We hired Mike the Mover for our move from an apartment to our new house. This was my first time hiring a moving company and the process was super straightforward and easy. I called, let them know when I was moving and the size of my house, whether there were stairs or particularly heavy things and I received a quote. If the approximately 8 quotes I got for my move, Mike the Mover was the most competitively priced in this area. When I was ready to reserve they just needed my email and phone number, pickup and drop off address and we were all set to go - no deposit required. A team of three guys did my move and they were great! Aleksie kept me updated as to his eta and once he and his team arrived, they quickly loaded the moving truck (about 1.5 hours) and unloaded at my new house (1 hour + drive time) so the entire process was about 3 hours in total. None of my items were damaged and the team took great care with wrapping my furniture to avoid scrapes or damage. I would definitely hire them again! read more

Mike and his team have done 4 moves for me. In each case they handled all the belonging with great care. Each item was wrapped and nothing was broken. His prices are more than fair and he and his men are honest. He even found my lost engagement ring and returned it to me. The only downside with Mike is that he is so busy, sometimes there is communication break down. He's an excellent mover so I can see why he is so busy. I didn't mean to move during a heatwave. I had no idea our move day would break 106-degrees. I was wilting like a hothouse flower, but Mike and crew didn't falter for a minute. They moved our 3+BR worth of crap from there to here like it was nothing. (OK, they grumbled about my heavy rusty garden stuff and the Cactus From Heck, but that only made me like them more.) Had a move and the company I scheduled informed me the morning before the move they could not come because of an emergency. I had less than 24 hours to schedule the move with another moving company. I was in a real bind. Mike and the Movers was recommend by a friend so I called them up. I told Mike I was in a pinch and if he can schedule something with this little notice for the next day. He said his schedule was booked but he'll try to see what he can do and give me a call back. Literally 5 minutes later, he called back saying he did some re-arranging of his schedule and found 2 movers out near my area to do the move the next day! He went out of his way to make this happen! Now that is what you call excellent Customer Service! Moving day - Movers were supposed to come at 8am and they were there on spot 8am (actually I think they came earlier). Movers were complete professionals. No talking, no joking around, No-Nonsense. They got in, did their job, packed up everything professionally, loaded it on the truck, and safely unpacked at the new place. No damages to property or items. Complete Professionals! Just one note - they only take cash. I don't feel safe with all cash transactions but they give a detailed professional receipt so I trusted that based on my experience with them. Also, the plus with only cash is they don't include any other extra costs like gas, travel, and other hidden charges. Everything is straight forward and easy to deal with. Very happy with the service they provided especially with the situation I was handed just before moving day. I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for a mover. read more

We recently moved from Vallejo to San Leandro & could not be more relieved with our decision to use Mike & the Movers. We had kept the business card of the folks who moved us 9 yrs prior because of the PHENOMENAL job they did. The # was now Foster Van Lines (yes, I name names!) The owner, Matthew Foster, came to the house, took inventory, got the move date & sent a quote the following day. Quick response, I thought, & was impressed. Unfortunately, follow through from Foster Van Lines was non-existent. The adage of not judging a book by its cover so applies in this case as Matthew presented as a professional with his crisp shirt, khakis & iPad. Despite 2 emails & 1 follow up phone call to him & his staff requesting for confirmation, not a single word, no apologies, no nothing from this company. In contrast, a single phone call to Mike and the job was confirmed. Mike even called us the eve of the move to check in, encouraging us to get a good night's sleep!! The arrival time was between 8:30 & 10 a.m. to allow for Friday traffic. Jim, Dan & Roonie arrived exactly @ 8:30! What impressed us about these 3 men is the fact that they did the impossible: they took apart & reassembled a drafting table and hauled it up a stairwell that measures 21 inches wide!!! We are fortunate to have made the decision to use Mike & the Movers. Their prices are unbeatable!!! They have become our go-to movers and recommend them highly! read more

