I want to start by saying they're a breakfast spot and I dined at Mimi's Cafe for dinner unplanned (it was raining and I was nearby.) I decided to try their dinner menu since I've enjoyed their breakfast in the past. Well, their dinner is just not it. I don't recommend it. Also, the bathrooms need major maintenance. Even my six year old mentioned how dirty they were. Anyway, would I go back? Yes, only for breakfast and they should really update and clean their restrooms.

Great food and service . Our server Sean was very attentive and pleasant. The great food quality and service is the reason we always return to Mimis Cafe . I have dined at this location for over 25 years and I always have a positive experience. The french onion soup is delicious. All the servers are always outgoing and ready to accommodate my food order if needed . Hold the mayo, etc.. Thank you Mimis for always giving me a pleasant dining experience.

I came here for lunch with a friend. It wasn't too hard to find parking. However, we had to wait for a table since it seems there wasn't too many employees although there were plenty of tables. Service was good although it was a little slow. The seating was a little tight. We ordered the Crab, Shrimp & Bacon Pasta and Chicken Pot Pie. Both were delicious. There was so much pasta that I was stuffed by the time we were done. Very great spot for lunch with great company!

Good value for breakfast. Service is good. Try the buttermilk spice muffin, cut in half and spread butter ooooffffff... soft, buttery and melts in your mouth. Pain Purdue bfast comes w an orange creme French toast w berry toppings; delicious. The orange creme is not overpowering you might not even taste it and this order comes w eggs and a side of protein. The bacon perfect; crunchy but not all over. The ham was thick and juicy everyone's fav right. Ambiance is a French bakery feel. Wait is usually 20 min or less.

So much food to choose from! I love the seasonal menus too. Love the $7 mimosas and the sweet plates for breakfast. Only one thing to point out, some savory dishes may have a little too much salt for me like the salmon and onion soup. Other than that, the place is very cute inside. Love all the French vibes and service was quick and waiter was kind. Parking can be a bit challenging during busy days but doable.

Pot Roast is not the same anymore. It's more like a Vegetable Beef stew with Mashed Potatoes. I guess that's why they are calling it French Pot Roast The Pot Roast used to be served as a big mountain of Beef that would be so tender that you just pull apart with your fork to eat it. But now the meat is almost shredded and drowned in an overflow of Vegetables and dark gravy. Smaller portion of Beef but the price isn't way over the top. It's a 3 course meal for approximately $30 ... The bread is still the BEST thing ever! The flavor of the Beef and gravy is more bland than it used to be. I noticed the crowd of patrons has even changed. The ambiance reminded me of going to see my grandma in her elderly housing complex. So, it really gave off safe, comfy and grandparent vibes. I love it! Overall, the meal wasn't bad but will NEVER get this again Next time I think I'll get the RibEye

When your best friend and mom finds out that you're going to have a brain surgery , they picks you up and takes you to Mimi's Café for breakfast . There's truly nothing that Mimi's café honey Bran muffin can't fix. OK well maybe not a brain aneurysm but seriously it can fix everything else ! Been a loyal Customer for years just because of that honey bran muffin. All Downey girls love the honey bran muffin.!

What's wrong with me? Why didn't I come here sooner? This place is so amazing!!!! I've passed this place like 1,000 times, I'm telling you, you have to come. The food is fabulous. The customer service is amazing. You think chik fil a service is better? Come here and find out why this place is second to none. The atmosphere and music is just perfect. What I love the most is that it isn't at all busy. The menu is very extensive. They have Sandwiches, burgers, pasta, steaks, pot roasts, omelettes... you name it. They also have complimentary toasted bread loaf with butter. I had some until they ran out and they literally gave me a free muffin as a sorry for running out of bread. wow We had a wonderful Sunday lunch ! The wait was worth it , all the food was so delicious . I really recommend the white peach mimosa and cinnamon walnut muffins are just amazing .I'm really returning for the steak !!!. So, on a regular day, beaides from sometimes not having a complete order as requested this place is good BUT For thankgiving catering. THE. ABSOLUTE. WORST. I had to wait for 2.5 hours in a cluster of a line that had no guidance from an employee or manager to make a formal line. Given the number of request the restaurant should have prepped better for the long lines. When im finally able to get to the counter to get my $415.00 order i come to find out that there was no more ham and had to wait an extra hour for that. There was an asian maybe hispanic manager on duty who was in the kitchen putting in work while some other supervisor or lead in a flowery shirt did NOTHING except hide upstairs. We ordered 2 ham feast. The first ham feast order was real ham because it was in stock but when it came our second order that we had to wait an extra hour for is literally ham from a can. What the f#$^. I could have gone to RAPLHS and bought canned ham for a fraction pf the price. Most if not all orders were pre ordered and there is NO excuse to not have enough ham or food to supply all orders. Especially when paying $400+. For being a high end restaurant i expected much better. I will be back tomorrow with this post and pictures to prove my point. Today I came in to get breakfast and I was lucky enough to have a great waiter named Tony. Constantly asking if we needed anything and was always available for when we did needed anything. My first time here and it was a great experience. Can't wait to come back again and I will be asking for Tony as my waiter. Btw awesome food as well read more

