My wife and I eat here frequently. The staff is always friendly and the food is wonderful! The owner is Italian and knows good Italian food (I'm an Italian food snob as my grandparents came here from Naples). It's not much to look at from the outside (it's in a strip shopping center), but the inside is very nice. The owner actually painted many of the pieces hanging on the walls. read more

Very good food! I had the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo. It had plenty of decent size shrimp and the sauce was perfect...not too heavy or too light...with a great flavor. The bolognese was meaty and saucy with nice flavor. We asked for fresh basil and the gladly accommodated. The wine recommendation was not good, however. I think because it was off, not because it was not a decent wine. It was brown and had that strong musty odor. The service was mediocre. I believe it was the owner and he was spreading himself too thin. Waiting tables, seating guests, answers the phone and bagging take out. He kind of got an attitude when we weren't ready to order after we had been seated 10 min before we received a menu. I will come back. The menu has several entrees I want to try!! Wow... yeah all the food here was either just bland or straight up gross. Everything tasted old and like it had been reheated. Dishes came out extremely fast which I don't think signals a fresh cooked meal. I couldn't eat my Drunken Linguine- aside from the creamy sauce being more thick and chunky than fluid, the chicken tasted bland, cold, and old. It was just super gross! read more

First time here but we were craving Italian. Very nice cuisine in a casual atmosphere. Saturday night so there was live music- a pianist and guitarist playing classical/soft jazz. Service was quick and excellent. I had the drunken linguine and my hubby had the chicken piccata. We shared a bottle of strawberry moscato santero (don't judge me) and a small dessert Canoli. For Valentines my husband and I decided to order in with Uber Eats after our kids where in bed. We choose this restaurant. I placed an order at 5:30 for delivery between 7:00-7:30. At 8:00 our order had not arrived so I called the restaurant. I was informed that they were not doing Uber because it was Valentines Day. I replied that the site still allowed me to put in an order. The phone was then handed to the manager, whom I found very rude and short. He basically blamed me to ordering on Uber when you were not delivering last night and told me I needed to take care with it thru Uber. In reality the only person/ business/ place to blame for was the restaurant. They obviously didn't update all parts of their Uber account to not allow ordering on Valentine's Day. I realize that mistakes happen, but, acknowledging those mistakes (and making the mistake right) is a part of doing business. I was also informed I would not be receiving my order. After speaking with the manager. I went online to cancel my order and figure out my new dinner plan at 8:00pm. The status of my order was now "preparing". This was my first time using Uber foods so before ordering other food from another place I called back to understand the status change. The same manager again was very rude and told me that my order would not be arriving, and I needed to clear this with Uber not him. Right after this call, I went to cancel the order and Uber said I could not, shortly after my order was on its way, an hour late. We did receive our food and it was very good. However, I was very put off by the confusion, lateness, and rudeness of the manager. I realize Valentines is a busy night, however I feel like I could have been dealt with more professionally and had a better resolution than I received last night. I sent a form of this letter to the restaurant. I received a reply that in no way an apology for being rude or taking responsibility for their mistake in scheduling Uber for the night. I had eggplant parma and tomato mozzarella salad delivered by Uber eats. Overall the meal was good and I had no problem finishing most of it. Eggplant: some of the actual eggplant in the middle was undercooked and it was a bit runny. Surprised that the dish did not come with the small side of pasta. It would've been nice to have an option to add it for an additional fee. The bread included with the meal was toasted however it arrived cold. I was not able to bite through it. Tomato mozzarella was well prepped and I appreciate that they took the time to put the balsamic dressing on the side so that it would not be delivered soggy. Thx! read more

Outstanding!!! We were driving to Austin to visit the in-laws and wanted to bring dinner, so I was tasked with the search for a place to order from. I found Milano Cafe when searching on Yelp, and it sounded promising. We wanted to order a family pack, but the entree we wanted (chicken Marsala) wasn't on the family pack list. We called the restaurant and they happily accommodated us, and we showed up at the in-law's with a fantastic meal. My son could eat his body weight in the vegetables served as the side (zucchini, squash and broccoli, perfectly cooked and seasoned), and the chicken Marsala, fettuccini Alfredo with chicken, and Caesar salad were thoroughly enjoyed by all! It was hands-down an absolutely amazing, completely delicious meal! We will definitely be having food from Milano Cafe again. read more

