OVERCHARGING - I brought my 2005 Jeep Wrangler here as a new customer to replace the driver-side seatbelt buckle. I supplied the part myself because Jeep no longer makes it, and I asked for an estimate for labor only. I was quoted $480 and was explicitly told this was a high estimate and that the final cost would likely be lower unless the job turned out to be unusually difficult. This repair is very straightforward and, based on standard repair information and widely available tutorials, should take about one hour. This is not a complex or labor-intensive process. There are four bolts to remove the seat and one other bolt to remove the receptacle for the seatbelt. When I picked up my car, I was charged the full $480 with no explanation. The invoice did not include an itemized breakdown of labor hours, labor rate, or how the charge was calculated. After I questioned the charge and pointed out that this is typically a one-hour job, they reduced the price by $50, bringing it to $430, which is still extremely high for this type of work. They later offered $100 off as store credit if I brought my car back, but I'm not comfortable returning, since my concern is being overcharged in the first place. This shop had an opportunity to fix the issue by issuing a fair refund, and they chose not to. I was hoping this would be an honest, reliable shop for all of my future repairs, but they have lost my business. If you're a woman, I'd recommend coming here with a man so you're not overcharged based on assumptions. After reading other reviews, I noticed that another woman described a very similar experience of being overcharged, which makes this feel like a pattern rather than a one-off mistake. I left feeling like I was taken advantage of. Once I pushed back, the cost suddenly dropped, though still not to a reasonable amount. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop. Not honest people. DO NOT GO HERE. That being said the guy who helped me at the front desk, during check in and payment, was very helpful and kind. I had to get towed unfortunately, I do all of my mechanic work myself or use my cousins shop, but this was an emergency. The rate of $250/h is higher than a dealership first of all, second they told me they were doing a "52 point inspection" which is the diagnostic, $250. They did not do it. Having worked on this truck I am well aware of the multiple issues going on with the vehicle, they miraculously did not find a single one, other than the specific issue I asked to be fixed. When pressed on the issue they indirectly admitted to this, they gave me the discount of 1/2 off the diag, total BS. They know exactly who this is and that single O-ring replacement takes 10-15 minutes not 2 hours. For one of the most easily accessible o rings on the vehicle, 4 bolts, they wanted to charge $700. For reference they charged 2 hrs($500(it is a shop so overhead is a given extra)) for it, the part costs $3 and it takes 10-15 to do the job. In the case that it did take multiple hours to do the job, you DEFINITELY do not want to use these guys. Being a younger dude they did not expect the knowledge that I had and completely tried to pull the wool over my eyes. Beware. read more

