My husband and I just returned from almost three weeks in France where we enjoyed a number of vegan bakeries. We live in the Seattle area and often drive up to Vancouver to eat yummy food! This past weekend we discovered To Live For and went twice during our short stay in BC. The croissants were FAR BETTER than those in Paris which is pretty wonderful as the distance is much closer for us!!! In Paris, we had vegan pastries many of our days there and afterwards, my hands were so oily....not at To Live For. After the delicious and crunchy croissant was devoured, my hands were dry. Amazing feature cube croissants. The first I've tried that actually maintained their crispy exterior and flakiness without being dry in the center - lovely filling and layers too! I tried the Cinnamon rolls too - I loved that the server made sure I got the more desirable middle pieces rather than the corners. Passionfruit white chocolate croissant cube (5/5) Cinnamon roll (3/5) - it was a bit more on the denser drier side despite microwaving it slightly to try to warm & revive the texture. The icing topping was ok. I had to remind myself that this was a VEGAN bakery. So no butter or eggs, which is extremely impressive to execute the pastries and creamy filling to the texture that they did. Definitely would come back for their feature pastries! read more

New hipsterish coffee shop on Renfrew, just N of 1st Avenue. Parking is available on the side streets. The place is actually quite wide but narrow. Seating is limited inside, but there are plenty of exterior seats and benches on the outside (W and N facing). The inside has a high ceilings with all the white ductwork visible. This venue also has quite a large bakery production area. Staff are friendly and professional. I must say I was skeptical as the place was vegan. Tried their flat white, as well as their Nanaimo bar. Both were absolutely delicious. I guess the only downside to the place is that it bakes in the afternoon sun because of all the large W facing windows. Talk about a pleasant surprise. I'd gladly come by again for more coffee and bakery goodness. Highly recommended. read more

I've been to a lot of vegan bakeries all over the world, and this one is in my top 3 for sure! There is so much variety, I always get overwhelmed trying to choose! But every dessert I've had here has been a 10/10. The coffee and matcha are also excellent. My only complaint is there is never enough seating and the seating is not very comfortable. read more

I've been to this cute little café a few times before but on my recent visit, I finally got to sit down and enjoy some baked goods. This café features a fully vegan menu which is amazing for vegans and those who can't enjoy dairy comfortably! I was blown away by how the white chocolate strawberry croissant tasted nothing like it was short of eggs. The texture resembles an actual croissant and I would say the only difference lies in the flight drier/stiffer texture. There was a sweet filling inside that paired really well with the croissant, causing me to devour the whole thing in one sitting. Their drinks are standard and can served for here or to go. I love the ambiance and interior of the café. There is ample seating and space. I also love that they have a little section for kids with books and toys to keep them busy. Through the window, you can also see the baking facility that the café uses to prepare all their food. This is a wonderful spot to stop by in the neighbourhood and I'm glad my boyfriend lives close by so I can walk here on many occasions! read more