We moved from SF to Daly City last weekend and Mike & The Movers were fantastic! I've moved many times, and they were by far the best movers I've ever had. I recently used Mike & the Movers for a local move in the Oakland / Berkeley area. I was very happy with their service in all regards. I filled out a form on their website, received a prompt quote in response, and they were very accommodating in scheduling an appointment at the last minute. The movers actually called before they arrived to confirm their arrival time, and they were efficient and courteous. The prices were very reasonable and there were no hidden charges, as I have encountered in past moves. I would definitely recommend these guys. We were dreading moving day so much that we decided to just see how much movers cost. We sent a list of the items we'd be moving, and a list of all the stops we would need to take along the way. Mike and the Movers got back to us right away and the price was too good to be true. We felt like we were taking a chance by going with a moving company that did not have many reviews, but went with this company because we couldn't beat the price. These guys did an AWESOME job. They showed up on time, and were fast and efficient. They were such hard workers and very STRONG too! These guys got the job done so much faster than our friends and a few trucks would have, and they treated all of our items like valuables. When you look at how much it costs to rent a Uhaul for a day, compared to low price and the ease of having Mike and the Movers take care of all the hard stuff for you, it just makes sense to makes sense to call these guys. We used Mike's moving service in a recent move, and they were just great. We had the unfortunate timing of a downpour during the move - all day - and the guys kept their spirits up despite the rain - an amazing feat! They were punctual, kept moving (none of that dilly dallying to extend the time), and they were very aware of fragile items, not letting the animals out, etc etc. All around, really good guys, good service, and we would use them again. read more

Never got to the moving stage, just the estimate. Late 15 minutes without a call. Wouldn't mind it if I didn't work grave and count every moment between shifts. That said, George arrived in a hurry. Walked through and promptly sat down. Mind you, 730 sf, no appliances, all packing done ourselves. Also informed him we'd be moving the majority of the boxes ourselves sans books. Right off the bat, he suggested 3 men. Because someone would obviously need a third man to keep watch on the truck during the move, we're in East Oakland after all). Which is bogus, my neighborhood is safer than North Oakland these days. So, now we'reup to $150/hr. He then informed me it would take at least 1.5 hours (during non-traffic time) to get to our destination in Antioch. Bringing the cost to $900.00+ Are you kidding me? When I politely told him this is entirely too much, he packed his things and informed me that I should get additional quotes. Well, yes. Thanks. I had booked another company for my move, but the day before when I called to confirm they told me that one of their trucks broke down and won't be able to move me. Of course I had to find another mover ASAP. I was so lucky to have found this company. They had an availability and the rate was reasonable. I was moving to another 1 bedroom unit in the same apartment complex. My family would typically help each other when moving, as there's a lot of us. This time, I only got 3 volunteers. So I looked into moving companies to get help with the heavy lifting. After looking at reviews and calling a few places, I took a chance at Mike And The Movers (MATM). Mike was friendly and straightforward over the phone. So off I went to schedule an appointment. On the big move day, the big CONS: 1) The movers were late 2) Dealing with paperwork was included in the 2 hour minimum (that's 15 min. that could have been spent moving!) 3) Expensive wood furniture got damaged -- Was the price reasonable? I suppose. I've never employed movers before. In the past I've used U-Haul and family helpers. The overall price would have been comparable to renting U-Haul and equipment, and then getting movers through them. I figured since MATM would bring everything needed, i.e. truck, dolly, furniture pads, even box hangers for clothes, I would rather just go through one company instead of U-Haul + MovingPartner. -- Were the movers on-time? No. I was told to expect them between 9-9:30 AM. The 2 guys showed up at 9:45 AM. Reason? They said they didn't have my phone number. I explicitly mentioned that there is a gate and they would need to call me so I can let them into the apt. complex. -- Were they professional? The lead mover was. The other guy was his younger brother, who seemed kind of lost without his big brother telling him what to do. He didn't seem to know how to deal with a customer, so would defer to his big bro. -- Were they careful? The lead mover was, but his younger brother messed up big time. You see, four months ago I finally decided to invest in some really elegant and long lasting furniture, which included a chest drawer... that got damaged! Things were going so well at first, so I thought it would be fine the rest of the way... until they moved the 60"x40"x19" drawer. The side got HORRIBLY SCRATCHED. The paint peeled off because they were so DEEP! I'm talking about multiple scratches that were up to 8 INCHES LONG! Why the younger bro decided not to use the furniture pads they brought is beyond me. I was too busy and don't like to micromanage since they said they've "been doing this for at least 10 years". I am usually a very calm, patient and understanding person, but I have to say I got SO upset, I felt like steam was coming out of my ears! It's the first time I ever bought quality furniture, which cost thousands and were fairly brand new! I would not have shed a tear over my older furniture and I was mostly concerned with the expensive wood furniture, and that chest drawer was the first one they moved from the set. They were more careful after that. Still... -- So what happened next? The lead mover said I could file a claim for the scratched drawer, that they can send somebody to fix it for me. So I called the office. They said they would email me the claim form, but days later I still have not received it! To be fair, I'm glad they there for the heavily lifting, and they were nice, but I'm still NOT happy with the damage and the fact that it's taking so long for them to do anything about it. Luckily it's just with that one (as far as I know at this point since I still have more to unpack and get through.) read more

