I have been a client of Mimi's for 10 years. It has been so disheartening to see how they've gone downhill. I returned once after they open with Covid and they did a great job as far as check in , hand sanitizing ,screening , social distancing. I made at 5o'clock appointment today sat there for 45 minutes without one acknowledgment with multiple other people came in who were serviced. What is the point of an appointment if you are not going to at least try to honor it? I finally had to leave. No screen , No hand sanitizer,questionable social distancing. They were at least wearing masks. It's sad to see a business go downhill. Time to look for somewhere else read more

After a terrible experience at the Verizon store (big surprise, right?), I looked across the street. There it was, like a beacon -- Mimi Nail Spa. I hadn't heard anything about the place, and as a beauty blogger, that's not usually a good thing. But there it was -- guiding me toward it like a moth to a bright light. As I opened the doors, the first thing I noticed was that the salon didn't smell like nail polish. The techs weren't wearing masks, and they were all interacting with their customers. As soon as I sat down, I was offered drinks. Not just your regular run of the mill drinks... but wine, soda and Japanese green tea. Why, yes, I will take a glass of white wine to top off this cruddy day! Thank you! I will also note that I am one of those girls who changes their nail polish choice at LEAST once throughout my manicure. Andy was an absolutely joy when I asked to change it. He wasn't the least bit irritated, even if my request was probably quite annoying. I was already wearing OPI gel, and had planned to just get it removed and replaced. Many nail salons charge for this, but my nail guy, Andy, took it off without an extra charge. I got another OPI gel applied, and my total was $35, which is about average for the area. I would have given this nail salon 5 stars, but I did get a slight nick on my cuticle from Andy's buffer. Nothing crucial, but it was slightly uncomfortable. However, my gel looks perfect and the customer service was amazing. I will definitely return to Mimi Nail Spa, and I highly recommend Andy as the nail tech. read more

I can't compare Mimi to others in the area (I was just passing through and thought it looked pretty) but in my overall experience, I thought the manicure I received was above average, especially for the price. The tech ("Julie") took her time and did an excellent job on my cuticles. I liked that I was offered a beverage and the music was relaxing (they use Pandora, which is great until the ads come on and spoil the mood). I didn't realize until I was walking over to the dryer that I hadn't paid yet, which is my only real complaint. My usual place (in Illinois) always has me pay before they start the polish so I'm not digging in my wallet with freshly done nails. If you go, ask to pay before they start the polish. It might confuse them, but it's worth it. read more

Only come here if you are ready to be paying for EVERY service. Fill ins do NOT include reshaping so be prepared to pay more than the ACTUAL price. The good: Clean, open sundays, no wait, nice staff. My technician promised the polish would last a month--I will post an update. The not-so-good: The mani-pedi combo is $6 more than at Lee Day Spa (by Kroger), and they charge an extra $5 for french manicure, which brought my total up to $46. The massage included the technician pounding my arms and legs with her fist, which was actually a little painful. And I tried to request pink polish over the white in the french manicure a few times and she either didn't understand or didn't listen. I also hate the UV machine (Cancer! Wrinkles!) but they didn't give me an option to skip it due to the choice of top coat. To sum up: more expensive than I would have liked for a a service that wasn't superior. read more

I have been getting pedicures at Mimi's in Durham every 3 weeks for at least 2 years and think they do a very fine job. They do not rush and pay attention to detail. The leg message and hot towel application are wonderful! Other reviewers indicated that they thought the salon was messy. I have not experienced this ever. The technicians are friendly and good at their jobs. My only criticism would be that they take the idea of an appointment at a set time loosely. I made an appointment once and realized that they don't "reserve" a spot for you at that time. So, now I don't make appointments but have rarely had to wait at all. This is likely due to good timing on my part--not too late in the afternoon on the weekends. The most I've waited is 10 minutes. read more

I have been going here for years. Some of the staff is different now and the last two times I have gone the pedicures are fast and the paint job is terrible. Well, they've got a lot of competition with two nail salons across the street in New Hope Commons, but Mimi's does have the edge because it's still new (built and opened a little over a year ago) and still very clean-feeling. In our mission to find the perfect pedicure, my friend and I have scoured Durham salons. This wasn't either of our faves, but it did score points with us for it's innovation. When we went, we picked a polish and then we picked a salt scrub or sugar scrub in our favorite scent, and a lotion in our favorite scent. The aestheticians used the exfoliating scrub on our feet and calves and then rubbed in the lotion before our pedicure. Usually salons will make you pay extra for exfoliation or for 'extended' massage, but this all came as part of our basic package. Very cool, plus it's just fun and girly to sample and pick out all the products you're about to be pampered with. read more

