The last time I came here was in 2002. I had just moved back from spending 5 years in Las Vegas, buffet capital of the world. I think at the time this place was Happy Buffet. I was slightly horrified by the food - it was really ethnic - chicken feet. I remember the chicken feet. Burned into my memory. Forever. I remember said chicken feet and hubby totally snarfing it down. *shudders* Here I am, almost 10 years later, 8 moves later and in a roundabout way I am back in California. In the Bay Area. Hubs wanted something chinese with a decent selection. I saw the buffet and suggested that - we figured it was bought out/renovated because we saw a new name. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't dingy looking like it was when it was Happy Buffet. Food also seemed fresher and there was definitely a bigger selection. I was looking for a buffet around the area and I ended up at this buffet cause I was craving lots of sushi so I quickly went to yelp to find out more about this place. The reviews were not that great but I still decided to give it a shot and it was great I did. I really liked their food, place was clean, service although the server didn't speak much English he understood my needs whenever I needed him. In general I was very pleased and I will definitely come back in the future. I wouldn't say it's pricy considering it is a buffet that serves seafood but just be ready to spend around $20 per person depending on the day of the week and what tine it is. The quality of this place is really impressive. Crab legs, shrimp, good quality sushi, decent seafood items, and CLEAN. Some times they grill up short ribs which are DIVINE. Come hungry and have a blast! Now that's not to say this place is perfect. Sometime the sushi is of questionable quality. Some dishes aren't always hot (to be expected of some entrees at buffets). The customers here are downright pushy (not like the restaurant can help this but just be warned). You can see how bad humanity can become when they bring out fresh crab legs. The dining area is atrocious. Too cramped! You constantly have people walking behind you when there's barely any room to walk, the dining area is always packed to the brim. The bussers and cooks do a great job though, always cleaning, always bringing out new food and clean dishes, always looking exhausted so I try to thank them when possible. The worst thing about this place though - when there's a huge wait, hostesses and waitresses will almost force you out. Once we were done with our meal and paid up, a hostess actually came over to say "could you please leave now, people are waiting and they're very hungry." I don't give a damn if people are waiting and hungry, we had to wait just like everyone else! Forget staying seated while eating dessert. She even pulled my mother's chair out and handed her jacket while we waited for my father whom was in the bathroom! Looking beyond it's flaws, I still really enjoy the food here. We took our family out for lunch here and it turned out to be a huge mistake. I have an aunt who accidentally grabbed some "dinner" items as we were eating. An employee came after her YELLING and made a public display of her mistake, making her seem as though she was a thief when it was an honest misunderstanding. He humiliated her in front of her family and the people we sat around. She was so red and embarrassed. We returned the plate UNTOUCHED and they served us our check before we were done eating and stood by our table until we got so uncomfortable and left. IT WAS HORRIBLE. LOTS OF CHOICES!!! lots of variety for food selection, they had oysters (cooked and raw), sushi and sashimi, crab legs, crabs, shrimps, cooked fish, korean short ribs, a grilling station (for freshly grilled stuff like chicken yakitori, steak)... it was good... great selection the service was quick at refilling our drinks, taking away our plates, checking up on us... however i would have to complain there was one waitress that handed us our drinks, 3 darks drinks and 1 clear one.. we asked which one is root beer, coke and diet coke.. she handed us extra straws and told us to try it... we also asked for extra lemons and she came back holding one slice of lemon in each hand... then dropped it in our drinks.. Since it's been years since the last time my family and I have been here we decided it was a good place to have my mothers birthday dinner. It was a weekday so we didn't make any reservations and surprisingly the place wasn't packed at all. Our party of 12 was seated immediately. I wasn't expecting much since most Asian buffets are mediocre at best but there was actually a lot more selection than I thought. Plenty of seafood (Raw oysters?! Yum!!). The servers even brought out a plate of desserts with candles while playing happy birthday on the speakers which was a very sweet gesture. The total came out to $203 - not bad at all considering we were stuffed to the rim when we left. I went on a saturday afternoon for brunch. It was pack! We sat down and server quickly came and gave us our utensils and asked us for our order of drinks. I came here for my friend's son's birthday party. Granted it is a very inexpensive buffet, but I'm still glad I didn't pay. You get what you pay for. Um, let me rephrase. You