I had to move with a baby so hiring good movers is a must. I wasn't able to get my previous movers on the date I wanted and I decided to check out Mike and The Movers based on the Yelp rating. I decided to try Mike and the Movers after talking with Mike. The guys he sent over were great. They were on time, friendly, and hardworking.The fact that they all spoke English made a big difference. We had a lot of stuff and we needed to make sure we get everything into the house before it gets dark, which is by 5pm. These guys did not disappoint, and they are good people. We downsized from a 2 story to a smaller 1 story house. Steve and James were our movers and they did great! I've always used and trusted the ratings on Yelp, but this is the first time I am posting a review. I am normally too lazy to post, but Mike and the Movers screwed me up so bad I just had to warn others. I am not sure why there are so many 4 -star reviews on Mike. Like most of you, I was attracted to the good reviews, and contracted Mike for my move. We set up a time, and they confirmed my move in writing through an email. Two days before the move, I called up Mike to confirm the move, and they told me everything was set. On the day of the move, Mike was a no-show. For anybody who has moved before, you would know that this is the ultimate breach of trust. On their word, I have informed my landlord that I will move out of the apartment today, and also started another lease in my new apartment today. It is absolutely critical that the movers come and do what they promised to do. The first hour they were late, I told myself that this happens all the time. I called, but nobody picked up. I waited for another hour, and still, no call and nobody picked up in the office. This is absolutely the worst nightmare. Go contract with another company. You will be glad you did, and you will probably save some money too. read more

From the craigslist ad you don't expect too much, but what you get is impeccable service. Mike and the movers were polite, nice, efficient, hardworking, and had a sense of humor. With their own truck and guys, you are really saving money over the dreaded UHaul experience and beer for your ex-friends. A great bargin, trustworthy, and your infamously heavy sideboard (mine) arrived in perfect condition. Hey, they even tolerated my changing my mind about the bed placement in the new place. Just be aware that the set up fee is NOT at your house, but a set fee for them when you are guestimating your costs. I will call them again, if they are willing to take on the sideboard. I had a couple of big items that required special handling - a hutch and a roll-top desk - that they wrapped carefully and had to negotiate a couple of tight corners to move them into my new place. I was very dissapointed with this moving company. As many of you who goes by the ratings from this website, so did I. I was unimpressed by the whole thing. Let's just say that if I wanted to pick a few guys from Home Depot and asked them to help me, I would probably get better service than "Mike and the Movers". I mean these guys were slow as molasses, the two didn't know what to do and kept asking the one guy what they should do and how to do it, and they freakin took their time. As per Mike, to get three guys to be better and faster, WRONG. I would not go with these guys and would look somewhere else to get moving help. They were not professional nor did they know what to do. On top of all that, we were charged almost three hundred dollars MORE than what they quoted us. Eventhought, we have moved most of the smaller boxes and all of the kitchen stuff by ourselves. NO offense Mike, please send someone who knows what they are doing, try not to pick them up from the streets that morning, and stay true to your quote. read more

I called on Wednesday for a Sat morning move -- they called up a day before to let me know they'll come 1/2 hr early, appreciate the heads up. I paid $360 for 3 & 3/4 hr move. The movers were very nice, took care of our things (including the plasma tv that we told them they can't tilt) ... I'd say one of them was fast and the other one was slower but I can't say he was slow. But anyway I was happy with the price I paid, and Mike called after the job to make sure everything was fine. I dont think these guys are the cheapest out there, but I was happy with the service. read more

I have no complaints about these movers. I had to move from SF to Hayward, and they did the job perfectly. They were on time, moved all my heavy furniture from the 3rd floor (with no elevator) to my new place. And best of all, nothing was broken! The response and followup from Mike and their team was very good and the people were really nice. But the people who moved looked pretty tired and dull. One of the person took very longer breaks in between compared to the other and it costed more because of the time take. I agree it has to be shifted from third floor . There have been minor chirps in our wood furniture while movement and could have been more skillful with their work. I don't want to be a complainer but could have been better . read more

John from Mike and the Movers tried very hard to make our moving experience great, He squeezed us in to a booked schedule, and managed our expectations as to when they movers would arrive. Unfortunately when the movers arrived they were moving in slow motion after a long day and night of moving from the day before. We were helping them move because the two mover guys were so tired and moving at a snail's pace. I was bummed that the move was taking so long.
