It's been a very long time my wife and have to Mimi's cafe we don't know have years it has been. We decided to come Mimi's cafe to see any changes on the menu and changes to the restaurant. We went into the restaurant I notice I couldn't tell my wife tells me they use to have curtains I told her really it's been a long time we have been here. The restaurant wasn't full we got seated right away and the waitress came and hand us the menu and we order our drinks. I notice they new item to their menu the food looks so good even my wife says the menu is totally different since we been here. My wife decided to get the roasted chicken and myself I I order the rustic chicken with artichoke and also comes with the choice of soup or salad I choice the potato soup and waitress brought us fresh bake bread. The bread was good and the waitress brought my potato soup I have tasted many version of potato soup but this was good very light not to heavy with the cream like other potato soup I use the bread dipping into my sour it was good. And then then the waitress brought us our meal then I say the food looks so good including my wife roasted chicken look so delicious. My rustic chicken and artichoke plate very tasty. I took a bite it was really the chicken was cook perfect including the medley of vegetables they so good including the mashed potatoes and the sauce incredible good I really enjoy the dish very much. Overall we enjoy the food at Mimi's cafe and we enjoy the service also the waitress was friendly and nice. read more

The offensive odor in the lobby should be dealt with. It's strong, it's pungent and it has an underlying urine smell. 6pm on a Saturday, right next to the Embassy Suites and there were 5 tables in the whole restaurant. My guests ordered the ribeye, I ordered the ham and cheese crepes. The crepes were good. The steak was rubbery and difficult to cut. Service was fantastic but its hard to recommend this place because of the lobby smell. read more

Mimi's has been our favorite place since back in the 80s. We have celebrated birthdays and graduations and enjoyed the amazing food and service. My mom who is 90 still remembers all the good times we have shared and she often asks if we can have brunch on the weekends. Today we ordered coffee which is always fresh and hot. The pancakes and omelettes were as good as ever. We will continue our family tradition of dining at Mimis on Firestone Blvd in Downey. read more

Nice building, bad parking. They share a parking lot with a hotel so if you are going at a prime time it will be tough. We called ahead for a last minute reservation and they were very accommodating. Got there at 12noon, it didn't feel too busy but it did take time for us to get our order in and out. Overall, it's a typical cafe food, nothing special. I was disappointed with my French onion soup. It looked nothing like the menu photo, and had a SLICE of cheese on top that was hardly melted. I had the French dip to go along with it, barely any meat and I paid and extra $2for onions and peppers which were minimal. Not worth it. Everyone else seemed happy with their plates. read more

The manager, Josie loves her team and you can tell as she would follow her staff and help out with coffee pours and chatting with customers, ensuring the warm reception was felt. Josie chatted with me a bit and I appreciated her kindness of conversation as my morning was a bit hectic before hand. My server Alex made certain that my breakfast plate was to my satisfaction. Food was great. Service was very slow, had to ask twice for water and a refill on coffee. Some of us wanted to order desert, but she was so slow to come back to order we had to leave for the concert next door. We were a party of 7 and spent over an hour and 45 minutes. Very nice greeting, and the restaurant looked in good shape. I sat down and wondered why the place was so empty. Within seconds, the smell of disinfectant from the restroom area was just overwhelming. I should have left as this really put me off the food. When ordered at 7pm, they did not have any roast chicken. Their own recommendation , I counted 4 couples in the entire restaurant. What's going on ? I ordered the French dip and it seemed good on arrival. The broth was tasteless and the meat and bun were bland. No taste. Wine was good. No water refill though. Overall, I'd say there are better places nearby. The staff were really nice and it's a shame the management don't fix the gaps as it could be good. read more