get unlimited food, but the quality is reflected in the price. The food wasn't seasoned very well (either salty or too bland), soggy, thin slices of fish on the pieces of sushi with big chunks of rice. I've been here with my mom on New Years Day. It was only 15.99 for all day and they were serving dinner all day apparently. Meaning seafood and other goodies were all out. My mom raves about how cheap this place is and "quality" stuff you get for it. The whole time I had this look of disappointment and she totally noticed it. It's not great. It's ok. Yes, there's different seafood selection from stir fry clams, steam oysters, crab legs, and even some sushi items. But all stuff that's not very high on quality freshness meter for my standards. I sound like a total snob but really it's only 'cuz I'm super sensitive to non-fresh food...especially seafood. Meaning if it's been flash frozen, or even just been been shipped and reheated my body will breakout in hives and tell me it's not fresh. So....for buffets especially, I try not to risk that whole all out eating seafood items since it's been out for awhile unless it keeps getting replenished and the likelihood that all items are fresh catch of the day are slim. Sushi itself is a major factor. Given they only had a few sashimi items and the rest were variations on california rolls I wasn't impressed. I definitely would go to Tomi over this place any day. Yes, it's pricier but I just don't want to risk it. Plus, at Tomi there's more selection besides seafood so I don't have to choose to take my chances on questionable sushi although I know I've been at Tomi plenty of times and never been sick or broke out in hives from it. My mom thinks I'm a snob. I just go for quality. I'm not THAT Asian...I'll pay up several more bucks for more and better food. read more

At first I expected oh its one of those Chinese Buffets that have a lot of really crappy food, but Milpitas Buffet surprized me with the variety of foods and not bad tasting might I add. I give them hands down the best Chinese Buffet sushi at 15$ all you can eat. It was fresh and they had Sashimi. Another notable thing about this place were the workers, who were very attentative and cleaned up the plates with quickness. A rather clean environment compared to other Buffets I have been too which is always a plus. Definitely worth a try!! read more

Maybe it was because I was super hungry or either my expectations were low but I actually enjoyed dining here... It was around $15 for Sunday lunch but I think it would have been better to come for the $8 weekday lunch instead. There wasn't much sushi but more of Chinese generic food such as fried rice, terriyaki chicken, fried shrimp, chow mein, etc. They had dim sum which was a suprise. The snail, sashimi, chow mein, and oyster was yummy to me at least. Fruits were also fresh when I went and the coffee cake eaten with the almond cookie was fantastic. My experience was terrible! The reason it is so terrible is because of a cook that works there. He called me fat and obese hurling insult after insult when all I wanted was to get food. He dictated I could only get two plates of food when I paid for unlimited food. This is a buffet, what right does a cook have on telling me how much I can or cannot eat? To make matters worse when I complained to the manager, the manager didn't promise me anything except that he would "talk" to the cook. He didnt promise the cook would get fired or even penalized for body shaming me at a buffet where people pay to eat as much as they can or even for constraining me from eating as much as I paid for. I hate the service there. They do not know how to value a repeating customer. They do not even know the basic manners you should know how to treat humans with. I greatly advise no one should come here anymore with the current staff. Their mediocre food is not worth the kind of mistreatment I was given. I would rather go to a more expensive buffet that knows how to value and treat customers than to go back to that hate filled facility. If you go please know I warned you about the staffs' uncontrolled hositilty. Honestly you couldnt even pay me to go back there. Overall, if I could give a place zero stars, I would give Milpitas buffet a zero. Seriously, I should even sue them for the emotional and mental trauma they gave me. I arrived at 11:45 am. After three plates from the cook I got the check around 12:15. Afterwards, I went up to get another plate from the cook (because why not? One payment is good for your whole stay here and I felt I still had room for more,) so I made my plate of chicken, noodles and mushrooms. I was harrased by the cook. He called me fat and obese. That I constantly come to the fry area and hog up all the ingredients. I was confused from this. When I first arrived the majority of the ingredients were empty and asked if they can refill. The cook gave me a look and I thought nothing to it. So after some I froze, I asked why? His response was that Im the reason he cant cook for the buffet. "How is that my fault when all I got was three plates?". His response was "you are only allowed two per customer". Really?! This is a buffet and your only position is to cook the food/ingredients customer serve themselves. I was