Project that would have likely cost me several thousand dollars. Very disappointed with my last interaction. Have been coming here for years, and called to get a quote on a smog check. Was given a quote that is much higher than local competitors. When I mentioned this (really just wondering if I was mistaken in the quote that was given), the person hung up on me. Not very professional. I actually might not mind paying a little more, but this kind of treatment is not reassuring, so I will take my business elsewhere. TLDR: They killed my battery, didn't want to take responsibility, and then left my car in a handicap spot... I came in for a diagnostic check for a check engine light. They had it for 3 days and didn't find anything wrong. I get the car back and the battery is DEAD, from them leaving the light on. My remote for the car wasn't even working, we couldn't open the door. They had us drive my car around for "15 min so they can test the battery after that." They didn't test the battery anfter and just told me to turn it off and on again, and it didn't start up again.. SO they kept the car to 'charge it' , but now they need to keep it for the weekend.. LOU tried to tell me that 'their technician didn't have a reason to turn the light on cause it was day time , so it wasn't them" I said "you guys had my car for 3 days and admitted it was running fine 3 days in a row, now my car is dead" .. Lou did not want to take accountability.. it made going to work extremely difficult.. I want to start by saying that Complete Car Care did refund me for the diagnostic fee but found them recommending unneeded repair for my car and believe someone or all of them were not truthful. Again, it was not a misdiagnosis, but not truthful about the needed repairs. I want to say someone was lying. I think it's important to share my experience so others can make informed decisions about this repair shop. I brought my 2012 Range Rover Evoque to them in good faith because of a coolant leak and an "engine coolant level low" message that kept appearing even after topping off the reservoir. I also noticed an oil leak and a check engine light. I've taken several cars to them in the past and trusted them based on prior experiences, but this visit raised serious concerns. I paid $239.99 for their diagnostic check. They later texted me a report stating that the radiator was leaking and quoted repairs of approximately $900 for the radiator, $375 for hoses, $800 for the thermostat, and $1,800 in labor -- nearly $4,000 total. I asked them not to do the repairs. I went to pick up the car, before leaving I spoke with Lou, the service writer, I asked how many hours the job will take, he said around 4 hours - I said at $1800 in labor, that is over $400 per hour of labor, he just shrugged his shoulders. I also mentioned that I could buy a radiator for around $150 on partsgeek.com. Lou suggested not to buy things on that website, he felt the products are inferior, however there are many OEM products. The radiator diagnosis did not make sense - I saw the leak appear near the front wheelbase. So, I took the car home to have a second look. Luckily, a friend of mine, who is a skilled technician, inspected the car thoroughly. The radiator was completely dry -- no signs of a leak anywhere. We traced the coolant leak to the heater hose at the back of the engine, which was dripping into the drain well and running down and out both sides of the car. I took a video of the actual leak. (see video below) I then ordered the correct heater hose for $57 (plus $45 overnight shipping) on partsgeek.com which was OEM. My friend replaced it, and the car has been running perfectly since -- no leaks at all. It took him an hour to repair and put the car back together. I don't know how much it would have cost to replace the heater hose, but at lease the problem would have been fixed. I returned to Complete Car Care and explained that there was no leak in the radiator, and that the quoted repairs were unwarranted. I also showed them a video of the actual leak coming from the heater hose as evidence. The tech that looked at my car was on a test drive, so the manager got the lead tech and asked if they could look at the car. I welcomed them to take a look. The lead technician looked at my car and within one minute he quickly confirmed there was no radiator leak. It's hard to understand how the original technician could have made such a mistake, since the radiator was dry and the heater hose and radiator are located in completely different parts of the engine. Plus, a visual look similar to the one the lead tech did would have told them to search another place. It is for this reason, I believe someone was not telling the truth. While Lou and Lead Tech were nice and polite when I came back, the fact remains: the problem was not a misdiagnosis, but I believe was an outright untruth, and the proposed $4,000 radiator repair was unnecessary. Based on my experience, I believe customers should be cautious and consider getting a second opinion before approving any major repairs at this place. I took my Range Rover into Complete Car Care Encinitas because they could look at my car more quickly than the dealership and they were closer to my home. The problem was diagnosed as an engine coolant leak and I paid about $1800 for labor and parts for the replacement of a few different hoses. I was initially very happy with the service. About 2-months later I experienced another engine coolant alarm and returned to Complete Car Care. This time they informed me they were concerned about doing additional work on my engine as they thought the dealership could do a better job and that the leak was some where behind the engine. This was a head scratcher as they supposedly guarantee the work but I followed their instructions nevertheless. Upon taking my car to the dealership a few days later and as I was waiting for my loaner car, the service manager popped off the engine cover and showed me one of hoses repaired by Complete Car Care had popped loose (see picture). These things sometimes happen, but when I mentioned it to Complete Car Care they denied this could have happened due to their work suggesting that someone at the dealership did it which is absolutely ridiculous. If Complete Car Care was not comfortable working on my vehicle to fully resolve the problem they should have said so from the beginning. In this case, I'm not confident that their original work was done adequately. read more

TLDR in the span of 1.5 months they did 5 jobs on my car, each one wasn't done properly and resulted in more work and damages afterwards. To end off our exchanges they quoted me 3k to replace the catalytic convertor that broke from the misfires they caused. No accountability, no apology, and they couldn't even reset the service interval on my car either. The entire time they attributed engine wear to their lack of success. However the engine was rebuilt and has less miles on it than the onboard computer says. I suspect this business has made their success of taking advantage of the older residents in the area. Only positive reviews are for simple jobs and they are made out to be life savers. Take your vehicle anywhere else for cheaper and better quality service. read more

If you read them very few have any substance to them at all. @Andy, Lou has my number when you are ready to give me a call. Story: car overheated so we brought it in. They decided we needed a new radiator and thermostat. After testing everything with the new parts in they said it was good and sent us home. A couple weeks later the car overheated again and blew the head gaskets. We took it to another shop who pressure tested it and found the lower radiator hose clamp was bad and coolant was dumping from it. The radiator cap housing on the radiator was also warped, causing it to lose pressure. We called this company back and they told us that head gaskets are notoriously faulty on suburus and it must have blown on its own, it had nothing to do with them. We are now stuck with a $3-6k bill to replace the engine (due to the location of the head gaskets on this particular car) read more