What happened to Mimi's!? Low customer service and even lower quality of food. Host forgets to write our name so we have to wait longer..... one server for a ton of people which took FOREVER to get service. The food was horrid. It's obvious they're trying to keep this place open using the lowest quality ingredients and items. Don't bother coming here. Skip it and move on to avoid the bad experience. And yes, I'm writing this as I sit waiting for my check. read more

So I haven't been here is years but the service was so awful that i had to write this. My family came here after I graduated from college. It was pretty empty on a Friday afternoon. The manager ended up serving us and he was such an awful person. He gave my family attitude and when he brought out the plates he practically threw them on the table and didn't even bother checking if that plate was for that person. He made us figure it out. He didn't come back to check on us and he honestly kind of made us feel inferior. My parents are humble people and this was a special day for them. They were all dressed up and humiliated. We have never gone back to any Mimis restaurant because of this experience. read more

11/29/19 First let me say we have always enjoyed the food at Mimi's so we decided to have them prepare our thanksgiving feast . We made the order a week in advance and had a scheduled pick up time . We had to wait over two hours along with at least thirty other people some waiting even longer. We were given no reason for the wait other than they had run into a few problems . The manager Bryon Smith was very rude and even said ; he wished he could be with his family. He later left leaving everyone waiting . It was not until we decided to cancel our order did we receive our meal and to add insult to the experience they added a 15% gratuity to our bill . I will never order from them again . The manager needs some better training . He could of handle things better . read more

Came in for a brunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had forgot about the black and blue quesadillas and was so happy to see them on the menu again! Wow Mimi's you owe me a Thanksgiving re-do made a reservation for 6:00pm checked in at 5:38pm wasn't given a table till about 7pm (after we started complaining). The table was HORRIBLE they added an extension to a table but only the original table had a tablecloth it gets better they sat us on foldable chairs. Totally not worth the $300 we spend. Why take reservations if you're not gonna honor them? Horrible experience never again!! read more

Unfortunately, the reality falls noticeably short of that expectation. While the food itself is serviceable, it never rises beyond what you might expect from a standard at-home breakfast spread. Nothing on the table felt particularly memorable, inventive, or worth returning for. The biggest disappointment came in the details, but really lack thereof. The fruit served alongside the meal had the unmistakable appearance and texture of pre-packaged, bulk-distributed produce, lacking the freshness and vibrancy you would hope for from a restaurant positioning itself as a neighborhood kitchen. It gave more cafeteria than curated brunch. Service also struggled to meet even basic hospitality standards. Water refills required repeated attempts to get someone's attention, and neighboring tables were similarly left flagging down staff for utensils and tableware. Once the order was placed and food delivered, attentiveness seemed to disappear almost entirely. I'm not sure where the standard is set.. Given the location and atmosphere, there's an expectation of a more refined and welcoming experience, but the execution never quite supports the price point or reputation. If you do visit, avoid outdoor seating unless you're prepared for an even more disconnected service experience. Ultimately, there are far better places to spend your brunch budget. Especially when this is the kind of meal many could comfortably recreate at home with fresher ingredients and more care. If you're going to have competitive price points for these meals they should at least match.

First the bad: the Rio is my usual favorite. Tonight, my burger was so overcooked and just dry as the Sahara. The wings had odd places where I had to spit out the dry, overcooked bits. Overall, the wings were great - sweet Thai chile - but what were these weird dry spots? And really, shredded lettuce is terrible. Put a nice leaf of lettuce, or don't put any on there at all. Now the good: the meat is very good quality, and has good, beefy flavor. The wings that didn't have the weird crusty dry spots were very well cooked, succulent, and that sweet That chile sauce is so money. The staff is very nice, polite, and organized. The prices are in line with what you'd expect to pay for a better quality burger. And you can let them know if you want customization - or you can just go with Grub style (their sauce) or backyard style (mustard and ketchup). Overall, Grub is a pretty reliable meal spot, better than average by quite a distance. But please - don't smash the smash burgers so hard and so many times! It leaves all the juiciness in the griddle. I'm hoping that I'll be back one day and it'll still be there, making epic burgers and wings!

