We ordered off the Prix Fixe menu of $50 for three courses. Starting with the very green potato leak soup, it was so tasty. For the entree, I had the Roasted steelhead trout, Trevino, baby leeks, chanterelles and trout roe butter blanc and the flavors were fantastic. For dessert, I ended with the "chocolate dessert," which was a brownie loaded with layers of chocolate and nuts - one of the best desserts I've ever tasted! Our server was terrific. He was so attentive and took great care of our party of four. I was impressed that he went into the kitchen to ask how the mushroom special was seasoned (just salt and pepper) in response to a question from our table. A very cozy place for dinner and I'm really glad we checked it out in West Cornwall.

ORIGIN: The Pink House opened during the summer of 2024 in a…read morered barn that is positioned on a lot that includes a striking late 19th century home that was once known as the Pink House. It is part of a sequence of efforts to revitalize and develop West Cornwall into a destination location. The current project is being spearheaded by Marina Munuz, who recently moved to the town with her family and has a background in the fashion industry. LOCATION: With a location just across the street from a red covered bridge, a burbling tree-lined river, and mountains, the town in which the Pink House is located has many noteworthy features that surely beckon a visit. ATMOSPHERE: The red barn-like building that currently houses the restaurant is surrounded by a patio with umbrella-shaded tables. The interior is filled with sunlight and simply yet eclectically decorated with a mix of modern and country furniture. Subtle touches of pink are scattered across the dining area, which is divided by a large pine community table. FOOD: I chose to try the smoked steelhead trout since it was a more uncommon item for brunch and a similar dish is offered as a first course on the dinner menu. Whipped egg white draped a long thick slice of lightly grilled bread. Topping the egg layer were chunks of salmon colored smoked steelhead trout, golden smoked trout roe, shaves of pickled onions, and dill fronds. A glass pot of Earl Grey tea accompanied the dish. The combination was perfection -- attractive, bursting with complementing flavors and textures, and interesting. After being surprised by the brilliance of this dish, I investigated who is leading the kitchen. I found Gabe McMackin, who returned to his native Litchfield Hills after many years working in a Michelin-recognized restaurant in Brooklyn (The Finch), is the Managing Partner and Chef. I look forward to returning during dinner service. SERVICE: The server, Krisdee, was very friendly and provided guidance on the new brunch menu. The only hiccup was that the hostess seated us at a narrow and relatively dark cafe table next to the kitchen service door. Given that the restaurant had one other table occupied (we arrived for brunch, for which service only started that month) and we had arrived one hour before closing, it seemed needless for us to be positioned there. (We later asked the server if it was okay for us to move to the empty community table, which we did.) TIP: The tea is served in a glass pot, for which there is no mechanism to remove the brewed leaves. As a result the beverage becomes bitter over time. If you choose to order hot tea and anticipate sipping it over the course of a relaxing brunch, I suggest asking for a large mug to pour the steeped liquid.

Soups are a treat during the winter (great chowders) and turkey BLT a favorite at lunch. Are always trying new additions to the menu which is a plus. What a WONDERFUL little throw-back of a diner! The servers are absolutely charming (thank you to…read morethe beautiful, jewelry-making Christina), pricing is circa 1995, there's a great children's menu -- and there is clearly some skill in this kitchen, generally. I love that you get unlimited refills on coffee ($2), which was actually quite decent by diner standards. Where else can you find that nowadays?! Eggs were well prepared and fluffy across the board. I loved that my veggie omelet ($8.75) came generously filled with sauteed mushrooms, sweet peppers, and onions. It came with toast and a side of either fruit or home fries. The multigrain, which our server disclosed was from a bakery in NY, was fresh, well slathered with butter, and far better than it had to be as a non-headline component of the meal. Home fries were beautifully seasoned, though I do prefer mine a little more browned. Fruit salad on our visit included a slice of melon, a few grapes and a slice of orange. Our eight year old got a children's meal with one egg, home fries, toast and juice ($4.50). She enjoyed her fluffy scrambled eggs, which she ate sandwiched between two halves of a generously buttered English muffin. My only nitpick: You could taste a touch of margarine in the eggs, which I personally detest. Still, the food was head and shoulders better than (and half as expensive as) anything you can find at Mohawk Mountain, where we are usually resigned to grub. We are so, so thrilled to find this sweet little place a hop and a skip away from the mountain. It's a perfect place to refuel after early morning ski practice!

If I could give 6 stars, I would. Adi, the owner of the…read morerestaurant, is all over the place, greeting people, schmoozing with people, taking and serving orders. At first I thought it was just our table because the local friends who brought us here have been before but she was chatting at every table. The food is superb. Maybe I'm a little biased, I'm a huge fan of Middle Eastern food, but I've had this cuisine in NYC and in other places. One of our friends ordered shakshuka, tried and true. I went in with the same intention but then I saw the Báladi breakfast. OMG, a lot of very very good food! My husband and our other friend also had the Báladi breakfast. It's a bit customizable in that you choose what kind of eggs you prefer. I chose the green omelet which is loaded with fresh dill. Hubs had scrambled with mushrooms, friend had omelet with onions. Everyone was more than pleased. For the table (hungry table, lol) we ordered the cheese boureka complet. Each entrée, shakshuka and Báladi breakfast and boureka, comes with a board filled with what I'd call salatim - mini-dishes with assorted items. There was Israeli chopped salad, green tahini, carrot salad (w cranberries instead of raisins), eggplant salad, frena (warm excellent mini-loaf of bread), and more. SO much food to appreciate and all made in-house, fresh and delicious. We're looking forward to visiting these friends again next summer and eating at Baladi again! Too bad we don't live nearby! The coffee is full-bodied, strong but not bitter, served in a large mug.
