I want to start by saying that my review would be a 2.5-2.7 if those options were available to me. But there was nothing so egregious about the experience to mark it as a 2, so I rounded up to a 3 star. This was my second time back post-Covid. The first time, we ended up not being seated as they wanted to put us next to a large table of very loud women that had just come from church. They were all so loud and rude, like they had never learned how to use their "inside" voices when others were around. After looking at the faces of other diners in that section who were already clearly annoyed as well, we asked to be sat on the 17th Street side of the restaurant, not the side that is closer to the Cooking Lab next door. We were told that it would be a 30-40-minute wait to sit on that side because they were short staffed. So, we walked out to try again another day. Seems like them being short staffed is a common theme in a lot of the reviews, especially since 2022. I would think that they have had 2 years to fix that. Back to today, got seated, again not on the 17th Street side, but it was much quieter and reasonable today. Got there before the church crowds. Restaurant was clean, staff greeted us and got us coffees and waters right away. Decent selection on the breakfast menu and prices were reasonable. I had the bacon, mushroom and brie omelet with crispy potatoes and a blueberry muffin. My wife had the corned beef hash, crispy potatoes, toast, and over easy eggs. Please see the photos that I took for reference. What I did not like about my breakfast was that the omelet sounded amazing on the menu. When I got it, the spinach was part of the omelet, the mushrooms were folded inside, but the 2 small bacon and the brie was only laid on the top. It wasn't really a part of the omelet. The bacon should have been crumbled up and either in the eggs themselves or inside the fold. And the brie was absolutely laughable. Two super tiny slices laid on top, none on the inside. Can you spare it? And overall, it was like there was literally no flavor to the omelet. Would it kill you to use a little seasoning? Potatoes were ok, but no seasoning. Blueberry muffin was good but microwaved to make it warm. It gave it a spongy, balloon type texture, not crumbly like you would expect a muffin to be. The toast had no butter on it and was ice-cold. The server did a good job of replacing it when we informed them, but again, no butter on it. Most places you have to ask for it dry if you want it that way. Here it seems to be the default. The corned beef hash was a good quality, but it also was cold. The over-easy eggs were spot on though. It appeared they didn't get everything on the plate at the same time before serving. They made the toast first, waited 5 minutes to put the corned beef hash on the plate, waited 5 more minutes for the potatoes to be done and then remembered to put the eggs on at the last minute. Very disjointed and not cohesive. Some warm, some cold. It seems that Mimi's has really fallen down on the overall dining quality from their glory days of being a great place to go. Super sorry to hear that as I had always considered them to be wonderful choice. But it seems that a lot of other reviewers feel the same way, just look at the ratings. Hopefully they can steer the ship back into smooth waters and make a concerted effort to be a terrific experience for diners again. Hope this helps. read more

We come here on Saturdays after hula practice, because damnit, I earned the right to eat the whole damn, delicious Carrot Raisin Muffin! Omg what happened to the glory days of Mimi's Cafe? We decided to go there last night after several years. I remember the days you had to wait in long lines to be seated. Unfortunately it's not at all what it used to be. We ordered the 1/2 roasted chicken which was dry and lime rubber. It was served with soggy overcooked broccoli and string beans. I ordered a side petite salad to go with it and after explaining which salad dressing I wanted the server forgot to bring it all together. We also had the beef French dip sandwich. Sadly the aujus dipping sauce was just way too salty to enjoy. Another observation about the ambiance was how brightly lit the restaurant was. I asked the server why it was so bright almost giving me a headache and she just agreed with me and changed the subject. I'm sad to write such a negative review about what was once an enjoyable place to dine but management needs to know what the public is thinking in order to take appropriate action to improve or just close it up. read more

Mimi's leveled up long ago. This place used to just be an OK place to get some straight forward cafe style food. The offerings have improved over the years. I used to just play it safe and order a French Dip. Last month I tried the Smoked Salmon, and found myself, who would have thought, pleasantly surprised. Each bite of salmon contained the same splendor of flavors. I must emphasize that the fish itself is the jewel of the dish. The three eggs were just alright. They were properly cooked but not remarkably fluffy or seasoned in any perceptible way. Would that were more cloud-like in shape and texture. I don't recollect touching the potatoes. The salmon simply tasted far too good, and I could not possibly risk diluting the fishy, meaty nuances of the exquisite salmon. Not to say the potatoes were bad; they could not outshine the seafood though. The only other notable aspect of the experience was a painting in the dining area. It depicts a pajama clad man in the middle of a party or dining area who appears to be fanning himself with a giant feather fan. A lack of details in the fan interested me. The fan resembles a cloud of smoke rather than the feather fan. So the man appears somewhat obscured by the fan. I wonder why the artist did not paint a smidgen more detail into the feather fan. I recommend the salmon here--literally. Well worth the wait and the taxing stare into the confusing painting of the fan holding the fan, smoke, er, cloud of whatever. read more

