My husband and I were feeling nostalgic for old school Greek style pizzas, where the toppings are hearty, and the crust is not some limp, wet, soggy mush that seems to be so popular now. We hadn't been to Minerva's in a long time because it's quite far from where we live, but decided to make the trek one Sunday. The place was packed, so make reservations! We ordered two mediums, which is double what is needed for two hungry adults. The pizzas were DIVINE. We each ordered one of their listed pizzas and then added extra items. I honestly can't remember what we ordered, as their online menu is a bit different from what you get at the restaurant. The crust was delicious, not too thick, but thick enough to hold the generous toppings and sauce, and a nice crispy, yet tender texture. The sauce was unapologetically bold and seasoned. The toppings plentiful. Not too cheesy, which we both appreciated. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The front area, which is a wine bar was packed with younger crowds, while the back restaurant area (I don't think it's changed since the 90's) was mostly families and their quite elderly parents. But everyone was clearly enjoying themselves wherever they sat. If you are sick of wet, limp pizza, I strongly recommend making a reservation and going! read more

I've been going here for years and must say it always have and always will be the best Vancouver Greek restaurant in my opinion The lamb is so tender and juicy, never any complaints. The portion is excellent for its price and it always pairs perfectly with the baked potato that comes with it. The moussaka was absolutely heavenly. It was my first time trying this dish, I was worried it would be slightly bland for my tastes (I was imagining a rendition of a shepherds pie) but I was absolutely pleased it had an amazing subtle hint of nutty tangy spice. I think the pizza is a hit or miss I tried the odyseas and it nothing really stuck out to me unfortunately. I think it was lacking some pizazz. The ribs combo were ok, the bbq ribs were a little too saucy - but honestly nothing can beat the lamb here I'd also suggest checking out the happy hour at their bar off the side of the restaurant, there's tons of food and the portions are still huge - unlike at other places where happy hour items are often small servings. Also we went on a Friday night and had a reservation. It was pretty packed but still somehow we got our food within 15-20 min of ordering. read more

What a bustling spot, even on a Tuesday evening! Minerva's is a popular Greek restaurant on the edge of the Kerrisdale strip, serving sizable portions of Greek classics, pasta, and pizza. I want to start off by saying that the service was amazing. Monica was incredibly sweet, attentive, and kept our pita bread supply coming fresh and hot. She made our experience feel so personable and was on the ball about everything without making us feel rushed. The food is where I found things fell a little flat. The calamari was very good, as was the pita bread, but I found the hummus to be way too salty. My moussaka was also quite salty, and it looked like it had been cut hours before it was served to me. The potato part on the top was also a springier/gummier texture than it should have had. My friends had the baked spaghetti and baked lasagna, both of which were decent, though nothing to write home about. I will say that the portion sizes in general were quite big, and I am glad to have some leftovers for my lunch today. But at the $47 price tag for subpar moussaka and a couple appetizers, I don't know if I'll be back. read more

Food, service, overall attentiveness and friendliness of all the staff (and there's a LOT!), lively ambience, it was "all good" and beyond our expectations. We had prawns (HUGE), chicken (moist), kalimari (tender), sticky toffee pudding (OMG ). Lovely prompt service....wish we lived nearer but we WILL be back, for sure!! After reading the article where Ryan Reynolds did a shout out to Minerva's being his favourite restaurant, guess where the fiance immediately booked our next date night? We snagged an early reservation after making promises we would clear out in 90 minutes, and happily made our way into Kerrisdale. If I had to hazard a guess, I would have said Minerva's was a nice little restaurant before they bought out the bar/lounge space right next to it. The lounge/bar was a different atmosphere as we made our way through to the "restaurant" part of the restaurant. I liked that part of the restaurant a whole lot more: it felt like a relaxed family run restaurant, hints of Italian/Greek decor all around. The waitress was very gracious in making a touch of light conversation around why we came here... I suspect we must have been her millionth customer mentioning the actor. As customary for us, we ordered Calamari to start and had complimentary bread. Standard deep fried squid rings, generous portions, nothing I can recall that really stands out (other than the cool plate it was served on), but it was delicious nonetheless. For our mains, the fiance chose the Spinach Tortellini while I eventually settled on Chicken Cacciatore. He was nice enough to set aside one tortellini for me to try. Hot, cheesy gooey goodness stuffed in a pastry, I couldn't taste too much of the spinach and we only wished the portions were bigger. For myself, I learned Cacciatore meant "hunter-style" and made me picture a one-pot dish with all the meats and veggies stewed in. Something hearty and delicious that could be prepared over the campfire. Had a good helping of spaghetti, generous portions of chicken mixed in tomato type sauce with mushrooms, onions, etc. A little higher proportion of sauce versus contents than I would like, but I'm well aware it is my personal bias only. Fiance liked his tortellini much better than the cacciatore, but I wish to be diplomatic about the dishes. I would say if you want to indulge in something rich and creamy, go with the tortellini. If you want something filling but not to the point of suffering from a food coma, consider the cacciatore. The food and service was fast and efficient and we were able to clear our tables within the promised time. The tables had rapidly filled up in the time we were there, and it felt only right to vacate our spots and let someone else have their dining experience. While not the fanciest or most high end restaurant, it was a very good experience and I could see why Ryan Reynolds gave such a big shout-out to Minerva's. read more

