Usually I go to the Pep Boys of Poway but I was yesterday in Encinitas and my clutch was making a squeaky noise, so I checked the nearest place to check and found the Pep Boys of El Camino Real. Fast and enjoyable interaction and I always like Pep Boys because I feel they are very honest and clear with the car issues. Waiting time was not long at all and I think they are very efficient. Plus the mechanic with the long beard looked so cool . The man handling the payment of the service was very nice telling me how much I would have to pay in case my issue comes back and what would be the repair cost approximately. I had my vehicle serviced at the Pep Boys Store #0701 in Encinitas, CA on Saturday, March 7, and the experience has been extremely concerning. Initially, I brought my car in for a tire alignment because the vehicle was pulling strongly to the right and making a clunking noise when going over speed bumps above 5 mph. During the inspection, the technician, Derick S., stated that the lower control arm bushings were torn and that this had damaged the steering and suspension components. I was advised that the front lower control arms and the driver-side CV axle needed to be replaced before an alignment could be performed. Based on this recommendation, I authorized the service, which totaled $1,616.44 ($760.97 for parts and $796.49 for labor). I would also like to note that the old parts that were supposedly replaced were never shown to me. However, after a week of driving the vehicle, the exact same issues persisted: the car continued to pull to the right, the suspension felt bouncy, and I could still hear unusual noises. On Saturday, March 14, I returned to the same store and left my car again for inspection. About an hour later, a Pep Boys associate called and informed me that the technician still heard suspension noise when going over speed bumps, noticed a bouncy suspension suggesting worn shocks and struts, and suspected engine mount movement during acceleration that could be affecting the alignment. I was then told the vehicle would require additional repairs exceeding $2,000, including replacement of the front struts, rear shocks, upper right engine mount, upper left transmission mount, and another alignment. Are you guys kidding me ? I authorized and paid for significant repairs specifically so the alignment could be completed and the original issue resolved. Yet, the problem remains unchanged and I am now being asked to approve thousands of dollars in additional repairs. Given these circumstances, I request a full refund of the $1,616.44 paid. I visited the store again yesterday, on March 14 and spoke with Thinh D. at the front desk. I requested several times that a formal claim be opened regarding this matter. After multiple attempts, I received an email from him, that did not document or acknowledge the issues happened. I may not be an automotive expert, but I am capable of recognizing when something is not right. This is unacceptable, and customers should not be misled in this way. I am requesting that this complaint be formally reviewed and that appropriate action be taken to resolve the matter promptly. read more

That said, this was the incorrect business. I was actually supposed to be at Discount Tires up the street. However, I was treated most wonderfully by Lena (apologies if the spelling is incorrect). I came in and was in a state of panic as I'd been driving around searching for the shop while having to visit the latrine which had turned into a serious issue for me. She told me to go on back and use their facilities before even ironing out that I was mistaken. For that, I'm giving them the maximum review. STAY AWAY! Needed brake pads for 2022 Mazda CX5 and saw an ad for Pep Boys. Brought the car in at 7:55 am Saturday morning for an 8 am appt, and spoke with Lena, the manager. She was told all we were interested in was the brake pads and Lena's response was "Well, we dont know what it will need". I made it clear we would be doing nothing else. She said the car would be done by 12. We went to the gym and 9:30 we got an email with an inspection report saying we needed pads, rotors surfaces, a cabin air filter and a battery. I called and told Lena that we have never had any issues with the battery and it was fine when we brought it in. She said their inspection showed it was bad and they could install a new one. I told her when I need a battery I will get one at Walmart, because I can be almost anywhere in the US and find a Walmart to replace it under warranty. 