Yum! I love when a bakery has both sweet and savoury options! Not only can you come here for a sweet treat, but you can also grab a tasty meal. I've been here a few times, and it consistently feels like your friendly neighborhood bakery. They usually put on something for the hot chocolate festival and that's always fun. On my last visit, I had a mango lemonade - you heard that right! It was creamy and delicious how the mango played with the lemonade, sweet and tart at the same time. It was later in the day, so the display case for lunch options was looking a little on the sold-out side. I chose the curry chickpea sandwich, they heated it up and served it with a salad on the side. This sandwich was everything. The chickpeas were mashed into a delightful spread and there was something in there that I couldn't place (sweet potato maybe?) but whatever it was only added to making the sandwich so yummy! The decor feels very vintage meets grandmother's house. I love how the plates are mismatched and the display case is filled with gorgeous-looking pastries. The staff here are all very friendly and help with suggestions too. No complaints here!
I think I found my new favorite coffee place in the UBC area! My friend and I were unable to find a parking spot at our previous "favorite" spot (the UBC "Bean around the World", so charming, with a huge garden and patio, in a barn-like setting. But there's NO PARKING there, and the last 12 times we tried to park, we couldn't, so we went elsewhere). So we went to our second fave place, the "Blenz" nearby in the UBC Village, but that was closed for renovations. So we walked to this Doughgirls bakery and coffee shop and OMG we are no longer going to go to any other places! This is the BEST! And will be our new #1 place to go. There is a ton of free 2-hour parking on the streets and side streets. That alone is a huge benefit to coming here. The shop itself is small (which may pose a problem, come the colder and rainier winter months), but there is ample seating outside on the bistro tables and chairs. And the best part? The coffees and bakery goods here are absolutely amazing. I had a hard time deciding between a butter tart and a cinnamon bun (I went with the latter, but was told the former was divine here), and my friend, who can't have gluten, opted for a creme brûlée (which she said was fantastic). Our coffees were top notch too. And bonus for the friendly girls who work here! Super nice. The fresh loaves of bread were also enticing. Just sayin'. This is truly a hidden gem of a place, and totally worthy of checking out if you're in the UBC area.
What an amazing discovery for me while biking to ubc... A small indie cafe which offers an array of different standard pastries, but the surprise was...some mexican baked goods too. They also have fresh juices by the cup or liter and other bfast items like yogurt etc. But what immediately caught my eye was a big clam shaped designed bread with a mexican name. I immediately inquired about it and was told ( by a mexican) server, that it was a tyoe of mexican bread with cinnamon and chocolate flavour. I mean, cant go wrong with that, right. The other stuff were crossaints, cookies, scones, which were typical of other bakeries...since this one stood out. I had to try it. Lol. It was very good. Soft and moist, with the outside crust giving you a little bit of crunchy texture. Like a lightly toasted surface. The flavours were all there, not to overpowering, but just right. Service was quick and friendly. I had a few questions about other things, and they gladly obliged. I also ordered the drip coffee too. Very strong and robust. Perfect for me...and the portion size very generous. When I go biking up there again, i will stop by for sure to sample the other offerings. They have outdoor seating which was perfect. Self service condiment and water station was also available. Very popular among the locals as you will see lots of customers lining up and getting their morning pastry fix. Cheers! Happy eating!

Cute little bakery/cafe in Wesbrook Village, it would be difficult to stumble upon this place due to location and unless you live nearby or happen to be in the area. I was just leaving the BC liquor store across the street and happened to see this bakery and thought I would go by to check out. Due to covid precautions - there is a limit of 2 patrons in the restaurant so if you come during busier times there will definitely be a line up. When I arrived there were 2 people ordering their coffees so I had to wait for 5-10 minutes before entering as well. The price point is definitely higher than bakeries like Cobbs and Terra Breads but the selection is quite different. They also have a frozen section with pre-made pies and meals that you can heat up at home as well. I left with a small apple pie, and some peanut butter dog biscuits. The total came to $25 (like I said, higher price point for sure!). My dog loved the biscuits, and the apple pie was decent as well. I like that the apple pie is not super sweet like the grocery bakery variety, but with a slight tart note with lots of cinnamon. The pie crust is amazing, however could use a little more gooey goodness with the filling because it was a little dry. All in all, good place to stop by for a treat - the pictures of the sandwiches look amazing so will have to try that next. I love the neighborhood bakery feel of the place, and will definitely be back when I'm in the area again.