hurt, offended, angry, and baffled. Then I spoke about the incident to the manager and he said he would look into it and talk to the cook. Before I left I did the only thing I could do, I tipped the waitress. I've been here twice now. Once for lunch and once for dinner. When we went for lunch, it was insane. There was a long line and we waited for what seemed like forever. But for the most part we had a good time and the food wasn't bad at all. There were somethings that I tried that I didn't like, but that's just me. I think when we came here for dinner it was a lot better. It wasn't as packed. There was no line, and the food selection seemed to be better. I love the crab legs here and the little Hawaiian bbq section was awesome. The reason I'm not giving them 5 star is because there were a number of empty trays all the time. It took them quite awhile to refill them with food. Also there setup is kind of crowded. The chairs and tables are just a little too close for comfort. You would think knowing that it's a buffet and you would probably get up more than a couple times that there would be plenty of space to walk through... Also, it gets pretty noisy here. I actually didn't know this place exsited until I was invited here for lunch. A friend of mine had booked a section of the restaurant for a reception lunch at 1 pm. My friends & I were asked to arrive ahead of time to ensure that the tables were set-up properly. We got there around 12 pm. As we arrived I met Fanny. She was the person helping with the coordination. She asked when the rest of the party would arrive & I told her that I would inform her as soon as they were on their way. She showed us to our section & said that if we needed the smaller section she would clear out the customers. Little did I know that both sections were to be reserved from the get go. Thanks a lot Fanny! Fanny left us with a waiter & he was suppose to help us out. He asked us when the rest of the customers would arrive & we told him that we would let them know. We wanted 2 rows of 20 chairs to be set-up for the family. That's not too much to ask for is it? Well he had a hard time comprehending what I was asking him to do. So we ended up rearranging the tables ourselves. Aren't men suppose to be gentlemen? Maybe not in his case. I then asked him if he had reservation plaques & he kept directing me to the dessert section. WTF? He did that a couple of times so I ended up just going to Fanny. She was able to provide me with 4 plaques. Fanny then asked me what the ocassion was for & I mentioned it was for a funeral. You would think that they would be more sensitive to that, but no, that didn't stop them. They had to have asked at least 3 more times. I understand that they need to make money & had customers waiting, but if they knew how to coordinate their space & time better they wouldn't have had this problem. Would I come back...EEK! This place is relatively pretty good as Chinese buffets go...I give it four stars for being a better buffet relative to other Chinese buffets. I try not to eat Chinese buffets when I can help it but my coworkers ALWAYS want to go here for any obligatory, celebratory occasion. Ugh. If it had to be a Chinese buffet I'm glad it's this one. This place is always packed during weekdays lunch especially from Thursdays to Sundays. Not sure about dinners but just make a reservation before you go, especially if your group is greater than four... It can be quite a wait. The service is fast, accommodating and to the point. They're always busy; they want people eating right away, pay, then leave to make room for more customers. There's a definitely fast paced " shovel food into your face" vibe. But then again it might just be me and my own twisted perceptions of all buffets and copious amounts of food... The sushi is pretty good! Not as much of a variety as tomi sushi but it is tastyy. They have a Mongolian grill. Dim sum. Soups. And extensive salad and fruit bar. Chinese fried food galore. Fried fish filets, crab Rangoon, chicken wings(so good) , eggrolls, bananas and many more. My favorites are the roasted chicken, egg tart, grilled chicken skewer, grilled corn, grilled sardine, fried crab! Clams, fried shrimp! I was excited to try this place, and had convinced myself it would be THE Chinese buffet I've been looking for. I was hoping for a large selection of delicious foods similar to what you'd find on the east coast. Sadly this was only mediocre. There was a decently large selection if you like seafood and sushi. We don't. My husband was disappointed at the very small offerings of the chicken/beef/pork variety. I was moderately satisfied with the lo mein, egg rolls, fried rice, string beans, and other vegetarian standards. Everything was just meh. And also no sugar donut things! Why isn't that standard on the west coast? That's why we go there! Oh well. I'm glad we had a coupon which came in the mail the other day. And I'm glad it's really close by. I always love coming to this place with my family. We usually dine here when we celebrate a birthday or some other special occasion. I came here yesterday with my sisters and uncle to celebrate my (deceased) grandmother's birthday like we do every year. Everytime I come here, I'm always surprised that the trays are