This place is so deceptively big! It looks from the outside there's room for like, five people but there are multiple tables and a bar area. The restroom have doors like two feet apart, but are huge inside. The food is very good. They have a breakfast, lunch, and special menu. I has the special soup and eggs breakfast. The soup did come out cold, and the waiters swapped it with a hot version right away so no harm, no foul. It was honestly good cold and even better hot. I would love to go again! Our group of 20 or so cyclists arrived very spaced out over the course of an hour or so for lunch yesterday. The first people to arrived messages the group and advised us to order food to go so as not to take up table staff. The man taking our orders was gruff and unpleasant, regardless, we all tipped well. When our leader went back to thank him for accommodating us he we told, with other customers witnessing, not to bother coming back. Overall one of the most unwelcoming and unprofessional establishments I've had the misfortune to visit. read more

This experience was a crappy lesson of looks can be deceiving. Not every busted looking establishment is bad, and not every aesthetically pleasing one is good. While this wasn't a shiny turd, the food was above average at best but pricey (like everything else is), and it's unwelcoming if you're not a local. I drive twice a week from Danbury to great barrington. I was curious about this place for awhile and finally stopped in. The parking is terrible. Only like 10 spaces. if it's full you have to pull over by the mohawk trail which can be dangerous because of how fast people drive on this often quiet road and it can get busy. Had a sausage egg and cheese on a bagel that was an additional $2 because I didn't want the English muffin and 2 smallish hash browns. The only meat substitute was vegan sausage please consider having turkey products. It was decent, above average but I would not go out of my way to return. Also had a loaded rice krispie which was good. The service was suuuper slow and I was getting increasingly uncomfortable. If you don't want outsiders here, pick up the pace so they can get their food and go! Go here if you're hungry from a hike, but pass this if you're a weary and hungry traveler or from out of state/outside the area. It's a shame because the interior is quite gorgeous and if not for the unfriendly locals I would have eaten inside. So it's a solid 3 to a 3.25. read more

Amazing spot to check out, especially after a nice hike! Both the smell when you walk in to the staff working, created a very welcoming environment. I ended up getting the steak sandwich w/ some of the best fries and garlic aioli. This place is excellent! Stopped here with 2 friends while hiking the CT Appalachian Trail. The staff was so accommodating. We sat outside which was so quaint and relaxing. We had several staff wait on us with ordering, bringing us food and drinks, refilling our waters and helping us pack up food for backpacking. The coffee was excellent. The servings were huge. First time here live in the area. Staff were nice. Restaurant was pretty loud and it was busy but no one was waiting for a table. It took 20+ minutes for 2 lattes. Then later on we ordered two salads and fries... after waiting 40 minutes we decided let's just take this to go. Other tables were also waiting longer than we were and NOTHING was communicated by staff during this time. When taking our salads to go we drove 10 minutes maybe less to sit and eat. When I opened my salad, my dressing was in a paper box already leaking, the strawberries were pale and colorless. To make matters worse it was on the specials menu! My friend(vegan) found a piece of bacon and a pickled onion that was not supposed to be in her salad. No silverware packed and we were not told to get it either so she ended up eating with her hands. My fries were cold and hard. Do not recommend and I will not be going back. Very disappointed. read more

My 1st time in the area and notice this little placed tucked away as we drove through. Due to horrible cell service, I took a screenshot on my map so I wouldn't miss this place on my way back. All I can say is YUM! I'm supposed to be mindful of my eating, but hey, when you get old, sometimes you need to just live more and worry less! I had the Streusel French Toast, my husband had some vegan meat breakfast sandwich and a side of pancakes. Sorry I can't remember the name of his sandwich, but the fact he ate vegan and loved it spoke volumes! He is a true carnivore. So glad we got to try this place. I can't wait for another visit there. By far the best breakfast/brunch place in the area. Mountainside Cafe is the perfect place for a fresh, delicious start to the day. The restaurant has wooden interiors and big windows with a lot of natural light. The menu has many appealing options, but we settled on the goat cheese omelette with kale pesto and tomato. The food was fresh and a delicious combination of flavors. There are also an assortment of creative coffee options that combine mochas and other additions. We asked to sit outside because of our state and we were immediately greeted with the nicest, sweetest and genuine people I've meet in years who welcomed us inside and took great care of us. The salad was beautiful and tasted as good as it looked and the soup was very flavorful with a lot of sausage bits. We finished the meal off with the cookie and it was the chunky crunchy type - might want to get something else if you like yours soft and chewy. Overall, we felt it was a well balanced meal with good portions. Experience: We went on a Saturday around 1:30 pm and it fairly busy. There were still open tables so we got set up there. The interior is super cute and has a real homey vibe to it. Service is good and the place is clean. Def worth a trip if you're in the area! Just left there. Previously the service has been great and food exceptional. Today we waited over a hour for our food. Because we sat outside I specifically asked the server how will I know when it is ready. He told me they would bring it out to me. We waited and waited. After An hour and 10 minutes I got disgusted and went in. The food was sitting in a bag on the counter and the same guy who took the order acted like he knew nothing about it. Also my son asked specifically what was in a certain menu item and the server specifically said it contained egg. No egg in it when it arrived. I asked what kind of bread they had for toast and he rattled off various types including an English muffin, which I chose. It was $2.00 more with no butter included.
