I've been coming here for almost a year and they are awesome! I get ombre acrylics and Tiffany is amazing. I've also had regular fills with gel polish and I've never had a lift or crack. This place is horrible and I will never go back! First I went for a fill, where the gel polish immediately started to chip away. Next, my thumb nails were two different sizes. Lastly, I made the mistake of going back to have my set taken off, because they were so chipped and one even broke off. When I asked for them to be removed, they tossed me around and the one who finally agreed to do it was very rough with my nails! She used clippers to pull them off without soaking my nails first. Will not be coming back to this business, they advertise that walk-ins are welcome, but the woman who received me, I believe her name is Tiffany, COMPLETELY dismissed me. All I asked was for a pedicure and she rudely responded "No we can't take you." She didn't ask me to wait 15 minutes or anything, this was at 5, and the business doesn't close until 7. I USED to LOVE this place. I actually raved about it to all my friends and family, but I have been twice in the past two months and was disappointed both times. The first time I got a spa pedicure and it was alright but I had asked for flowers and didn't receive them. I felt like I was just being ignored. The second time, which was a week ago is the main reason for this review. I had gone for a pedicure and gel manicure for my baby shower and was pleased at first. But then after only a week my GEL nails were chipping and pulling around the edges!!! Just trying to put my hair up was hard because my hair would get caught around where it was coming up!! I am so disappointed that i paid extra for gel nails and they chipped sooner than regular nail polish would have! Time to find a new place I suppose. read more

I've been coming to Mimi's for 5 years. I get the same thing every time. Gel polish for toes and nails. They are great about last min appts (id just call ahead of time to save your self a drive Incase they are too busy). I work in A hair salon so I understand that booking last minute appointments can sometimes be frustrating and or difficult. But I never mind having to come back and hour later or so. Also with working in a salon my nails are constantly and water, the nail shop is the only place that gets my nails to actually last the full two weeks. I have been here a handful of times and they have always done a great job. Today I brought my 2 yo daughter for her first pedicure (don't judge me) and they did such a good job with her! They don't have one of those little kid pedicure chairs, but she sat on my lap and the lady went really fast to get the color on her toes. Speed and precision are necessary with a 2 year old! My regular pedicure and my daughter's mini pedi cost $20 (pre-tip)...I don't even think they charged me for the mini pedi because a regular pedi usually costs me $20. I would not recommend seeing the owner, Mimi. I would have preferred to stay home and not wasted my time being talked to so poorly. Mimi talked to me as if I murdered her son. I smiled in the salon to everyone, no one greets me or says anything such as we will be with your shortly, they just asked what are you here for. Then when I came over I took out several bottles to ask how I could remove the nail polish that was on the bottles. I told her none of the bottle tops were loose but that this manicurist always does this. She said maybe it's the metal when I had a nail kit with my professional tools, was completely plastic. Then she said "Use Acetone, I don't know why it's happening." Then she said "You have a store full of nail polishes, which one are we using. I had brought out 3 or 4 bottles to show how it got on all of them, one Nailtique, 1 top coat and 2 colors. She wasn't near to putting nail polish on, she hadn't even started or ask me about the tools I bought.. When I put the 1 color bottle out with Nailtique and top coat that are all mine, she still was complaining about it as if she hadn't heard me say these 3. I am not her daughter or son that she can just go off or something that doesn't even matter. I am a customer. I could've come in after that if I was treated correctly. I was there to relax since I have a very stressful job. So I got up and told her this is working for me. She said It's a communication issue. Yeah, you are communicating in a way this is completely inappropriate. I don't understand how all this asian manicurists can come to America and get trained on how to do nails but never get trained on how to have good communication skills. They don't know how to apologize or how to correct something that is upsetting a customer. When I asked who the owner was, Mimi said it's me but none of the other employees say anything when I'm talking to them. Looks like there are other similar complaints (Erika T on 9/12/16) a few days ago. Maybe Mimi needs something for PMS or something for her attitude like antidepressants. read more