full of food. I love that once they see a tray is empty, they replace it with food right away! The food was hot and fresh when we got there, so we came at a very good time (it was like a little after 6PM?) to eat here. I love their cheese covered mussels (OMGGG SO GOOD), honey walnut prawns, beef brocolli. I don't know what it is about this place, but it's just so nice to eat at a buffet that actually replenishes their trays with hot & fresh food, unlike other Chinese buffets (cough cough World Gourmet in Fremont). The prices are pretty cheep but not all the food is good. Every time I go, the bbq ribs are always undercooked or they leave all the fat still in it and the meat to bone ratio is low. They always have more bone then meat and that's honestly ridicules. A couple things that really need to change is that the waiters are just looking at you while you eat and that seriously is creepy. Lots of choice - a dim sum area, a sushi area, a Hawaiian BBQ area, a seafood area, a dessert area, a salad area, a regular chinese food area and an area where everything that didn't fit into one of the above areas went. This latter area include donuts, french fries, fried banana and chicken wings. Some food was good, some just OK, nothing was bad. Temperature of the different hot items left a little to be desired - some nice and hot, some only lukewarm. The cream puffs' cream wasn't very creamy - not good. Two plates of savory food and one plate of dessert later and I'm full. This place is nothing special from a taste point of view, but it has a large variety of choices, nothing I tried tasted bad and all for $7.99 a person for lunch - hard to argue with that combination. read more

It's a buffet, so that should immediately give you an indication of the food quality. However, compared to other buffets in the same price range, the food here is actually pretty decent. Of course, if you're craving any one thing in particular - Chinese, sushi, ribs, seafood, etc. - you're better off going somewhere else. None of the food is spectacular, but overall it's serviceable, and even good by buffet standards. Plus you get a pretty good mix of different kinds of food. It's also hilarious that if you let them know it's your birthday, they'll bring you dessert while an awesomely fobby (and orchestrated!) version of 'happy birthday' blares over the PA system. Of course, the dessert is available in the actual buffet area, but it's a nice effort, regardless. All in all, a good buffet place. Decor is nice, prices are reasonable; but the biggest surprise is the quality and sheer diversity of selection. Even the salad bar portion had a great variety of choices. Good seafood, steamed buns, and it's the only buffet that I've been to that had edamame. One complaint I do have is, for all of the types of sushi rolls they had, approximately 70% of the rolls contained avocado; which isn't an issue if you're a big fan of avocado, or greatly enjoy western/California style sushi, but if you are allergic to avocado, as I am, then their sushi selection is pretty disappointing. So I would say, don't let the location, or the lackluster choice of name deter you from trying this buffet. read more

I come here about once a month for lunch on the weekdays. It gets packed at noon with people crowded in the front area waiting to be seated. So I suggest getting there before the lunch rush. For $8 it is an awesome deal. The crab legs are great some days and salty others. You just have to go there on a good day. Those seem to be the favorite. The employees can't seem to keep the tray full. Once the crab legs hit the hot tray, people grab them immediately. People even stand there and wait for the crab. The sushi is just OK. What do you expect from a buffet? I really enjoy the chicken wings, egg rolls, seafood and the pot stickers. They serve the usual entrees like beef and broccoli (the broccoli is always fresh!), lemon chicken (not that good), chow mien, etc... My absolute favorite is the desserts! Trams especially! I was blown away at how creamy it was. It melts in your mouth! I would come here just for the trams. In my opinion, the trams itself is worth the $8 lunch buffet. Came there last week for the first time during dinner. There were a varieties of selection which included: seafood (crabs, crab legs, crawfish, ect..), sushi, bbq food and much more. I mostly came there for the seafood. Tasted pretty good. Much better than yummy buffet or other buffet in the area. Service was pretty good. They came and take the plates off our table every time. Food= good and clean Service= great Price= $13.99 not bad for the food you get. Overall I give a 4 star. I would definitely recommend this place, especially buffets are known to have crappy food. Not the fondest of buffets, but I always seem to find myself here at almost everyone's reception for every occasion. I'm surprised this is my first review/check in at this place. Well first off they do have some pretty good food here, but nothing new that you can't find at any other chinese food buffet, so really nothing special about this place. Sushi here is ehhh, but hey, can't expect much at a buffet place that their specialty is just trying to feed people with cheap food. Yea I said cheap food, but it was good cheap food.
