Had a great experience here today getting my oil changed. The waiting area/office is clean and quiet and the employees are super nice and not at all pushy. The oil change was done in less than an hour (none of that cat and mouse game of "Oh, it'll be done in 45 minutes" which turns into 2 1/2 hours). I printed out a coupon from their website and brought it in, and I didn't get charged for any hidden fees; I ended up paying the price listed on the coupon plus tax. After driving cross country from Massachusetts I needed an oil change and multi-point inspection. I've used Midas back east and figured I'd stick with them out here as well. I dealt with Jeff, who got my car in the shop right away, called me while I ran errands to apprise me of what turned up during the inspection, and had me out the door in under an hour. Rule of thumb when looking at yelp reviews; you should remove the highest and the lowest and evaluate the ones in the middle. The problem, for me, is if I gave anything less than the highest rating, I would be doing Gary and Jeff an injustice. My check engine light was on. I am new to the neighborhood. I checked places on yelp and someone told me about Midas. I decided to call and I spoke to Jeff. He told me he would check it out and diagnosis the situation for no charge to me. He was very helpful and accommodating on the phone, so I decided to go for it. The yelp reviews reflected prior management. I made an appointment. When I took my car in, Gary greeted me. He said it would take an hour and I took a walk. There are lots of places to explore in the neighborhood. When I got back, Jeff had a suggestion. He told me to go buy a $9.00 part and put it in, which I could do, and he bet that would solve my problem. If it didn't, then bring it back. It cost me $9.00 and so far so good. They took their time, their energy, their knowledge and didn't charge me a cent. BUT what they did gain is my loyalty. My husband and I have been taking both our cars to Midas for about 4 years now and received great service. We get our oil changed regularly and they always do a great job, making sure to check all fluids and letting us know if anything else needs work. Last time I took my car in they let me know I needed new brake pads. I knew this was the case because they had been squeaking and the Toyota dealer had told me the same thing. The price they quoted was over $100 cheaper than the dealer, they came with a lifetime warranty, and they did a great job. I brought my car here yesterday after having to pay the dealership $450 to fix my front brakes. I needed my rear brakes done and the price was way lower than the dealership! The reason for the 5 stars is that i had also been given a list of recommended repairs and they were made to seem that I needed to do them now and I can't afford to. Jeff had his mechanic look at these items specifically ( they are not brake related) and went over them with me. Turns out I can wait ( and save up). I had been pretty stressed about this and now I feel much better. I was quoted the Midas prices for those repairs but not made to feel like I have to do them now. Jeff replaced the brakes on my Mercedes 550GL. Unfortunately they squeaked after. He replaced them a second time with a smile. And they still squeaked. He replaced them a third time with a smile, with Mercedes brand parts, at a loss for his cost. My car is huge and goes through brakes quickly. I will definitely return to Midas Encinitas. My daughter's car recently had an engine light come on that was linked to an emission issue. I brought the car to Midas and spoke with Ian and Jeff. They called me back in a couple of hours and informed me that the issue may in fact be covered by a factory recall. I picked up the car and drove to dealer to find out that indeed it was covered at 100%. Midas could have done the work and charged me and I never would have known the difference. The dealer told me I also needed a rear brake job for $375 and an alignment for $129. I went to Midas and confirmed I needed the work and bot both done for just over $200 total. My daughter is going away to college soon and the fact that Midas is nationwide and their systems within the stores communicate, I can rest easy knowing that she will be taken care of in an honest fashion whereever she decides to go to school. What makes me rate my experience 5 stars? Great service! At this location, I'm able to drive-up or call in and speak to a courteous employee. Jeff, the manager at this location, goes out of his way to explain issues related to your car, illustrate or show you what those issues are, and options for fixing them. When dealing with the front desk, its nice to know that the person is also knowledgeable - and I believe Jeff at the front desk was or still is a mechanic - capable of providing valuable insight into what's needed and what's not. I've had my car in on a few occasions, been offered great pricing, free inspections, and received great results at a fraction of the cost. Not being an auto mechanic myself, I need to trust someone, and I trust these guys. read more

Recently I had my oil changed and was made aware of quite a few big problems Midas suggesting checking my warranty on my 2010 corolla. I have to give a shout out to Jeff Check, the Store Manager. I brought my Dodge Ram in to the shop because the muffler was making a deafening noise. I let him know it was an extra car and I wanted to spend the least amount possible - fully expecting I'd be told I had to replace the exhaust pipe. Jeff called me and told me within hours that his tech had been able to solder the pipe and completely resolve the problem. Total cost was a drop in the bucket. This place is amazing! All of the employees here really care about the business and it's customers. I've been having a lot of issues with my old car for the past month and Jeff (the manager) really went out of his way to help me.
