Problem: Check engine light - P155 error, catalytic sensor failed. Reasonable estimate to repair and the problem fixed. Next problem: The vehicle has to be driven an unknown number of miles, at a steady unknown speed for 10 miles, for an unknown number of times, for the computer to calibrate with the new sensor. After 30 days and multiple preliminary tests, Encinitas Automotive gave the green light for the Smog Check. Service is personal and friendly, and will be my goto for automotive issues. read more

He did the test drive and looked it over and confirmed everything was fine with the brakes and the issue was cracked hub caps. What a relief. And he didn't charge for this analysis. I've taken three of my cars there for years and always received an accurate diagnosis and repair of the problem. This week I took my Jeep Wrangler there. Alex offered to take a look at it and quickly identified the issue - a loose bolt rolled into the locking mechanism and jammed it up. He fixed it and didn't charge me anything. What a guy! I have been going to Peter and team for 20+ years. I have taken my old vintage muscle cars, my Hondas and Toyotas, as well as my new expensive German cars and these guys have fixed them all. Peter and his mechanics are excellent at diagnosing and fixing any type of problem - but most importantly, I feel I can trust them. I have been to shops before that I know performed extra work that was not really needed. Peter always calls me and gives me a detailed run-down on the problem before any work is performed. He always tells me what he would do if it was his car. I've even had a few times where he fixed something and did not charge me - where he could easily have made a couple hundred dollars. I brought my truck here due to a check engine light. They said that the problem was a faulty Throttle Position Sensor. The repair would be $1000 and $600 of that would be for the part. The OEM Throttle Position Sensor was widely available elsewhere for under $100 (non-OEM even less). So, I bought it and put it in myself in 30 minutes. Truck runs better now. But, they still charged me $185 and I had to do most of the work myself. read more

My car overheated driving from LA to San Diego, and it was towed to Encinitas Automotive. They determined that the oil had been over-filled when the car was recently serviced at the Chevy dealer in Burbank, and they urged me to contact that dealer, which I did and the dealer took responsibility for the problem. Encinitas Automotive waived their $160 diagnosis fee, so they got nothing for their efforts. I was desperate. These guys could have told me anything and charged me anything. From my experience, they are totally honest and very professional. Highly recommended. read more

This place tried to scam me so hard I can't even believe it. I don't usually post bad reviews, I like to keep my life positive but they need to be called out! I went here for an oil change and they tried to tell me my rack and pinion steering needed to be replaced. I took it across the way to get a second opinion and that mechanic showed me that nothing was leaking and further more it was still dirty so they hadn't just wiped some dripping off, it was never there to begin with. I got my car back from the oil change and they had don't something to my tires even though I didn't want them to do anything except the oil change and the car started shaking on the freeway. I took it back to them and they said it would be 15 mins to rotate the tires back and then kept it for 2 hours!!! Then they called me to tell me I had a nail in one of my tires. When I went to pick it up I asked the tech where the nail was and he said there was no nail!! I was soooooo mad! read more

The Porsche dealership was backed up for weeks and asked me to reschedule my oil change and maintenance for another 3 weeks. I couldn't wait that long to get an oil change, so I came here. They specialize in luxury cars, so Porsche can be done here. Whereas for other places, I was turned away, since they didn't have everything needed to work on luxury European cars. I called to make an appointment, came here the day of, got quoted, and my car was worked on. I was the last customer of the day and it was done in a little over an hour. I was happy to get my car back and noticed it drives smoother than ever. I'll be back here again when my Porsche needs anything. read more

Miramar Audi said that my car needed $6000 of repairs for two major issues. Wanting a second opinion, I brought my car to Encinitas Automotive as I was questioning whether I really needed to spend so much money. Peter and Alex looked at my car - free of charge - and within several hours called me to advise that my car did not require any services. This would have been an easy opportunity for a dishonest mechanic to make thousands of dollars - I certainly would not have known any better had they told me that repairs were required. Great place! Looked after my car when I broke down and AAA suggested this shop as I was not familiar with the area. Peter took my car no problem and greeted us when we arrived. A real family business and very genuine. Got my car up and running as soon as they could, the serpentine belt was broken.