Came here for lunch with a friend. I ordered a Potato Pan Pizza and a London Fog. Both were super delish. I loved how I could taste oregano in nearly every bite of my pizza, and the London Fog was as good as any regular London Fog that I might have ordered elsewhere. It never ceases to amaze me that the food here is vegan and tastes just as good or even better than a lot of non-vegan food that's out there! Hadn't been here in awhile so in addition to lunch, I bought a couple of goodies to bring home: A Black Forest Cube Croissant and a Potato Chip cookie. I remember when To Live For first started doing croissant cubes. The very first one was filled with Nutella and I managed to get a hold of one. Back then it seemed like such a showstopped and I didn't know how they could ever top that flavor. They just keep on wowing me though with their creative flavors. This Black Forest cube croissant was sooo good! Also, the Potato Chip cookie was a perfect combination of both sweetness and saltiness, plus it was nice and soft too. I like my cookies soft. Oh yes, we were living for To Live For Bakery! A long overdue rave review for one of my favorite bakeries in all of Vancouver. Is it vegan/plant-based and delicious? Yes! Is it staffed with friendly and helpful employees? Absolutely! Is it bright & modern, and does it have great ambiance? Without a doubt! I'd been following this bakery for a couple of years on IG and was so excited to finally get a chance to return to Vancouver (it had a been awhile). My hubby and I were staying in North Vancouver for his bday and made a point to visit To Live For and it instantly became one of our favorite places! The stars of the day were: * Flat White & Cappuccino (both strong & rich) * Chocolate Macadamia Banana Bread (would've loved it more without chocolate so the banana wasn't overpowered, but it was still excellent!) * Orange Creamsicle Cube Croissant (which was insanely good and surprisingly not overly sweet! Also first time trying a cube croissant and they're not easy to eat lol!) I've been visiting To Live For for about three years now, and it's hands down my favorite bakery in town. As someone who's lactose‑sensitive, it's such a relief to enjoy every single treat here without worrying about a stomach ache. Everything is 100% vegan and totally delicious! They always have featured croissants and amazing cube croissants, and I definitely love their cake cups and cinnamon buns. Their hazelnut mousse cake is incredible, and if you're a fan of Nanaimo bars, this is my favorite place to get them. They're also my go‑to spot for super cute cupcakes. They might be a little on the pricy side, but they're decorated so beautifully, and they always have themed treats for every holiday. Plus, they sell cakes of all sizes for any occasion, and their Instagram is full of gorgeous designs. Honestly, even their sandwiches--like the breakfast sandwiches and sausage rolls--are so good that you wouldn't guess they're vegan. One of those places you hear great things about and then it actually meets- or more like exceeds expectations. I tried a breakfast croissant and a savory scone with cheddar and chives. Both were delicious. Finding a savory vegan scone at all is pretty rare and this one already has me wondering when we'll meet again. Lovely minimalist decor, light and airy, friendly staff. I was on my way home when I stopped by this bakery hoping to grab a loaf of sourdough bread. It was an absolute nightmare trying to find parking so I'd be very unlikely to return for this reason alone. Definitely one of those places that makes you wish you lived within walking distance. When I asked for a loaf of sourdough, the employee looked surprised and almost laughed at me saying they were sold out and I could try the following day. I think it was about 1pm on a Saturday. Since this is not my neighbourhood, I had no idea their bread was so popular but I told her that I was just passing through and wouldn't be in the area the next day. I ordered a cheese scone to go so that the stop wasn't a total loss. Their selection of pastries wasn't very extensive but I was in the mood for something savoury so only the cheese scone appealed to me in the moment. The scone was very tasty with a nice cheesy, buttery flavour and a crisp exterior. I'd probably get this again if I ever do return. read more

I remember seeing their cookies at other cafes years ago and was finally able to check them out. We went on a Sunday towards the end of the day and it was still quite busy. We were lucky to get a seat. The floors were a bit wet and dirty from the outside snow which made it a bit uncomfortable. There was a large variety of goods available and I was really impressed everything was vegan. We got a raspberry loaf and butter tart and they were very good. I also got a carrot cake slice to go. The carrot cake was great and would get again. The other 2 I probably won't as they were a bit sweet for my personal liking. Ok, I need to preface this by saying by no means do I have a big sweet tooth; if anything it's a very mild sweet tooth. Alright, with that out of the way, I've been meaning to visit this place for a long while. Last month, I picked 2 croissants to snack on throughout the day: an almond and a pistachio. These were really good. Texture didn't feel too heavy or too light but maybe just right. The almond had that classic flavor while the pistachio was a unique mix of fresh topping plus extract/essence(?). Lots of interesting variety both sweet & savory (bookmarked!). They made a great flavored oat decaf latte using one of their "housemade" syrups I forget offhand. The staff were super cool & friendly. I also asked about recommendations based on my preferences and they happily obliged. The space is wonderfully minimalistic, clean & bright. If I had to nitpick, it'd be nice to pick at least 1 wall/ceiling as a dark earthy shade close to a green/teal. Cupcakes- so very moist and I love all the flavours Sour Dough loaf- very very nice, I like their tang, and their chewy factor. Bread stayed moist even when refrigerated in my fridge throughout the week and toasted very nicely. Salted caramel cruffin I loved this croissant! I've never had a vegan croissant before so I was really curious how this would taste and if it would be flakey enough. I was pleasantly surprised! I liked the donut glaze on top, it really made it taste like a donut although I do think the glaze was super sweet. I was meeting a friend here on a weekday morning so arrived first and was able to snag one of the last spots available. Keep in mind that this place is quite small with few seats if you plan to come during busier times! They also have a table for kids in the middle with some toys - while this is a great concept if you have kids, it does come with quite a bit of running around and screaming which wasn't my favourite. The cruffin I got was just okay in my opinion. It was filled with caramel which was tasty but the texture of the cruffin wasn't very good in my opinion as it almost tasted stale and had no flakiness to it. I'm not sure if this was just a result of the vegan ingredients or the actual recipe but I didn't really enjoy it. So happy when To Live For opened up their first location in my hood! This is a vegan friendly and dog friendly cafe with spectacular baked goods. The line moves quickly, but come in earlier during day so they don't sell out of your favourites! I got the following haul with Too Good To Go and the goods were still fresh and was not stale. I had their berry scone before and liked the savoury alternative, the "cheddar" scone even more! Sourdough baked goods are my personal favourite, and their version does not disappoint! We were in the area and decided to stop by to grab a coffee to go. The pastries and cakes looked amazing that we also ended up grabbing a raspberry matcha cube croissant as well. This is a great neighbourhood cafe. Service was fast. My latte tasted as expected. I really enjoyed the aesthetics in this cafe. The loud music, the chatty customers in the background and then people watching while I enjoyed my latte. You can also watch staff baking in the kitchen area. Cute vegan cafe! I follow them on social media, today I happen to be in the neighbourhood. I originally didn't know it was a vegan bakery. Street parking. Right away when you open the door you are greeted with fresh baked goods. Yumm. First off, I noticed the prices it was affordable, most bakeries I've been going to lately its a lot more. I ordered two croissant, one lemon meringue and a regular one to go and a small coffee just over $14! I took my coffee and sat down. Cute seating areas, also has play area and books for kids. I was introduced to To Live For through their cookies and loaf slices that you can find all around the city, but it wasn't until much later that I realized they have a cafe with a bigger selection of baked goods plus breakfast sandwiches and drinks. Everything is vegan here! It was very busy (Sunday early afternoon) and the cafe isn't very big, but lots of people were ordering to go, so I was able to get a seat at the long counter by the window. There's two tables with toys and picture books for kids, so it's very family-friendly in that regard, but between the young kids, steady crowd, and relatively loud music (loud by coffee shop standards, still quieter than what you'd usually get at a bar), I could see where the environment could be overstimulating, and it's definitely not a place where you'd go to work/study. Despite how busy it was, the staff were coming out when they could to clean tables and the bathroom between customers. I ordered... Sausage and egg English muffin breakfast sandwich: A simple, classic breakfast sandwich made vegan. They have hot sauces at the condiment stand - homemade(?) quality stuff, not generic hot sauces from the grocery store shelf. I added the pili pili sauce to my sandwich and it added lots of flavour. The sandwich didn't blow me away, since it was just good but basic vegan sausage and egg patties with sliced vegan cheese. A little more arugula would have been nice too. It was satisfying though! Only $7.75, a great price! Hazelnut mousse cake: The hazelnut mousse and frosting were so tasty and I loved the texture of the mousse! The texture of the cake was just okay, it was a bit dry. It was a little messy to eat because the mousse layer in the middle was denser than the cake layers on either side, so the bottom cake layer would get crushed under the mousse. This was $6 which was also a very reasonable price. Iced cherry blossom latte (seasonal): This was different from a lot of cherry blossom-themed drinks I've tried because the floral flavour was very subtle instead of being the main feature. It was really good, though, adding an interesting undertone to the drink! I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the coffee itself, it was a good latte even without the added flavour. I thought it was pricy at $7 for 12 oz. Not the absolute most impressive, but still a very solid vegan cafe. I would consider visiting again and I definitely will get more of their baked goods from other stores around the city that sell them. read more