I have never been disappointed in a Mimi's Cafe before. This was our first time at this location. Not only was it outdated and dirty especially the restrooms which looked like gas station restrooms, the food was so very disappointing. I would recommend Mimi's however definitely not this one. Our server was fantastic! Took separate checks. She was efficient and definitely refilled our water cups. She had a great attitude and was friendly. As soon as the food was ready, she'd bring it out. It was a group of made up of about 16. We went late around 9pm. I ordered the turkey pesto ciabatta sandwich with fries. I took some left overs home with me to enjoy for the next day. Then Mimi's is the place for you! Tonight sat at the bar and was highly entertained by Rachel, the wise-ass bartender. She's got a pretty good schtick of giving the regulars a hard time. I had the Three Cheese toasted cheese sandwich (add bacon of course) and a cup of the Tomato Basil soup. It was actually really good, I guess I shouldn't sound surprised but I was. They have really good bacon. The soup was perfect for tonight's "why the hell is it so frickin cold and windy I thought we lived in Southern California and I should probably buy a jacket at some point but it will be back to 70 degrees tomorrow so I think I'll live" weather. I've never paid so much, for so little. Two kids meal breakfasts, an adult salad and an adult chicken and waffles, two cups of joe, $68 before tip, so that's $80. EIGHTY. But wait, it gets better... The regular coffees were $3+ each. I guess. Runaway inflation and all. The kids meals were $10 each, and for that $10 you get one small juice, one bacon slice, one scrambled egg, one slice of French toast which would be so sad looking on the plate all alone, so they cut it into strips and "stack" it so it's taller. What does one slice of bread, one egg, one slice of bacon and a kids apple juice cost? Like, $1? $2? If they need $8 to cover all their other costs they're doing something wrong. The other $10 kids meal was a kids lemonade and a bowl of Mac and Cheese with broccoli, but it came out still in the boil or microwave bag they make it in. So they took it back so they could take it out of the bag and dump into the bowl. $10. For that. The salad was a salad. My chicken and waffles...wow. Waffle was okay. Chicken was so dry and too tough to cut with a knife so I had to eat it with my hands and tear it with my teeth to bite size pieces. When we got there, we stood for about 5 mins at the hostess stand. Many many employees walked past us and not one said, "Someone will be with you soon." Eventually someone came and got us. The ONLY reason they didn't get one star was that our waitress was good. I've been coming to Mimi's since I was a kid but this last time was sadly my last. We came on a Sunday, which places like Mimi's tend to be busier. We were a party of 6 and were sat in the back room with another party of at least 14 people. It was about 30 mins before the waiter came to take our order and another 45 minutes for the food to come out. In the mean time, we asked another waiter for water. He told us he couldn't get it for us but would tell our waiter...no waters ever came. We watched someone else we know arrive 10-20 minutes after us, order, get their food, and finish before our food even came! I felt bad for our waiter. He was running around and seemed like he needed help but there was no one to help. I don't know if the restaurant was understaffed but it was odd how long it took for our food to come. Definitely was not the best experience. I think the most frustrating thing was the lack of attentiveness and how long the food took to come out. read more

I always have a good experience when I come here but it depends on what you are expecting out of your meal. Hence the mixed reviews. This review is based on a Sunday brunch. First of all, five stars for the always short wait for this restaurant. It's not because it isn't popular, there are always a ton of people here. I think it is because they have plenty of tables so there is a constant flow of diners moving in and out. I am so tired of having to wait 2 hours for sub-par and overly priced breakfast foods at most places. And other places, my options are limited to either overly fattening overly sweetened carby meals or tasteless healthier omelettes that I could easily make at home. So Mimi's gets five stars for the variety in their menu. Mostly because they have crepes!! This is my favorite brunch meal because it does have some carbs, but not too much, so I am usually nice and full after my meal (doesn't happen with an egg white omelette often) and I love the flavor of all crepes, savory or sweet! A nice surprise at this location was that while you are waiting to be seated there was complimentary cake and orange juice! The orange juice was super watery but the cake was delicious. I LOVE Mimi's. It's been one of my favorite restaurants for years. I use to go every singe week. But lately Mimi's has been a huge disappointment. This location is my favorite of them all typically but even my visit to this location wasn't good. Our server was fantastic. I don't want her to take a hit for these complaints as they are not her fault. My salad was literally watery. Like they washed the lettuce and didn't drain it or spin it or let it dry or whatever they usually do. It was so watery that the ranch dressing was almost clear and there was liquid below my salad. Usually this is the best salad ever. I have eaten it thousands of times! As of the past few years Mimi's keeps raising their prices, making their portions smaller and has taken some of their most popular items off the menu and it's extremely disappointing. I typically would give them 5 stars but I just went in and ordered the same thing I always order. The Cobb Salad. It was always $11.99 and it included a muffin... well not anymore! They upped their prices! AGAIN!!!!!! The last few times I went my salad was $13.50 and it didn't include a muffin... that's another $2.50. So what I have always gotten for $11.99 is now $16!!! That's a huge jump in prices! Now it's almost $15 and the salad is TINY! Such a joke. $15 for a salad and still hungry after. So now what they served for $11.99 is now almost $18 (if I want a muffin too). Then I went to order my (and everyone else's) all time favorite muffin, the Bran muffin and surprise surprise, they discontinued it, AGAIN! (The Yorba Linda location started carrying them again, now sure if all locations did) Such a joke! Mimi's is going downhill fast. I had breakfast at the 17th St, Tustin, cafe on Monday, and ordered 2 poached eggs with corned beef hash and toast. The corned beef hash was burned to a crisp, dry and tasteless. The poached eggs were overcooked, and the toast wasn't even buttered. I didn't mention anything because you never upset the wait staff. I went to talk with the manager at the front desk and waited a few minutes but no one showed up so I left. The service was good, not fantastic, as you would expect, but hey.... that's how service providers work these days. We have a Mimi's near us in Arizona that we never go to because it's not very clean and the service is lousy, but since we were visiting Anaheim we decided to give this one a try.