PRECISION, is why. I can't seem to find an "all around" good gel place in Santee. This place is so close and convenient, I was hoping it would pan out. Relaxing atmosphere. Tiffany took me right away on a sat morning, but I hear there's usually a wait. She seemed abrupt and short at first but warmed-up fast. Not surfacy cheery, like most salon gals. No BS, sharp and had a great command of her English, which helps me considerably when communicating my wishes. PROS: 1. Complete (French) set of gel nails in ~1hour. Gels/shelacs are a slow process, so I was elated. 2. Perfectly filed nails with concise paint lines and even coats. I've never had such precision on a manicure, ever. She has a steady hand and knows her stuff. CONS: None. Maybe the price. French costs more so I guess $30 (plus a $6 tip) = $36 isn't that insane, but I've paid $26 - $30 Total for a 2 hour fiasco and a crap manicure to show for it, so I'm thrilled. Glad I ventured out to Mimi's! Will obviously go back. read more

I decided to try out this nail salon because I saw a lot of good reviews for it on yelp. The shop was kind of difficult to get to if you do not know the area that well. I wanted to get 2 different nail designs but the lady informed me she couldn't do either one so I decided to get a basic pink and white design. She finished doing my nails very fast and it seemed as if she was doing a sloppy job. My thumb nail broke on the third day. I would not recommend this shop to anyone else. Worse place, horrible customer service! Got a pedicure and looked at the finished result and my nail still had ridges w tint of black!! She told me, oh your nail is just like that!! Um no it's. I wore some black shoes without socks and it had come of on my nail, you need to buff it, it still has ridges w the black!! She told me she couldn't fix it so I told her to re buff it since she buffed each nail one second!! So she does and oh my goodness the ridges and black came off!!!! um yeah so much for my nails are just like that!! She had a bad attitude and was mad I called her out. I recently moved to Costa Mesa from AZ and needed to find a new/cheap nail place so I could get my Mani done before my Graduation. I found this place online and walked-in. They were able to assist me right away and She did an amazing job. They came out just how I envisioned them. I got a gel french Mani with glitter with a great neck massage for the price of $30!!! So East County area is not exactly known for having the best nail salons. I was tired of going to my normal chop shops & I wanted a legit set of stiletto nails. I found this place on Yelp and I'm glad I went in. Natalie has done my last 5 sets of nails and I love them every time. She will do any designs/styles/jewels that I want. She's also SUPER fast. She just did my newest full set of stiletto nails in a little under an hour. And I like my nails POINTY, so she takes the time out to shape them how I want them. I've never had a problem with jewels or nails popping off. My sets usually last about 3 weeks! I will def be going to this salon for as long as I live in East County. Also, this place is small, but they make you feel at home. I always have a conversation with Natalie when I go, I'm never ignored and she never talks on the phone while she's doing my nails - like a lot of other places do. I went to Mimi's yesterday for the first time. I was barely in the door before they wanted to know what color I wanted for my nails and toes - literally before I had even been able to locate the nail color options. I asked if I could look first, and they said ok but seemed in a rush to get me started (even though there was no one else there). Their nail color selection is average. It took a while to finish my pedicure and gel manicure, so I wouldn't recommend this salon if you are looking to get your nails done within the hour. I was there for over an hour and a half, which was longer then I expected, so it wasn't until I got home that I noticed there was still paint on my fingers (around the nail) and one of my nails has small bubbles. It's not enough to sit through another hour plus to get it fixed, but it's annoying. I would also say that if you are sensitive about your nails, and specifically around your cuticles, don't go here. She cut my cuticles really short to the point that I needed to check several times if I was bleeding (thankfully I was only once). So in the end, I would say this salon is average. Nothing fancy, but a good solid option for a mani/pedi. read more

This is, by far, the best nail salon I have ever been to. It is small, but the women there know how to treat you well. They have great customer service, and they know how to do their jobs well! I came in for a gell mani and regular pedi. Vivian did the best job, not only with careful painting, but she was precise, gentle, but not too gentle with the leg massage, and she never once hurt me when filing.
