Just moved to the area and was happy at first to see there was a vintage diner in town. The first time I tried the diner, I loved the atmosphere, but the waiters/waitresses couldn't be ruder. The first time I went in I went to the counter, and the waitress (middle aged, dark brown hair pulled back in a pony tail) was texting someone. She ignored me for about thirty seconds until she finished texting (!) and never said hello. She handed me a menu and was obviously in a bad mood. Terrible start. The next time I went, I sat at a booth, and ordered a hot turkey dinner (one of their regular dinner items). The dinner was supposed to come with stuffing. Instead, the turkey was served as a hot turkey sandwich over white bread with gravy. I pointed out they were missing the dressing. In about five minutes the waiter brought me a plate of "dressing" that was so disgusting I couldn't believe it. It was nothing more than cut up white bread and it clearly had been fried in grease - or worse, grease had been poured over it. I told the waiter it was inedible and he shrugged and said "sorry" and then went on his merry way. What a horrible place. read more

Good Diner food. As a returning local, I stick with the breakfast menu which is served all day. If you're looking for frou-frou, then go to one of the frou-frou places that have popped up in the area in the last 15 to 20 years. The Diner is where locals go to gab, realx, read a newspaper over coffee and meet up with a friend. It's the kind of place that you tend to see run over by a chain restaurant. My Mom ate there, my grandparents ate there and on occasion, we ALL eat there when we are back in town together. I don't understand the mediocre reviews of this diner. A large group of us went here for lunch after our kids played a hockey game at the school and it blew many of the diners in Westchester away. The service was friendly, the food was terrific and the setting was what I remembered diners to be like when I was younger. We had to drive through Millbrook several times a day during a long weekend and saw locals packing this place at all hours. Although it looks like your typical Jersey diner, the food and the value are outstanding. Husband had lemon chicken, which came with a fresh salad and choice of vegetables cooked just right. My Italian panini on rosemary bread with grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and basil pesto would cost several dollars more where I live in New Jersey and not be as amazingly good. Moreover, it came with a large portion of spring greens that appeared to be local (there had been a farmers market that morning). Altogether a great experience. read more

Come here to see what all the talking is about. Come here ready to get into a friendly conversation with the people at the table next to you or at the counter. Come here for prompt, genuinely friendly service and an ambiance that is more comforting than Xanax; but by all means come here for the soup. The fresh, homemade vegetable soup is a revelation (get the BIG bowl,) and the tomato soup is something Campbell's could only aspire towards. the food is diner food, fresh, homemade and good, but don't expect nouvelle cuisine - you don't come here for that. The desserts are homemade, simple and tasty, the owner is right there and has been smiling for the four years I've been going there. I am a local myself, and I can say without bias that the Millbrook diner is nothing more than average. The food is average, the service is average. Not much more than that to say. I can name two nearby diners that I would prefer to eat at, as the food tastes better and is higher quality, but if you're in the mood to satisfy a craving for diner food, this place does the job. read more

I live in NYC and lived in Millbrook for a few yrs and thought the place was great! I grew up in NYC and have spent my whole life in Manhattan. The first time I went to the Diner, I met James Cagney outside parking his car to go to the local post office. I almost died on the spot as he was my favorite actor and always will be. I walked into the diner and was transported back to the Happy Days era of long ago. This is a Diner people, not the Four Seasons! This is the way it should be and the food is not that bad at all. I ate there many times after that and always had a pleasant time there. I moved back to the City and believe it or not miss the Millbrook Diner. My last trip there, they were kind enough to give me a menu which I have wood stained in my kitchen in New York. I glance up at it every day and remember the Millbrook Diner with great fondness! I was kind of iffy about this place, it looked ancient it had a weird wooden statue of a woman in a green dress out front, but I'm glad we went here. reasonablly priced, solid diner fare. Fried zucchini sticks were a nice alternative to frenchfries you get everywhere else. The food was fresh and tasty, I ate it all! read more
