During my stay at the JW Marriott Parq, I chose to have dinner at The Victor. I arrived right at the start of their dinner service and was immediately welcomed--the host greeted me warmly and escorted me to a window table. The ambiance was cozy and elegant, though reminiscent of a classic steakhouse. My server was attentive and polite, quickly bringing out a complimentary starter. The bread was fluffy, soft, and served warm--absolutely delicious. I restrained myself, saving room for the main course and dessert. For my entrée, I ordered the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes, paired with a glass of red wine (The Prisoner, "Unshackled"). The dish was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. To finish, I followed the server's recommendation and tried Menke's Cake. It was a delightful choice and the perfect ending to the meal. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience and would gladly return the next time I'm in Vancouver.

The food is excellent and amazing! They have one of the best crab cake to die for! Their salmon was cooked in perfection when I had it! Serving might be slow when it's busy. Otherwise, the vibes and interior is amazing!

Tomahawk steak was so good. Love the crème brûlée donut and whiskey cake dessert. The service was great and the ambience

I have been here 3 times so I am sort of averaging it as i experienced it over 2 years. first time I came for my birthday - the service was lovely at first but the food was underwhelming and our order was essentially "wrong" because the steak came out over done but then the waiter told us at the time because of the thick cut of it, even if we had it remade it would still be the same. It was odd because if that is the case why would you even ask us how we wanted it done? Second time I came to celebrate a friends birthday. We had an assortment of dishes which tasted great but then a glass was dropped by accident near our table and there were glass shards everywhere. Not their fault because hey, things happen but some shards had hit our feet so just ended the evening rather quickly. The most recent time I came for happy hour to welcome a guest visiting our family. The happy hour section is only allowed at the "lounge" but it is weird clunky seating and unsuitable for older diners (their opinion). The server was kind and attentive but the bussers were less kind bringing us our dishes. The food was good enough but still on the pricier side overall. The service is nice but you definitely pay for the prestige of dining there. I think it can be lovely for date night or girls night out but be prepared to pay.

First time going to The Victor for Happy Hour as had been here for a previous Birthday dinner. We made a reservation but ended up coming early and they were happy to accommodate us and let us sit in the shady area of the open outdoor patio as we came on a sunny warm Sunday. The view here is semi private surrounded by BC Place Stadium, condo towers, and the open deck with a man made rock island and fountain - cute! We ordered drinks first - a beer and ice tea. No idea what the ice tea cost as it wasn't on the menu but I loved how it was served with a lemon wedge on the side, as it should be. Not sure what brand ice tea here but it was one of the best ice teas I've had as most restaurants ones taste watery with too much ice. To my surprise, they offer free refills and it only cost $3. My boyfriend said it was much cheaper than Cactus, that charges $5. We ordered a bunch of Happy Hour dishes to try - half dozen Fanny Bay oysters, Hamachi in ponzu sauce, Dynamite roll, mushroom aranchini, and wagyu croquettes. The complimentary milk bread came first and it's so soft and warm - great way to start a meal. Next came everything else we ordered. The Fanny Bay oysters were quite small but good enough and a decent price for around $2.30/each. However, I recommend going to Fanny Bay restaurant directly to try their oyster bar for a better experience. Dynamite roll was average but the Hamachi was fresh, tasty, and refreshing. We really liked both the mushroom aranchini and the wagyu coquette as they were tasty, perfectly fried, and not overly oily or heavy. Service here was solid with our server being attentive and our glasses were never empty. Solid spot for a Happy Hour menu if you want to be in a more tucked away quieter location.

The Victor was the perfect restaurant for relaxing and enjoying tasteful food with gorgeous evening views before our concert. As we approached the entrance, I couldn't take my eyes off the color choices they used to decorate which made me want to check out every detail. Like the melted candles, the book stacks etc. You can sit in the restaurant or in the part that opens completely to the outside where there's a pool. Our server Dario assisted us kindly in making our choices of what to try there and we were satisfied. If you like fine dining, artful decorating and relaxing feeling, this place will keep you coming back.

We came here for the Spoils of Sunday Brunch Buffet. Oh my goodness...I have never been to a buffet like this one before. They hand you a menu and you're supposed to choose an entree, made to order; on top of that, there's buffet! I ordered a Shakshuka for my entree. It was a regular sized entree. The fact that we had buffet on top of it didn't make the entree any smaller. Holy food coma. My shakshuka came with two eggs on it. One of them was overcooked but the other one had a nice, runny yolk. The buffet selection is smaller than a lot of other buffets. I suppose that has something to do with the made to order entree that they give you. Quality of the food however is for the most part, very good. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts. Our family kept on going back for more and more of the brussel sprouts. (Except for me. I wanted to go back for more but was really too full. Could only handle one serving of everything. Didn't have room for seconds of anything.) Loved the mashed potatoes too and would have gone back for more if I'd had room in my tummy for it. We were celebrating someone's birthday so they brought a piece of cake with a sparkler on it for the birthday person. Always a nice touch! On your way out, there's a candy bar where you help yourself to sweet treats like chocolate bark thins, sours, gummies, and salt water taffy!

