First and foremost I can't believe Level V is a vegan bakery. I was intrigued by their matcha croissant and I couldn't wait to try it. The matcha croissant definitely exceeded my expectations. It was flaky, buttery with the perfect combination of sweet and bitter. To my delight, the croissant not only had a matcha topping but also a filling which made each bite more enjoyable. I would have loved to try their matcha soft serve only if I had the stomach space for it. But alas next time!

I've always liked Whisk Matcha and I was curious to try the vegan cakes from the in house Level V Bakery. Compared to my high regards to Whisk, Level V was quite disappointing. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I ordered a hojicha birthday cake with a custom birthday message more than a month in advance. It would have been nice to get a pick-up reminder or notification to confirm the cake was being made but that's just a minor detail. Unfortunately, when I picked up the cake, the custom text was incorrect (name was spelled wrong and the word "birthday" was added even though I didn't request it). They fixed it immediately on the spot, so definitely satisfied with their service. However, it was off putting that they didn't acknowledge the mistake or apologize and I had to double check my initial order to make sure I wrote it down correctly. Basically fine service but not exceptional. I also ordered a drink from Whisk while I was waiting for the fix and that was still fantastic as I remember it to be, including the service. The cake itself was also average. It was super sugary and I didn't like the texture at all. I don't fault them though, since I knew a vegan cake would likely not taste as good. It was a fun experiment, but I'm definitely staying away from vegan cakes from now on.

Level V is partnered with and shares a cafe space with Whisk Matcha, and from the perspective of a customer visiting the cafe, they basically function as one business since you order everything from the same counter. I have left a detailed review of the whole cafe on the page for Whisk, so here I'll just go over what the bakery offers. I am working my way through their offerings and think I've tried a pretty representative sample of what they serve, but there's always a wide selection available at the cafe and they're always whipping up new things, so I think I'd have to be eating their stuff every day if I really wanted to be able to try everything! I think that the objective best thing you can get here are either cookies OR come after they open and try a bun. Any bun. They are always fresh in the morning, and the slightly sweet yeast dough is so soft and tender. They rotate through various sweet and savoury fillings. The ube mochi bun that I think is fixed in the rotation is very good; one of my favourite seasonal offerings was the salted "yolk" bun, where the vegan salted yolk filling was actually made from squash. I like that they have some veganized versions of common Asian pastries that usually contain meat so that I can try these flavours. Most of the meat substitutes are not processed imitation products but creative culinary replacements. Even if you eat meat, if you have an open mind, I would still recommend these savoury buns if you want to try something different. The cookies are similarly very soft, not too sweet. These hold up their freshness better throughout the day so you don't have to come right at opening to enjoy them at their peak (the buns are also great at any time of day, but I do notice a difference between when they're just a few hours out of the oven vs later in the afternoon). They have staple flavours and rotating seasonals which are all interesting flavours (the staple matcha mochi cookie is heavenly). They have a few twice-baked croissants: matcha and almond. If you like really buttery, gooey croissants, these might not be for you, because they're a little crunchier than typical croissants and don't have that buttery sheen. I personally don't miss the butteriness and prefer this version, which doesn't leave me feeling like my face is oily after eating it. They're almost closer to a bread dough than pastry. The matcha version has a powerful dusting of matcha and a delicious matcha custard inside. They sell whole cakes, which can be preordered from their website or grabbed as a walk-in (they have a few available for walk-ins every day), and usually there will be something available by the slice. I tried a slice of pistachio cake and really enjoyed the moist crumb and smooth "buttercream" frosting. The cake was a little dense but I didn't mind it at all. I definitely want to try more of their cake after trying this one. They have various other desserts that come and go: lots of cupcakes in fun flavours, macarons, sometimes vegan cheesecake, sometimes bars, sometimes tiramisu. I haven't been disappointed with anything so far. Some are gluten-free. The desserts don't always taste exactly like their non-vegan or non-GF counterparts, but are always delicious in their own way.

Ordered the hojicha opera cake for my bro's bday and we were all very pleased. Tastes like a regular cake and it's hard to tell that it's vegan! The main difference would be the cake texture is more muffin like/dense but it worked really well with the hojicha "cream" and we loved the strong tea flavour. Presentation was well received and we will definitely be ordering from here again. Parking situation: a bit gnarly as it's mostly permit only on the streets. We found a spot a bit further away (3 mins walking) that was 2hr parking without permit. Bring your own bag to carry your cake home, or pay $1 for a paper bag.

