I have been dying to try this place for a while, but could never convince my husband to take me. As luck would have it, we went to a concert over the weekend and decided to find food somewhere between the venue and our house on our way back home. The food did NOT disappoint!! The dining room was pretty empty but I was eyeballing the patio section (cuz I WILL be coming back)! Plenty of parking, beer selection & inside/outside seating. Smoked Brisket Fries -- the brisket itself had good flavor along with the bbq sauce. It was super tender and moist. They barely put any cheese on the fries, which was a bummer. The fries themselves were so hard they had a crunch and felt like chips that I ended up leaving most of them. Pretzel -- soooo delicious, soft and fluffy. The cheese has really good flavor it just hardens really quickly so make sure to eat first. Texas Beef Brisket Grilled Cheese -- this was a win. We waited a very long time and was confused why as there weren't many customers. When I went to the back counter to see what's going on, I saw my order sitting there, opened with no cover. I waited another 5 minutes and that's when they buzzed our buzzer, which is when they started packing our to-go order. Somehow they messed up the BYO bowl order but for whatever reason no one was working. The service definitely could've been better. 3 jumbo chicken tender: Not the same anymore... !!! My family and I used to love their chicken tenders but it's not the same anymore!! This is the second time we felt this way. The meat had a nice bark, the meat is pull apart tender and the flavor is perfect. Sliced pickles coleslaw and a couple of slices of toasted bread are served on the side. The Mac and cheese is creamy. My daughter's chicken sandwich is spicy. I tried a bite and the heat was present but not over powering. The spice level was perfect for a medium. The waffle fries were good and served with a side of ranch. The smash burger was really cheesy. The melted cheese with the crispy meat patty was outstanding. I was really surprised and impressed that 3 very different meals were all executed perfectly. A smoked meat, a fried chicken breast and a flat top grilled beef patty. Bravo to the kitchen staff. My husband and I are new to the area and my cousin recommended Smoke and Fire. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by one of the nicest host/cashiers, Ms. Judith. She was so kind and offered great recommendations since it was our first visit. We already knew we wanted brisket, but we were pleasantly surprised to see a smash burger on the menu (our absolute favorite type of burger). We ended up ordering the smash burger and the brisket plate. Since that first visit, we've come back and ordered the exact same thing because it was just that good. The smash burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly for us. It wasn't greasy, and the soft buns made it even better. The brisket was super tender and smoky, and when paired with their BBQ sauce, it was absolutely delicious. Even the slaw that came with it was surprisingly good, and not every place gets slaw right. The dining area is spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great spot for groups, dates, or even a casual meal alone. They also have a wide variety of beers on tap. (I don't drink, so I can't say much more than that, but the selection looked impressive.) Parking is available, though the lot is shared with other restaurants. Came here for lunch and there were only two people working in the entire place and they were so busy with to go orders that it took a little over 10 minutes for someone to come take our order. I know it's not the staffs fault, management needs to either go in themselves or schedule accordingly. To only have two people on shift during a lunch rush is insane. The person that helped us was really nice and very apologetic and also informed us that it would take a little longer to get our food since it was just the two of them but we understood and said it was fine. The fries were so good and they give you a really good portion, I was only able to finish about half of it. Smoked Beef Brisket (6/10): The brisket was not super tender and a little too tough to chew. It did not really have a smoky flavor. The barbecue sauce was decent. The house sauce was not the best; it did not have any special flavor and was a little bland. Overall Thoughts: I don't think that the price of the food is justified by the flavor/taste of the food itself. I think it is just a convenient location for nearby college students, and there's not many barbecue restaurants nearby, so I'll give them that. At the register, they did not have the hot Cheetos Mac n cheese balls, which made me sad because I really wanted to try it. They also told my friends and I that we would be given complementary corn bread, but we never ended up receiving it. The line was not too long, but the service was not the best. The waiters were not that attentive either. They just served the tables and rushed back into the kitchen. I had to stand and wait in front of the kitchen entrance right behind the counter for a while to finally catch a waitress that was coming out. We went there for lunch. We walked in and stood at the register waiting for someone to help us. I asked the woman in front of us, if this is where we were supposed to order and if anyone was there. It was a good five minutes before anyone showed up to take our order. When we finished ordering, we were asked if we wanted to tip. Normally, I don't tip on counter services, but I tipped. When I sat down, I looked at the receipt trying to figure out why the amount was so high. The first thing that I noticed was that when we ordered the waffle fries, we were asked which sauce we wanted, we were charged for the sauce. In addition, there was a service fee. I wasn't happy that I was charged a service fee in addition to being asked to tip. The food was good but I didn't care for the loud music that was playing. Came here for the brisket! Drove here from Torrance to try it out. I got the 1/2 lb sliced brisket ($13) which comes with texas toast, cornbread, curtido slaw, pickles, and bbq sauce. The texas toast was a bit bland, I couldn't even taste the butter. The curtido slaw was really bland too. Corn bread was good and the fries were really good. The smokey house specialty lemonade has charcoal powder in it. It tasted like regular lemonade but a bit denser from the powder. Service was okay as well, They forgot to add the bbq sauce for my friend's brisket. They forgot to serve my fries so I went up to them and they had to double check on their receipt and brought it out 5 minutes after my entree came. They also have 3% service fee included in the sale, and also asks for additional tip when ordering. Interior is very very beautiful, I love the wooden table, it looks so elegant and modern. I didn't think I'd love it bc there was A LOT going on on that sandwich....but it worked remarkably well and I loved it! It's like 3 meals: Brisket, short rib and hamburger. Really well done. The Nashville hot chicken...I loved everything about the sandwich but the slaw. I'm not a fan of black pepper, IMHO such an under developed spice and so many better ways to get a better kick flavor....but the sandwich still held up to the delicious standard. This was our first and last time at this location. I've only gone to the La Habra one, which has since closed due to rent increases. I really liked it because it was one of the few BBQ places with a vegan sandwich and also huge pretzels. The wait time was often long, but the place was very clean and they had a good beer selection while you waited. Maybe this was a fluke and they were just seriously understaffed. We had tried calling repeatedly to confirm there was a vegan option, nobody ever picked up. When we got there, we found out they did have the vegan option, but just a single beer option. For a BBQ place, this seemed odd. They gave us a number to put down on a table. The tables were mostly bussed but not wiped down, and our table already had a number on it but it was so far from ours, we figured they were long gone. When I went back to order additional food, I stood there for over 5 minutes before I just gave up because the cashier disappeared for over 10 minutes. When I went to the bathroom to wash my hands, there was no soap or paper towels in the dispensers. The soap cartridge was there, lying on its side, as was the paper towels. But it took some manipulating to get the soap out, and when the bathroom at a restaurant is dodgy, I don't trust the restaurant itself to be sanitary. When I walked out of the bathroom, the kitchen was straight ahead. I didn't see the cooking surfaces, but the floor had so much food scraps and debris on it. So, perhaps they were understaffed. But going there that one time gave us reasons to never return. There were just too many red flags. read more