Came here for the buffet weekend brunch. The Victor is a bit hard to find but it was manageable to navigate. You have to go to the back of the hotel and take the elevator up. The food was decent. I enjoyed the chicken and waffles and Tuna poke. The service was very good but it's on par with other high end hotel restaurants. We never felt rushed even though there was a stated time limit. It was good to experience and I would recommend to try at least once. But I'd only come back for the experience if others wanted to go; I wouldn't initiate it as I didn't feel it was worth it for me.

We dine here as a group, at this classic steakhouse offering a great selection of steaks and fresh seafood. Their cocktails were amazing. Service and ambiance were good and everyone had a pleasant experience, presentation of the food was great too It's worth it, I'd check it out again on a special occasion.

We booked Victor Steakhouse during our recent trip to Vancouver, and my now fiance planned to take me there to celebrate our proposal and noted this in our reservation. Despite arriving on time, we were made to wait while empty tables sat unused, then seated in a cramped corner beside a loud table of 20 who clearly mattered more. Service was slow and dismissive. Drinks took a long time to arrive; the server even commented on the delay without apologizing. Our seating became a storage area for another table's boxed takeout, stacked behind my chair so I physically couldn't move it. Meanwhile, staff conducted a full photo shoot for the large "business-class" table behind us, making it obvious exactly who was valued. Food was equally disappointing. The risotto, recommended by the server, arrived as a watery, inedible mess. No one checked in for a long stretch, and when we asked for an alternative menu, it was taken away before we could order. The bill was dropped shortly after, no recovery, no care, just a push to leave. The "special occasion" note was only acknowledged at payment. They did nothing to make our proposal special or even mention it, even though my fiancé reached out to let them know that he was bringing me to dinner to celebrate this evening. The message was unmistakable: if you're not dressed up or part of a flashy group, you're invisible. To cap it off, my fiancé politely said goodbye to the host multiple times while leaving and was blatantly ignored. Cold, careless, and classist. If you're celebrating something meaningful, go elsewhere.

Came here with a friend to try their Dine Out menu. They serve warm cheese & onion bread with whipped butter as a pre-appetizer. Very yummy and we were able to get a free refill. For appetizers, we had the nobu style hamachi and beef tartare. The hamachi was really good. The yuzu ponzu was so good I wanted to slurp it up. Not spicy, but personally, the jalapeno detracted from the flavour of the fish so I took it off. The beef tartare tasted like a cheeseburger lol! I really liked that about it actually. Rich and delicious For the main, I got the peppercorn steak and my friend got the salmon. The steak had a nice sear and the carrots were so sweet and delicious. The sauce was just okay -- the peppercorns were getting to be a bit too much for me. I tried a bit of my friend's salmon and got envious! It was so good, I wish I ordered that instead. For desserts we tried both the chocolate peanut butter crunch cake and the Menke's cake. The chocolate peanut butter crunch cake tasted like some sort of chocolate bar? However, it was Very rich and was getting to be a bit much. The Menke's cake was perfect. Cake itself was nice and light, and the flavours were light and fresh. Really delicious. Overall, had a really good experience BUT.. Note that the servers will ask you what type of water you want.. make sure to ask if it has a cost before ordering... my friend paid $8.50 for water..... Ambiance was fancy and dark. Outside the restaurant is a beautiful pond.

@jfoodreviews here If you want to impress a date, or have spectacular service? Do check out The Victor! They have on offer a delicious pre-set menu on Sundays called "The spoils of Sunday" Inclusive for the main is a 12oz prime rib, brussel sprouts, and mash potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding. You have an option for the starter between Caesar salad, Lobster bisque or, Avocado crunchy roll Prices as of sept 2024 $68 for the steak, lobster bisque, and creme brûlée dessert $26 waygu carpaccio The service is absolutely top notch, the constant filling of water, changing of plates, and checking in on you is just the perfect amount. In terms of food, everything is what I expected it to be. Cooked perfectly, and a large portion of food! One subtle comment I have is the steak did not come with a side of horse radish or wasabi. Normally I do like to pair my steak with such to give it a different flavour. I'm fairly certain if you request for it, the host can provide as they have a wet bar serving sushi

I saw a few reviews mentioning that it's expensive, but it's a steakhouse, if those prices aren't in your budget, don't go to a steakhouse. For the quality of the steak, the atmosphere, and the service, I found the prices to be fair. I would definitely recommend this place.