We came in the morning and the shop was pretty empty. Parking was easy in the residential off street area. Staff was nice and we got served quickly. 10/10 Matcha Croissant $5.50 - Matcha flavor was strong! Soft, airy, and flaky crust, and perfect sweetness. Must get! 6/10 Ube Mochi Bun $5 - Mochi was chewy but flavor was not there. Just tasted sweet and not any ube. 6/10 Early Grey White Chocolate Cookie $3.50 - super dry cookie. Earl grey flavor was subtle.

We loved the baked goods and drinks! It's hard to find vegan macaroons and these didn't disappoint. I don't think there's anything not good here, to be honest! We'll definitely be back again. The cafe is cute and the seating is mostly for two people. We had a party of 3 (one kid, two adults), and my kid was squished into the seat with me - I didn't see extra chairs.

I've heard of Level V even before Monica had her own store. She was making vegan cakes in Richmond and I was interested in looking for vegan cakes for my birthday and such. I went to Level V and Whisk Matcha to check out their expanded items and I was excited to see a lot of different drinks to order! I got a Matcha drink, 30% sugar, no ice, and it was one of the best Matcha drinks I've had in a while! It was clean and fresh. They currently have a 15% surcharge for dining in. Most people takeout for this reason.

Pricey? Yes. But a FULLY VEGAN CAFE WITH CROISSANTS!! AND SAMMIES!! AND SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM!! I love this place. I come here pretty much every time I stop by the library. Their croissants are UNMATCHED. I tried their soft serve and it was GORGEOUS, but not my favourite vegan ice cream ever. The Mochi Muffins weren't my thing, but are probably SOMEONE'S thing! My fave was the Raspberry Coconut Croissant, easily. Can't wait to see what other flavours they come up with!

Search from web to buy a plant based birthday cake on Friday and pick up on Monday. Level V opens Mondays Open at 9am 3 days pre order Mount Pleasant location near work place With all criteria meet, I choose a tiramisu cake. Since this is the first time to buy a vegan cake, I do not have great expectation, come out the cake is beautiful and yummy. Presentation is good and not too sweet. Coworkers keep asking me where do I buy the cake. This is a good place for vegan cakes!

We love Level V Bakery, especially for their cakes. Our family has ordered some delicious birthday cakes over the last couple years that Level V opened. The cakes are delicious and beautifully decorated. We recently had a wedding cake made and it was wonderful. The desserts such as the macaroons, cream puffs and chocolate moose hearts are excellent as well. All yummy! Ordering is easy with Level V and the service is very courteous.

Half eaten tiramisu. SO GOOD! Go buy!

Level V Bakery makes CAKES TO DIE FOR. If you are one of the people who can't give up eggs and cows milk because you love dessert too much, then please let Level V Bakery challenge you. Seriously folks, self-taught Monica Tang's (the owner) cakes without cows milk and eggs blow the others out of water. Still not convinced? Just look up "Dairy is Scary" on YouTube because in this day and age, no one needs dairy in their food when there are readily available and delicious substitutes. I've had almost every kind of vegan cake, but when I came across a vegan tiramisu by chance I was so stoked because I assumed it was one of those things I had to give up. All I can say is wow, the texture is so airy and smooth and has that not too sweet taste. Perfect balance of cream and sponge cake too! Someone described it as "cake with tiramisu flavor" and it sounds just about right. Her cakes are so pretty to look at too. Just go on her website and you can see her instagram-worthy creations. As of now, you can find the tiramisu at Vegan Supply, Body Energy Club, Westwood Organics, and Spents Grounds...or you can order online at her website. Hopefully she ends up on some show of some sort as she deserves the recognition for her lovely work. Keep up the amazing work and I already can't wait to try more items! TWO THUMBS UP!!!

    Custom 6" tiramisu birthday cake
    Christina L.

I ordered a birthday cake for myself (this sounds incredibly sad--I know, but my birthday falls on Tomb-Sweeping Day and my family always goes back to Asia. I don't even know why I'm trying to justify my situation for you though) since I don't consume any dairy. I first found out about Level V Bakery through one of Erin Ireland's Instagram stories, where she went to Bonus Bakery to get one of Monica's tiramisu cakes. Now, I LOVE tiramisu. But ever since going dairy-free, I haven't had the chance to eat it. Now, my birthday is April 4th, and I placed the order maybe around 6 days prior to it. She replied with the okay, and we decided on a 40$ custom birthday cake, tiramisu flavoured, with blue lettering. I picked up the cake at Bonus Bakery on April 3rd and took the bus back home, extra careful not to mess anything up. Obviously, I ate the cake on April 4th. As did my brother. I brought leftovers of my cake to school the next day and shared it among my friends. They didn't even know it was vegan. 10/10 cake. 10/10 easy communication. Would recommend!
