I visited and got a cookies n cream cookie and a latte. I found it was a tiny bit dry and thus messy to eat because crumbs would go everywhere whenever I took a bite, and the filling that I think was supposed to be vegan cream cheese had pretty much the same consistency as the cookie. That said, the cookie was not offputtingly dry and was actually still very tasty. The composition with the frosting and oreo on top was fun. The cookies are big enough that you could split one if you wanted, but they're completely manageable as a treat for one person, not like some of the mega hockey puck-esque cookies out there. The latte was okay. Nothing really good or bad to remark on. I didn't mind this, but I noticed it was on the less creamy side of things, which may be in part because I got almond milk. I enjoyed what I got but wouldn't say I was really impressed by it when I've had many (vegan) cookies that get the texture better, but if you like crazy/fun cookies, this is definitely worth a try, and I do plan on going back to try more since it's near my work. The venue here is split between Bonus and Freshii. They have separate ordering counters and one side of the space is clearly Bonus and one side is clearly Freshii in the aesthetic, but there's nothing to stop you from ordering something from Freshii and pairing it with a treat from Bonus and eating it in whichever area you want. Not a ton of seating on either side, but the Bonus side is comfy and could be a good place to do some work (although I'd advise not to stay too long because it's so small) or have a quiet chat. read more

The best vegan cookies!! With the rise of cookie chains like Insomnia Cookies and Crumbl, it's about time for vegans to have some options too! I got a 4 pack of cookies for $17. It was hard to choose just 4 of their delicious flavors, but I went with key lime, cinnamon roll, tiramisu, and birthday cake. All the cookies were baked to soft, chewy perfection. They each had a flavorful filling and topping. The attention to detail was great, definitely justifying the price point. I also got a pizza "pretzel" and it was alright. The pizza flavor was spot-on but the texture was a bit undercooked and floppy. It can be a bit difficult to tell if they're open or not because of the location, which is kind of combined with a lunch spot. But just persevere, check their opening hours, and get your hands on these cookies ASAP! read more

I had never visited until today, simply because we don't live downtown, nor are there in the mornings. But I had to be downtown first thing, so I made a quick stop to grab a pastry. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, so I got their jalapeno cheese scone ($3.50 plus tax). I'm not a huge scone guy, but this was delectable -- the texture was really fluffy, lightly creamy, and the "cheese" was melted on top perfectly. Really impressive. I want to start by saying I am not a vegan. I love butter and I'm not ashamed. However, I do have a lot of vegan friends and I am so glad that there is a vegan bakery in Downtown that they can get treats to enjoy and quite frankly I enjoy as well! Bonus Bakery has a variety of rotating baked goods and everything tastes so delicious and fresh! I honestly wouldn't know that I was eating vegan baked goods! My favourite thing was the pizza bun. It's so fluffy and flavourful! I could eat definitely eat half a dozen in one sitting. The interior of the bakery looks like it came straight out of an interior design magazine. When I read that there was a new vegan bakery opening, I was incredibly ecstatic. As someone who doesn't consume any dairy products, it was nice to know that I could literally order anything here. This is no bakery to fuel any "healthy" cravings--just a reminder that vegan is not synonymous with healthy, for these treats really are just that: treats. The bakery is connected to a freshii, which is so convenient that it's almost a bit funny. You can get a healthy lunch, then go to Bonus Bakery for a little dessert right afterwards. It was a little confusing trying to figure out which till was for which store upon my first arrival but that's a super small detail. When I came, the bakery was around an hour away from closing, and there weren't too many options available to order. I was particularly interested in the Strawberry Crumble bars, expecting them to remind me of pie crust and some sort of blondie/brownie. I was pretty wrong. It was dry and hard to bite into, and instead of fresh fruit, it was pretty obvious that jam was used in its place. Reminded me a bit like a really oaty granola bar. Not at all moist, and not at all reminiscent of yummy and flaky pie either. I personally didn't really like it. I want to try the "Chicken" and waffles next time. Perhaps I'd have better luck then! Honestly I was disappointed, I have been several times and they have never had the crossaints they advertise so much on social media. We do not live close and often only come to downtown as a last minute need so cant give the notice to pre order. They have never even had one flavour available of the supposedly 4 they offer. We are not big cookie people so would never really want to come really apart from the promise of filled croissants. We tried the pizza bagel which is okay but again we got the last ones at 11am so they are either ridiculously popular to sell out before lunch or they don't make many and then the bonus cookie which was okay for a sweet and salty treat. Mirroring other comments here, it is fantastic to see a vegan bakery downtown, but what is truly awesome is that it is a really good vegan bakery with super delicious sweet and savoury items. The muffins are to die for and my personal favourite is the pizza pretzel. It takes a huge amount of willpower just to have the one! The pretzel is light and fluffy, and the crust perfect to hold the topping of a delicate tomato sauce, with vegan cheese and just the right amount of herbs and seasoning. First off I wouldn't even bother writing a review but in this case I feel the need to. The stars are for the baking only and front line employees. My first time there, (after all the hype surrounding this place)- I was quite excited. It was early one morning and the head baker came out from the back, I believe her name is Monica? Not sure whether she was having a bad morning but I smiled at her, made small talk etc... and told her how I could hardly wait to try the several things I had ordered. What I got in return was the stinkeye and a dirty look... barely even a response, strange. I don't believe I have ever met her or said anything to rub her off the wrong way. When I was a QSR franchisee, we were aways welcoming towards our customers because without them to support us we wouldn't have remained an established business for the 2 decades. Business 101 when you're dealing with the public, then be prepared to fake it at the very least or maybe best to stay in the back and focus on what you're good at. For a fairly new business, you would think to be a little friendlier to your customers, I felt uncomfortable, as though I was bothering her and she was doing me a huge favour. Too bad there are so many other places in town with delicious vegan treats! Unfortunate because Bonus Bakery is actually really good - yet I'm unsure whether I would actually go back as often as I normally would had I not experienced this the first time. However -kudos to the girls working out front as they are quite helpful and friendly (both times I visited) a positive experience overall. ***update: I was contacted by the co-founder and the situation has been dealt with in a professional manner.