From the gold railings to coat check to a piano on the stairs to an old school oyster bar showcasing their wares proudly on display, Joe Fortes has a lot going on for it. But perhaps more so than anything else is an amazing happy hour for anyone who loves oysters. Service Before diving into the food let's talk about service. The servers here are dressed in the old full whites with black ties and give you full service. They have an expert knowledge of the menu and are willing to give you any and all opinions if asked. They check on you frequently and make sure you're having a good time with enough banter to make it friendly and welcomed. Happy Hour - Alcohol With that out of the way, we can talk about the happy hour. Yes, they have a great deal when it comes to their house red and white wines where you can get 6 oz for $6 CAD or 9 oz for $9 CAD. Their beers range from $5 CAD to $8 CAD and their cocktails are all under $10 CAD. Happy Hour - Food They have some incredible truffle fries, cut thick and sprinkled with parmesan as delicate as snow for $9 CAD. Their crab & corn fritters are slightly chewy but packed with flavor and come at $12 CAD. The coconut prawns sound just as delicious as they taste and come at $13 CAD. I would avoid the Steelhead ceviche though as it was more mashed avocado than ceviche. However, HOWEVER, the star of the show are their oysters. Coming at $1.75 an oyster, you get to be as gluttonous as you'd like whilst keeping your pockets happy. Vancouver is known for their amazing seafood and with this happy hour from 3 PM - 5 PM it gives you 2 hours to fill your belly with as many oysters as you can. Even if you ordered 50 oysters you would be under $90 CAD. I should know, I did that. Last Thoughts Even without the incredible happy hour Joe Fortes would be a restaurant you have to visit during your trip to Vancouver. With a great selection of food on their menu, wait staff that feel old world and professional, and a setting fit for the city, the happy hour is just the bonus that makes visiting Joe Fortes even more enticing. Come with an appetite, leave with a smile.

That was some really good cheese bread. Now, on to the main entree's: my boyfriend settled for the 22oz porterhouse steak medium rare (drooling), while I humbly ordered the steak & lobster; best of land and sea as described on their menu. Their Canadian Prime Filet Mignon served with a broiled Atlantic lobster tail and lemon butter!!! My boyfriends porterhouse was made to perfection he paired It with classic French fries. My steak was made well but lacked a little flavor. I like my steak medium rare however, my steak was a tad bit over cooked. My lobster was good but I've definitely had better. The butter was a nice touch as it should and honestly speaking It lacked salt, food with out a hint of salt is just bland. My entree came with mashed potatoes, they were fluffy and tasty. They have been around for a very long time, and I think their prestige is quite hard to match. It's not a trendy restaurant but rather, more of a sophisticated traditional setting. I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday, and since it was his first time trying Hy's, we had to go down the route of ordering all the classics. Our server, Dan, was phenomenal. He was funny and candid throughout the meal and did a great job preparing the tableside Caesar salad and beef tartare. Both dishes contained similar ingredients but tasted unique on their own. The way the ingredients interact brings various sweet, salty, and tart flavour profiles that dance together splendidly in your mouth. Since all the ingredients are eyeballed, no two dishes taste the same, and there is beauty in that, as you get something authentically different every single time. Cheese bread was a must - an absolute classic. Soft, delicious, and cheesy every single time. For mains, we decided to share the porterhouse. Being a small eater when it comes to steaks, I figured 22oz was going to be enough paired with mash and a side of candied carrots. The steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. My boyfriend does not enjoy vegetables, but surprisingly liked the carrots. The service was extremely smooth, with food arriving quite quickly and regular check-ins from Dan. For dessert, we opted for the Belgian chocolate bourbon cake. It was rich, decadent and quite sweet. We took our time with the dessert as my boyfriend dusted off his second drink and designated me as the driver for the night. Overall, it was a seamless experience, but most importantly, it managed to satisfy my meat snob boyfriend on his birthday. Hy's did a great job taking care of us, and although I do not live in the tax bracket that allows me to come here regularly, it makes a wonderful treat every once in a while.

This was the 2nd keg I visited and I can say honestly no keg is made equal. This location visually…read morelooked great but the food quality did not compare to what I experienced in Toronto. The restaurant was modern and had an interesting layout. I ordered crab legs, clam chowder, and a baked potato. After hearing about how fresh the seafood was on the west coast I was so excited to experience it. The clam chowder was delicious and full of flavor. The crab legs were unfortunately overcooked and half the portion size compared to what I received in Toronto. Our server was sweet and answered all questions! Overall it was good but not my favorite.

This was such an amazing experience. My husband and I were…read morein town for work from the US, and we brought our 11 week old with us for early dinner reservations. The baby was a tiny bit fussy and we felt so bad- the team here was SO kind and patient...and actually reminded us that being out to dinner is worth enjoying...even with a baby. Max came by and bought our first round of drinks, congratulating us on our baby. Amy was amazing, SO attentive of my gluten free needs and she was so terrific with her service. The food was wonderful- great atmosphere- truly a really wonderful experience. Thank you for being so kind to new parents who wanted a nice 'date night' - it was really really special

Food, delicious! Our excellent server Manoel suggested the Happy Hour Menu. And suggested non-alcoholic beverages. It all was perfect. And scrumptious. The goat cheese and mushrooms dip was yummy. Beef rolls crispy. Steak and fries excellent. Shrimp tasty. Loved the decor too. From the moment we walked in, we loved the vibe. Hostesses, awesome. Manoel, awesome. Decor, awesome. Awe, awe, awe, awesome! Go to Chop Steakhouse on Sea Walk if you visit Vancouver!
