We arrived and sat outside on the terrace. The road nearby was not too loud and the terrace was great shade on a warm day. We ordered gazpacho, ratatouille, onion soup, and clams linguini. Importantly, I almost NEVER order clams at restaurants. My family and I dig and eat at least a thousand clams a year in Rhode Island and I always assume and expect that no place can prepare them as well or as freshly. When the dish arrived I saw three cherrystones on top and figured this would be a small plate for a big price. I was completely wrong. The dish was better than anything I've made or had out. Full of tender chopped clams, the flavor and sauce were superb and the bread was excellent. We finished the meal with the pastry desert (cream puff with ice cream and chocolate sauce) and a merengue floating on a vanilla sauce. Both were wonderful. The service was great- Emelina (?) was very attentive and gave us spot on advice (and some basic French lessons) with a smile. The owner, Rober, also stopped by to make sure our experience was good. I would recommend strongly to anyone in the area who appreciates fine dining without too much fuss or to anyone wondering what French food is really like.

We reserved a private room for our lunch party, which made the whole visit feel relaxed and personal. We started with pots of Peach White Tea and Salted Caramel Black Tea -- both brewed perfectly and a great way to ease into the afternoon. For appetizers, the Tea Cheese Toasts were very yummy, but the Okonomi Tater Tots absolutely stole the show. Tater tots with okonomi sauce, Kewpie mayo, furikake, and scallions shouldn't be allowed to be this good. Our sandwiches -- the Croque Monsieur and the Teagan -- were delightful and well executed. And then came the scones. Warm, tender, and served with clotted cream and strawberry jam, they were the perfect finish. Service throughout lunch was impeccable, attentive without ever feeling rushed. After eating, we headed into the shop for a tasting and some browsing. The tasting room team guided us through Winter White Earl Grey, Rose Scented, Scottish Morn, and Pu‑Erh, helping us zero in on teas we'd love. The shop itself is beautifully organized, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We've been fans of Harney & Sons for years, and this visit reminded us exactly why we keep coming back. Great food, world‑class tea, warm service, and a destination worth traveling for. We love this place and will absolutely be back again.

The owner, Gary Kidd, goes out of his way to make it a destination with activities for kids and adults - photo booth, board games inside, outside games, and a winter igloo outside currently. Their handcrafted chocolates are phenomenal and there are all kinds of drinks to pair with them - coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bobo tea and specialty drinks that are named after local spots (including the three independent schools in town). Ice cream is served year round. The ever-changing decorations inside are not to be missed - the Harry Potter theme one was particularly great with clouds suspended from the ceiling along with wands and other things throughout the store. Make plans to visit Kent and stop by.

Everyone seems to use pretty much the same recipe with some slight variations. The muffins I had here were weird. I don't know what that dominant spice they used is but it was really kind of awful. Weird is just the only word I can think of to describe it. And the muffin was not dense at all. It kind of fell apart when you bit into it. I took a "sour cherry" pastry home snd it was ok. The apricot scone was bleh. I think this place will be a skip in the future.

However, they were out of a lot of bakery items by noon, so I'd recommend getting there early on the weekends. I went for the Smoked salmon bagel, and I kid you not, it was a religious experience. By far, the best jalapeño cheddar bagel I've ever had. I don't know how they made it but angels most definitely had to be involved. Order it with the scallion cream cheese and pay the extra $0.50 for the capers, it's worth it. I don't live in the area, so I will pray to the food gods to present me with an opportunity to return & eat that sandwich again.

The name of the cafe is a reference to the proximity of the Appalachian Trail. LOCATION: The cafe is located near the town park at the beginning of charming Main Street. It is close to the Appalachian Trail, so the cafe is an especially welcoming destination for hikers. CONCEPT: Off the Trail Cafe is a place where community members, as well as visitors from afar, are welcomed to refresh, connect, and relax. EXPERIENCE: The cafe is open every day except Wednesday until 3 PM. The menu is evolving, but what is apparent is a commitment to support and showcase other businesses in the region. For example, Litchfield-based Peaches N' Cream ice cream and Millerton's Harney & Sons teas are served, and on Saturday mornings you'll find fresh donuts from North Canaan-based Pastries by Hanna in the pastry case. (Hopefully-- they don't last long!) AMBIANCE: The setting is relaxed, welcoming of all, with no pressure to leave. SERVICE: Items are ordered at the counter. TIP: The inclusion of a children's play area also highlights a value for making everybody feel welcomed to spend time in the cafe.