12 pm and the car isnt ready. We get there at 12:30, lena says the car is ready and we pay for it. As we are walking out to the car, Lena follows and says, "Oh I forgot, the battery is dead. We had to push it out of the service bay. Im not happy, go to start the car and not even dashboard lights come on. I told her that there is no way the battery should be dead, so I go to my car and get jumper cables. Lerna brings out a charger, puts it on for 20 seconds and it wont start, so she leaves. I use my cables to jump it. It takes me 2-3 minutes to get it with enough charge for the dash lights to come on. The radio is also on, but not enough juice to start it. Im not happy and go to the service bay to ask who worked on the car and what did they do to discharge the battery. Crickets. I ask who the manager is and they tell me Lena. I told one guy "Im sorry she's your boss" and he shrugged his shoulders and put his hands up. I went back inside and told her that there was no way the battery died, that they did something to it. Then a guy from the service bay walks in and explained that they left the ignition on the whole time so they could put the car in neutral and spin the tires. Im pissed at this point and tell her she owes me a battery. She laughed. I told them I would go buy a battery from Walmart up the road and put it in myself, but that I wasn't done with them. She looked at me and replied, "Im scared". One the way to Walmart I called the Clairemont location and asked the manager how I contact the regional manager, told him what happened, and asked if he would have done the same thing. He said no. I told him he should check with any people that work with him to see if they are interested in a manager position, because when I was done with filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair, and talk to corporate on Monday, there would be an opening by Friday. Got the battery at Walmart and came back, and as we were walking to the car, Lena came running out. "Guys. where did you go? I told you I was going to give you a battery." That was a lie. I told her fine, go get it and put it in, and she had one put in. I called the Clairemont manger back and asked if he had called her. He said he did. When we reviewed the invoice, she had wanted to charge us $220 for a battery with $100 install fee. It took two hours longer than promised dealing with a problem she created so she could sell us a battery that we didn't need. Stay away from this location at all costs or any other one where they move Lena to. read more

I don't know about this place, the worker at the back desk seemed very lazy, and definitely offensive, he was burping, had to get my own paperwork off of the printer, oh and his copies too. DO NOT go to this Pep Boys store. They do NOT stand behind what they promise! I went in for a leaking tire and was told about a Cyber Monday deal. It was buy 2 get 2 free tires. When I called to confirm the order I was told to call back in 1 hour. When I called back.....gee the deal was no longer available!!! He told me to call the manager the next day and so I did...4 times! The first call I was told she would work on it and call me back. Over an hour later she hadn't called back so I called again. She said she was busy and forgot, but would call me back in 5 to 10 minutes. 2 hours later I called her and was told she had gone home for the day! My car needed breaks. Such an unorganized mess on the process of how to make an appointment. I tried making an appointment online a few times and the shop would call me the day of and say that the appointment I made was not going to work. The shop would prefer you call them to place a appointment. The service was done in a timely manor. I had to wait for an excessive amount of time to pick up my car, but the service was done with no regrets and I was able to use a coupon. Staff seems unhappy at work and reluctant to go over and above a certain level of customer service. I would only go here to use a coupon, other than that, it's not a friendly place. read more

I got a call was recommended filters which I said yes to, then remembered I did them last oil change so they should not be needed and I called back right away to cancel that no problem. I came back into and my tires were replaced with some of the most expensive ones with no discussion of it, even if they misheard about a rotating the tires I had no confirmation at all about which tires I'd be getting or the cost, or if I would want the staggered setup I have now or oem. It was time to take my car in for an oil change, so I decided to set up an appointment online with Pep Boys. The website was very easy to navigate and my appointment was completed in just under 3 minutes. While going through the website, I found a discount coupon for $10 off of the oil change, so if you use the website, be sure to locate the coupon to save some money. My appointment was confirmed for the next morning at 10 a.m. I arrived at the service center the next morning 10 minutes early and checked in with Jorge who was friendly and professional. He had me initial some paperwork and told me that my car would be ready in an hour. A waiting room was available just past the check in desk with seating, a television, a drinking fountain and a bay window looking out on the service bays. If you don't wish to use the waiting room, you have plenty of options nearby for food, coffee etc..all in short walking distance. Sitting in the waiting room, I was able to watch the technician as he rotated my tires and went through a checklist during the oil change. Before the car was