Two meat and rice combo plus an added small milk tea
    Cecilia M.

New Year new prices! The small version of the two or three meat on rice is no longer available, only the large size. I got the large two meat on rice and got the soy chicken with roasted pork for now $14.99. It's still an extra $1 to add a small milk tea or lemon tea, or $2 for a large. The large portion is definitely bigger with probably 4 to 6 pieces more meat. With inflation, it's still a decent deal to pay around $16 including tax and small tip for a full meal and small drink.

This is the ordering counter. You can also see some food prep from here.

We found this spot on Yelp as a spot that had a patio area to eat in. That was true, but it was quite full, so we took the food back to our car. It's very simple food: meats over rice. It's some of the basic comfort food of my youth. They do have some western snack options (e.g. chicken nuggets and fries) and bubble tea drinks, as well as alcohol; per the name of the restaurant, it really is a bar. I was a bit surprised to see children in a space with a lot of adults drinking and socializing. We had two two-meat rice meals: - BBQ pork and roasted duck - BBQ pork and soy chicken Each box also contained a side of gai lan -- very welcome. These were good portions, though my wife lamented that the duck was mostly bones. On the whole, though, this is good value. The bbq pork and soy chicken were both well executed and delicious. After our dinner, we returned for a mango-pineapple slush (with popping boba!) and a milk tea -- tasty and very reasonable price-wise compared to some other parts of Vancouver. Service was decent; they were pretty busy, so not a lot of time for small talk. We parked for free on the street a block away. COVID safety: In their dining room, there were too many customers in a small area for my covid safety tastes. There was no social distancing and of course, no masks. I recognize that most people have at least one vaccine dose, so that mitigates against the problem for most people, but immune suppressed people like me can't count on that. I don't blame the owners for wanting to maximize their business, but the number of times I can be in a space like that are limited to say the least. Bottom line: This was a really good experience, and I look forward to coming back. For the foreseeable future, I'd be taking it out.

I went there at 6pm. Very busy place. Food is good. But, really loud with the people drinking and tv on. Overall, good place for take out (if you are not drinking).

Who knew that Milk and Sugar would come up with a new restaurant. Located conveniently across the skytrain is a joint like no other. Bring in Milk and Sugar's bubble tea, pair that up with some Hong Kong styled BBQ meats and HK breakfasts PLUS alcohol with a pub-styled counter, the mix doesn't get more odd than this! Be sure to ask about the sizes of "bowl" and "dish" before you actually order because the plating is a little weird. The bowl option is actually served on a plate, but it does have one portion of rice and the dish is a gigantic dish so beware. The food wasn't bad but not overly stellar. Not my go-to HK BBQ joint in Vancouver but it's pretty decent and the prices are very fair. Would definitely come again if I'm in the area and need a quick dinner fix but would not trek to the area to try this out

2 roast meat (roast pork belly and bbq pork) on rice. Small portion.

I have been wanting to try the bbq meat at this place. It was not very crowded when I was there at 3+ pm. They were kept busy though as people came in and out to get the bubble tea more than the dishes at that time. I had the 2 roast meat on rice dish. I chose the roast pork belly (sio bak or siu yuk) and bbq pork (Char siu). It came with some kai lan. The char siu was hard and the sio bak was very salty at the base. Nice crispy skin though. The best part of the dish would be the vegs. I wish they also have the proper chili oil or sauce for the roast meat, not those crappy hot sauce sachets. I also ordered the roasted milk tea which was not very sweet. It was so-so milk tea. Prices seemed reasonable though I noticed they have gone up too. Maybe the other roast meat would be better than what I had.

This place exceeded my expectations! I've been past this bar many times but finally tried it last night since I needed to get a quick filling dinner for work. It is quite a weird establishment since they serve beer and there alot of people drinking around the patio. I liked how the BBQ meats were hung up like at a Chinese BBQ butcher so you can see which cuts of meats they have. I came in at 10:45pm (they close at 11:30pm) and didn't expect the food to be any good. I opted for a small size BBQ pork with rice. The rice was fresh taken out of the rice cooker and the lady chopped my bbq pork right there, I prefer when they do that because the meat isn't as dry. They also gave me a side of steamed gai lan and a large drizzle of sweet soy sauce. For $7, it was a size small but was very filling for me. The meat was not dry at all and very flavourful all throughout. The rice was a bit dry but with the sweet soy sauce it was great. I definitely will be returning to try more items here!

Tasty BBQ dishes and roasted pork. I always order their 2 meat combo with rice. I occasionally dine in when I'm too lazy to cook lunch or dinner. Other than a tad bit pricey now than it was before, but the flavourful taste are still the same.

Same great bubble tea as their location on Kingsway. This location is within walking distance to home. We are THRILLED with this new place. It's bigger and roomier. They serve more than just snacks, they serve full meals and have a full-bar. My new go-to place for Chinese comfort food!!

