Took my 2017 Acura RDX in for an issue with the AC. Received an estimate of $2400 to replace the AC compressor which seemed a bit high, but I assumed most of the cost was for the compressor. However, it turned out the compressor was $700, and the labor was $1700. I complained about the labor cost for what should have been less than a days job, but Furgerson's tried to explain it was justified. In fact, they claimed they have lower labor costs than other shops in the area. I felt I had been gouged and don't plan on returning to Furgerson's. read more

Just by asking the right questions you can tell that this place has gone down hill since 2009. They only offer standard services, nothing more, nothing less, and they will decline to work on your vehicle if the issue is not easy to fix which means replace parts. Forget about bringing anything here that is other than factory. They will decline repairs and call you after you dropped it off. Don't let them waste your time. There are shops a few miles away that have real mechanics, Buddy at Future Automotive and Mark at About Service. They work on everything and have earned 5 stars. I called to see what the wait time was for a smog check and they said were able to do it in about an hour from then (I called right at lunch time). I showed up an hour later and they immediately pulled my car up and started the smog test. No waiting around at all. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. Fast, freindly, and knowledgeable. Went in for a full vehicle inspection after trying two other places and they were super helpful and really honest. We talked about how strict these inspections can be and they let us know most cars don't pass the first time because a variety of reasons but these guys were very sincere and transparent with how they handle everything. We've had 6 cars into this shop for various reasons, with 4 fails. Okay he latest is an unusual response. I had a 1990 Vanagon in to add an auxiliary battery and ironically the gas tank was punctured and had to turn around to bring back. They claim it wasn't their doing. I replaced the tank with them. During the prior visit I also had wiring worked on for an electric window. 7m and 138 miles later, the window jo longer works. They are no longer working on "classic" vehicles from that era, won't honor warrantee and literally exaggerated the time since it was in his new I asked for paperwork from the supplier, stating, "I can look around, but we don't generally have paperwork from 8 months ago..". I would t suggest this shop for anything more than smog checks. read more

We had condensation in one of our headlights and found out the only way to fix it was to replace the entire headlight unit! The cost of the part was $1700! I went shopping and found the same unit that was used, but worked well and had a guarantee for $500! So I called Fergusons and asked if they would install it for me, but was told they only install new parts through them. I asked what they would charge for the part and installation and they said "$2600!" Wow. That meant they were adding their profit to the part and charging four hours of time for installation. Then I called my car dealership, who said they would replace the entire headlight including installation for $1960! Translation: Furgursons Garage jacked the cost $600 over the dealership cost! I don't have an issue with the quality of work done by Furgersons but there is no doubt they are the most expensive garage in Encinitas. read more

I needed to smog my vehicle...the mister has always taken care of that (and before him...my dad did)... neither are an option at the moment...so it was on me. between working and being a mommy chauffeur i didn't know what to do! I called my mom and asked her ...well.... --i could take it to the dealer (which is where it has always been smogged)...but i didn't want to drive that far. --i could go to the local gas station...but out the door would be like $60 -mom is a winner...she brought a coupon over to my house for Furgerson's Garage. I guess this is where my dad always took our cars. I called to make an appt but it was already closed for the day (on a friday)...they are only open M-F...so had to wait till Monday (and it's a holiday so no work or driving kids!) monday 9 am...got an appt for 11:30... of course the 5 north was down to 1 one because of some horrific accident...no i wasn't happy sitting in it...but i was better off than the people in the accident (hope they are ok) finally made it...about 30 minutes late). It wasn't a problem at all. they told me 30 min. I went for a short walk and was back in front of the shop after 20 min and my car was done! paid...$37 out the door. friendly, efficient, affordable...and plenty to do while you wait for your car. oh and they have an after hours drop off if you want to leave your cars/keys over the weekend! nice! thanks guys...i have 2 more cars with registration coming up, if they need a smog i'll be back! read more

