I used to love this place. However, lately, I've been thoroughly disappointed. The bacon is see-through. I repeat, see through. That means, the quality is extremely poor. Bacon should not be 99% fat. It should have actual meat along with fat. Since I am only interested in this place for breakfast, there's really no need for me to keep it in my rotation. Pancakes are decent, but it's probably more for vegetarians. Mimis in Downey.......Step your game up and invest in better quality bacon. Let's not serve see through bacon. read more

Myself & friend arrived for a light meal. I ordered the French Onion Soup and my friend ordered the Cream Corn Soup. Both soups arrived lukewarm & mine also lacked cheese, it's was a small dollop on a very small sliced piece of bread. Waitress returned our soups hot, however my French Onion Soup had a partially melted slice of cheese on top with no color so it was just reheated & then cheese placed on top. I didn't even take a photo as I was astonished that the soup did have any pieces of caramelized onion in it & the liquid had a brownish color, it was terribly salty. It kills me to leave this review, but this is the second time this has happened to me, and I'm not going to try for #3. Today is New Year's Eve, and my family & I were not in the mood to eat in a noisy, crowded restaurant, so we all agreed on takeout, and we decided to give Mimi's a shot. Last year, they messed up an online order because they didn't see the order come in (they said online orders don't show up on their monitors, they show up on another terminal). Since it was last year, I figured that glitch was addressed. It was not. I showed up at the confirmed time to pick up my meals (5) and I was given the same excuse regarding the computers and online orders. Needless to say, I was absolutely floored. No dinners for NYE! I was offered a muffin to make up for the mistake. I very politely but angrily said "The muffin better be huge because I have to feed FIVE HUNGRY ADULTS!!" I refused and asked for a refund. It is truly a shame that they are losing longtime customers due to a lack of basic preparation. A tip: have your terminal on the floor instead of your upstairs office so all orders are received. read more

I haven't been to Mimi's in a couple years and the last time I did it was at this location. I haven't returned because I wasn't happy with the food or service. Again this is the same issue. I want to stress that I love Mimis cafe. I have been to other locations and have had the best experience. My husband and I decided to come here last Monday. We walked in and were seated immediately. We looked around the restaurant and there were quite a few families. The family in front of us were angry. They were saying how they had been waiting to long. 15 minutes after we sat down the waitress comes by to ask if we want waters. I ordered the mimis meatloaf and an orange juice. My hubby ordered the steak and eggs. Another 40 mins went by when we finally received our food and I was disappointed. My meatloaf was burnt and it wasn't just small burnt pieces. The whole meatloaf tasted burnt. It looked like the cook had just tried to scrap off the burnt parts and served it like that. The potatoes were okay and my broccoli was cold. The orange juice was good. My hubby's food was mediocre. When we finished we immediately asked for receipt and the bread pudding. To get our receipt it took another 20 mins. I understand that there is job shortages and everyone is hiring but there was only one waitress running from table to table trying to get everyone's orders. I didn't want to rate this place low but the food was a huge disappointment. The waitress was nice but honestly don't have the restaurant busy with just one waitress. I understand trying to make businesses stay afloat but it won't do you much if you are losing employees because they are overworked. I'd give it another chance but I don't think this location. I'm so confused. The Mimis in Chino is really good. This Mimis in Downey really needs lots of work. The place was almost empty still we waited 20 min to get a table. This place was once really nice. Now it's paint is chipped worn and dingy looking. Service was good. But the food was horrible How can 2 restaurants in the same chain be drastically different ? Pot Roast was horrible. Bought a Groupon For the restaurant. Mimi's café said they would not honor it. Basically told me I was a scammer. This company/corporation obviously does not know how to take care of the customer. Even the corporate level manager told me it was my problem for shopping on Groupon. Maybe they were trying to do this for free advertisement???