I had eagerly anticipated our Mother's Day outing at Mimi's with my one-year-old and extended family. It was meant to be a memorable celebration, a joyful gathering over delicious food. However, our experience at Mimi's was a far cry from what we had hoped for. My sister-in-law had made reservations for our party of 14 at 12:30 pm, yet we were not seated until a full hour later. Disappointingly, there was no acknowledgment of the delay or recognition of our patience during this wait. Once seated, we were greeted by the server after fifteen minutes had passed. To our dismay, we discovered that the meal was a pre-fixe arrangement, a detail overlooked during the reservation process. When we inquired about ordering from the regular menu, our server's response lacked accommodation, cautioning us against making any demanding requests due to the apparent kitchen workload. Our disappointment grew as half of our table remained without water for an extended period. When the food finally arrived at around 2:30 pm--two hours after our reservation time--it was evident that the restaurant was struggling to manage the influx of customers. This delay in service was further exacerbated by the staggered arrival of our meals, with some members of our party receiving their food much later than others. The server attributed this delay to a shortage of clean dishes, a concerning revelation that hinted at inadequate preparation for the busy Mother's Day rush. Adding to our frustration, our desired dessert option was unavailable, a disappointment only exacerbated by the lengthy wait. By the time we received our bill, it was nearly 4pm and our family had been there for over 3.5 hours! The confusion surrounding the managerial staff further compounded our dissatisfaction, as we initially mistook one of the servers for the manager. Although the management attempted to rectify the situation by offering a discount on our bill and providing gift cards for a future visit, the overall experience fell short of our expectations. Mimi's Bistro & Bakery never fails to disappoint, this time it's the service. The new menu is great and has brought us back several times especially the two new fish entrees that feature cod cooked just right. However the twenty minute wait for a table is disappointing especially when a third of the tables in the man dining room are unoccupied and not cleared. Then there was the ten minute wait for a waitress, maybe that why they call them waitresses. She was unfamiliar with the menu which added additional confusion. Our orders took another twenty minutes to get out of the kitchen. All of the above problems and disappointments revolve around indifferent management with a poorly trained and poorly scheduled staff. We only saw one person busing tables. The waitresses had to step in and bus their tables own which took them away from their primary duty of serving customers. This is with at least ten people waiting in the entrance waiting area to be seated. I want to be quick to add we've never had a bad meal at Mimi's but it seems such a shame to see a restaurant with an outstanding menu, priced right, fail because of an inability to deliver their product to a hungry clientele. In summary, Mimi's Bistro & Bakery in Downey is about waiting.. If you got the time to wait and don't mind...you'll experience a great meal properly prepared and reasonably priced. This location, Downey, has to be the worst for Mimi's Cafe. How sad this location ruins the name of the business in whole. The staff are incompenent fools! Asked for Iced Tea the girl brings out Raspberry Iced Tea.. after I finish the Raspberry Iced Tea I ask for regular Iced Tea.. she brings out Raspberry Iced Tea again. SMH! I sat across the kitchen and I noticed the server picking fries off the plate and throwing it somewhere for a good couple minutes.. later she brings that same plate she was picking fries off of and gives it to me. LOL wow. I confront her but she just brushes me off and walks away. When I picked up my sandwhich I noticed the plate was dirty. Hard crusted crap on the plate. I thought it was mustard and I checked the sandwhich but it had no mustard and I also saw some green stuff caked on the plate as well.. couldn't eat.. lost my appetite. F-ing DISGUSTING!!! what the hell is wrong with these people. I should've walked away when I saw the B rating on the window.. but my Grandma loves there French Onion Soup. :0 so we stayed. We've lived in Downey for 30 years and have been going to Mimi"s for about as long as I can remember. Mimi"s was the go-to place for dining back in the days before Downey Landing and Downey Promenade. The menu back then was so much better. They had the best clam chowder and they would serve the bread basket with the carrot raisin cake free of charge. You sat down at a table and bam-- there's a basket of breads unfortunately, however, not only do you not get a complimentary bread basket, you don't get good service either. Back in the days, Mimi"s was packed with an average wait time of 30 minutes. Those days are long gone, just like their clam chowder. We quit going there long ago, with just an occasional visit when we want a cup of French onion soup, which is still as good as it was long ago. We went this evening because we knew there would be no wait. We ordered the French Pot Roast as part of their 3-course meal. It was awful!! The meat was unseasoned and so dry, it tasted old and beefy and the dessert was chocolate molten cake which did not ooze with chocolate and the ice cream had ice crystals sorry, Mimi"s, but even your French onion soup won't entice us to visit again! read more

