Oh my! The day before I came here, I asked Siri what food Connecticut is known for and one of the items listed was Philly cheesesteaks.... I got one here and it was so so delicious! Man! So glad I came here and got that. Yum! I had to wait about 20 minutes to get it, but it was definitely worth the wait. read more

Food is always 10/10. The light and fresh wrap has been my go to, along with a classic bagel and lox situation. Although I find it a bit uppity to charge separately for onions and capers. If you don't mind a wait, this place is for you. Sometimes it takes a while to receive what you've ordered that's why u gave this 4/5. Cute little shop, same with the store next door read more

We stopped in Saturday afternoon for a coffee and discovered this super cute little coffee shop and cafe offering pastries, muffins, scones, sandwiches, coffee and hot teas to name a few. It's very quaint inside with numerous tables, free WiFi, clean restrooms as well as spotless dining area. Outside there is a deck where you can see a beautiful waterfall. Our coffees were good but the hot teas were incredible. I had the chamomile hot tea which also has apple and had them put in a slice of lemon. It was so good, we returned later for another round and bought a tin of there chamomile tea. Service was exceptional, especially since one server was doing it while in a sling on one arm. She was so friendly, helpful and professional. Come here for a treat. read more

We stopped here on a day trip to the area and it's easily the cutest cafe in CT! They are right across from Smithy Market and carry some lovely looking prepared foods and have a great selection of drinks and bakery items to choose from. My husband got their seasonal tiramisu latte and it was one of the best lattes we've ever had and tasted exactly like a tiramisu! I also got a cappuccino which was perfect for a chilly day. They are currently closed for winter break but we will absolutely be back to enjoy new seasonal items and the beautiful space and kind staff. read more

This place is adorable and delicious! I got the goat cheese and fig salad that was large and had so many good flavors. My husband got a sandwich on their specials menu that I believe was an Italian sandwich and he enjoyed it too. The decor is super cute and the employees are as friendly as they come. read more

Cute atmosphere, lovely picnic benches outside to sit on. Looks like they make the most of the parking in the front area and there is a cute market across the street for breads and a few fresh items. Lovely little gift shop. Also, the service was great. It was quick they look like hard workers in the kitchen and the girl at the front was sweet. She actually smiled, which is hard to find these days. read more

We visited during the Music on Main on a Saturday evening in August and it was SO pleasant. Live music outside- a great local band performing mellow Jazz tunes- as we sat at a picnic table with the sun going down and the warm temperatures easing. We enjoyed the tacos from the cafe, a beef brisket and mojo pork in soft corn tortillas, packed with flavor. Later we enjoyed a tiramisu and cheesecake for dessert. Delicious! I really hope 9 Main Cafe continues to offer this on Saturday nights. It was the perfect way to spend a weekend evening in New Preston. read more

We arrived just after 11 a.m. on a Friday planning to order breakfast. Unfortunately, we were abruptly informed that breakfast had ended at 11 -- not by the kind young woman taking our order, but by the man hovering behind her, who cut us off mid-order. It would be helpful if the breakfast cutoff time was clearly listed on the menu or online, as we weren't aware of it beforehand. read more

First, it's adorable both in and out. I ordered grill chicken which I had to ask to have warmed through because otherwise it was being given to me cold. Along with the chicken, I ordered the artichoke and tomato salad on the side. Both the chicken and salad were fresh and tasty. It was a very satisfying and healthy lunch. I probably should have stopped there but because I LOVE coffee, I decided to get a latte and not just any latte but the honey vanilla latte on their specials menu with pink-lavender vanilla cold foam. I was told that this drink's default size is a small whereas the mocha latte my friend ordered had a default size of large. Okay... my latte came out to nearly $10. Yup, $10 for a small while my friend's large mocha was roughly $5. I love trying new things and was hoping this latte would knock my socks off but sadly it did not. My socks stayed securely on my feet as I drank this expensive concoction. First, they used a syrup which you can see laying at the bottom of the cup separated from the coffee. I mixed it as best as I could to try to taste the drink as intended. Sadly, I did not taste the lavender nor did I taste honey. I did taste vanilla however the bitterness of the coffee hijacked that simple flavor. It's a cute place to try but I can't say that I'd trek back out there purposely to get a coffee there. I shouldn't of had to ask for my grilled chicken to be heated through as that is something that is expected. Who eats cold grilled chicken? A little more effort from this establishment and a watchful eye on their prices would definitely bring this charming spot up to 5 stars. Till then, they are 3/5 stars in my book. read more

When your cafe has outdoor seating with a stealthy great view of a beautiful waterfall, you probably don't have to have great food. But the Smithy Cafe (with a cool market across the street) has great sandwiches worthy of a day trip when combined with other things in the area (driving from Hartford, you'll also pass the outstanding Arethusa ice cream and Bantam Bread Co., and you're almost to Kent Falls Brewing). My grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and bacon jam was very good, but I have to admit that I straight up abandoned it for my wife's French dip when she tapped out. If you've ever had an Italian beef in Chicago, it was really a cross between that and a French dip and hit all the right soft, crunchy, spicy, tangy, umami buttons. Their market across the street had good stuff too - including great artisan local sour dough. read more

Would I go back? YES. This cute country cafe / luncheonette is the perfect pit stop after a morning in the Litchfield Hills. I ordered the roast beef and provolone sandwich and it was THE LARGEST ROAST BEEF sandwich of my life and I'm embarrassed to say I ate the entire thing -- it was so delicious. The crusty baguette it came on, together with the aioli dressing made this 4" thick creation a mindblower. read more

Loved Smithy Café! Classic and quintessential New England charm, the place is just adorable with gorgeous windows, views, and seating areas. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing- very hearty, two eggs, plenty of bacon or sausage, and well seasoned. You could see the cracked black pepper. So delicious. I loved my peppermint mocha latte as well. Service was great- very friendly, food was made to order and came out in a very timely manner. It was brought to our table. Cannot wait to come back to try other breakfast item, maybe some bakery treats, and definitely lunch! 10/10 :) read more

Recommended by a friend. Ordered soups, Broccoli cheese, friend said tasted like tap water. I had the butternut apple soup, I should have known upon first glance, dark brown, not the usual golden color, again watery tasteless . My meatball Parmesan sandwich was two small whole meatballs on a hoagie roll. Uneatable. read more

Horrible service. Way overpriced food and an owner who is downright mean. I don't get it. How do they stay in business?

This adorable cafe in its adorable town was a warm and cozy haven - I got the fig grilled sandwich, and my husband the pumpkin burrito. Both were delicious, though I found the sandwich a bit small for the price. The view and atmosphere, however, are great! read more

This essential local food spot (even more essential since the unfortunate loss of HVE) has re-opened to the public after major facelift, change of ownership and passed the first and most important taste test - the BEC - with flying colors. Best breakfast sandwich for miles (though I have not yet tried the soon to re-open "PO" on The Green so not a final vote). Really excellent. Hard roll soft, bacon and eggs spot on. Whatever that melty 'velveeta-like' cheese is, it's a keeper. Might give up cheddar..:) Coffee also very good. No eat in (and it is a soft opening so be patient) but if you've been jonesing for a breakfast sandwich ever since the Nine Main glory days like my foody kiddoes and I have you should give it a try. read more