Great neighborhood gem. Food was really good. I particularly love their Mediterranean Ribs. It is so flavourful and tender. Their roasted potatoes are perfection here and the rice, yum! Thumbs up. Really great restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food. Some street parkings and bus stops only. A big restaurant but extremely busy so it's best to make reservations. There's a few options for alcoholic beverages but mocktails can be done upon request. Cocktails for good and not watered down. Food looks like regular portion so we order 4 thinking one for each. We didn't even finish it and have to take some home. The portion here is great and prices are reasonable for the quality. Ingredients are fresh and flavours are there. The pita, rice, and potatoes so done perfectly. Moussaka and the half-chicken was soooooo good! Roasted lamb shoulder was soft and tastes decent too but I've have better ones that melts in the mouth. Went here for the first time last week, I had a great experience. My groups waitress Monica was super polite and very informative on what items were good to try on the menu. I went with the Beef Souvlaki and it was super delicious and the beef was really tender. Really recommend this place to anyone that is in this area they have lots of options. read more

After over a decade of patronage, my 96 year old mother in law and her friends will no longer be customers of Minerva's Consequently neither shall we nor extended family be ordering our occassional pizza from Minervas. Why not? The manager of Minerva's has been assertively rude and unwelcoming of the elderly. Yes, they do not buy a lot and do stay awhile during a once weekly happy hour but they have been loyal customers for decades. Even if the manager needs the table for higher paying customers there is no need to be rude. Shame on Minerva's manager. We are gone as a family. read more

Wow, was that a disappointment! First off, when I arrived to pick up my (takeout) meal, they had given it to someone else. We ordered 2 lamb dinners at $35 a plate. The lamb was stringy and not at all tender. The pita was yeasty, and with no tzatziki included, not particularly enticing. At least rice and potatoes are always good. I went back to the restaurant afterwards to talk to the management. They took my card, said they would talk to the chef and owner - and call me back. It's been a few days now... We flew in to Vancouver for a ski trip up to Whistler. On our way to the Airbnb we stopped in here for dinner. It was so good! And our server Monica was the best! She really made our experience that much better! We got the garlic prawns and hummus for appetizers. Both were so good. The pita bread is out of this world! Made reservations for anniversary dinner for 5:30pm which was not busy but by 6pm, the restaurant was starting to get full. Our waitress was great, she was tentative, available and made us feel welcomed for our first time at this restaurant. She and the staff wore mask the whole time which was appreciative. The calamari for appetizer was light, crisp and unlike some places where the batter falls right off...this was on point. Had the ribs and steak which was cooked perfect medium rare for the steak with baked potatoes. Meat fell off the bone for baby back ribs easily. My wife had the chicken souvlaki and the chicken was moist and great flavour, seasoning. Not dry for the chicken. Kids had baked spaghetti and pizza which they enjoyed. I really, really wanted to like this place. I, too, had heard the shout out by Ryan Reynolds about how this is his favorite restaurant, so when my friend asked me where I wanted to go, I suggested this place. I liked the bar area, though it was crowded and it feels weird to walk through that area to get to the old, well-worn, very 1980s-feel restaurant in the back. Speaking of the 80's, do you remember those pizza-steak-lasagna-souvlaki restaurants that have all but died out now? Well, this is the last vestiges of them. I can handle an old looking place, and I can handle an old looking menu, but what I can't handle is getting all that and being charged 2022 prices. I wouldn't have even minded an 80s menu, but at least show that there have been some changes made to flavor and presentation since then to make it worth the money. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Ravioli and it came on a silver plate (again, like the 80s) and there was absolutely nothing special about this $25 plate of pasta at all. It was, quite simply, a bunch of boiled, pre-packaged ravioli which was swimming in white sauce and I just couldn't detect any gorganzola at all in the sauce. It looked exactly like the pasta I would make as an undergrad with Olivieri ravioli and Classico sauce. I swear to god, exact same. My friend ordered the Spinach Tortellini. Exact same experience. I think that maybe the key is to order the Greek fare or the ribs, or steaks? Not sure, but I would most definitely avoid the pasta here unless you are ok with paying $25 for a dish you could make better at home for $12. read more

