DON'T FALL FOR CABIN FILTER SCAM! I went in for $69 oil change, and was charged $140 MORE to replace cabin filter. They said my car smelled of mice excrement and said they were in the cabin filter due to my car sitting for long lengths of time. THAT IS A BLATANT LIE! I drive 8 miles round trip to work every day. Jeff came to the rescue and quickly zip-tied the piece so I could drive home safely without worry. The store manager contacted me with in 20 minutes after the vehicle was inspected and approving the work to be completed. I took my Sprinter RV to Midas to repair the alternator, because I have had good service at this location before. Travis did an outstanding job of diagnosing the problem, finding that is wasn't the alternator, but instead the cable between the battery and alternator, which was hidden under the chassis. His friendliness and courtesy were an additional bonus. I would definitely recommend this location for general automotive service. They do more than just mufflers. read more

Jeff and Travis listen to understand the customer, they relate their findings directly, and clearly, and they never dismiss a question or concern. The mechanics are polite and friendly. During the heater core replacement for my 2022 Ram 1500, they ran into some trouble. That's a big job and there's quite a bit that can go wrong so I was already nervous. They ended up having to order a part that broke during the job. They never charged me for that part or the extra time involved. Some shops would have charged me. ​And since the job took longer than anticipated, there was room for errors to accumulate which they did. That's almost to be expected. But ​e​verybody stayed honest a​nd sincere and focused on getting everything perfect again. Everything is perfect again. An additional nice gesture for my trouble was a complimentary oil change I needed on a separate vehicle. I will be coming back for whatever service is needed for both ​of my vehicles. Midas (Encinitas) is a fantastic place to have work done on your car. Jeff and Travis provide excellent customer service and I trust their recommendations. They always talk me through the details of the service and never try to push unnecessary items or service. One time I brought in my car and rather than charging me to try to fix it they let me know about a warranty issue that might be applicable with my car, printed out the details, and sent me over to the dealer where they were spot on about the issue. I just needed an oil change and a brake light fixed, and they were able to do this in under three hours and it wasn't even close to be expensive!! This place should be shut down. Safety hazard and money down the drain. I ordered 4 Michelin tires from TireRack, paid Midas for installation and alignment. They delivered direct to Midas. When we picked up the car, we noticed a bunch of gunk and crap on 1 wheel. Whatever, we thought. It looked like they struggled a lot with it. But I wasn't even going to be anal about any damage. Hours later - tire is flat. My wife takes it back. They fill, goes flat again, so they say send it back to TireRack. There's no way the tire arrived with a RIPPED sidewall. And if it DID, then Midas endangered my wife by sending her off TWICE without acknowledging the problem. Tirerack can't take responsibility, nor should they. Midas isn't taking responsibility for it, of course. If it arrived in this condition, it's still their responsibility to notify us so we can return it. Instead, they sent my wife off unsafely twice. And now it can't be returned, since it's used, of course. If by some magic they're telling the truth, I could have returned it before my wife drove on an exploding tire. But instead they sent her off twice, before claiming it arrived that way. So now I'm out a tire either way! There's obviously no chance that anyone is to blame except Midas. Better yet, when my wife took it back they just treated her like a dumb girl, of course. Absolutely degenerate business. Go literally anywhere except here. Trash. You owe us a new tire and an apology. Either way you're in the wrong, and trapped between lies, whether it arrived defective or not. Props to the first guy that originally helped me when I brought it in, he was nice. Unfortunately straight downhill from there with each time we returned. read more

There is so much good vibes going on at this place! I am so happy that these guys are my main mechanics in my area. I've been coming here for years now and Jeff has been amazing helping me with everything that I need. Recently, Sam has joined the team here at the front desk and his partnership with Jeff has made this location so much better. The last time I came in here was for an oil change and Sam helped me out with some stuff. He informed me that I had a couple of things that I needed fixing on my car before I went on a mini vacation. I did a lot of driving and came in to get everything taken care on my car with Sam. I needed to replace my brakes, but I also needed an oil change. The team at Midas let me know that they would do all of it for a one whole price and essentially did my oil change for free. They didn't have to do that, but I could tell when the technician saw my face at the price of things I was clearly overwhelmed. During CoVid19 things have been so chaotic and having to take care of vehicle maintenance can really deal a blow. They made it so it wasn't as devastating and it took a lot of weight and pressure off my shoulders to know my car was getting restored to good shape. They were also really quick, I came in pretty close to their closing time and they knocked everything out in approximately 1.5 hrs with time to spare and I was able to wander about and get some fresh air and exercise. I walked a fair distance to the local Armstrong Gardens and was able to pick out some plants and decor and walk back in time for my car to be finished. read more