Never had a good experience with any of the men doing my pedicures...ever. The women do an amazing job but the men is a hard no for me. Cut your nails down too short, too aggressive and overall thumbs down for the men in the establishment love the women though. I feel bad but now I have to start asking for women only cause I'm dissatisfied every single time. read more

Had an amazing appointment with Vicky . She is the best with sns . Everyone there is kind and caring . They go above to make sure everything is very sterile. They have you use hand sanitizer when you first enter. They have plastic barriers between you and the nail technician and everything is clean and wiped down after ever client . I went to Mimi's for a toe polish change and was charged $15! I have never been to a nail spa where a polish change was $15 and on top of that the service was rushed. I am completely aware that it is the Summer and that their days may be jammed packed with clientele HOWEVER that does not mean that customer service becomes piss poor or that up charges occur because you feel as if time is taken out of your day to service a higher paying client. read more

At 2:50 I asked to get an estimation of how much longer my wait would be and no one had an answer for me. Asked again at 3:15 and no one would make eye contact with me. Meanwhile people were coming in and getting seated. The people that had signed in after us were seated 30 minutes later while they still had us waiting. I would not go here again. It looks kind of nice inside, but that's misleading. My little sister and I came here right after she graduated from UNC Chapel Hill--it was our last night together and she actually wanted to treat me to getting our nails done, something she could never afford for 4 years until she got a bit of graduation money. Needless to say, it was kind of a big deal to her to get to finally spend some money to treat me to something that truly is a TREAT to both of us--getting nails done is a major luxury to us and we do not do it often at all. So, we wanted it to feel special, luxurious and be a nice indulging time together. After much quibbling and despite my protests she decided to go all out and select the champagne and rose petal pedicure for us--like I said, we really wanted this to be special and luxurious and to feel pampered since we never do this. The employees there were the ones who handed us their book of pedicure options when we asked for a simple pedicure, but once we chose the most expensive option (which we wouldn't have even thought to do if they hadn't handed us their book of options) they first acted annoyed and then acted clueless. They started talking to one of the I assume managers in Chinese and he was having to explain to them what to do. They begrudgingly went to the back and re-appeared with glasses of champagne and rose petals, and while I was getting my camera out to capture the moment they very unceremoniously dumped the glasses of champagne and petals into our foot baths so I didn't even have a chance to see and didn't know til I felt bubbles hit my feet for 2 seconds. Kind of disappointing but we were trying to enjoy it anyway. We were supposed to have a bunch of "extra" stuff with this option, like a lavender warm neck pad, a facial, an aroma-therapy candle with the scent of our choice burning the whole time, etc. After they dumped the champagne and roses they brought out none of this. When the pedicures were 2/3 of the way done my sister realized it didn't seem like they were going to bring out any of the other stuff that was supposed to be included in our package, so she very nicely asked about the other items. They had no idea what we were talking about and asked the manager--a flurry of annoyed sounding Chinese again and they went in the back and came back with one candle almost burned to the wick and lit it (no options, but whatever), went and got parafin treatments for our legs, and went and dug up lavender neck pads. We asked about the facial when everything was done and they said it was a facial or the parafin and they chose for us--but my sister had been looking forward to the facial the whole time, and they never told us we had a choice. They took forever, and made my sister wait sitting at a table for a good 30 minutes between pedicure and manicure to get her fingernails done even though the place was not busy. The people who actually did our nails seemed very annoyed, bored and like they wanted to rush through it. Not exactly what you want when you're paying quite a bit extra for a "specialty" option, actually supposedly their most special option. My sister used graduation money that she needs every penny of, this one time to treat us as a sort of celebration of this chapter ending in her life and I felt really bad for her that it was so underwhelming and so the opposite of the decadence it promised. Of course she didn't really complain because she's too nice, but I've had my nails done a few times in different areas of the country and this was really disappointing enough that I wanted to review it on Yelp. I'd choose somewhere else if you are at all looking for some kind of ambiance/experience. read more

Nail salons for the most part can be generalized pretty easily, but I am a fan of Mimi's. It is a little more pricey than most strip mall nail salons, but the service they give is totally worth it. Some reviewers have had language barriers and I've never had that problem. The salon is well taken care of and is always incredibly clean. I really like the fact that there is a beverage offered with every service. The ladies who have done my pedicures have been so fantastic. I have only had one eyebrow wax that I wasn't pleased with and the only reason was that the technician teased me a little for the amount of time/state of my eyebrows . I will continue to come in monthly and get a spa pedicure and probably avoid the eyebrow table. read more