Came in my mom after driving in from Central Austin just to try this place out. We were seated by the owner and noticed his wife sneering at us. Needless to say that should have been our cue to leave but we were still willing to give it a shot. Sat in the nearly empty place for at least 15 minutes while the snooty owner repeatedly tended to the few other tables but not ours. No welcome, no waters, no drink or meal was able to be ordered. We finally realized they apparently are selective in whom they decide to serve and by all appearances if you're hispanic you will not be welcome here much less served. OMG... I died and went to Italy... at a strip mall just 5 minutes from where I live. The staff was friendly and courteous and even helped us navigate what to order. I had this stuffed spinach ravioli with procuitto and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. They even brought us a complimentary dessert because we said it was the first time we had been there. The owner was so friendly, he said he could make anything (even if it was not on the menu) as long as it was not too busy next time we came back. As someone highly allergic to wheat who constantly has to call restaurants and ask what's gluten-free, I appreciated that their items were marked on their website menu. And that they don't bread their eggplant! I'm still in shock at how good this was. My one complaint has nothing to do with the restaurant but that UberEats is all messed up and didn't have a gluten-free button nor does it even have the eggplant dish on the menu for this restaurant. Hands down BEST Italian Cuisine in Austin. And its byob. Free glasses of water or lemonade, and complimentary glasses for those who bring wine. I've recommended this place countless times. Some friends had brought me here about 3 years ago. I couldn't remember what I had but remembered it was good. Here I am back again and I'll definitely remember what I ordered. The restaurant is nice and simple. Service is excellent and patient. I didn't get the server's name but if there's only one (the young guy), keep up the good work. The lobster ravioli with gorgonzola sauce is very good. The portion doesn't seem to be big but it's rich enough that you'll be good after. I've been eating at Milano Cafe for a while, and it is about time I wrote a review. I have a few menu favorites that I can't live without - their Insalata Milano is delicious with the roasted veggies perfectly prepared. Every time I eat there, someone in the family orders the spinach ravioli or margerita pizza, both of which are flavorful. The only time I had a negative experience was when they forgot to prepare a meal sans meat for a vegetarian that I was dining with. Since it was take-out, I couldn't give them a chance to fix it either. Their nutella crepe makes for a light fun dessert. If you want more than "light and fun", go for their tiramisu. I'm convinced it is the best tiramisu in Austin. We head over to Milano for coffee, cake or dinner and always come back happy. Friendly staff, no atrocious corkage for BYOB, and well prepared food. read more

Well we found Heaven on earth , I think. This is one of those places that you almost don't want to tell people about and want to keep it all to yourself. But just because I'm nice I'll share this beautiful beautiful place with you. The owners are Italian and the food is tasty flavorful fresh and authentic. The hosts are super friendly and I cannot even begin to tell you about the food. I had the tortellini with a Gorgonzola cream sauce with chicken. It was a little light on the chicken but I didn't really notice and truthfully the rest of the experience was so fabulous that I can't even take away even a portion of a star for that. The pizza was beautiful fresh crusty chewy just the way we like it. Everybody else loved their food. I wasn't so impressed with the desserts. The carrot cake was to say the least, dry. I'm convinced they actually buy their desserts from somewhere and bring it into the store. I make a far better carrot cake so I wouldn't waste my time buying it there again and even that would not let me take away a portion of a star because I didn't go there to eat carrot cake or chocolate cake but I went there for authentic Italian food and I got the most amazing authentic Italian food I have eaten in the longest time. BYOB and there is a liquor store and a wine shop right next door - YES! The food here is definitely really good. My favorite dish was the Linguini Carbonara. The sauce was rice and creamy, and definitely slow cooked with the panchetta/bacon in the sauce. The husband got the Cannalloni, which comes with 2 to an order, and is similar to a lasagna, a huge pasta filled with meat and cheese with sauce poured on top. It's then baked so it has a nice texture to mix with the meat. Our friend ordered the Linguini Fruto del Mar. They are generous with the meat and portions here, and everything tasted really fresh. The service here was pretty poor. The waitress kept bumping in our tables and chairs and never apologized, and when they brought the bill, they didn't even say thank you or anything. Also, keep in mind that this is a cafe and not a restaurant, so if you need a refill, go get it yourself at the counter or die of thirst. read more

Man. I lived and worked in this area for 3 years and I was surprised I never stop by this place. Come to think of it, after tonights visit I understand why I didnt come here. Everything about this place seems off. All the dishes were not freshly made nor deserved a price tag in $15 range. The pasta was clearly a dry pasta. Bread was store bought and one slice. Sauce was store bought. Desserts were store bought. See the trend. For the price at Milano, I can make my own dish 3 times better and still come out ahead. The pizza with Albanian sausage is another favorite. For main courses I like to have the linguine fruitto di mare. For $18, there's not a better bang for your buck. You get an array of mussels, clams, and shrimp. The tomato sauce is not too sweet, or acidic. To finish my meal, I always order a slice of cake. The limoncello is my go to. The service was good, but the dish I ordered was very mediocre, I had the lobster ravioli, the filling truly didn't taste like lobster, the ravioli were barely warm and the sauce was lukewarm and watery. It truly tasted like some cheap frozen stuff that was reheated. My friends also rated their dishes as barely okay. I ordered an Aperol Spritz and I guess I didn't pay attention to the fact that the waitress said it was canned, it definitely didn't look or taste like an Aperol Spritz, do maybe if you don't have a bartender or keep certain liquors in stock don't offer a subpar canned drink for the price of a hand mixed one! The bread that came with the meal was also not good, weird spongy texture. The only things that were good were the salads and the tiramisu.