My recent visit to Mimi's Cafe left me with mixed feelings. Upon entering, we received a warm welcome and were promptly seated. Our server, Jose, stood out as a courteous and attentive individual, even though he appeared slightly overwhelmed. The main issue was the pacing of our meal. After ordering the carrot loaf as a starter, it took a bit longer than expected to arrive, and the main courses were served just three minutes after the bread. This quick turnaround left our small table crowded with food. The noise level in the restaurant was quite high, with the constant clattering of dishes by the bussers adding to the commotion. Additionally, our table was not properly cleaned when we were first seated, which was disappointing. Overall, my experience at Mimi's Cafe was less than satisfying. While the timing of the bread and food arrival was better than initially mentioned, the issues with pacing, the noisy environment, and the table cleanliness still impacted our overall dining experience. I had a really disappointing experience at Mimi's Cafe in Downey. I came in to redeem a birthday reward that clearly stated it could be used "per check" with a purchase. To follow that, I ordered muffins so I was making a purchase. However, the waiter refused to honor the reward and insisted it could only be used with an entrée--even though that requirement was nowhere in the email or fine print. I even showed him the actual reward details, and he still denied it. It's frustrating when a restaurant doesn't honor its own promotions, especially for something meant to make customers feel appreciated on their birthday. The lack of consistency and unwillingness to resolve the issue left a bad impression. I've enjoyed Mimi's in the past, but this experience definitely makes me hesitant to return. I hope management can clarify their policies and better train staff to avoid situations like this read more

It's sad to say but this place does deserve 1 star. So me and my family decided to go out for some desserts on a Sunday evening. We figured we would come here instead of Porto's since Porto's always has a huge line and we were looking for a quick place to be seated. We got here on a Sunday and the greeter said it was only a "10" min await. However, it turned out to be a 20-30min wait and the restaurant wasn't even full, at all. it was obvious they were short on staff, the manager looked bothered. We finally were seated and we ordered our drinks, a wine, hot cocos and a coffee. They took forever to just bring us our drinks. We were confused as to why there were taking forever just to serve us. They didn't have a big selection on dinner or deserts. I won't be going back any time soon. Sorry. Service needs to improve alot. read more

Well let start by saying that this was my second time here but I did not review the first time because their food was not the memorable so I forgot to post my opinion. Thought my second time around would be better, unfortunately for me I was still disappointed. Like the first time their server were courteous and polite however their food was totally bland.I had Tuna sandwhich was ok but I had to add salt. My friend has shrimp and fries the fries seemed like they had been refried they were as hard as rocks. My other Friend provencial salmon salad Oh My that was horrible the Salad was very soggy and the greens were old. Had a taste, as you can tell I didnt like that at all. Nothing special about this restaurant. Service it was ok but it could be better. Price Is ok. read more

Oh Mimi's....a few co-workers in hungry fashion decided to give you a go during lunch...we should have reconsidered. First off, I know you are a chain, so with that said, although the food may not rock my world..I expect chain-like excellent and timely service. We completely were ignored for the first 10 minutes standing by the host stand... tsk tsk tsk. Then we just decided to seat ourselves at the bar, thinking 'okay this should be a least faster service... nope, dead slow. I understand the lunch rush, but this was very terrible. The food was very mediocre and even though I dig the muffins, it is not enough to bring me back here. Ladies and gents, I'd take my appetite elsewhere in the neighborhood. read more

I had such a great experience at Mimi's Café in Downey! The food was fresh, delicious, and came out quickly, but what really made the visit memorable was the service. Our server, Tony, was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and always made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. He had a great attitude and made the whole dining experience so enjoyable. It's not easy to find servers who are both professional and genuinely kind, but Tony definitely stood out. I recently enjoyed a delicious meal at this establishment. I ordered a ham, egg, sausage omelette and a flight of mimosas. Despite requesting no onions, the dish still had onions in it, but I have to admit, it was incredibly tasty. The potatoes were my absolute favorite part of the meal. The mimosas were also delightful, and they came in a nice set up of three for just $13. The ambiance of the place was calm and quiet, which added to the overall enjoyable experience. Today we had some excellent service we ordered liver with onions and mushrooms and that was delicious and for the desser we had some bread pudding... what i observed was a tall mgr.. never seem him before the whole 45m we were there he was talking to other tables asking them how is everithing?? He even told us if there is any issues to talk to him and hell make it right?? My daughter, 10yrs old, and I came in for a mother daughter breakfast. We were greeted by our lovely server Millie. She made ordering easy and fun. Millie checkEd in on us often. My daughter ordered the Belgian waffles and she said "it was delicious!" She also thought they were big and fluffy. I ordered the Santa Fe omelette, my favorite. The eggs are always cooked perfectly and the combination of scallions, cheese and chipotle sauce make every bite delicious. Mimi's cafe is our favorite restaurant especially for breakfast. read more