Just walking into this place makes your mouth water, and then as you near their display, your salivary glands go into hyperdrive. Sandwiches - gooooooood. Flatbreads - gooooooood. That bacon twist thing? OMG, SO GOOD. And the hot chocolate that we originally came for? Also good - not too sweet, yet still tasting rich and chocolatey. Bonus: they sell (kinda overpriced) jam, frozen meals, and the best damn orange blossom cream cheese spread you will have ever eaten in your life. THIS IS A MUST TRY ITEM - DO IT! YOU WILL THANK ME! Not a lot of seating available here, so it's hard if you're coming in a big group. Couple of tables outside available as well. Free street parking outside - woot!
Very charming and cozy little eatery with a family kitchen theme. They serve comfort dishes in addition to cafe fare. The baked goods and desserts all looked very appetizing. I went for the Florentine Lasagna and a chocolate cake that I can't recall the full description of, but it had layers of chocolate and raspberry infused cake and whipped cream frosting, topped with a chocolate ganache. Very visually appealing. Also I grabbed a horchata from the refrigerator, was very excited to see that they had horchata. My lasagna was tasty and the layer of cheese on top gave it a nice crunch, although it definitely had a bit of that sogginess that you get with microwaved food. The lasagna came with a light salad and a slice of bread. The bread had a nice hearty and fresh feel. Horchata was also enjoyable, although I'm pretty easy to please with horchata - the taste of this one was a little different than what I expect, with undertones that reminded me of milk tea, but in this case the different was interesting! The cake was what stole the show for me. The combination of textures was very pleasing, between the moist cake, fluffy whipped layers, and fudgy ganache, it was a very satisfying treat! Compared to, say, a coffee shop, the food here is more expensive, but I do feel like I got what I paid for with basically a full meal, since the lasagna came with a salad and bread, and the cake was very good quality. The interior is decorated in keeping with the family kitchen theme. It's a little on the small side, at least for the business that they get, but very cozy. There's one large table which can seat multiple groups, a counter along the window, and a few single "desks" along the wall. There's also a few tables outside. Again, it does get busy, so it may be difficult to find a seat, especially if you're with a group. I believe laptops are okay at the large table but not at the counter, but I don't really feel that this is the sort of place for working, it's more geared towards catching up or reading, or just grabbing a bite.

My favorite "go to" bakery. My personal favorite right now is cranberry orange scone. Sometimes for lunch I would get their kimchi burrito. When fall arrive and thanksgiving is around the corner, check out their pumpkin pie. read more

Food quality here is superb. They use ingredients sourced from the UBC Garden whenever possible, so it's nice to see dishes made with ingredients that are in season. I ordered the shepherd's pie, which was delicious! This is definitely something I would come back here for again and again. The soups here are also incredibly good. Tried the beef chili and the butternut squash. The latter is to die for. So damn good! My only gripe is that my dish was MICROWAVED, which is a real shame considering the uber-fresh ingredients used to make the dish. I understand that this dish takes a long time to prepare, so the meals here are prepared fresh at the beginning of each day. But there's got to be a better way than microwaving to keep the food hot to serve for customers who want to dine in. I've tried shepherd's pie at other restaurants, and it definitely wasn't microwaved before it was served. That's the only reason I docked a star, otherwise, this place would get a solid 5 stars from me. read more

Best cafe/bakery on campus. Their cold brewed tea was superb! For sweets, I tried blond bombshell cookie, brownies and fruit pie and they were all good! Just like the sweets I love: Rich but not overly sweet!! Not only that, you can get a loaf of bread too!!! This is very convenient because the option for the bakery is limited on campus. The price is also fair considering the quality. The quality of this cafe/bakery is almost comparable to those privately owned cafe/bakery on main street. I can't believe there's this kind of oasis on campus! read more

Love this place. It does feel like a comfort kitchen. Nice staff, great food combinations, and reminiscent music. Great place to chill at non-peak hours around 4 or 5. Can be hard to find a not awkward seating at busy times but maybe that big table was their intention. At first, I found myself unable to decide what to get because of all the choices and some weird food combos but after trying them out, it turned out to be pretty good. The lemongrass bahn-mi was unexpectedly good, on the savoury side. I like the shepherd's pie and Mac n cheese as well. Would suggest that they get cups with handles for their drinks as I almost burned my finger off taking a sip of my London fog - delicious btw. read more

I love this coffee shop. They open on Sundays, so I usually go there on Sunday, because coffee shops around my house are closed on Sundays. Coffee and meal are great! I love their Tuna sandwiches! Sometimes it takes long time to serve because of their mistakes by one girl stuff, but that's ok if it's not happens often, right? The price is little bit overpriced that's why -1. read more

My fav coffee shop in Westbrook Village. Luv that decoration on walls and atmosphere, with some tables outdoor as well. Pastries (ham & cheese croissant, bacon twist & almond croissant) are tasty and coffee is great. Price is fair. When my boy has class in Ubc, Doughgirls will always be my hangout place as there's free 2H parking nearby, shoppers drug mart and save on food. read more

This place is super cute! I asked for a pocket sandwich and it took a bit to get out. I thought all they were going to do was heat it up but they gave me that and a lovely salad on the side! It was exactly what I needed for the walk I took after! read more

Came here with a friend for lunch before a Chemistry final, and Doughgirls did not disappoint. The interior was cozy, with a retro kind of vibe, and the staff were friendly. I got the eggplant chermoula, and my friend got the lemon cake. The chermoula was seasoned well, and had a pleasant blend of flavours and textures. It and the side salad were light (last thing I needed was to feel bloated during the exam), but filling. The lemon cake also did not disappoint, and was the most photogenic slice I have ever seen. read more