I had called to inquire about a quote for a diagnostic test for my Honda Civic 2012. I was told $169. I decided to schedule with Complete Car Care due to the fee quoted. After the test was completed I was given a call that the total would be $190. I told the employee of this discrepancy and he responded that it was incorrect and the total was $190. I paid because at the end of the day miscommunication can occur however there was no apology. I brought my vehicle to another auto shop stating the issue was the Crankshaft position sensor, based on Complete Car Care's diagnosis. (I had just replaced this sensor less than a yr ago.) The private auto shop ran their own diagnostic tests and found that the crankshaft position sensor was fine and it was the alternator and starter motor. I fixed those two and the problem I was having resolved. Overall, I would not return to Complete Car Care based on my experience with the inconsistent quote and wrong diagnosis. read more

I'm writing this in hopes that I may help others when looking for shops in the area. I decided to do an oil change and an inspection since it has been a few years. I get the report via text and give Brandon a call back. The spark plugs, serpentine belt, cabin air filter, and a headlight needed to be replaced. Also, that there is a possible engine leak, and the car needed to come back to add some dye, driven for a day, then come back to diagnose it. I agreed to the spark plugs and serpentine belt since I could replace the other things on my own. I go in, and the total for to replace the headlight and cabin air filter was around $400. The headlight was ~$320 because it was a special "LED lamp". I replaced them myself 2 years ago. They're not LED. I'm glad I didn't agree to having any of that work done. The next day, I go to change the cabin filter. My car makes it pretty difficult to replace the cabin air filter where underneath the glove box has to be removed along with the fuse box and its mounts. The nuts on the fuse box mounts took a good amount of strength to get them out. I remember thinking "It's like these nuts haven't been touched in years". I finally get to the cabin filter, and it's barely dirty. Then I remembered that I had it changed a couple years back, and I barely drive this car nowadays. I highly doubt they even looked at the cabin air filter. I check the headlight. Nope, all headlights are working, both low and high beams. I took my car to another shop for a second opinion on the engine leak. The shop said it's a slight leak, and they don't think it's necessary to fix the leak. They gave me an estimate of ~$1k if I wanted to get it fixed. I could've been out at least $1k if I got this done with Complete Car Care. I feel scammed, and I'm very skeptical of their practices. Who knows if the spark plugs and serpentine belt really needed to be replaced. The only good things about this shop are Lou's great customer service and the shuttle service. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

They quoted a fuel sensor replacement at 1175 and I immediately said woah... can't afford that right now... they reply we can do 950.... ok so I'm playing the price is right now. So I ask around it's a 205$ part and labor estimated at 2-400. That puts me at 5-600 from my old car mechanic (just moved from south county). Call them back and the best they can now do is 750. If I cancel I have to pay 200 diagnostic fee. So now I'm pickle locked. They replace the fuel sensor and within 10 miles my light comes back on. Take it back and they run a diagnostic with 1600+ estimate for 3 items. So I say I'm out and take it to another mechanic. They run the diagnostic and the fix total bill is going to be 318$. I'm wondering if I even needed my fuel sensor replaced. I don't like writing bad reviews but I feel sooo slighted by these guys and don't want this to happen to anyone. read more

Took it to another mechanic and was told the terminal replacement was poorly done, loosely installed, and was not the issue anyways. Car was wrongly diagnosed & I was overcharged for poor repairs. I was going to not write this review and pour gasoline on the number of negative reviews already, but after a lot of discussions and service with different repair services, I felt I have to. On November 1, 2023 I was buying a 2018 Mercedes E400 Cabriolet from CarMax and took it to Complete Care for a basic vehicle inspection. The driver side seatbelt was already scheduled to be replaced by CarMax. The diagnosis was as follows: 1. New seat belt. $1417.59 2. Oil leak from drain plug washer. $154.55 3. Leak from cylinder head front covers. $1085.44 4. Battery replacement. $813.65 I went back to CarMax and told them about this diagnosis. Their Mercedes mechanic agreed with the drain plug leak and obviously the seat belt. He did not agree with the other leak and battery replacement. Andy K, the owner of Complete Car Care sent me an email saying that CarMax is trying to "wash their hands of the vehicle". On 11/17, the car went into CarMax service. The seat belt was replaced and drain plug repaired. The car then was sent to Mercedes to calibrate the seat belt. Mercedes did not find any head cover leak or battery issues. Car Max cleaned the whole area and we agreed to bring the car back in two months to see if there was any leakage. On January 17, 2024, I took the car back to CarMax. They showed me the area and there were no leaks, and the battery was still rated good. In fact the car sat for two weeks while I was on vacation and it started right up. Andy K stated that the battery was $500 and $313 to install it....Wow? If you do take your vehicle to Complete Car Care in Encinitas and get a diagnosis, I would highly recommend getting a second opinion. They have way too many negative reviews. read more