I had SNS done a couple weeks ago, I was not offered a manicure at all the tech just started the SNS process that I was not yet familiar with. Since my cuticles were not pushed back it looked like it grew out much faster than it should. Less than 3 days later the tips started chipping. I am two weeks out and one hand looks okay but my other hand has micro cracks all through the polish and all 5 tips have chips. I won't even go back to have it fixed read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! I would give them zero stars, but that's not actually an option. First issue is that I went and had a full set of their pink & white 'dip' acrylic method. I paid $55 dollars, they were sloppy, and lasted FOUR days. Here is my biggest issue. I wanted to get my toes painted. First of all, they charge FIFTEEN DOLLARS for it, which is outrageous. Most places charge between $9-$11. They have a new line from OPI called the ColorPaints collection. It's really neat. You can layer different colors and it kind of looks like water colors. So I decided to suck up the $15 issue & get them painted (since I was already there). They proceeded to tell me that because it was 'special polish' it was $5 extra. For the record, it's not special polish. It's just nail polish. The silver polish (the one she said was 'special') is exactly the same price as the others. Their Infinite Shine collection is extra because there's a special base in it to assist with the shine. That I would understand. So, $20 for a freaking toe polish change? Absolutely not. I told them they were crazy and I left. I went across the street to Polished, got the ColorPaint polish on my toes for $10. Same as any other polish change. My advice? Save your money and go to Polished instead. read more

I visited this nail salon several weeks ago and the pedicure, staff, customer service was great. I returned today hoping for the same service but that did not happen. I'm on a staycation this week and thought how nice to go and get a relaxing pedicure while reading a book. All started out ok until the technician started working on my feet. She was rough and heavy handed. Pushing back my cuticles was like torture, my toes are still sore. When doing the callous removal the skin on the side of my big toe was scrubbed off! She was scrubbing so hard I actually started pulling my foot away. She looked at the side of my toe and said "oh". I told her she was doing that really hard. She never apologized or offered to cover up the raw area. It bled and burned the whole time and still burns an hour later. The leg and foot massage was so aggressive that I could not even relax or enjoy this part. Running your long fingernails down my legs is not pleasant at all. I'm so pissed that I spent money and left in pain. Going to dinner tonight for a birthday and won't be able to wear the shoes I had planned on because of my freakin' toe! read more

I received a gift certificate for Mothers day. This place is terrible. I had SNS and pedicure as I do at my normal salon. This experience was terrible. My SNS nails were pried off instead of gentle soaking the pedicure was fast and definitely not relaxing and on top of it all it cost a lot more than my regular salon. I had an appointment for an SNS manicure and a regular pedicure scheduled for 3:30, I was seen by one of their technicians. We decided on a shade of light pink SNS matte nail polish for my fingernails. As the technician was prepping my nails she cut my cuticles so short that they began to bleed and they're now very noticeably torn up where they had not been before. I was on the verge of tears, and she proceeded to say, "Your cuticles are a mess." They looked fine before I went in. As she began putting the powder on my nails, I noticed that the powder was a much darker shade of pink than I wanted. I was trying to match a mauve prom dress so it was very important that my nails were a light pink. I was assured that the color would be the color I had described at the end. The shade did not in fact look anything like what I wanted, and I was left with bubble gum pink nails instead of a light blush shade. Furthermore, I asked for matte polish on at least 4 occasions and was assured, each time, that my nails would be matte. They were not. When I asked yet again if they would be matte, the technician replied, "You wanted matte?" I asked to speak with the manager, as it had become clear to me that the technician was having trouble understanding exactly what I wanted. Another technician there, known as the best one (Nick), told me that the light pink color I wanted would not look good in matte. I wouldn't have even chosen the light pink color in the first place if I had been made aware that it wouldn't look good in matte. The manager then told me that they could do a matte topcoat on what I had already, and that it would look fine. Trusting Nick, I decided against this. The manager brought over another dip powder and assured me that this new color was what I was looking for. At this point, I did not trust their judgement, so I decided to opt for a french manicure so that I wouldn't have to start from the very beginning and risk getting another color that I didn't want. She then told me that switching to a french manicure would cost $10 extra, despite the fact that I was only switching to a french manicure due to their incompetence. The pedicure I received was equally terrible. It began with water so cold I could hardly keep my feet submerged in the tub. When I asked to have the temperature raised, the tub was drained and then filled with equally cold water. It took them 10 minutes to finally get the temperature lukewarm. I decided to settle for the lukewarm water. However, when the technician went to rinse off the exfoliation scrub from my calves the water she used was frigid, yet again. And, when I asked her to warm it up she said she would and proceeded to not even attempt to change the temperature. read more

I have been to this salon 3 times now and I am really upset. They cut me twice while doing the last manicure, I said ouch when she cut me the first time and she did not even apologies. Another thing that really bothered me when I got my bill. I specifically asked for the 41$ mani-pedi and when i paid the bill was it was for 48$, when i asked they said that I got the more expensive mani-pedi. Overpriced. Staff speaks very broken english. They actually upcharge to buff your nail vs polish with a manucure? 5 bucks!
