which was a pleasant surprise as they were delicious! They came out piping hot and the filling was flavourful and not too salty. Unfortunately I did not snap a picture of the actual happy hour menu items (oops), but we ordered the brussel sprouts and pulled pork alfredo pasta. The portion size was excellent and I especially like the pasta and found the combination of pork and penne delicious. Needless to say, this was far too much food for 4 people and we left with an extra 2 people's worth of food. Hog shack is great to satisfy your cravings if you're in the area, but real Southern food lovers would likely find it hard to eat the bbq here. However, I still enjoyed the meal and service overall and immediately went home after to enter food coma. :-)