finished, they came to me with the inspection checklist of things that could be done optionally and without pressure, allowed me to decide whether or not to have them fixed. Once everything was completed, I saw the technician take my car out of the service bay and Jorge informed me that my car was ready. My car was done in under an hour and I was back on the road again. This location is a nightmare and the manager was disgustingly rude. I sent my mother to this location, because I had spoken to someone regarding new tires for her car, and he quoted us a certain amount for the entire service. When my mother goes in herself to take the car to the appt scheduled, they acknowledged the same price and took her car in. After TWO HOURS they finally removed her tires, and she was told that the price was going to be an extra $300-$350 more, even though we had discussed over the phone and before they took the car back. My mom called me immediately asking what to do, so I told her to grab the manager and ask. As im on the phone, the manager gives my mom disgusting responses. She was extremely rude and when my mom was simply asking her questions she would answer my mother as if her she was hard to understand, because a few of her words in sentences are have incorrect grammar, as English is her second language. The manager eventually started raising her voice and cussing at my mom, and that's when I screamed on the phone "is this how you f* talk to your customers? Why are you raising the prices as soon as you took the car back and made her wait two hours for nothing even with the very first appt of the day scheduled?" And she goes "im not f* talking to you it's not your car," knowing that my mom called me to get help bc of the language barrier. it was absolutely disgusting behavior and we took our service elsewhere. They've never let me down, and always have done the work right, got it done quickly, never tried to overcharge or add unneeded services, and completed the jobs inexpensively. I left work only to find my car with a flat. Not exactly the best way to end a tiring work day. As I was changing the flat over to the spare, I needed to find an auto repair place close by that could take care of it before my long drive back home. I called this Pep Boys around 5:45pm. Alex answered the phone and was friendly, professional and really tried to help me. The mechanic Hoss was willing to stay later than 8pm to get it done. I was able to get to the store around 6:30pm and they took my car right away. My car was overdue for a whole new set of tires anyway so I took advantage of their buy 3, get the 4th tire free deal. Also added alignment and warranty to my transaction. They had 3 Cooper Adventure tires in stock that night, and I came back the following evening for the 4th tire. I'm sure if you came by appointment, you would've completed the job in one visit. Sitting in Pep Boys waiting to pick up my 2016 Toyota after an oil change. When picking up my car, I'm now told we have a rusted oil cap and it's $24. We told them to go ahead, which was a big mistake because we were then informed the the oil pan is rusty. Meanwhile, they attempted to charge us $500 for this. When we balked, they said they'll split it, but then told us the part won't be in for a few hours. A 29 dollar part is now costing us $250, and we're sure they broke it! Scheduled an appointment for 8am and after nearly 5 hours of no update I called and whoever answered rudely said "you know we text or call you when there is an update". Like ya dude, but it's been almost 5 hours with no word. You think you'd hear something before then if you scheduled an appointment for first am. He then told me they wouldn't get to the inspection for another hour, but then randomly sent me a list of services my car needed (most were unnecessary) with no quote. After waiting 45 min for a follow up I decided to call and was basically told I couldn't get my brake pads replaced without also getting my rotors replaced as well, so I just said I'm no longer interested in any of their services. I agree my rotors need to be replaced but at that point I felt like I was being talked down to and it seemed like they were just trying to price gouge me. Needed a new battery for the car, which was $110, they said installation is free, so we did that, but that meant waiting 4 hours for it. I should have done it myself. Got the car after waiting 4 hours for it, and they diagnosed with several other issues. I wanted to get a second opinion so I went to Lexus Carlsbad and they told me that nothing was wrong with my car and gave me a free car wash. A complete ripoff! Brought my old car for an oil change and tire rotation ($29); wound up paying close to $500 to replace the oil pan and valve cover which they said was broken and rusted. Interesting because it was never discussed beforehand. Despite arguing with them ( reduced the bill in "half"), they held my car hostage until paid for. In addition, we had to sit around for more than 4 hours while they found the part. Would never use them again! read more