Jeff was very helpful and when we broke a glass in the parking lot, he came out with a broom and dust pan and swept it up for us. We decided to wait on the repairs as they weren't crucial and he even though they took the cat apart, they didn't charge us for the diagnoses. Great customer service! We definitely be back! IF I COULD SELECT 0 STARS I WOULD. The other day, my car died and I decided to bring it to Midas. Im a 29 year old woman who knows little to nothing about cars (aka Midas' number one target). For the last 5 years I have spent thousands of dollars at this location. There was ALWAYS something big that needed to be done or replaced. But, there was great customer service so I always assumed they were giving me the best price. Well, it was no different this time. They told me I required a new alternator AND a new battery. I'm in a very precarious spot financially, and was quoted $1000 for both parts and labor which is ABSURD. Fortunately I have a friend who knows cars extremely well, and he told me to look into the parts cost before saying yes. I was told the alternator was going to be $450 (actual cost at the auto parts store - $240). Labor cost for the alternator was $300...Then I was told that I needed a new battery (which I replaced not too long ago) and it was going to be $200 plus $100 for labor. I had AAA tow my car back to my house. My friend came over and first things first we tested my battery - 12 volts, tested at 12.4 - this is perfectly fine. Next we tested the alternator...it was supposed to be between 13 and 14 and it tested at 13.8 - Both were completely fine. Turns out, there was some corrosion next to the battery connection. ALL THAT WAS DONE TO FIX THIS ALMOST $1000 "work" WAS TO BRUSH AND CLEAN THE BATTERY CONNECTION WITH A SILVER BRUSH...and just like that she started running beautifully. All warning signs turned off in the car and everything WORKED. Any GOOD technician who actually wants to help their customers would have AT LEAST LOOKED AROUND FOR AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD, TESTED THE BATTERY TO MAKE SURE IT WORKED BEFORE QUOTING ME FOR A NEW ONE, AND DO ANYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO KEEP THE COST LOW. There are multiple stories on how these places prey on young women and take advantage of their lack of knowledge on vehicles...this place is no different. I can't help but think of all the money I have dumped into this place and feel like a fool. If anyone has had this experience as a young woman, feel free to contact me. Do NOT bring your car here. They are a mix of fraudulent and incompetence. Brought my vehicle in twice, for one and only one noise occurring with braking. Both times I was aggressively sold a sure fix for it. Both times I left with the exact same concern unaddressed noticeable immediately in the parking lot. It is completely obvious and factual that my concern was not investigated, replicated, or tested for both times. How do you sell a fix for something you don't replicate? Manager is clearly desperate as when I spoke to him after being swindled the second time for an erroneous fix, nothing was offered, he just argued semantics with me. "That noise wasn't a brake noise, so it's unrelated. We fixed something else". The blame was put on me for describing my noise as brake related, when he said that in fact was suspension. I am not a mechanic, it occurs with braking. There was only ever one noise, no noise ever alleviated, flat out FRAUD and negligence. Please stay away from these people. Also, please note their warranties are imaginary and scams. If you walk in here, please record everything. read more

Took my 2018 F150 to Midas for an oil change. I'd taken it there a few times before and was pleased with the cost and timely manner. So while I am waiting for it to be finished, the service tech comes into the office and tells the service manager that my air filter and cabin air filters needed to be replaced, the service manager tells me what the tech had told him. I tell the service manager that I've got a K&N air filter, plus there's a sticker on the cover, he says the tech didn't say that to him. The cabin air filter is a pain in the butt to change so I was doubting if the tech even looked at it. They did say the cost would be $88.00. I obviously declined. When I got home I looked up the cost of an air filter, and the cabin filter. The cost for both through Amazon was $23.00. So they were going to charge me $55.00 labor. So that's compliant number 1. Number 2, the service manager then tells me that the front right strut needed to be replaced, along with the rear brakes. I asked how much it would be he should be at $1700 but he'd work me a deal. I did set up an appointment to get it done a couple of days later. The next day I decided to call a place we've bought tires and had front end alignments done. They told me they could look at it the following week. So I took it into their place. They looked it over and said it did need a new strut, in fact it needed both front struts replaced, along with the rear brakes, in addition because the struts needed replacing it would need a front end alignment. So I asked how much it was going to set me back, I'm figuring we'll over $2000.00 based on my quote from Midas based on one strut. They said right $1300. So to have both struts, brakes, and alignment it was $400 less than only the one strut and brakes with no alignment. I was telling my neighbor about it, he said it's called up sales. He said that businesses will try to sell you unnecessary stuff. I didn't work in retail, I spent my working career as a firefighter the San Bernardino County Fire Department. So just beware if you use Midas in Encinitas. I've spent my last dollars there. read more