2 Item BBQ Plate with BBQ Pork and BBQ Duck (11.50)

I love the other location with their bubble tea specials, and when I saw that they were going to offer Breakfast AND BBQ, I just about lost it! Came here for dinner one day and the place was PACKED to the rim with people enjoying pitchers of beer, plates of BBQ Duck on rice, and onion rings. It was the strangest mix of foods, yet so beautiful. I ordered the 2 Item BBQ Plate (11.50) with BBQ Pork and BBQ Duck. The duck was AMAZING. It had very crispy skin and was super tasty without being a mouthful of oil. The BBQ Pork was very juicy and tender and had these tasty little crispy bits around the meat. I also came by on a separate visit to give their Breakfast Special (4.99 + 1.00 for coffee) a go. The one thing that struck me about this breakfast was that it was surprisingly not greasy! The fries were actually pan friend potatoes that were super crispy and had a light seasoning to them. The sausages were your usual breakfast fare (these were a little bit sweet actually). The owner from the other shop was so funny. I kept wanting to leave for work after paying, but he kept insisting that I drink another cup of coffee and that it was on the house. It wasn't until another customer held him up that I managed to sneak out into the world lol.

Duck and Soy chicken on rice

A cross between a Hong Kong style BBQ joint and a neighbourhood dive bar/watering hole. There isn't really a place like this and perhaps for a good reason. I'm a big fan of the original and very successful Milk & Sugar so I gave the new BBQ bar a try. REALLY wish it had at least some of the drink selection of the OG location but in reality there's very little linking the two businesses. I found the restaurant awkward and a little uninviting as there's a crowd of locals around the bar that can be quite unruly and loud. I ordered a duck and soy chicken on rice with an iced milk tea which came to about $14. Not exactly cheap in my opinion and the portion itself was smaller than I was expecting from Milk & Sugar. I didn't think either of the meats were exceptional but given the late hours of operation I didn't expect that much either. I didn't find the meat as overly salty like HK BBQ master but it's not as meaty and flavourful as Tak Fook in Parker Place either. If you're looking for a place to enjoy chinese BBQ and a beer late at night, you don't have too many options do you?

    Wayne K.

Mix the old with the new. This place used to be Bamboo cafe not so long ago. They still serve alcohol. Some of the previous patrons can be seen having a few drinks at the bar. That's great! Haven't tried much of their new menu. But, their All-day breakfast is quite good and for $5 it's hard to beat.

I've never been to their first location on Kingsway, but I've been waiting for this place to open since they put up the sign that said HK BBQ. I've tried char siu in a bunch of places in Burnaby so far and don't feel like anything has really matched Richmond quality. This place could change that! I got a take out order, and the portions were very generous, even for the small $5.99 opening special bowl. The meat is half fat half lean as I requested, and had a nice char to it here and there which many places lack- anyone who's been to HK BBQ Master knows how important the char is. The dollop of ginger scallion oil sauce on the side is a nice touch too, good for adding flavour to the rice. Minus one star because of how long the order took for them to take down, but hopefully they can smooth out that process after they've been open for a little while. Great addition to the neighbourhood!

Walked by many times and they usually have good roast pork. Their roast pork is better than most Chinese restaurants. Price was fair and would definitely come back. If the quality is the same.

This café features a fully vegan menu which is amazing for vegans and those who can't enjoy dairy comfortably! I was blown away by how the white chocolate strawberry croissant tasted nothing like it was short of eggs. The texture resembles an actual croissant and I would say the only difference lies in the flight drier/stiffer texture. There was a sweet filling inside that paired really well with the croissant, causing me to devour the whole thing in one sitting. Their drinks are standard and can served for here or to go. I love the ambiance and interior of the café. There is ample seating and space. I also love that they have a little section for kids with books and toys to keep them busy. Through the window, you can also see the baking facility that the café uses to prepare all their food. This is a wonderful spot to stop by in the neighbourhood and I'm glad my boyfriend lives close by so I can walk here on many occasions!

The menu has shrunk considerably and their business days/hours are also a lot less than what it was previously. The drinks were not as tasty as they used to be. My Blue Rose drink was the best of the bunch and I would say even that was just OK. I enjoyed the Lychee jelly in my drink. That was probably the best part of the drink. The liquid part was kinda "meh" for me. I think the best thing we ordered was the matcha soft serve ice cream. On the flip side, there was a guy playing piano there and they were taking requests. I suggested Demon Slayer and the guy played the famous "Gurenge" song by Lisa from season one of Demon Slayer. That was kinda cool. He was a very good pianist. Great way to liven the atmosphere. Also, there was a guy who came around and gave us all tiny paper cranes. It's nothing much, but still always nice to be gifted with anything at all. Business must be hard for them. It would sure be nice to see them return to how they used to be, with a bigger menu, tastier drinks and more days/hours again. We love this place for the manga/ anime vibes that it exudes, and love the Matcha soft serve ice cream they sell here. Really wanna give this place a higher rating but the drinks were really not up to par this time, and as much as we love the Matcha ice cream, it is not by itself enough to warrant giving out a higher rating. If they could just improve the quality of their drinks again...then even if they menu remains limited, at least if everything they serve is of good quality...that would be enough to merit a higher rating.
