I was fiercely craving a chili burger and fries today so I did a search for local eateries that have them and I ran across place, the pictures were what caught my attention but I was sold on the reviews! We were a party of 6 and had planned to eat there but they only have outdoor dining and it is a rainy day so we took the food home. I had the chili cheeseburger and chili cheese fries, they were both delicious and hit the spot perfectly! Everyone was made fresh and They gave us the yellow chilies which went well with the grub! This place has some of the best ANGUS SMASH STYLE BURGERS in town. Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion on a brioche bun. Added bacon to my burger for some added flavor with a side of crinkle cut seasoned fries. Staff is friendly. Small outdoor dining space with a few stools and some countertop space. This has been a favorite of ours for years, but recent times have seen quality decline a bit. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, one of the best burgers in town. But knowing what it used to be... and knowing that this will be one of my last chances to eat there for awhile (we're moving to Europe next month) makes it a little harder. First the bad: the Rio is my usual favorite. Tonight, my burger was so overcooked and just dry as the Sahara. The wings had odd places where I had to spit out the dry, overcooked bits. Overall, the wings were great - sweet Thai chile - but what were these weird dry spots? And really, shredded lettuce is terrible. Put a nice leaf of lettuce, or don't put any on there at all. Now the good: the meat is very good quality, and has good, beefy flavor. The wings that didn't have the weird crusty dry spots were very well cooked, succulent, and that sweet That chile sauce is so money. The staff is very nice, polite, and organized. The prices are in line with what you'd expect to pay for a better quality burger. And you can let them know if you want customization - or you can just go with Grub style (their sauce) or backyard style (mustard and ketchup). Overall, Grub is a pretty reliable meal spot, better than average by quite a distance. But please - don't smash the smash burgers so hard and so many times! Visited for the first time today and ordered the Harvey burger. Felt like the in-n-out animal style burger but bigger and better. It's cooked well-done but still juicy and delicious. The actual restaurant has no indoor space so you can't walk into it, you order at the counter outside and wait for your food. There are few seats outside where you can eat if you want to, but the vibe is that this is a takeout type or restaurant. The staff are friendly and the service was amazing, I'm actually blown away by how great the experience was. I paid $15 for my entire meal (fries + burger + drink) which I thought is a steal in LA (especially considering how good the food is). On to my search for the best burger in Socal. Stopped by on a hot Sunday afternoon here. It looks like a stand from the outside; there is an outdoor seating area, but there are only a few spots. So this is more like a grab-and-go spot. From a quick glance at the menu, you can get a burger smashed style or regular style, the latter of which is offered with different toppings. You can also get wings here, too. Angus beef patties are also offered here, but as an upgrade. I ordered the smash burger "grub" style with their special spread (it's very similar to thousand island dressing). Got some fries and a drink as a combo. There are no fountain drinks here, so you'll get your drink in a can. So here are my thoughts on the food: - Smash Burger - 6.7/10: Solid smashburger. Not too fancy and overseasoned. I liked the brioche bread as it wasn't too dense. Patty taste was pretty good, although not spectacular and could've been crisped better at the ends. Their spread didn't add too much to it. Just a solid burger, though. - Fries - 5/10: crinkle cut style. I think they could use an upgrading to these fries. They're seasoned well, but they're fried unevenly. I suspect they might be frozen. So yeah, this is a solid spot for a burger. Everything is clean, well organized, and the owner took some time on look and branding. Very friendly looking spot. I'm updating my review because now I'm really upset. We placed a phone order at 6:38pm and were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. We showed up right on time and still didn't get our food until 7:24pm. We've been here before and know it can take a while, which is exactly why we ordered ahead. Clearly, that didn't help. While we were waiting, one of the staff members or maybe the manager apologized to my husband and said the delay was because we ordered our wings extra crispy. That explanation might've made sense... if the wings were actually crispy. But they weren't. At all. Not even close. The audacity to blame the delay on our request and then not even follow through with what we asked for? Completely frustrating. The fries weren't my favorites and had a little too much seasoning but I still ate some of them. Lol The service was okay. The person at the window seemed annoying which can be a little off putting but whatever, I understand having off days. So hopefully that's all it was. The food does take a while here. Everything was really good and great price and nice staff. The only suggestion I would have is turn the music off because that kind employee has to sit there and listen to that loud music all day. Also, their hearing may sustain irreversible damage as a result of having to hear to that loud volume all day long. We have always passed this spot. Today we decided to stop by for the first time. The sun was shinning with a light fresh breeze, so we ate there in the patio with music playing in the background. I had the Blt, it was totally fresh bacon, tomate, lettce and spread on sourdough with fries. My husband had the rio burger with avacado, lettice, tomato and bacon and fries on the side. This place has really good hamburger and fries options. It's a small menu and so easy for them to get perfect every time and for people to work their way through their menu and find a favorite. The only problem is good luck being able to call in to place an order. They seem to have only one line and it's always busy during dinner time. My friends and I have tried ordering sever times only to give up and ordering from somewhere else, this is with us being patient trying to get through for 30min. I'd suggest having a plan b for dinner, call once or twice and if you get through great! Otherwise go for your plan b after you've grown tired of trying to call in.
