This review is 100% about the service of the restaurant, their ability to manage, and the guest experience. We made a reservation for Mother's Day for a party of 10 at 1:00pm. When we arrived, they put our name on the waitlist and we immediately noticed that there were 5 parties ahead of us who also had reservations. No big deal. It's a busy day. 20 minutes later we are still waiting to be seated. When we inquired about the remaining wait time, the hostess said another 15-20 minutes. At 1:45 we are still waiting for a table. When we ask the hostess about how much longer, she VERY SNARKILY, said 20-25 minutes and she "can't make the server come back from his break". Simultaneously, my mother remarked to my father that this new wait time was the same thing the hostess said before. The hostess heard my mother and yelled across the lobby "What did you say?", at least twice. At this point I asked to speak to the manager. Both hostesses walked away from the podium, and I stood there for a few minutes until the manager came. Manager came, asked my party name, and WALKED AWAY! Finally our table is ready: almost an hour after our reservation time. The snarky hostess showed us to our table. Instead of walking with us and escorting us to the table, as is normal polite etiquette, she quickly went to the table, faster than our party could walk, dropped the menus and left before our entire party arrived at the table. To top it off, as the hostess was returning to the host stand, she physically bumped into my Mother and then my Grandfather and continued to barrel on through. No apology. We sat at the table for at least 10 minutes before the server came to us. By this point, we were hungry and frustrated. So we left and went to Del Taco! That food was fast, delicious, and the employees were very nice. Mimi's on the other hand, left much to be desired and was overall a terrible experience. read more

I made a reservation for Mother's Day at 7:30 for a party of 6 (4 adults and 2 babies). When we got to the restaurant there were about 5 other parties already seated. We stood at the host stand for about 10 mins before someone even came over to greet us, she was too busy talking to another employee at the bar. We were finally greeted and it took another 5 mins to get seated. The woman was running back and forth since it was a reservation. It wasn't busy, but being Mother's Day we wanted to make one to be safe. When we sat down, we were asked about what we want for drinks and the waitress left. We noticed that the menus were the "mother's days special" but it was only lunch and started at 11 am. We tried to get her attention to get a new menus for breakfast and she was nowhere to be found. I ended up just getting up and grabbing some at the host stand. When I went up there were about 3 more parties waiting to be seated, and no host. We didn't see the waitress for another 10 mins or so when she brought the coffee. We then waiting another 45 mins for our food. There were other tables that were seated after us, got their food and check before we got our food. When my plate came (the stuffed French toast) the plate was cold, and the French toast was ice cold and bread was soggy. The cut strawberries had most of the stem still on them, making them inedible. I told the waitress and she took the plate back. She came a few mins later with a new plate that was super hot and kinda messy. The bread was lukewarm and the strawberries looked the same. Honestly looked like they just put the same food on another plate and put it in the microwave or something. Since we were already there for an hour I just ate the cold food. I had to ask the waitress twice about the milk we ordered for my toddler. We got the milk and check at the same time. I honestly don't know how this location is still open if their service is this bad. With how much you have to pay for a breakfast now, I shouldn't have to ask to have something remade cause it was cold. Going out to eat is expensive and a treat, and now I feel like we wasted all that money for food that I could have done better at home. read more

Today was my first visit to Mimi's Cafe in Downy CA. I was at the Lakewood Mall down the street and needed some nourishment to continue shopping. Mimi's restaurants always appealed to me because they resemble a large, brightly colored house. I just had never been to one. I ordered the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and garlic spinach. The red wine sauce on the meatloaf was delicious. I enjoyed my meal as well as attentive service from my server Antonio. I would recommend Mimi's for your next casual dining experience. I've been to a Mimi's Cafe over a decade ago and I'm unsure if my experience was like the one I had today. Maybe it's just the location? Or maybe this location was just short servers. There were a bunch of booths open, there were only three parties ahead of us, and our party of two took about a half an hour to get seated. During our wait in the lobby we had already decided what we wanted to order so that we would be ready to tell the server. As soon as we sat, it took about 15 minutes to see our server and another 35 minutes to get our food out. The potatoes and omelette that I ordered were luke warm when I got it. The taste of the food itself was far from horrible, but for the price of the dishes and compared to some of the mom and pop places I've eaten at in Downey, I felt like it's was not worth the price. read more

Ridiculous to go service this morning 10:20am. The male manager or assistant manager pawned me off to the hostess who is clearly not trained to be taking to go orders. I wanted four muffins, I had to tell her three times the type of muffins. she did not know what container they went in, she changed the box three times after finally asking for help. Then she didn't know how to charge me, so she had to ask for help, then she walks away after charging me without giving me the muffins. This is not her fault at all this is on management 100%. We went into the restaurant I notice I couldn't tell my wife tells me they use to have curtains I told her really it's been a long time we have been here. The restaurant wasn't full we got seated right away and the waitress came and hand us the menu and we order our drinks. I notice they new item to their menu the food looks so good even my wife says the menu is totally different since we been here. My wife decided to get the roasted chicken and myself I I order the rustic chicken with artichoke and also comes with the choice of soup or salad I choice the potato soup and waitress brought us fresh bake bread. The bread was good and the waitress brought my potato soup I have tasted many version of potato soup but this was good very light not to heavy with the cream like other potato soup I use the bread dipping into my sour it was good. And then then the waitress brought us our meal then I say the food looks so good including my wife roasted chicken look so delicious. My rustic chicken and artichoke plate very tasty. I took a bite it was really the chicken was cook perfect including the medley of vegetables they so good including the mashed potatoes and the sauce incredible good I really enjoy the dish very much. Nice building, bad parking. They share a parking lot with a hotel so if you are going at a prime time it will be tough. We called ahead for a last minute reservation and they were very accommodating. Got there at 12noon, it didn't feel too busy but it did take time for us to get our order in and out. Overall, it's a typical cafe food, nothing special. I was disappointed with my French onion soup. It looked nothing like the menu photo, and had a SLICE of cheese on top that was hardly melted. I had the French dip to go along with it, barely any meat and I paid and extra $2for onions and peppers which were minimal. Not worth it. Everyone else seemed happy with their plates. read more
