Such an adorable place with really good food. Unfortunately, the service we experienced today was…read moreextremely disappointing. We ordered three sandwiches, and at the time my husband placed the order, he was the only customer there. While we were waiting, two other customers came in, clearly friends of the cook and spent time chatting with her about everything from yoga classes to NYC's Mamdami. After their conversation, they placed their order and received their food before we did, as well as before another couple who had also been waiting. It was frustrating and honestly disappointing to see others served first despite arriving later. We've visited before and had a lovely experience, which makes this even more unfortunate. I believe the woman assisting us at that time may have been the owner or a manager, which makes the situation more concerning. It's a shame because the space and food are wonderful, but today it felt like you need to personally know the cook to receive timely service.

Really cute, kitschy general store/grocery/cafe we stopped at for a bite before skiing nearby…read more Service was friendly, but it wouldn't be my first stop if I were in a rush. They had a ton of food items to peruse through while waiting for our egg sandwiches, most of which were or were made from local produce (farm location listed on the item, which I love). Sandwiches were tasty and the store itself was a lovely space with a sweet, small town vibe that earned it 4 stars; but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the astronomical pricing of everything in the place. For one egg and melted cheese on a bun, it cost $7. To add bacon to that, an additional $5. The sandwich is not large, and the $5 bacon is one slice, cut in half and folded into the center of the roll. For comparison, two eggs on a bagel with either a large sausage patty or enough bacon to cover the entire sandwich, is typically about $6-$7, in a relatively expensive locale. Another important note, the size of the breakfast resulted in both my husband and nephew having to order additional food. At $12 a pop, the sandwich should be more than enough to satisfy an average appetite. Coupled with the pricing of the other items for sale, like baked goods and $12 fresh eggs (which neighbors often give for free or $5/dozen) - it gives the impression that you're being swindled. I live in an area known for high prices, I don't expect things to be cheap. But this felt like they were pricing that high because they're one of the only shops in town and they can, and not because the items are worth that much. The food is yummy and the store is a lovely, small town-type gem that is worth a visit, but the pricing is simply unfair so expect to pay more for less.

I was super excited when I realized most of this place is vegan, but was disappointed by flavor. The mocha was okay but lacked significant flavor and the vanilla bean latte must have had actual beans used because it was also lacking flavor but had a mysterious crunch. It's a cute place, though, and maybe other items taste better....

Vegetarians rejoice!…read more Where do I start? How about with the best damn sandwich I've had in years. This place was recommended to us, as my wife and I are vegetarians. I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!

It certainly didn't hurt that the weather was beautiful and there was one outdoor table open when we arrived so we could sit with our dog by our side. Morningbird is a great fit for the area and absolutely worth visiting even if you're a town or two away. We came here around 1pm on a Saturday, on our way from Hudson to the Adirondacks. Thankfully it was on the way, allowing us to both shave off a bit of our drive and try a new spot we'd been eying for a while. Thanks to some pictures on Google, I saw that there were at least a few outdoor tables, which was important because we had our dog with us. You need to order inside but they'll bring it out to your when it's ready. Though we only spent all of five minutes indoors, I immediately loved the vibe and could picture myself hanging, reading, working here for a while. All the tables were full at this hour, but it did not seem overly packed. The coffee here is delicious, though I can only speak to the cold brew. That said, a friend of ours speaks highly of the lattes/other espresso drinks, for what it's worth. While waiting for my coffee, I perused the selection of prepared foods -- curated with a precision I've come to expect of most businesses in this area. As some have mentioned, the food at Morningbird (and the neighboring Aviary) is Asian-inspired, as are the items for sale. Expect gourmet condiments and seasoning, alongside plenty of coffee/tea and coffee/tea-related products. It's a marvel that I didn't walk out of there with five jars of chili crisp (potentially my all-time favorite condiment). Food-wise, I got the Iceberg Wedge w/ fried shiitakes, blistered sungolds, salted cashews, vegan thai green goddess dressing and my partner got the Fried Omelette and Kale over rice w/ garlic fried rice, roasted kale, crispy shallot. Every ingredient of both dishes was fresh and delicious and flavorful, and the preparations were familiar with a bit of whimsy. The prices are extremely reasonable for both items, but it's possible that it's because they're both on the smaller side as far as entrees go. Not a complaint, just worth mentioning in case you are very hungry. Service was super fast, almost impossibly so. An enjoyable experience start to finish, making Morningbird a spot we'll certainly be returning to.