One-line review: The pricing was higher than we were originally expecting but dinner was excellent. We are new to the neighborhood and wanted to try out a place nearby, so we actually walked to Minerva's. We had come without a reservation and were asked to have a seat while they found a place for us. On a Wednesday night, it didn't take long. The inside of the restaurant was lit for ambience (i.e. not too bright, but not dark), and though the space is seemingly large, our table for two felt like a little sheltered for intmacy's sake -- not quite romantic, but nice. We ordered: - Meat-tastic pizza (great crust, well-seasoned meats) - Lamb souvlaki (decent portions of lamb [super tender and properly rare], rice, and Greek salad, and again, well-seasoned) - One beer: Dark Matter (Hoyne). My wife loved this. Our server Monica was awesome. She was knowledgeable about the menu, helpful during the ordering, and attentive throughout the evening. Total price was $65 with tax and tip (and we ordered modestly -- could have been a LOT more), so not a cheap night out given our usual budget, but in this case, I think it was worth the price tag. That's high praise when I say it, as I'm picky about value. Parking is on the street at meters or free in the neighborhood if you can find a spot and don't mind walking. Since we walked from home, this was not an issue for us. Bottom line: This was a great night out, and we'll be back -- eventually. Just not the kind of place we can go to every week. read more

I had been to this restaurant couple years ago and remembered it being decent so I went back recently. We ordered Beef Souvlaki and Penne Alla Toscana. I found the beef pretty chewy and tough. I liked that the potato was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. But it lacked flavour and wasn't the best I have had. Overall the dish didn't taste salty but I was drinking water madly throughout the meal so it must have been more salty than I thought. Pasta was obviously salty. But we liked the chicken - it was crispy and cooked very well. Considering the price - both $22 - I wouldn't say the food is really worth it. Pita bread might have been the best part of the meal. It was very fresh and light. We would rate the food around 3.5/5 Meanwhile the service was great. They were very friendly and very keen on filling the water. read more

I cannot understand why many have rave reviews about Minerva's and yet not give five stars. This isn't Michelin. Minerva's has been a neighborhood favorite for a few decades now and with good reason. They provide excellent and delicious food with great service at reasonable prices. That's all most of us want. We ordered two pizzas yesterday, a Minerva's special and a ham and pineapple. Being a snob with the belief that a ham and pineapple is not 'authentic' and fit only for tourists who like mini umbrellas in the drinks, i was really annoyed that the damned thing was delicious. I unashamedly gorged myself on it. Of course the Minerva's special was also special. And perhaps the best thing about Minerva's is that there are never going to be any surprises or disappointments. We keep coming back to this wonderful, family run restaurant. The food is traditional, nothing avant garde, and exactly what you'd expect from a neighbourhood Greek restaurant. What you don't expect is expertly prepared food that is delicious, never over cooked, and totally satisfying. We are fans of the seafood pasta dish and the shrimp souvlaki. Both dishes are worthy of return visits! At Barra next door, we love the Haloumi salad. Be sure to order the Strawberry Shortcake for dessert.