I remember hearing someone talk about this place early in December, not knowing where it is and then while somehow looking for a place for a coffee, drove right by and decided to double back and go in, and now it seems like a regular place for me and my friend to come and have a good cup of coffee. I love how this place is promoting a vegan way of appreciating baked goods, something that this city is lacking, and something I can only fine comparable up in Whistler (IYKYK), that said this place is very welcoming, once you come in, see the high ceilings, the counter right at the front filled with vegan baked goods (really, no butter?) and see a good assortment of seating area, from wall like booths, to front window seats, to log stump tables, to even children's seating, it's a great place for all ages. There is also a view of the kitchen, where on any given time you can see them making these tall beautiful cakes and other things. I have had the chance to already try their croissant and their lemon coconut loaf and these have been some go-to's with my cup of coffee. On any given time you will see the owner Erin, who is so great at recognizing faces, as she picked us out when we came just the second time, and seeing her passion come out in this space, all I gotta say is, welcome to the neighbourhood. The only odd thing I have to say about this place is the front door... still to this day I always get mixed up when I come up to the door and I usually pull the handle (like most businesses when you come from the outside... in) and when I leave I also push.. and yet I have to pull. Came on a Saturday at around 1pm and the place was popping! We ordered a couple items to go. We got the croissant and a carrot cake. The croissant was surprisingly crispy on the outside. The inside was more like bread. Definitely has its charm The carrot cake was definitely on the sweeter side. The cake itself was definitely a bit wet. When I stuck my fork into it it kind of broke apart as well. But the carrot flavour was prominent and I definitely got a hint of cinnamon coming through. I would give this place a 3.5 if Yelp allowed half stars. The .5 stars from a 4 is because the place is really narrow so there's not a lot of seating if it's already full inside. Thus I wasn't able to get a drink to enjoy there. I loved the interior and exterior of the place. Service was super nice and friendly. The baked goods are well priced for the quality given. Such a great community vibe about this bakery - there was a steady flow of foot traffic dropping in to grab a coffee and pastry to go.