About 20 years or so ago, we had an older Dodge v-10 Truck and Bryan fixed whatever problem it was having and when I got it back, it ran like no other ! Tuned to perfection. This is the best mechanic I've ever been to, and I've been to several. They offer the best prices and the best service. It took me a while to give them a try. I have an older vehicle - 2001 Toyota Celica - and ne fed urgent service but Fergusons is always busy (now I understand why!!!) I went to Scott's first because they are closer to where I live. I had an oil leak and another leak I thought was water because it would evaporate from the concrete of my parking space. The oil leak was worse after Scott's, and my check engine light indicated misfiring which apparently is dangerous, so I took it to the dealership service. They charged me a lot of money to fix a lot of things and the vehicle still wasn't driveable. During a very stressful time (job interviews and pet hospitalization) I took my car to fergusons as a last resort and was so impressed with their service! Within a few days my vehicle was drivable and they found a major issue that somehow Scott's AND the dealership had missed: I had a major fuel leak. How they missed that is beyond me. The vehicle was clearly leaking fluids and my fuel tank kept emptying but I didn't make the connection until fergusons recommended replacing the fuel injectors, and nothing more. The dealership had wanted to dig into my internal engine (super expensive) and fergusons guys knew that wasn't necessary. They used their expertise to solve the puzzle two places couldn't. The best part was the DETAILED service statement they sent me conveniently by text! Never before have I seen anything like it. They explained their thought process and were so kind. Absolutely impressed with their service, especially Evan. Evan was so knowledgeable, personable, and approachable. I didn't feel intimated or concerned at all. I immediately trusted him. Thank you Evan for being an incredible advisor through this process. Fergusons has earned my trust and I will go to only them moving forward. Requested transmission fluid change & seals changed. Said it was checked without moving vehicle saying fluid was chunky black with debris and entire transmission needed replacing. Advised not to drive the vehicle home. Second opinion showed slightly dirty fluid and transmission in great condition. There was no way they even checked transmission fluid. I consider myself to have an above average car IQ and try to do most car maintenance myself. My cousin is a former mechanic and when things get complicated, I would have him help me out. When the turbo wastegate needed to be changed out in our BMW 335i, we decided it would be a pain to DIY and we probably didn't have the computer to reset/calibrate it if needed. My cousin recommended Furgerson's and we got a great quote to do it. The initial estimate was 4 hours of labor. Four days later, we pick up the car. The shop admitted it took "a little longer" than usual which is usually a telltale that they don't have that much experience doing such a repair on this type of car. But, hey, everyone needs to learn sometime. When we drove the car home, the windshield wiper fluid level sensor came on and the coolant level sensor came on as well. I was charged $80 to replace coolant so we wondered why the car would be low on coolant. There was fluid leaking and I determined it to be windshield wiper fluid. This was never an issue before I dropped off the car. The coolant reservoir, wastegate, and windshield fluid reservoir are all in the same vicinity--on the passenger side of the car in the engine bay. I have an OBD-II scanner so I checked the codes. We figured there was a loose hose somewhere and they didn't connect it together correctly. We didn't touch anything because if the shop did it, then they should fix it. I brought the car back a total of 3 times after that because they couldn't figure it out. Coolant level was fine but obviously they denied they did anything to the wiper fluid reservoir. They wanted to charge $200 for just diagnosing it again but I fought them on that. Then they decided the coolant reservoir and sensor needed to be replaced because it was bad and wanted to charge another $500 for that. I declined and decided to fix it ourselves. THEY DID NOT PLUG IN THE COOLANT SENSOR. $0 fix for that for me. The wiper fluid reservoir was cracked. It is possible that they didn't cause it because it was in the wheel well but I did not want to give them the benefit of the doubt since they could not figure out the coolant sensor was unplugged...or maybe they just wanted to drum up more business. I wanted to leave one star but they get another star for fixing the wastegate. read more

We went out to my car and got the information from it and was told around when it would be done. A short time later I got an inspection report sent right to my phone with pictures that showed me how dirty my air filter was!
