Why the two stars because what they did for my other cars transmission was great, They went above and beyond. They actually saved our cars's life as it were. The quoted price for a transmission fluid change was one of the best I received. Two other mechanics I got quoted from were charging close to dealer prices. They had the change done in about 3 hours. I noticed a small leak after taking my vehicle home. I watched it for a day and asked them to check it the next day. They did so no questions asked and did a second check. They stated it was residual and assured me everything was good. They cleaned up any residual and topped me off a second time. No leaks since. I'm satisfied with their work and will likely take another vehicle in for the same work in the future. My well regarded local shop could not diagnose the problems I was having with my older Volvo station wagon. The shop recommended I try Miramar Transmission and I am very happy they did. It took a few days, but Frank and his staff were able to isolate the problems and fix them to bring the car back to great condition. There was quite a bit of troubleshooting required, but they kept at it until they found out what was causing the car to shift down into first gear and go completely dead. They even do a recheck at 500 miles for free, that's how much they stand behind their work. I took my very high mileage older Nissan Sentra in and got a new transmission installed and programmed, no delays, done when promised at the agreed upon price. BMW San Diego said they could not diagnose nor repair my transmission problem I have a 1995 740i with 50,000 miles on it, and it is like new. My transmission lever had been intermittently sticking over the past 3 years, and this year, it would not shift into park after a 15-mile trip when I got home in my drive. I phoned BMW San Diego with a clear description of my problem and was told they could likely fix it. I had AAA tow it in, and BMW diagnosed it as the shifter lever. They kept my car for three weeks while they got a new lever from Germany. It cost $1377, so I hoped it would be fixed. During Sept and October I drove four trips, a total of 40 miles, and the problem kept occurring. I was scared to drive the car, fearing it would lock up in a grocery parking lot. It would shift when cold so I could start it and drive it back to BMW. Upon arrival the service manager tried to drive my car, he could not get it out of the park. He assured me he would oversee the job and have every one of BMW's best mechanics evaluate my problem. After a week (They gave me a free loaner, thank you.), he phoned back and said they had no idea how to fix my car other than installing a new transmission. During that wait, I did more research on my own and found that others shared my problem. A transmission shop in Encinitas said, "We have heard of your problem, but we cannot fix it. You need to call Frank at Marimar transmission, as he is the only one we know who can fix your problem." I phoned Frank at Mirimar Transmission, and he told me to drive my car from BMW to his shop. He apologized for his workload delay but said if he could find the parts he needed in San Diego, he could fix my car in two days. Two days and $3800 later, my 740 is shifting like new. read more

They repaired the transmission on my euro car. Car shifts just like new again. Only downside is that it took a while to get parts in due to shortages and the obscurity of the part I needed. Also, I came in knowing exactly what work my car required and had to stick to my guns to only have that work done. With that said, the price was more than fair for the work rendered. And the repair is still good today, so they know what they are doing, and did an excellent job. Would recommend, especially if you have a unique\dealer-locked transmission. read more

I had my car worked on here and I had so many issues getting it done. Finally, when it was done I had to return it for them to try and fix a whining noise my car had when I went into reverse. When they told me they had fixed it. I was informed that my radiator had a leak and needed to be repaired. I let them fix it and when I finally got a call to come and pick up my car, I got there and went to test drive it and it still had the winning sound. As they take it back to look at it again I am informed that the radiator has a leak again and needs to be taken out again. They fixed it and since they had it so long I asked them to do my brakes. It gets done. Recently I took off my tires to clean the wheel well and saw that one tire had 3 lug bolts on it out of 5 and another had 2. The back tire had used washers on the lug bolts so they would not go through the rim that had been messed up by tightening the lug bolts way too tight. I have had to have another company work on my car because most of the work was done wrong they installed my flywheel with only 3 bolts and it is missing the rest of the bolts. Good luck if you go to this business for your car needs. Worst car service ever! read more

700th review - too bad I wish the circumstances were better on why this is my 700th review, though... So, after 5 years of owning my 2007 Mazda 3 (got her used in 2009), and driving her up to L.A. County and back the last couple of years, the dreaded check engine and transmission lights came on over Labor Day weekend. After going on Yelp and looking for transmission specialists in the area, Miramar Transmission stood out. Yes, they're expensive (then again, a transmission repair, even used, is expensive; after everything was said and done, I paid $2475), but their work and professionalism is top notch. Frank and Pete explained everything that was wrong with my ride, and even gave me a lift back to my place after I dropped off my car. Even when I was late picking her up yesterday (no thanks to our inefficient transit system), they offered to take my car to where I was. Taking out the cost of the labor charge for taking it apart (after you decide to get the work done) was a great touch, and you can pay in installments as well. I highly recommend Miramar Transmissions. I had a 2013 BMW 328i with a transmission error code. I took the car to the BMW dealership to find out the issue. The dealership was unable to reproduce the error and told me just to live with the transmission error. A local German auto repair shop recommended that I take the car to Frank at Miramar Transmission. Frank and his team were immediately able to reproduce the transmission error in test drives and isolate the computer issue.
