Project that would have likely cost me several thousand dollars. OVERCHARGING - I brought my 2005 Jeep Wrangler here as a new customer to replace the driver-side…read moreseatbelt buckle. I supplied the part myself because Jeep no longer makes it, and I asked for an estimate for labor only. I was quoted $480 and was explicitly told this was a high estimate and that the final cost would likely be lower unless the job turned out to be unusually difficult. This repair is very straightforward and, based on standard repair information and widely available tutorials, should take about one hour. This is not a complex or labor-intensive process. There are four bolts to remove the seat and one other bolt to remove the receptacle for the seatbelt. When I picked up my car, I was charged the full $480 with no explanation. The invoice did not include an itemized breakdown of labor hours, labor rate, or how the charge was calculated. After I questioned the charge and pointed out that this is typically a one-hour job, they reduced the price by $50, bringing it to $430, which is still extremely high for this type of work. They later offered $100 off as store credit if I brought my car back, but I'm not comfortable returning, since my concern is being overcharged in the first place. This shop had an opportunity to fix the issue by issuing a fair refund, and they chose not to. I was hoping this would be an honest, reliable shop for all of my future repairs, but they have lost my business. If you're a woman, I'd recommend coming here with a man so you're not overcharged based on assumptions. After reading other reviews, I noticed that another woman described a very similar experience of being overcharged, which makes this feel like a pattern rather than a one-off mistake. I left feeling like I was taken advantage of. Once I pushed back, the cost suddenly dropped, though still not to a reasonable amount. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop. Transparency and fair labor practices matter.

Had a transmission rebuilt here about 3 years ago, i owned the van for 8 years at this point, and…read moretrans lasted 160k after the rebuild it never seemed to shift right into second gear, if throttling at a normal speed going up a hill it would shift into second at about 10 mph and the rpms would rise and fall with throttle position, and wouldnt really gain speed, would always have to manually shift it back to first until a higher speed, 20-30. Took videos of rpms and speeds sent to them. They scanned it and no codes. Test drove and they said it was fine. Well. It lasted about 50k And second gear started to shudder pretty bad. It also would shudder in reverse on steep inclines. Not sure if related. I get it. No codes = nothing wrong but then again when it went out last time there was no codes either, and it was barely drivable. I have owned this since new and am pretty aware of how my vehicles operate. Do majority of my own vehicle repairs since dealers and other mechanice seem to use parts cannons and not truly diagnosing. Got a new factory trans installed and now it feels like it used to, same hill starts easy throttle holds first until about 25-30, second is solid. Little to no rpm swings with throttle position except it goes better up hills now. 3 stars only because the trans lasted only 50k, under heavy use, original 160k. But this time i made sure they knew i wanted it to last another 150k and opted for new factory not rebuild. Cost way more this time but i feel it is right now. I do highly recommend them but i am upset it didnt last longer, either due to them or the rebuild shop.

Working with the people at DRIVE Autocare was a great experience from start to finish. I spoke to and worked with 3 different people in the N. Cedros office and all were very friendly, kind, professional and honest. I felt like they actually wanted my business. I dropped the car off, (they drove the car to their Hwy 101 garage), they shuttled me home, Paul called to let me know what needed to be repaired and told me the car would be ready the next day. The next day Paul called, sent a car to pick me up and let me know there is a 2-year warranty on the repairs/work that was done. The pricing is not cheap and it is not expensive; it is reasonable and fair for both parts and labor. In fact, Paul even suggested that I try to ask if the previous place would replace the oil pan gasket under warranty to cut the cost by 50% even though it would mean less money for DRIVE Autocare. This experience was a simple, easy, efficient process. I will be going back to DRIVE Autocare from now on for all my car maintenance and any needed repairs.

EDIT #1: This truck passed the smog check in December, 2024, for a title transfer. This shop failed the smog check because there were no CARB EO numbers, but in order for the truck to have passed last time, those numbers had to have been on the catalytic converters. If they couldn't find the numbers it was either because there was dirt obscuring them or because the numbers were positioned so that a mirror (which all shops have) could display them. Once we get the truck checked again, I'm going to file a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair.
